Samuel Crossman

Berkey, Ohio - Samuel E. "Bud" Crossman, 86, of Berkey, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Arbors at Sylvania.

Mr. Crossman was employed as a field representative for the Ohio Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, retiring in 1982. He was involved with the Berkey Volunteer Fire Department, was a Richfield Township Trustee and a member of the State Line Farm Bureau Council. Mr. Crossman was on the board of trustees at Farley United Methodist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Farley United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Burkett officiated. Burial was in Wolfinger Cemetery. Reeb Funeral Home of Sylvania, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association of Northwest Ohio.

Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Bakus of Tecumseh, Mich.; two sons, Lawrence Crossman of Denton and Thomas Crossman of Belton, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His wife, Vivian, and one grandson, are deceased.

Rosa Lee Mosley

Decatur - Rosa Lee Mosley, 87, of Decatur, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at a Decatur nursing home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Grapevine. She married Glenn Owen Mosley on Nov. 30, 1936, in Decatur. He is deceased.

Mrs. Mosley was a homemaker.

She was a member of Bell Baptist Church of Decatur.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 5, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home in Decatur. Don Spain will officiate, assisted by Sam Rector and Doug Vaughn. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Tim Terrell, Chad and Nathen Horner, Mark, Ron, Scott and Bart Mosley.

Survivors include three sons, Harold, Ray and David Mosley, all of Decatur; one daughter, Charlotte Horner of Decatur; one brother, Joe Simmons of Decatur; two sisters, Nellie Ruth Webb of Decatur and Zelma Plumlee of Coppell; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret Sheafor

Louisville, Colo. - Margaret Mize Strawn Sheafor, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, in Louisville.

She was born Aug. 4, 1912, in Topeka, Kan., to Cooper Henri and Caroline (Mize) Strawn. She married Harold Norman Sheafor on Oct. 23, 1937, in Topeka. He died in 1981.

Mrs. Sheafor was office manager at Kansas City Medical Supply. She lived in Topeka, Kan., from 1912 to 1959; Shreveport, La., 1959-1967; New Orleans, La., 1967-1981; Denton, 1981-1993; Los Gatos, Calif., 1993-2000; and in Louisville, Colo. this year.

She was Presbyterian and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in the chapel of Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Denton.

Memorials may be made to the Margaret Strawn Sheafor and Harold Norman Sheafor Leadership Scholarship Fund at Washburn University, c/o Washburn Endowment Association, Bradbury Thompson Center, 1700 SW College Ave., Topeka, Kan. 66621. Survivors include her son, Stephen James Sheafor of Boulder, Colo; and sister, Patricia Strawn Vinson Bryant of Denton.

Pearl Thomas

Pearl Julia Thomas, 80, of Denton, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born July 24, 1920, in Alvin, to Matthew Van Buren and Metta Mae (Rives) Armstrong. She married J. Henry Thomas on April 6, 1940 in Denton. She was a graduate of Mustang Community schools near Alvin and attended Texas State College of Women (now Texas Woman's University).

Mrs. Thomas and her husband owned and operated the T & T Egg Farm of Denton.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m Friday, Oct. 6, at Merit Cemetery in Merit. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home of Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at the family's residence.

Memorials may be made to the Merit Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 217, Merit, Texas 75458, or the charity of choice.

Survivors include her husband of Denton; two daughters, Ruby June McGuire of Roaring Springs and Reba Sue Westfall of Alamogordo, N.M.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One daughter, Ruth Ann McMath, one sister, and three brothers, are deceased.

Verna Solomon

Verna Lee Solomon, 100, of Denton, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Solomon was born May 10, 1900, in Aubrey, to Thomas Samuel and Sarah Jane (Millican) Maxwell. She attended North Texas Normal College, now the University of North Texas. She married Nathan Solomon in Denton County in 1921. She was a clerk and bookkeeper at Evers Hardware from 1943 until 1987. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Bassett officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Oct. 5, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Gary Massey, Dan Solomon, Mike Chambers, Lyle Chambers, Wesley Chambers and Steve Jones.

Survivors include her two sons, J.B Solomon and wife Sue of Denton, Jimmy Ray Solomon and wife Nancy of Plano; nine grandchildren, Linda DeLee, Dan Solomon, Jennifer Thomas, Scott Solomon, Patricia Austin, Janet Taylor, Karen Jones, Kim Chambers, Kelli Gravely; and 12 great-grandchildren, Jennie DeLee, Taylor Thomas, Christopher Thomas, Heidi Thomas, Megan Thomas, Alysha Gravely, Lyle Chambers, Wesley Chambers, Emilie Chambers, Steven Jones, Joe Jones, Brianna Jones.

She lived to see all her brothers and sisters pass away. She lived for and was loved by her family.

Mulkey-Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daisy Orton

Nacogdoches - Daisy Mary Gribble Orton, 83, of Nacogdoches, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Hemphill, to Madge Jones and Charles Goodrich Gribble. She married Sidney W. Orton on Feb. 26, 1944.

Mrs. Orton was a member of Daughters of the King at Christ Episcopal Church and supported the Christ Episcopal School.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7., at Christ Episcopal Church. Laird-McGill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal School, 502 E. Starr Ave., Nacogdoches, Texas 75961.

