Mary Anna Johnson

Mary Anna Settle Johnson, age 92, 206 South Craig, Prosper, Texas, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at North Central Medical Center, McKinney, Texas.

Born Aug. 29, 1907, to Nathaniel Christopher Settle and Mary Elizabeth Smith Settle in Prosper, she graduated in 1923 in a class of five from Prosper High School, Prosper, Texas, as a basketball star. On Dec. 7, 1924, she married Jerry Bright Johnson (deceased Feb. 5, 1990) and had two children. From 1931
to 1947, the Johnsons owned and operated Navo Cash Grocery Store in the Navo Community located on Fish Trap Road in Eastern Denton County. For several years, Mary Anna was the church pianist at
Elm Ridge Methodist Church in Navo Community. Mary Anna was a member of Prosper Presbyterian Church.

Services will be Saturday, July 8, 12 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, US 75 Exit 38, McKinney, Texas, with visitation Friday, July 7, 2000, 6 to 8 p.m.

One granddaughter, Jana Lynn Gee Williamson, preceded her in death in November 1977.

Survivors are one son and family from Uvalde, Texas, Pat and Knoxie Johnson; Rhonda Johnson; Susan and Eddie Yates, Audra and Kelsey; one daughter and family from Aubrey and Denton, Texas,
LaVerne Johnson Gee and Matlock Rose; Judy Gee and Barry Bogan; Jill and Joe Gwartney; Jerri Gee and Rick Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Lois Reece, Prosper, and Beatrice Furr, Three Rivers, Texas; one brother-in-law, W. A. Johnson, Denton; several cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful
friends.

Oneta Lee

Oneta P. Lee, 76, of Denton died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born March 27, 1924, in Pilot Point, to George and Gracie Talent Davis. She married Von G. Lee, who died in 1967.

Mrs. Lee was a cook for several hospitals including Flow Memorial and, most recently, Osteopathic Hospital.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton. The Rev. Bob Joyce will officiate. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Burns City.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Lee, James Elsnic, David Lee, George Lee Jr., Stacie Esquire and Kevin Harrison.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Pendleton and Beverly Hilliard, both of Denton; a son, Jerry Lee of Carlton, Neb.; a sister, Ann Brock of Denton; two brothers, Jerry Davis of Collinsville and Roy Davis of Mineola; 15 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. One son, George Edward Lee Sr., died Oct. 18, 1999.

Francine Barnes

Pilot Point - Francine Renee Barnes, 40, of Pilot Point died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Pilot Point.

She was born Jan. 19, 1960, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Lillie B. Combs and Elmo Gaines.

She was a member of Countyline Baptist Church in Pilot Point.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Pilot Point Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. J. Bob Thomas will officiate. Peoples Funeral Home in Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Garland Dean Mitchell and Keith Bernard Barnes Jr., both of Amarillo; two daughters, Kizzy Rolanda Mitchell and Ida Lavette Barnes, both of Pilot Point; three brothers, Tommy Earl Combs of Arizona, Elmo Allen Oliver of Amarillo, and Albert Ray Oliver of Lubbock; and three sisters, Sherry Lavon Woodruff of Pilot Point, Jeanie Lanette Wilson of Fort Worth, and Deidre Yvette Vinson of Amarillo.

H.L. Stanley

Mr. H.L. (Luke) Stanley died Monday, July 24, 2000, at his home in Dallas. Born on Dec. 8, 1916, in Denton, Texas, Luke is survived by Kathryn A. Stanley, his wife of 22 years; his brother, Robert Stanley of Poteau, Okla.; his sister, Eva Jo Teal of Amarillo, Texas; daughters, Michael Zaleski of The Colony, Texas, Carolyn Thompson of Austin, Texas; son, Pat Stanley of Longmont, Colo.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Thorne Stanley and sister, Allie Marie Stanley of Amarillo.

Luke served in the United States Army Air Corps for four years, stationed at Dallas Love Field and later Fairbanks, Alaska. His life long love of automobiles lead Luke to a 27 year career with the Lincoln Mercury Division of Ford Motor Co. as regional customer service manager. He then went to a second career with the Dallas Better Business Bureau where he retired at age 82 after 22 years as Vice President for arbitration.

Known for his strong sense of fairness and a willingness to stand up for his convictions, Luke was a great listener who shared himself freely with others and was loved and respected by all who knew him. Heaven is a better place now that Luke has arrived!

A memorial service was held at Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane at the corner of Hillcrest Avenue at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000. Interment of remains will be at the Stanley Family Plot; Roselawn Cemetery; Denton, Texas at 10:30 a.m.; Monday, July 31, 2000. A reception and visitation will follow with the family at the Radisson Hotel.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to a hospice or organization of your choice. The hospices which attended Luke were Vitas Health Care Corp. and the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice. Checks should be made in memory of H.L. (Luke) Stanley to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 5001 LBJ Freeway, Suite 1050, Dallas, Texas 75244 or to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 500, Dallas, Texas 75247.

Services were handled by Oak Cliff Funeral Chapel in Dallas.

Pedro Chavez Jr.

Decatur - Pedro Chavez Jr., 24, of Decatur, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in an auto accident seven miles east of Decatur on Highway 380.

He was born May 28, 1976, in Decatur, to Concha and Pedro Chavez Sr. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1994. He was a machinist employed in metal fabrication.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, at Catholic Church of the Assumption in Decatur. Father Gonzalo Morales will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 31, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joe Ortiz, Tony Chavez, Gerodo Zamora, Francisco Hernandez, Julian Mares and Jamie Varela.

