Sharon Cummings

Sharon Cummings, 52, of Denton died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1948, in Camden, Ark., to Otto F. and Alyce Sherouse Cummings.

She graduated from Texas Woman's University, was a teacher at Strickland Middle School and was active in the Texas State Teacher Association.

She was Presbyterian.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in the auditorium of Ryan High School. The Rev. Duane A. Smith will officiate.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Memorial Park in Camden, Ark. DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Sharon Cummings Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Denton Public Schools, P.O. Box 2387, Denton, Texas 76202.

Survivors include a sister, Kay Smith of Greenville, Ohio.

Jewell Mosley

Alvord - Jewell Stockton Mosley, 97, of Alvord died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at a Decatur nursing home.

She was born April 3, 1903, in Wanette, Okla. She married Richard L. Stockton on Sept. 2, 1920. He preceded her in death. She then married John F. Mosley on June 13, 1966. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Mosley was the owner of the Stockton Cafe in Alvord for many years. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the First Baptist Church of Alvord. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at First Baptist Church of Alvord with Bill Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in Alvord Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John French, Casey French, Alan Webb, Rick Stockton, Rusty Stockton and James Stockton.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur.

Survivors include two sons, Floyd Mosley of Alvord and Jack Mosley of Andrews; three daughters, Nola Webb, Bobbie Barclay and Jatha Hutchison, all of Alvord; one brother, Ray Allen of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Carrie Wells

Carrollton - Carrie Bell Abbott Wells, 101, of Carrollton died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Carrollton.

She was born June 5, 1899, in Justin to Edgar and Mary Walker Abbott. She married Jim Willis Wells, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wells was a retired nurses' aide.

She was Baptist.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home in Denton with the Rev. Bill Black officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Imogene Singleton of Carrollton; a son, Leo Wells of Denton; a sister, Willie Mae Grimes of Leonard; two stepsons, Woody Wells of Allen and Raymond Wells of Corinth; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 39 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Hewitt

Pilot Point - Mary Frances Hewitt, 57, of Pilot Point, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at her residence.

Mrs. Hewitt was born June 26, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., to Ed and Mary Coats Greenlee.

She married Bobby Bryant Hewitt Sr., on Aug. 18, 1961, in Little Rock, Ark. Mrs. Hewitt handled the accounting needs of Empire Countertops Inc. in Pilot Point.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Midway Baptist church in Aubrey with the Rev. John Theisen officiating. Burial will be in Belew Cemetery, Aubrey.

Pallbearers will be Ruben Rodrigues, George Villegas, Pedero Villarreal, Tony Hernandez, Ryan Hewitt and Joell Santiago. Honorary pallbearers will be Blas Acevedo and Joe Riley.

Visitation times will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 14, as well as 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 16, at Huff-Slay Funeral Home, Pilot Point.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Bobby Hewitt Sr. of Pilot Point; son, Bobby Hewitt Jr. of Pilot Point; daughters, Diania Lynn Hill of Princeton, Laneva Louise Hewitt of Pilot Point; seven grandchildren, Joell Santiago, Ryan Hewitt, Vanessa Santiago, Hunter Hewitt, Billy Hewitt, Holly Hewitt, Tanner Hill; mother, Mary Greenlee of Aubrey, three brothers, Doug Greenlee of Aubrey, Donald Greenlee of The Colony, James Greenlee of Kemp; mother-in-law, Helen Stokes of Conway Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her father, Mr. Ed Greenlee, is deceased.

Boneta T. Kersten

Boneta Theresa Kersten, 88, of Denton died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Denton Regional Medical Center. She was born March 21, 1912, in Appleton, Minn., to Otis and Tessie Timmins Main.

Ms. Kersten was a seamstress and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at the Chapel of Mulkey Mason Funeral Home with Dr. Edwin S. Malone officiating. Burial will follow in the Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include five sons, Mike Kersten of Denton, Dick Kersten of Shady Shores, Bob Kersten of Denton, Jim Kersten of Denton, Matt Kersten of Dallas; a daughter, Colleen Mitchell of Azle; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cletha Jones

Cletha Jones, 87, of Denton died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Vintage Care Center.

