Robert Cooper

Aubrey - Robert Elsworth Cooper, 52, of Aubrey died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Denton Regional Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1948, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to Alfred Elsworth and Gloria Jean (Woodruff) Cooper. On Aug. 1, 1987, he married Kathleen Starkey in Dover, Ohio.

Mr. Cooper served in the U.S. Army during the Vietname War. He was a carpenter.

He was a member of Gribble Spring Baptist Church.

The service will be held today, Sunday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Rumwaldt will officiate. Burial will take place later in Grandview Cemetery in Scio, Ohio.

Memorials may be made to the Crohn Foundation, 2655 Villa Creek #111, Dallas, Texas 75234.

The family will be at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, May 6, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Cooper of Aubrey; five sons, Steven Cooper of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Robert Eugene Cooper of Coshcton, Ohio, Kyle and Kevin Cooper, both of Dover, Ohio, and Eric Evans of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Holly Swingheimer of Canton, Ohio, and Jinnie Galloway of Douglasville, Ga.; two sisters, Donna Morris of Denton and Conetta Schramm of St. Clairsville, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.

Richard Coleman

Richard C. Coleman, 64, of Denton died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at his residence.

He was born July 25, 1936, in Kansas City, Kan., to Elmer and Janie Coleman.

Mr. Coleman was a delivery driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts.

He was a member of Cross Points Community Church in Carrollton.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Cross Points Community Church. Dr. Rhett G. Payne will officiate. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Points Community Church, Building Fund in memory of Richard Coleman, 2408 E. Trinity Mills Road, Suite 112, Carrollton, Texas 75006.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Coleman of Denton; three sons, Brett Coleman of Denton, Bruce Coleman of Irving, and Brian Coleman of Carrollton; one brother, Donald Coleman of Fort Myers, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

W.C. 'Dub' Mask Jr.

W.C. "Dub" Mask Jr., 79, of Denton died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Denton.

He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Perrin. On April 15, 1977, he married Maxine McDonald in Durant, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Mask was retired from sales and service in the auto industry.

He was a member of Cooper Creek Baptist Church.

A service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today, Monday, May 7, in the chapel of Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. The Rev. Bobby Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in East Bridgeport Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be G.B. Funk, Chris Funk, Bob Carpenter, Jessie Paul Carpenter, Butch Baker and Robert Meek.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; one son, Wayne Mask of Bridgeport; one stepson, Stan McCuistion of Royce City; one stepdaughter; Janice Ingrum of Atoka, Okla.; one sister, Geneva Middleton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Julia Biggerstaff

Houston - Julia Ruth Biggerstaff, 92, of Houston died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 24, 1908, in Batson to W.C. and Julia Ruth (Springer) Turnbow. She married Charles Frederick Biggerstaff. He is deceased.

Mrs. Biggerstaff was a rancher and a homemaker.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Julia Ruth Steinhagan of Houston; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Agnes V. Bonk

Agnes V. Bonk (nee Regnier) of Denton went to be with her Lord on May 4, 2001.

She was born on April 9, 1914, in Ghent, Minn, daughter of the late Maude and Phil Regnier. She taught in one room schools in rural Minnesota for 10 years prior to her marriage, During World War II, she worked in a War Ration Office. She and her family moved to Texas in 1955. After rearing her children, she returned to teaching as a remedial reading teacher in Denton public schools for 11 years. In her retirement years she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, and traveling and visiting her grandchildren. She received her bachelor's of science degree in fashion design and textiles from Texas Woman's University. Her artistic talents were demonstrated in her clothing design, construction and in many works of art in different media. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the Shakespeare Club, the University of North Texas Faculty Wives Club, the TWU Alumnae Association, and Denton Area Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her beloved and devoted husband of 59 years, Edward C. Bonk; her loving children, Suzanne (James) Hedstrom of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Thomas Bonk of San Francisco, Calif.; her grandchildren, Steven, Cara and David Hedstrom of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Tanner and Jordan Bonk of Los Angeles, Calif.; her brothers and sisters, Evelyn Sanders of Worthington, Minn., Harold (Joan) Regnier of Rochester, Minn., Rita (Myron) Banks of Ghent, Minn., and Gilbert (Evelyn) Regnier of Englewood, Fla. She also leaves behind her generous and loyal friend, Millie Jeska of Denton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Donald Regnier, Edward Regnier and Frances Regnier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Monsignor Charles King officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

There will be a Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Visitation will follow the Rosary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School, 1215 N. Elm Street, Denton, Texas 76201.

