Larry Ballard

North Richland Hills - Larry Richard Ballard, 45, of North Richland Hills, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Fort Worth.

He was born July 13, 1955, in Dallas, to Lloyd and Lorena (Boelter) Ballard. He attended Irving High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Ballard was owner/operator of Low-Ball Truckin'. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was Lutheran.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home of Denton. The Rev. Russell Tieken will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, April 24, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his parents of Denton; his wife, Jean-Ann Enlow of North Richland Hills; one daughter, Karly Ballard of Melbourne, Fla.; one son, Larry Ballard Jr. of Irving; one sister, Loretta Clark of Montgomery; and one granddaughter.

Margaret Gray

Margaret Johnston Gray, 90, of Denton, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in a Fort Worth hospital.

She was born March 19, 1911, in McClean, to Scott and Willie Johnston. In 1928 she married Jack A. Gray, and they made their home in the Panhandle area before moving to Denton in 1941.

Mrs. Gray was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star #259, and a mother advisor of the Denton Rainbow Girls.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in Cole Chapel of the First United Methodist Church. Her son, Jack A. Gray Jr., and the Rev. Richard Dunagin, of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, April 24, at DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761-5186.

Survivors include her son of Denton; one daughter, Joyce Gray Seifert of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Franklin Marsh

Rhome - Franklin D. Marsh, 62, of Rhome, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Fort Worth.

He was born March 17, 1939, in Ranger. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Marsh retired as a machinist from A T & L Industries.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home in Decatur.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Marsh of Austin and Franklin D. Marsh Jr. of Big Spring; and five grandchildren.

Gary F. Davenport

Gary Ferrell Davenport, 55, an always giving and loving, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, went to his Father's arms Sunday morning, April 22, 2001, after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 21, 1945, and resided in Argyle, Texas. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" 2 Timothy 4:7-8. Gary gave so freely of his love and self to so many people, touching so many lives.

He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Sandy; son, Gary Hudson and wife Amber; three precious grandchildren, Dakota, Cooper and Maddison; mother and stepfather, Ida and Lloyd Turney; mother-in-law, Ollie Sharp; brother, Dennis and wife Jo; sister, Cindi and husband Jeff; brother-in-law, Kirk Sharp and wife Jan; step-brother, David Turney; step-sisters, Cherie Pierce and Renee Hale; eight nieces and nephews; one great-niece; and so many aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends.

Gary was a businessman in Farmers Branch/Carrollton, Texas for 32 years. He was a member of the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge in Farmers Branch, local Shriner, a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Argyle and an on-going sponsor and supporter of many community organizations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. "Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" 2 Corinthians 4:15-18.

We would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at the Medical Center of Lewisville for showing such loving compassion toward Gary and his family. The Davenport family is greatly appreciative of all prayers during this time. May God bless you all.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Restland Memorial Chapel, Greenville Avenue, 1/2 mile north of L.B.J., Dallas, with Brother Bill Pritchett and Mark Dallalio officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joe Sides, Bill Sides, Larry Chappell, Joe Wilhite, Jimmy Ray Weaver, Charles Weaver, Sonny Phillips, Floyd Phillips, Mike Phillips and Jack Halbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Green, Robert Zane Nail, Jeff Henry, Edgar Blanco, Tommy Barnett, Hector Tierrofria, Donny Sides, Wilbur Lancaster and the Men's Group at First Baptist Church of Argyle, Texas.

There will be an open visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.

Emmett England

Lewisville - Emmett R. "Katy" England, 90, of Lewisville died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Medical Center of Lewisville.

He was born June 19, 1910, in Ely to Jerry Lonnie and Elizabeth A. McCormick England. He married Mary M. Savage in Lewisville on July 16, 1935.

Mr. England had worked for Huffines Gas and Oil and the Katy Railroad.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lewisville and the Wesley Sunday School class.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Lewisville. The Rev. Edd Painter and the Rev. John Mollet will officiate. Burial will be in Old Hall Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, April 23, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, or to the Wesley Sunday School Class Memorial Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 907 W. Main St., Lewisville, Texas 75067.

Survivors include his wife of Lewisville; one daughter, Linda England of Lewisville; two sisters, Pearl Wootton and Lonnie Ethridge, both of Denton; and one brother, Howard England of Fort Worth.

Grady L. Stone

Boyd - Grady Leon Stone, age 52, of Boyd, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his residence.

Grady was born in Decatur on Nov. 21, 1948, to Hayward and Lucille Scaff Stone. He attended Justin Elementary School, Northwest High School and Cooke County Junior College. He married Alice Swafford Tice in Boyd, Texas, Dec. 3, 1988.

He coached Pee-Wee football, baseball, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Justin. Grady was a service specialist for Lone Star Gas, now TXU, and also worked for Moore Salvage in Justin.

Grady is survived by his wife Alice, and mother Lucille, both of Boyd; daughters, Cathy and husband Scott Vass of Nashville, Tenn., and Cheryl and husband Shane Thompson of Decatur; sons, Brent and wife Morie Stone, and grandson, Trevor, of Fort Worth, Randy and wife Ann Tice of Fort Worth; sister, Linda and husband Doug Whitworth of Boyd; brother, Harvey and wife Jan Stone of Rockdale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the First Baptist Church in Justin. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eakin Cemetery, Ponder, Texas. Bro. Jimmy Withers will be officiating the service.

Pallbearers are Tim Taylor, Lyn Cordell, David Smith, Kerry James, Steve Wagner and Rick Wood.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home of Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Homer W. Schertz

Homer Walter Schertz went to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:20 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, at The Vintage Nursing Home.