She was born July 18, 1913, in Dallas to Charles Wilburn and Matilda Kathryn Hedrick Lofland.

Mrs. Jones was a graduate of North Texas State College and was a school teacher. She also worked for Acme Brick Co. and for more than 20 years ran a home child-care business.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton. The Rev. John Stout will officiate. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Center Foundation, Dallas Chapter, 765 Northpark Center, Dallas, Texas 75225.

Survivors include a daughter, Judi Jones Beltran of Denton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Venici Mann

Sanger - Venici Mann, 80, of Sanger died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Sanger.

She was born May 1, 1920, in Almyra, Ark., to Austin Franklin Thomas Sr. and Lillian Irene Goodale Thomas. She attended Forrest City High School.

Mrs. Mann was a retired bank teller for First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, Ark.

Survivors include a daughter, Lana Newman of Sanger; and two sisters, Velmagene Gray and Ellen Halbert, both of Heber Springs, Ark.

Louis Miller

Tioga - Louis Ray Miller, 58, of Tioga died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.

He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Sherman to Roy R. and Dorothy May Enochs Miller.

He was employed as a maintenance worker for Johnson & Johnson in Sherman.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point. The Rev. Luther Slay will officiate. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his mother of Tioga; one daughter, Keri M. Pell of Holland, Mich.; one brother, Jerry Don Miller of Tioga; and one sister, Connie Nortman of Gainesville.

Lila Splawn

Rhome - Lila Jean Splawn, 72, of Rhome died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Decatur Community Hospital.

She was born July 1, 1928, in Ponder, and she married Windell Splawn on March 19, 1947, in Rhome.

Mrs. Splawn was a special education school teacher retired from Seven Hills Elementary School in the Northwest Independent School District.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home of Decatur. Wilson Kirkland will officiate. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery in Boyd.

Pallbearers will be Bob Noble, Gilbert Smith, David Splawn, Jonathan Splawn, George Wright and Jimmy Wright.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband of Rhome; two sons, Windell Splawn Jr. of Decatur and David Splawn of Tyler; one brother, Ernest Wright of Bridgeport; one sister, Lynda Smith of Harker Heights; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Patricia Bryant

Patricia Ann Bryant, 81, of Denton, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 3, 1919, in Topeka, Kan., to Henri Cooper and Caroline Mae Strawn. She was married to Earl Ellis Vinson, who died Feb. 1, 1984. On Oct. 17, 1996, she married William H. Bryant.

Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker and the former owner-operator of Dance Studio. She was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Denton Regional Medical Center and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clint Long officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home.

Survivors include husband, William H. Bryant of Denton; daughters, Debby Hooper of Dallas and Vicky Wardlaw of Aubrey; stepdaughter, Gretchen Campbell of Fort Worth; stepson, Joe Bryant of Denton; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Ann's Haven Hospice or the American Cancer Society, Denton unit.

Winona Loney

Mesquite - Winona M. Loney, 92, of Mesquite, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Baylor Medical Center, Garland.

She was born March 18, 1908, in Fort Covington to Floyd David and Elizabeth MacKenna.

She was a former teacher in New York and a member of Saint Cecilia Parish and Guild in Dallas. She worked for National Van Lines.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Carl Vogel officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Peritz of McKinney, and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

Katie Boyles

Katie Boyles, 80, of Denton, passed away Sunday Dec. 3, 2000, at the Cross Timbers Nursing Center in Flower Mound.

She was born in Frisco, Oct. 12, 1920, to Lewis Charles and and Callie Effie (Wilson) Norris. She married J.V. Boyles in Ardmore, Okla. on Feb. 13, 1936. J.V. passed away on April 8, 1972.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Katie is survived by her son Jack and wife Pam Boyles of Sugarland; her daughter, Joyce Hanna of Lake Dallas; her grandchildren, Robert Scott Boyles and Stephanie Boyles, both of Houston, Sara Boyles of Sugarland, Robin Hanna of Lake Dallas and Julie Hanna of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Leigh Hanna of Lake Dallas and Matthew Boyles of
Billings, Mont.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in the Mulkey-Mason Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Collins officiating. Burial will be in Little Elm Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.
