Harold Auvenshine

Decatur - Harold Ambrose Auvenshine, 77, of Decatur died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Decatur.

He was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Comanche. On June 16, 1947, he married Alsa Jean Cox in Decatur. During World War II he was in the Army Air Corps. He attended Tarleton State University for two years.

Mr. Auvenshine was a retired engineering technician for TxDOT. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, a coach for the Little League and a Boy Scouts scoutmaster.

He was Methodist.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home in Decatur. Gentry Castleman will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Decatur.

The family will be at the funeral home Thursday, May 31, for visitation.

Pallbearers will be Ruben Pinkerton, Jack Leake, Willie Perkins, Rodney Miller, Dennis Hudson, Pete Reeves and Geary Washburn.

Survivors include his wife of Decatur; one daughter, Nancy A. Nixon of Sells, Ariz.; one sister, Dorothy Bell of Hereford; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His parents, and one brother, Richard Burt Auvenshine, are deceased.

Jewell Cummings

Whitesboro - Jewell L. Cummings, 86, of Whitesboro, formerly of Tioga, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.

Thomas James McKee, 58, of Denton died Wednesday, May 31, 2001, at his home.

Hulda Rosamond

Hulda Augusta Rosamond, 96, of Denton died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 29, 1904, in Cool to Charles and Augusta Leck.

Ms. Rosamond was a short-order cook.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, in Holder's Chapel Cemetery in Cool. John Rasbary will officiate.

The family will be at Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, for visitation.

Survivors include one daughter, Anita McGee of Oakdale, La.; one son, J.R. Rosamond of Mineral Wells; one sister, Leona Williams of Morgan; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Madge Smedley

Hickory Creek - Madge Smedley, 79, of Hickory Creek died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at her home.

Stanley E. Stevens

Pilot Point - Stanley Edward Stevens Sr., 83, of Pilot Point died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Careage Place Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Thompson Cemetery in Copeville. Cloyce Purcell will officiate.

The family will be at Huff/Slay Funeral Home of Pilot Point from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, for visitation.

He was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Dallas, to Charles and Alma Georgia Neel Stevens. On March 28, 1943, he married Josephine Fenley in Dallas. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Stevens was a retired welder for Trinity Industries in Denton. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was Methodist.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilot Point Independent School District Library Fund or Careage Place Nursing Home of Pilot Point.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Stevens of Pilot Point; one son, Stanley Edward Stevens, Jr. of Arlington, Tenn.; one daughter, Pauline Marcelle Moore of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Billy Eugene Stevens of Denison; four grandchildren; and extended family, Cloyce, Sharon, Chad, Brian and Misty Purcell.

Mary Frances Corley

Decatur - Mary Frances Corley, 73, of Corsicana, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Corsicana.

She was born Feb. 26, 1928 in Burkburnett, to James Franklin and Mary Rigney Kelley. Mrs. Corley was a retired teacher.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, June 11, 2001, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Jimmy Finley will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Survivors include two stepsons, Bob and Kathryn Corley of Corsicana and David and Mary Corley of Fort Worth; one sister, Betty Kelley Haralson of Longview; one brother and sister-in-law, J. Frank and Sandy Kelley of Crosby; two nephews and wives, J. Ben and Rhonda Haralson of Denton and W. Kelley and Sheila Haralson of Kilgore; five great-nieces and nephews, Haley and Beau Haralson of Denton, and Jonathan, Heather and Natalie Haralson of Kilgore. Her husband, John R. Corley, is deceased.

Patsy Mandell

Patsy Brack Mandell, 81, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at the Vintage Retirement Home.

She was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Denison to Pat Brack and Delah McGehee. On Aug. 3, 1963, she married Dr. Richard Mandell. He died June 4, 1966.

Mrs. Mandell attended high school in Denison and later received her bachelor's and masters's degrees from North Texas State College (now UNT). She taught at Denison High School, the North Texas Lab School in Denton, and at Congress Junior High in Denton.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, in the chapel of Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Crouch will officiate. She will be cremated and her ashes buried in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.

Nellie Blizzard

Sanger - Nellie Maude Blizzard, 101, of Sanger died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her home.

