Raymond Lange

Rhome - Raymond Harold Lange, 77, of Rhome died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in Rhome.

He was born July 23, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn. In 1992 he married Donna Madden in Jefferson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Lange was a real estate appraiser and financier.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home of Decatur.

Survivors include one son, David Lange of Charlotte, N.C.; one step-son, Brian Presley of Floral, Ark.; one daughter, Karen King of Alexander, Va.; and two grandchildren.

William L. Lee, Sr.

Terrell - William Lafayette Lee Sr., 84, of Terrell, died Friday, May 11, 2001.

He was born April 24, 1917, in Brownwood to Franklin Earl and Nancy Martin Lee. In 1952 he married Loretta Louise Byrd.

Mr. Lee was employed by Walker Construction in Grapevine for 30 years as a carpenter.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, in the chapel of Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell with the Rev. Paul Sackett officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Flower Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, Wesley Lee of Corpus Christi, Charles Lee of Denton, and Dan Lee of Terrell. His wife, Loretta; daughter, Nancy Lee; and son, Bill Lee, are deceased.

Gertrude M. Tull

Pilot Point - Gertrude M. Tull, 75, of Pilot Point, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001.

She was born April 14, 1926, in Shawnee, Okla., to Ernest Taylor and Lois Verna (Ragsdale) Mauldin. She married James E. "Jimmy" Dunn who passed away in 1976. She later married Gene Tull of Shawnee, Okla.

She lived in Shawnee, Okla., most of her life.

Mrs. Tull worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. during WWII. She later worked at Tinker Air Force Base as an airplane technician from 1966 until late 1979.

Gertrude was a longtime member of East Main Street Church of Christ and Central Church of Christ in Shawnee. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. Don Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, Northeast Atlanta, Ga. 30329 or Vitas Health Care, 400 South Carroll Boulevard, Suite 2000, Denton, Texas 76201.

Survivors include one daughter, Debra Soules of Valley View; one sister, Shirley Redikopp, of Shawnee, Okla.; and one grandson. One sister, Bonita Ernistine Taber and one grandson, James Bryan Madden, are deceased.

Cameron D. Williams

Bridgeport - Cameron Dakotah Williams, 10, of Bridgeport, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Wise Regional Health Systems.

He was born Aug. 3, 1990, in Graham to Beverly Williams and John Darrell Williams.

The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Thomas Cemetery in Wise county with Lee Roy Jackson officiating. Coker Funeral Home in Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his father, John Darrell Williams of Waco; his mother and stepfather, Beverly Williams and John Wilson Little of Fort Worth; one brother, Christopher Brown of Florida; two sisters, Morgan Foreman of Fort Worth and Elizabeth Randolph of Kansas; his grandparents, Jackie and Janice Phillips of Bridgeport, John and Linda Williams of Graham, and Belva Little of Fort Worth; and his great-grandmother, Ruth Barnett of Fort Worth.

Albert Espy

Alvord - Albert Ernest Lee Espy, 50, of Alvord died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 2, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He married Marcella Mae George in Minette, Ala., on Dec. 14, 1976.

Mr. Espy was a Vietnam veteran.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alvord.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, at First Baptist Church in Alvord. Bill Cleveland will officiate. Coker Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Marcie of Alvord; two sons, Tony Bruce Espy and Stanton Edward Espy, both of Tennessee; one daughter, Lisa Michelle Espy, also of Tennessee; and one sister, Sarah Elizabeth Nix of Georgia.

Otis McDowell

Collinsville - Otis R. McDowell, 81, of Collinsville died Monday, May 7, 2001, in Sherman.

He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Clayton, Okla., to Jake and Willa May Jones McDowell.

Mr. McDowell was a farmer and rancher, and he served 4“ years in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was Baptist.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the Community Cemetery of Pilot Point. The Rev. Luther Slay will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty McMorrow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lawson McDowell.

Winford Pearson

Winford Wayne Pearson, 61, of Denton died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Veteran's Hospital in Dallas.

He was born May 22, 1939, in Blum to John and Stella Mae Tate Pearson.

He was a graduate of Denton High School, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietname War. Mr. Pearson was a retired construction worker.

A graveside service will be held at noon today, May 11, at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. The Rev. John Stout will officiate. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Survivors include one son, Alan Wayne Pearson of Galveston; two sisters, Betty Hilliard and Cleo Bishop, both of Denton; and one brother, Bobby Pearson of Denton.

Lizzie Shelton

Lizzie Shelton, 89, of Denton died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Thelma Spratt

Sanger - Thelma Lee Spratt, 90, of Sanger died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at her home.

She was born March 23, 1911, in Sanger. She married Archie Spratt in Sanger on Nov. 3, 1935. He died Sept. 14, 1994.