Survivors include her son, Richard S. Orton of Austin; daughter, Mechelle Sieg of Nacogdoches; sisters, Madge Askonas of Winnetka, Ill., and Ann Barnett of Denton.

Naomi Richey

Naomi Richey, 90, of Denton, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

She was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Aubrey, to James Lewis and Mary (Mountain) Steele. She graduated from Aubrey High School.

She married Purvis Dalton Richey on Nov. 29, 1930, in Marietta, Okla., and was a homemaker.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct, 6, at Belew Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Wages officiating. Mulkey-Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son are in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ann's Haven Hospice, 216 W. Mulberry, Denton, Texas 76201.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Lafferty of Chamberlain, S.D.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Rogelio Rivera Jr.

Rogelio "Gordy" Rivera Jr., 20, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000.

He was born Dec. 28, 1979, in Hale Center, to Rogelio and Sarah Aguilar Rivera Sr.

Mr. Rivera attended Denton High School and was employed by the Andrews Corporation.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 6, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Deacon Emilio Gonzalez officiating.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Immaculate Conception Church with Monsignor Charles B. King officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Adame, Chad Pierce, Daniel Quiroz, Kevin Sims, Jesse Aguilar and Brandon Williams.

Memorials may be made in the name of Rogelio "Gordy" Rivera Jr., to Teachers Credit Union.

Survivors include his parents of Denton; a daughter, Alyssa Lyric Rivera of Denton; a sister, Leonore Mireles of Denton; and a brother, Samuel A. Rivera of Denton.

Bertha Mills

Bertha Lee Mills, 83, of Denton, died at her residence Monday, Oct. 2, 2000.

She was born to James Lee and Annie Crawford, July 16, 1917, in Double Oak. She married Calvin Mills in Denton, April 11, 1963.

After attending nurses training at T.S.T.C., she assisted in the founding of a national organization of licensed vocational nurses, which later became a national education school for nurses. She worked as a surgical nurse at Flow Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with the Rev. Billy Cox officiating. Burial followed in Trinity Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wesley, Bryan, Johnny and Mike Harp, Chris Mills and Randy Dietzman.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Mills of Denton; four daughters, Louise Foss of Austin, Cathryn Patton of Krum, Deborah Breakfield of Houston, Barbara Dietzman and husband James Dietzman of Justin; son, Mark and wife Cherie Mills of Denton; grandchildren, Johnny Harp, Michael Harp, Randy Dietzman, Sonya Weaks, Kevin Mills, Chris Mills, Cody Mills, Misty Breakfield; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Bryan, Whitney and Dusty Harp, Stuart, Rendon, Quirt, Vanessa and Wyatt Dietzman; and a host of nieces and nephews and host of friends and relatives.

DeBerry Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Daryld Bomar

Argyle -- Daryld Wayne Bomar, 55, of Argyle died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his home.

He was born July 31, 1945, in Gainesville to Ernest and Bessie McDaniel Bomar. He married Lu Moore in Dallas on Oct. 12, 1974.

Mr. Bomar was a self-employed sales representative. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was the assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop 140. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Denton.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at First Baptist Church. Dr. Jeff Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Valley View.

Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton.

Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 140, 1100 Malone St., Denton, Texas 76201.

Survivors include his wife of Argyle; two daughters, Sheraly Ulbig of Houston and Andrea Bomar of Argyle; two sons, Scott Bomar of Houston and Alex Bomar of Argyle; his mother of Houston; a brother, Ernest Bomar of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Leslie Raines

Euless -- Leslie Alton Raines, 24, of Euless died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Colleyville.

He was born June 15, 1976, in Artesia, N.M.

He worked in the shipping department of Air Plus Ltd.

Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at First Baptist Church in Alvord. The Rev. Bill Cleveland officiated. Burial was in Alvord Cemetery.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Louie and Mary Raines of Whitsboro; his mother, Susan Raines of Euless; sisters, Candace Michelle Raines of Euless, Kelly Snyder of Whitesboro; grandparents, Berl and Helen Crockett of Bridgeport, and L.A. Raines of Springtown; and great-grandmother, Grace Moore of Colorado City.

Marjory Smaltz

Marjory J. Yoakam (Beebe) Smaltz, 74, of Cadillac, Mich., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her daughter's home in Cadillac.

She was born July 18, 1926, in Ypsilanti, Mich., to Raymond A. Yoakam and and Elizabeth Wismer. She married Milford E. Beebe on March 24, 1943, in Ypsilanti; he died in 1964. She married Eugene Smaltz on Oct. 21, 1975, in Sears; he died in 1989.

Mrs. Smaltz made her home in Evart off and on for the last 35 years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of the B.P.O.E. in La Junta, Colo., and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Reed City, Mich.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Corey Funeral Home in Evart, Mich. Burial will be in Udell Cemetery near Ypsilanti.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeannette (Beebe) Downs of Cadillac, Mich., Donna (Beebe) Caudill of Reed City, Mich., and Linda (Beebe) Walters of Evart, Mich.; three sons, Donald E. Beebe of Denton, Daniel M. Beebe of Reed City, Mich., and David W. Beebe of Evart, Mich.; two brothers, Raymond E. Yoakam of Grass Lake, Mich., and Victor C. Yoakam of Jackson, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
