Donny Cox

Lewisville - Donny Ray Cox, 25, of Lewisville died Thursday, April 26, 2001.

He was born Aug. 5, 1975, in Euless, to James L. and Charlotte E. Brown Cox. On Sept. 8, 1999, he married Lea Alene Dykes in Corinth.

Mr. Cox worked for CSI as a cabinetmaker.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corinth.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the First Baptist Church in Corinth. The Rev. David Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Flower Mound Cemetery.

The family will be at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, April 29, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Donny Cox Memorial Fund.

Survivors include his wife, Lea Cox of Lewisville; one son, Dakota Cox of Lewisville; his father and stepmother, James and Sheila Cox of Lewisville; two sisters, Rochelle Sullivan of Corinth and Misty Cox of Houston; one brother, Larry Wayne Cox of Fort Worth; and grandparents, Ruth Martin and Dorothy Brown of Euless.

Florence Donnelly

Little Elm - Florence Inez Donnelly, 77, of Little Elm died Friday, April 27, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Elm Mott, to Arthur James and Mary Zelma Wheeler Neel. On Dec. 2, 1923, she married Philip John Donnelly in MN. Andover, Mass. He died in February 1975.

Mrs. Donnelly was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Little Elm.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Cantrell Funeral Chapel in Frisco. the Rev. Ron Hathcoat wil preside. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.

The family will be at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. today,Sunday, April 29, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Windsor of Denton and Patricia Trujillo of Flower Mound; one brother, Bill Neel of Hilltop Lakes; two sisters, Bonnie Cochran of Hilltop Lakes and Betty Stafford of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Dean Patterson

Decatur - Dean Dillon Patterson was born and died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Wise Regional Health Systems in Decatur.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, in Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Eddie Hooker will officiate.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, April 29, for visitation.

Survivors include his parents, Irene and Tony Patterson of Chico; his grandparents, Don and Shirley Stewart of Decatur, Bob and Gladys Walker of Ranger, and Chester Patterson of Grapevine; three sisters, Brandi and Brittany Mercer of Chico, and Kathryn Patterson of Austin; and one brother, Tracy Patterson of Chico.

Lena Lyle Wilson

Gainesville - Lena "Sister" Lyle Wilson, 95, of Gainesville died Friday, April 27, 2001, at the Wheeler House in Gainesville.

She was born Nov. 3, 1905, in Gainesville. In October 1925, she married Ruel Wilson in Gainesville.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Church of Christ faith.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, in Bolivar Cemetery. The Rev. Martha Mattner will officiate. Clement-Keel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Cooke County Home Hospice, P.O. Box 936, Gainesville 76241.

Survivors include one son, George Wilson of Midland; one daughter, Ruelene Daycomb of Orangeville, Utah; two sisters, Geneva Lyle and Billie Taylor, both of Gainesville; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice Mitchell

She was born to Dixie Boyd and Nellie Knight Boyd of Lewisville on Jan. 1, 1912, the 24th birthday of her mother. She was a fourth generation descendant of the Joseph Knights, who were granted land in Peter's Colony in 1846, near Flower Mound, and a fifth generation descendant of the McCombs-Lott-Boyd families who came to Texas in 1855 and bought land near what was later to be Lewisville. They settled on what has long been known as Boyd's Hill.

Bernice attended Lewisville public schools until she moved with her family to Denton in 1927.

In 1927, she became a member of Central Presbyterian Church, now St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and served as trustee and ordained deacon in later years.

Bernice entered Denton High School and graduated in 1930 as president of her class, and was literary editor of the Bronco yearbook.

On June 2, 1930, she was employed by the Denton County National Bank, now Bank One, as the first "girl banker" in Denton. She was hired for the summer only but she retired as vice president forty-six years later on Dec. 31, 1976. President J. W. Degan agreed to let her attend early morning classes at NTSTC, which she did for tw years, where she met L. Joe Mitchell, a student from Athens, and married him in April 1932.

President Bill King and the board of directors, officers and employees honored her with a day-long retirement reception, after which she was heart to say, "...send me no flowers when I die. I have had more than my share while I am here to enjoy them."

During Bernice's retirement years she devoted her efforts to restoring the private farm cemetery at Lewisville. Her great-grandfather Boyd was the first person known to have been buried there in 1856 and her great-great-grandmother McCombs was buried at night by her sons to escape Indian detection in 1867, one of the last to be buried there.

During her years in banking she was a member and group chairmain of the Dallas-Fort Worth-North Texas chapter of the National Association of Bank Women, Inc. After sponsoring women's finance forums for her bank in 1963 and 1964, she was named Woman of the Year by the Denton Business and Professional Women's Club in 1965.

She earned certification achievement from Management Seminar for Women Executives, conducted by Dallas College of Southern Methodist University in 1964 and attended Governor Preston Smith's first annual Governor's Conference on the Status of Women in Austin in 1970. She was later commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas by Governor Dolph Briscoe, receiving letters of commendation from him and also from Secretary of Treasury, William E. Simon and President Gerald R. Ford, on her retirement. Mayor Elinor Hughes proclaimed Bernice Mitchell Day.

