Mariano Leyva
Mariano Romera Leyva, 60, of Denton, died May 1, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 27, 1940, in San Antonio, where he graduated from high school. On Aug. 13, 1961, he married Maria Rojas in San Antonio.
Mr. Leyva was a furnace operator at Trinity Industries when he retired.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Grace Temple Baptist Church. The Rev. Jose G. Mata will officiate. Visitation will follow the service.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Leyva Jr., Robert Miranda, Jose Rosles, Rudy Leyva, Tony Juarez and Ben Becerra.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.
Survivors include his wife of Denton; two daughters, Erlinda Chavez and Sylvia "Tina" Leyva, both of Denton; three sons, Mario Leyva Jr., Arturo Leyva and Ernesto Leyva, all of Denton; two sisters, Aurora Velasco and Janie Saenz, both of San Antonio; and eight grandchildren.
Rose Aldaq
Rose Eleanor Aldaq, 79, of Denton died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Quincy, Ill.
Ms. Aldaq was a town clerk.
The service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, at Darling and Fischer Funeral Chapel in Los Gatos, Calif. Burial will be in Los Gatos Memorial Park. Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home in Denton was in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Virgil Aldaq of Corinth; two daughters, Bonnie Foster of Carnelian Bay, Calif., and Janet Speeding of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jack Millican
Jack M. Millican, 81, of Denton died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital in Kerrville.
He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Denton to L.T. and Earle Ida (Gillespie) Millican.
Mr. Millican attended Denton schools.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dana Nelson
Lake Dallas - Dana Christine Nelson, 50, of Lake Dallas died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at her home.

Edwin Whitehead
Edwin D. Whitehead, 60, of Denton, passed from this earth into the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, May 2, 2001.
Ed was born on July 8, 1940, in Ropesville, Texas, to L.E. "Doc" and Hester Whitehead.
On Valentine's Day, 1958, Ed took Betty K. Collins of Brownfield to be his bride.
Ed was a mechanic in his father's garage in Ropesville. He and Betty had two children, Teresa and Tracy, before moving to Denton in 1969.
After a brief time in Denton, Ed found himself working as a custodian for the University of North Texas. Through his hard work and dedication, Ed became general supervisor in custodial services. He held that position until his retirement in 1999, after almost 30 years of service.
Ed was a member of Collegeview Baptist Church, which is now McKinney Street Baptist Church.
Ed fought a 15-month battle with cancer, which he has now lost. But, our loss is Heaven's gain and Ed took comfort in knowing that his eternity is assured.
Many are the friends he leaves behind. He was a true friend in every way and he has blessed the lives of all of us by his loyalty and compassion.
Services will be held in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in Denton, as well as a graveside service at 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, with Dr. E.L. McNeal officiating at both services.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Denton; daughter, Teresa Keel of Brownfield; son, Tracy Whitehead of Woodland Park, Colo., and his wife Lani; mother, Hester Whitehead of Ropesville; sister, Georgia Cox of Wolfforth and her husband Tom; brothers, Maurice Whitehead of Ropesville and his wife Peggy; Harrell Whitehead of Ropesville and his wife Brittany Keel, both of Brownfield.
His father, L.E. "Doc" Whitehead and his beloved twin brother, Edgar, preceded Ed in death.

Allison Eblen
Allison Eblen was born May 25, 1918, in Paducah, and passed away May 2, 2001, in Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Eblen. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Nell Eblen, the love of his life; his son, Mark Eblen; his daughter, Vickie Bostick; step-sons, Tim, Terry and James Campbell; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Nipper; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one nephew, James L. Eblen.
He was a medic in the Army during WWII. He joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in August, 1952.
He loved church activities, square dancing and his family but, most of all, he loved God.
The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Cindy Chapel, First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone Street, Denton. The Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of North Texas Cremation Society, 14675 Midway Road, Addison, Texas 75001.
Mary Jo Nelson
Wylie - Mary Jo Nelson, 66, of Wylie died Wednesday, May 2, 2001.
She was born April 23, 1935, in Denton to Fred and Burl (Howard) Bishop.
Mrs. Nelson was a retired diffusion technician for Texas Instruments.
She was Baptist.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Allen Funeral Chapel in Wylie. The Rev. Thomas Maynard will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in I.O.O.F Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, for visitation.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Nelson of Wylie; four daughters, Mary Arleen White of Lewisville, Linda Ann Clair of Dallas, Sandra Traugott of Wylie, and Rene Muellner of Irving; one son, William Arnold Clair of Ferris; and six grandchildren.

Dana Nelson
Dana Christine Nelson, 50, of Lake Dallas, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. Nelson was born Jan. 20, 1951, in Denver City, to Loyd and Nina Olivia (Irvin) Jackson. She was a member of the International Church of Christ and was a caretaker for the Denton State School.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, in the chapel of Mulkey- Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home with Nick Young and Ben Doke officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Dallas. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at the funeral home.
Survivors include her son, Billy Nelson of Denton; mother and step-father, Nina and Tom King of Quinlan; sister and husband, Tina and Richard Martin of Lake Dallas; brothers, Randy Jackson of Lake Dallas and Andy Jackson of Dallas.
Agnes Bonk
Agnes V. Bonk, 87, of Denton died Friday, May 4, 2001 at The Vintage Health Care Center.
She was born April 9, 1914, in Ghent, Minn., to Phillip Regnier and Maude DePover Regnier. On Dec. 27, 1941, she married Edward C. Bonk in Ghent, Minn.
Mrs. Bonk was a teacher for the Denton Independent School District.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles King will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Pallbearers will be John Curry, James Hedstrom, Steven Hedstrom, Jim O'Flaherty, Joe Pelzel, and Ray Twehous.
Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Edward C. Bonk of Denton; one daughter, Suzanne Hedstrom of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one son, Thomas Bonk of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Evelyn Sanders of Worthington, Minn., and Rita Banks of Ghent, Minn.; two brothers, Harold Regnier of Rochester, Minn., and Gilbert Regnier of Englewood, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Bethena Brosz
Bethena Lynn Brosz, 19, of Denton died Thursday, May 3, at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
She was born Oct. 10, 1981, in Dallas.
Miss Brosz was named in Who's Who in American High School Students in 1998 and 1999 while at Denton High School. She was a student at the University of North Texas. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 Monday, May 7, for visitation.
Survivors include her parents, Janet and Terry Shires of Denton and Charles and Sheila Brosz of Rowlett; four sisters, Sarah Burwell of Rowlett, Stephanie Self of Dallas and Alicia Shires and Marcia Lewis, both of Denton; one brother, Tracy Shires of Denton; grandparents, Bill and Betty Holeman of Azle, JoAnn Brosz of Garland, Mel and Mary Brosz of Dallas, and Pat and LeRoy Smith of Fort Gibson, Okla.; and her great-grandmother, Cora Lee Shelley of Dallas.
George Jacob
George Michael Jacob, 73, of Denton died Friday, May 4, at Denton Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Edward and Frances Maidlof. On Dec. 28, 1948, he married Dorothy J. Dowdy in Hayfield, Ky.
Mr. Jacob served in the U.S. Navy on LST 599 during World War II and later in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a master plumber.
He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.
The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. The Rev. Randell Turner will officiate.
The family will be at Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, May 6, for visitation.
Survivors include his wife of Denton; two sons, Michael Jacob of North Little Rock, Ark., and Richard Jacob of Denton; one daughter, Carol Ann Jacob of Plano; one brother, Edward Jacob of Pacifica, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