His wife of 56 years, Jessie McFarlin Schertz, three sons and one daughter survive him: Sam and Dorothy Schertz of Corpus Christi, Texas, Danny and Sandra Schertz of Krum, Texas, Ricky and Susie Schertz of Sanger, Texas, Carolyn Schertz Mallard of Sanger, Texas; five grandsons, Matthew Schertz and Jeffrey Schertz of Lubbock, Texas, Michael and wife Amy Schertz of Decatur, Texas, Kristopher and wife Stacy Schertz of Sanger, Texas, and Jonathan Mallard of Sanger, Texas; two granddaughters, Michelle Schertz Pieniazek and husband Ryan Pieniazek of Denton, Texas, and Tiffany Schertz of Sanger, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Sterling Pieniazek and Taylor Beth Schertz; one sister, Ruby Finch and husband H.T. Finch of Denton; and bother and sisters-in-law, George and Gladys McFarlin of Refugio, Texas, Johnny and Billie McFarlin of Crowley, Texas, Dorothy and Burl Newton or North Richland Hills, Texas, and Cornelia Lemley of Plano, Texas. His parents, Emil and Lydia Schertz, and brothers, Marvin Schertz and Eddie Schertz of Denton, Texas, precede him in death.

Homer was born July 28, 1923, in Denton County, Texas, the third son of Emil M. and Lydia Elizabeth (Trietsch) Schertz. He graduated from North Texas Demonstration High School. He was the song leader and member of Blue Mound United Methodist Church for 41 years and chairman of the board for three terms. Homer farmed and ranched his whole life and sold Germania Insurance and retired in 1985 after 28 years as maintenance supervisor for the Denton Independent School District. He was a member of the Sanger Church of Christ since 1997.

Pallbearers will be the grandchildren of their Paw Paw.

A memorial celebration of Homer's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Sanger Church of Christ, located on the corner of Fifth and Cherry streets, Sanger, Texas. John Payne will officiate the services. Interment will be at Blue Mound Community Cemetery, located at I-35N and Milam Road, Denton, Texas.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, located at 705 N. Locust Street, Denton, Texas.

Memorials may be made to Blue Mound Community Cemetery, c/o 815 N. Elm Street, #6, Denton, Texas 76201.

Jean E. Carson

On April 15, 2001, Easter Sunday, Jean Ellen Jackson Carson died peacefully in her home at the Marina Senior Care Center in Alameda, Calif. By her side were her husband Gregg and her daughter Sharon. In attendance were the many nurses and aides who lovingly took care of her for over nine years.

Jean is survived by her brother Robert and her two other children, Diane and Matthew.

Jean was born in Denton, Texas, on Aug. 13, 1927. She attended and graduated from Texas State College for Women in 1948, majoring in voice and music. Her talents were extraordinary.

After marriage and the birth of her first two children, Jean and her family moved to California. While raising her children, Jean continued her love of music as an instructor and a valued member of her church choir.

Jean will be forever in our hearts and imprinted on our souls.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton. Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home in Burlson, Texas, is handling the arrangements.

Violet Prillwitz

Argyle - Violet Lorene Prillwitz, 81, of Argyle died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Vintage Health Care Center.

She was born July 15, 1919, in Seadrift to Guy Meek and Alice Wilmeth Dowda Meek. She graduated from Raymondville High School.

Mrs. Prillwitz was a day care manager in Coppell before she retired.

The service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Argyle Church of Christ. David Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in Graham-Argyle Cemetery.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 3 to 4 p.m. today, Sunday, April 22, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hitchcock of Bartonville and Laura Prillwitz of Denton; one son, Ted Prillwitz of Berrien Springs, Mich.; two sisters, Claudene Bounds of Houston and Dollie Bennett of Conroe; two brothers, Leon Meek of College Station, seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her brother, Glen Taylor is deceased.

Louise West

El Dorado, Kan. - Louise L. West, 83, of El Dorado, Kan., formerly of Denton, died Friday, April 20, 2001, in El Dorado.

She was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Oswin and Almeda Ludicke. On March 26, 1941, she married Gaines West in Stillwater, Okla. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. West was a homemaker and very active in many organizations in Denton. She was a member of the Denton Center Wives Club, Monday Bible Study, and several bridge clubs.

She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebecca Circle.

A family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Denton. Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado, Kan., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ann's Hospice in Denton.

Survivors include one son, Gaines West Jr. of College Station; one daughter, Linda Billingsley of El Dorado, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Bobby Whitehead

Krum - Bobby Gene Whitehead, 63, of Krum died Friday, April 20, 2001, in Dallas.

He was born March 4, 1938, in Dallas. He was a carpenter.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, in Aurora Cemetery, Aurora.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 4 to 6 p.m. tonight, Sunday, April 22, for visitation.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Christine Brewer of Krum; two brothers, James Whitehead of Rhome and William Whitehead, both of Rhome; and one granddaughter. His son, Michael Leonard Whitehead, is deceased.

Janice Khan

Janice Sue Khan, 46, of Denton, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Denton Community Hospital.

She was born May 5, 1594, in Denton, to Samie Monroe and Ruby Vesta (Sauls) Allen. On April 4, 1988, she married Amir Ali Khan in Denton.

Mrs. Khan was a graduate of Denton public schools and was a homemaker.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Cooper Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Buddy Owens will officiate.

The family will be at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Sun Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 22, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband, Amir; one daughter, Ali Khan of Denton; one son Amir Ali Khan II of Denton; and one sister, Pamela Kay Allen.