She was a former member of Friends of the Girl Scounts, Denton County Historical Society, Knife and Fork Club and a charter member of the Denton chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 West Oak Street at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30.

She was predeceased by a grandson, John Boyd Mitchell. She is survived by her son, Joseph L. Mitchell of Denton; also by her granddaughter, Lezlie Mitchell Haynes, grandson, Charles "Chuck" Mitchell and wife, Cathy, and their mother, Caralou B. Mitchell, all of Fort Worth; four great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Boyd Stapler of Shady Shores and Mildred McCauley Hawk of Denton; six nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece.

The family requests no flowers. If memorials are desired, please remember the "McCombs Cemetery Association," c/o Jonita Boyd Borchart, attorney at law, 101 North Elm, Denton 76201.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. No visitation is planned.

Mary Frances Cannon

Mary Frances Cannon, 81, of Denton died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Dallas to Joseph Benton Fleming and Bessie Cavender.

She was a retired L.V.N. nurse.

The service will be at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, April 28, at Memorial Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Wilkins will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Cannon of Denton; two daughters, Earlene Redfern of Aubrey and Mary Henson of Hobbs, N.M.; two sons, Bill Gaston of Red Oak and Eddie Gaston of Forney; eight grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. Her first husband, Tommy Gaston, is deceased.

Daniel Lee Hoppes

Daniel Lee Hoppes, 52, of Denton died April 24, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 8, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio, to George Fredrick and Betty Jane (Cramer) Hoppes.

Mr. Hoppes served in the United State Marines and was a finish carpenter.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Schoedinger-Linden chapel in Columbus, Ohio. Entombment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include his parents, George and Betty Hoppes of Columbus, Ohio; and two brothers, George and Charles Hoppes of Columbus, Ohio.

Bernice Mitchell

Bernice Boyd Mitchell, 89, of Denton died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 12, 1912, in Lewisville to Dixie and Nellie (Knight) Boyd.

She was a 1930 graduate of Denton High School and attended NTSTC. She was hired on June 2, 1930, by the Denton County National Bank, now Bank One, and retired as vice president forty-six years later on Dec. 31, 1976. She was a charter member of the Denton chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where she served as trustee and ordained deacon.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. The Reverends Steve Plunkett and Clint Loveall will officiate.

Memorials may be made to McCombs Cemetery Association, c/o Jonita Boyd Bochart, 101 North Elm Street, Denton, TX 76201.

Survivors include one son, Joseph L. Mitchell of Denton; two sisters, Ruth Boyd Stapler of Shady Shores and Mildred McCauley Hawk of Denton; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. One grandson, John Boyd, is deceased.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Stinnett

Texarkana - Richard Martin Stinnett, 53, of Texarkana died Tuesday, April 24, 2001. He was born June 27, 1947, in Gainesville.

He was the district operations manager for Pilkington Corporation and a member of the Texas and Arkansas C.P.A. Associations.

He was member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel of the Texarkana Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Anthony McLaughlin officiated. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Stinnett of Texarkana; one son, Zach Stinnett of Texarkana; one daughter, Barbie Stinnett of Denton; his mother, Pearl Fortenberry of Gainesville; one sister, Sharon Stinnett of Lewisville; and one brother, Wilson Stinnett of Gainesville.

Thomas Krause

Coppell - Thomas Raymond Krause, 59, of Coppell, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at the Medical Center of Lewisville.

He was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Dallas to Cyril H. and Sammie V. Candiotta Krause. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietname War. On Nov. 17, 1990, he married his wife Maggie, in Mesquite.

He was a member of the Vista Ridge United Methodist Church in Lewisville.

A service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Vista Ridge United Methodist Church in Lewisville. The Rev. Tom Palmer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Lungs for Life, 37 Oak Hill View, Rochester, NY 14611.

Survivors include his wife of Coppell; three sons, Jeffrey Krause of Garland, Paul Krause of Plano and John Musel of Grove City, Ohio; four daughters, Cheryl Carey of Wilmer, Sherry Kenney of Hector, Minn., Dawn Berry of Hutchinson, Minn., and Michelle Musel of Hutchins; one sister, Mary Petrasic of Lewisville; one brother, Herman Krause of Mesquite; and 12 grandchildren.

Rayma McMenamy

Aubrey - Rayma Lea McMenamy, 41, of Aubrey, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

She was born Oct. 1, 1959, in Texarkana, Ark., to James Mason and Vedia Miller Mason. On May 16, 1987, she married Richard McMenamy at the Gribble Springs Baptist Church north of Denton.

Mrs. McMenamy was a school secretary for Aubrey Elementary School. She was active in the Relay for Life and was a basketball coach for the Aubrey Area Youth Sports.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey. The Rev. Elmer Cummings will officiate. Burial will be in Belew Cemetery in Aubrey.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, April 27, for visitation.

Survivors includes her husband of Aubrey; two daughters, Danyell McMenamy and Amanda McMenamy, both of Aubrey; one son, Andy McMenamy of Aubrey; her parents of Cartwright, Okla.; three sisters, Vicki Mason of Virginia, Barb Mason of Elgin, Okla., and Donna Baker of Geronimo, Okla.; and one brother, James Mason Jr. of Virginia.