Mrs. Sragg was a homemaker.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Sanger Cemetery. Steve Smith will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 11, at Coker Funeral Home in Sanger.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Spratt of Sanger and Giles M. Spratt of Richardson; one daughter, Margaret Janice S. Griffin of North Pole, Alaska; one sister, Jude Knowles of Denton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

"Queen" Berwald

Victorine Laurel "Queen" Cherney Berwald died May 9, 2001, in Napa, Calif. She was the widow of Dr. Herbert T. Berwald Sr.

Mrs. Berwald was born July 27, 1909, in Janesville, Iowa, to Emil J. and Arley Helm Cherney but grew up in Waterloo. She was a graduate nurse of George Washington University. On Aug. 9, 1930, Victorine married Dr. Berwald in Alexandria, Va. Dr. Berwald died Oct. 10, 1997.

Her early married life was spent in Washington, D.C., Virginia, Florida and Michigan due to Dr. Berwald's military surgeon career and WWII. In the early 1950's the Berwalds moved to San Francisco and then to Napa in the late 1950's.

Queen Berwald was a brilliant, witty, multi-talented individual who generously shared her skills with church and community wherever she lived until age and poor health slowed her down. She was an avid reader, an adventurous traveler, and enjoyed great music and the theater. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. In her younger years, she was a fine actress, good singer and excellent horseback rider. For many years her favorite hobby was genealogy. Queen was a devout student of the Bible. Recently, in spite of failing eyesight, she took up painting. Queen was a person who sparkled when confronting new challenges and endeavors, and always was successful until her final illness.

Queen was a member of the Christian Biblical Church of God and the Napa Valley Genealogical Society.

Victorine is survived by her daughter, Arley Hulstrand of Denton; her son, Col. Ted Berwald, USMC ret. of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Richard Cherney of Battle Creek, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private at Tulocay Cemetery under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service. There will be a remembrance program at the Meadows Retirement Center in Napa, Calif., time and date to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Meadows Foundation, 1800 Atrium Parkway, Napa, Calif., 94559, or to a favorite charity.

Roy E. Barnes

Justin - Roy E. Barnes, 84, of Justin, formerly of Stewart, Tenn., died Saturday, May 19, 2001. He was born Sept. 4, 1916.

Mr. Barnes willed his body to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Cane Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15186, Austin, Texas 78761; or the Cane Creek Cemetery Fund, 280 Lakeview Circle, Tennessee Ridge, Tenn. 37178.

Survivors include his wife, Velma A. Barnes of Justin; one son, Melvin Barnes; one daughter, Barbara Perry; one brother, Loyd Barnes of Leroy, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Folks of Erin, Tenn., and Jone Perry of Tennessee Ridge; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

William Green

Fort Worth - William Jefferson Green, 60, of Fort Worth, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Fort Worth.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in Aurora Cemetery. Coker Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Perry Green of Canyon City, Calif., and Timmy Green of Beaumont; one daughter, Teresa Ann Baker of Haslet; two sisters, Era Mae Carroll of Granbury and Patricia Ann O'Shields of Veal Station; one brother, Tommy James Green; and five grandchildren.

Ernest Matustik

Waco - Ernest E. Matustik, 85, of Waco, died Sunday, May 20, 2001.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at St. Louis Catholic Church of Waco. Connally Compton Funeral Home of Waco is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or tot he St. Louis Catholic Church of Waco.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Matustik of Waco; one son, David Matustik of Austin; three daughters, Mary Ann Sydow of Waco, Ernestine Dole of Newport News, Va., and Evelyn McMillen of Denton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Leta Nell McNabb

Oklahoma City - Leta Nell McNabb, 64, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Monday, April 30, 2001.

She was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Mahoney, to the Rev. Vernon and Ora (Lucas) Voss. On Feb. 18, 1956, she married Claude E. McNabb in Guthrie, Okla.

She was a member of the South Lee United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

Services were held Thursday, May 3, 2001, at South Lee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steven Byrd and Chaplain Norman Miller officiated. Burial was was in Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Okla. Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary were in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Rick Matthews, Bill Pruegert, Bob Lashlee, Ron Greene, Jim Dodrill and Ike Dodrill.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Research Assoc., Memorial and Honor Donations, P.O. Box 2680, N. Canton, Ohio 44720, or South Lee United Methodist Church, 601 S.W. 36th St., Oklahoma City, Okla. 73109.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, LaLain Younkins of Norman, Okla., and LaDonna Hollcroft of MacUngie, Pa.; her mother, Ora Voss Durkee of Denton; and four grandchildren. Her father, and one daughter, LaReaca McNabb, are deceased.