Survivors include his mother of Decatur; brother, Antonio "Tony" Chavez of Decatur; two sisters, Juana Alcarez and Criselda Chavez, both of Decatur; and grandparents, Juana Rodriquez of Decatur and Antonio Correa of Zaratoza, Mexico. His father is deceased.

Robert W. Gibson

Robert Wayne Gibson, 46, of Denton, formerly of Vernon, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in a Dallas hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, at Central Christian Church in Vernon. The Rev. Stering Lentz will officiate. Interment will be in Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon. Sullivan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family will be at Sullivan Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 31, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to Twice Blessed House or the American Kidney Foundation.

He was born March 16, 1954, in Vernon, to William "Bill" and Shiela Mitchell Gibson. He was a 1972 graduate of Vernon High School and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He married Romona Bullock on March 27, 1982, in Denton.

Mr. Gibson was a project manager in the electronics industry.

He was a member of Central Christian Church of Vernon.

Survivors include his wife Romona of Denton; two daughters, Valerie Gibson and Michelle Gibson, both of Denton; father of Vernon; brother, David Gibson of Vernon; two sisters, Margaret Mathews Worth and Beverly Howl, both of Fort Worth; nieces and nephews.

A.W. Woolsey

Dr. A.W. Woolsey, 94, of Denton, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Good Samaritan Health Care.

He was born May 1, 1906, in Yoakum, to Arthur West Woolsey and Ann Virginia Hughes. He married Elizabeth Harding on Dec. 30, 1933, in Marrilton, Ark. She is deceased.

Dr. Woolsey retired as dean of foreign language at Texas Woman's University. He was a Rotary Club member.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1944.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, at Roselawn Memorial Park. The Rev. William C. Crouch will officiate.

The family will be at Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home from 3 to 4 p.m. today, Monday, July 31, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to TWU Library for Special Collections or the the American Lung Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Haughton of Richardson; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sanfred Elieson Sr.

Sanfred Willard Elieson Sr. died at the age of 85 on Saturday, July 29, 2000, following a severe heart attack. Mr. Elieson was a long-time resident of Denton County.

Sanfred W. Elieson Sr. was born April 5, 1915, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eli Walter Elieson and Lyle Maddox Brimley, and was married to Virginia Shurtliff on June 7, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had been self-employed in the insurance business and in financial consulting.

Sanfred W. Elieson Sr. devoted much of his life in unpaid service to God through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man he served at his own expense from 1934 to 1936 as a full time missionary to the southern United States. He served for several years during the 1950s as bishop or lay pastor of the Morningside Park Ward in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1964 he left his business career to serve for three years as the full-time president of the Texas Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife both served as ordinance workers in the church's Dallas Temple from its opening in 1984 until 1999. Mr. Elieson presided over the public open house of the temple conducted prior to its dedication in 1984 and also served as first counselor to the temple president for three years, 1987-1990. Mr. Elieson held the office of a patriarch in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1975 until shortly before his death.

Sanfred W. Elieson Sr. is survived by his three sisters, Ruth Judith Wilson and Donna Joy Haacke, both of California, and Mardell Jessie Jones of Mesa, Ariz.; by four children, S. Willard "Bill" Elieson Jr., formerly of Highland Village, Texas, and now residing in Macon, Ga., David Gerald Elieson of Sanger, Texas, Steven Virgil Elieson of San Jose, Calif., and Sharon Elaine Ries of Escondido, Calif.; and by 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife in February of 1999, and his four other children, Judith, Sue Ann, Carol Lynn, and Melvin Richard.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Monday, July 31, 2000, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3000 Old North Road, Denton, northeast of Highway 380 and Look 288. Bishop David Martino conducting. Mr. Elieson will then be buried next to his wife at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Temple Building Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael McGlaughn

Lewisville - Michael McGlaughn, 60, of Lewisville, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Medical Center of Lewisville.

He was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Dallas, to Curtis Eugene and Rosa Bell Thornhill McGlaughn. He married Pat Webb on July 7, 1990, in Lewisville.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietname War. He was a lifetime member of the Lewisville Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. McGlaughn was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Lewisville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Liberty Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. The Rev. Dick Webster will officiate.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Survivors include his wife of Lewisville; sister, Jean Branum of Jacksonville; nieces and nephews.

Mary Reynolds

Decatur - Mary Helen Reynolds, 93, of Decatur, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Sunny Hills Nursing Center in Decatur.

She was born on May 27, 1907, in Lawrence. She married Elmer Lee Reynolds in Alvord. He is deceased.

Mrs. Reynolds was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Alvord Cemetery in Alvord. Ken Cates will officiate.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Dylan Turner

Ponder - Dylan James Turner, infant son of Derek and Angie Turner of Ponder, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

He was born July 10, 2000, in Denton.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Evaughn and Thea Hughes of Watauga, Sheila Turner of Denton and Gene and Joyce Turner of Ponder; great-grandmother Dessel Stark of Arkansas; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. His grandfather, James Wilson Tyner, is deceased.

J.W. Vaughn

Lake Dallas - J.W. Vaughn, 79, of Lake Dallas, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Careage Place in Pilot Point.

He was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Buff, Okla., to John and Ora (Braisher) Vaughn. He married Pauline (Poly) Blake in Lake Dallas on Dec. 7, 1979. She died May 20, 1989.

Mr. Vaughn served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Lake Dallas Volunteer Fire Department and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the chapel of Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home in Justin. The Rev. John Rasberry will officiate. Burial will be in Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home in Denton.

Survivors include his son, John Wayne Vaughn of Flower Mound; sister, Lavina Osborn of Denton; and two grandchildren. His sister, Eva Carson, is deceased.