Pallbearers will be John Curry, James Hedstrom, Steven Hedstrom, James O'Flaherty, Joe Pelzel and Ray Twehous.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus, Denton Council.

Clara Schoepner

Clara Schoepner of Pilot Point, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Kern Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Point. She was born on March 26, 1921, in Pilot Point, to John and Mary Schoepner. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Parish. In 1942, she moved to Dallas and worked at Colbert's until her retirement in 1974. At that time, she returned to Pilot Point where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence J. Schoepner of La Feria, Texas, and her sisters, Minnie Schon and Laura Schon of Pilot Point and Carolina Wiesman of Fort Worth. She is survived by her brother, Raymond C. (Loretta) Schoepner of La Feria, Texas. She is also survived by her nephews, Leon Schon of Pilot Point, Harold Schon of Aubrey and Jim Schoepner of Harlingen; and her nieces, Mary Lou Dankesreiter, Clara Ann Schon, Carolyn Huschke, all of Pilot Point, Geraldine Nuckels of Richardson, Gaylyn Fagan of North Richland Hills, Mary Lorae Schoepner and Kathy Malone of Harlingen. Also surviving are numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are James Huschke, Carolyn Huschke, Walt Nuckels, Harold Schon and Leon Schon.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, at the Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Pilot Point with the Rev. Don Brennan, O.S.A., officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Thomas Catholic Parish or charity of your choice.

Billie Bennett

Gunter -Billie Joe Bennett, 78, of Gunter, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Wilson N Jones Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Gunter, to Arthur and Mary Isabelle Fouts Bennett. During World War II he was in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Bennett was a retired automobile and truck mechanic.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gunter.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the First Baptist Church in Gunter. Danny Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Gunter Cemetery.

The family will be at Flesher Funeral Home in Van Alstyne from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 8, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Bennett of Gunter; one daughter, Mary Etta Kolb of Gunter; two sons, Billie Bennett and Tommy Joe Bennett, both of Gunter; one sister, Ledina Penner of Denton; one brother, Ike Bennett of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Ericka Pinkston

Ericka Elizabeth Pinkston, 30, of Denton, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Medical City Hospital in Dallas.

Hazel Simmons

Euless - Hazel Ardella Simmons, 83, of Euless, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Euless.

She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Bridgeport.

She was a retired teacher's aid.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Bethel Cemetery in Wise County.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Simmons of North Richland Hills and Francine Holberg of Dallas; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Lester Singleton

Texarkana - Lester J. Singleton, 91, formerly of Denton, died Monday, May 7, 2001, in Texarkana.

Mulkey-Mason and Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton.

Hope Wakefield

Hope Eileen Wakefield, 40, of Denton, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Cottonwood Manor.

She was born April 20, 1961, in Lockney. She graduated from Floydada High School. On Jan. 12, 1985, she married Mike Wakefield in Slaton.

Mrs. Wakefield worked for H.E.A. Management.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in Floydada Cemetery, Floydada.

Survivors include her husband of Denton; her father, Kenneth Robertson of Baytown; her mother and step-father, Rue Nita and Jimmy Cole of Cleveland; one step-daughter, Jennifer Wakefield of Germany; one son, Cody Wakefield of Denton; one step-son, Andrew Wakefield of Lubbock; one sister, Holly Tierce of Tyler; and two brothers, Haney Robertson of Alvin and Heath Robertson of Dayton.

Cordelia Markham

Bridgeport - Cordelia Elizabeth Markham, 78, of Bridgeport, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her residence.

She was born July 30, 1922, in Sanger. On Dec. 24, 1945, she married Roy Holman Markham.

Mrs. Markham was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Denton.

The graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in Sanger Cemetery in Sanger. Bill Dye will officiate.

Survivors include two sisters, Lorene Howard of White Settlement and Alta Thompson of Altus, Okla. Her husband, Roy Markham, is deceased.

Jimmie Matthews Sr.

Jimmie Luther Matthews Sr., 69, of Denton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born May 6, 1932, in McKinney to James and Catherine Applebe Matthews.

Mr. Matthews served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was the owner of Triangle Electric.

He was a member and board member emeritus of the First Church of the Nazarene.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at the First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Bernie Burnside and Aaron Matthews will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Selby, Kenneth Copley, Lance Holloway, Benji Burnside, Josh Hanby and Douglas Eason.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Matthews of Denton; two daughters, Sandra Chapman and Lisa Akin, both of Denton; three sons, Jimmy, Alford and Christopher Matthews, all of Denton; three sisters, Alva Sanderson of Tyler, Nelda Adamson of Milford and Ruby Creed of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren. One sister, Betty Autrey, is deceased.