She was born Jan. 17, 1900, in Maryland.

Ms. Blizzard was a cashier for a vending company.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Maryland.

Survivors include two sons, Clarence Blizzard of Washington, D.C., and Darrell Blizzard of Maryland; one daughter, Dorothy Scott of Oxnard, Calif.; one sister, Helen Olinger of Virginia; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-greatchildren.

Opal Dooley

Delmar, Del. - Opal Irene Meek Morris Dooley, 88, of Delmar, Del., formerly of Justin, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001.

She was born March 11, 1913, in Dunlap to James Luther and Sarah Myrtle Martin Meek.

Mrs. Dooley was a lifetime member of the Justin Baptist Church.

She was a seamstress, homemaker and caregiver.

The graveside service will be Tuesday, June 12, at the Justin Cemetery. Derek Draper and James Vinzant will officiate. Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Gerald Morris of Salisbury, Md; one daughter, Joan Henderson of Justin; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Three brothers, four sisters, one grandson and her husband, Joe Bailey Morris, are deceased.

Louise Maughan

Fort Worth - Louise Maughan, 71, of Fort Worth, died Thursday, June 7, in Corpus Christi.

She was born April 20, 1930, in Whitesboro to C.C. Russom and Ada Bell Farr Russom. On Aug. 16, 1952, she married Hershel Eugene Maughan in Ardmore, Okla.

Mrs. Maughan attended Whitesboro schools.

She was a member of the Cooper Creek Baptist Church in Denton and was a member of the Eastern Star.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery .

Pallbearers will be A.L. Russom, Charlie Russom, Miles Bowman, Eric White, Max Maughan, Leonard Maughan and O.C. Hammons.

The family will be at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. today,Sunday, June 10, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband of Fort Worth; two daughters, Ann Lewelling of Emory and Brenda Maughan of Arlington; one stepdaughter, Terry Allen of Cleburne; one son, Kelly Maughan of Fort Worth; one stepson, Danny Maughan of Fort Worth; one sister, Mardelle Bean of Gainesville; three grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. One son, Mike Maughan, two sisters, Margaret Ferguson and Dorothy Nichols, and one brother, Alvis Russom, are deceased.

Clara Trail

Decatur - Clara Bell Trail, 79, of Decatur died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Denton.

Mrs. Trail was a homemaker.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 11, at the Immanuel Baptist Church. Lee Roy Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Alvey, Terry Hines, Dewayne McCrary, Steve McCrary, Jerry McGar, Mike McGar and Tim McGar.

Visitation will be today, Sunday, June 10, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Trail of Decatur; two daughters, Barbara Jeanette Davis of Nocona and Patricia Ann Henery of New Braunfels; two sons, Frank Trail of Raunaway Bay and Sammy Trail of New Braunfels; three sisters, Dorothy Alvey of Denton, Laverne McCrary of Decatur, and Theo Ballard of Frisco; one brother, Wayne McGar of Decatur; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Opal Voss

Sanger - Opal Geneva Shrum Voss, 79, of Sanger died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 30, 1921, in Illinois Bend to Joseph H. Shrum and Mary Elizabeth Branch Shrum. On June 20, 1961, she married Turner Voss in Denton County.

Mrs. Voss was a homemaker and had lived in Sanger since 1936.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Church of Christ in Saint Jo. Chester Cullum and C. E. "Sonny" Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Hardy Cemetery in Hardy. McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Massengale, Lonny Massengale, Jon Richardson, Billy Joe Russell, Steve Pruett and Mike Shrum.

Survivors include her husband of Sanger; one daughter, Geneva Ann Massengale of Forestburg; four sisters, Connie Welch of Oregon, Sylvia Bowles of Nocona, Laveda Knowles of Cleburne, and Bertha Jo Montgomery of Granbury; two brothers, Otis Shrum of Cleburne and James Shrum of Nocona; seven grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. One son, John Edward Gray, and one brother, Jack Shrum, are deceased.

Walter Johnson Jr.

Sanger - Walter Johnson Jr., 58, of Sanger died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Denton.

He was born May 5, 1943, in Sanger to Johnnie Mae Mann and Eli Walter Johnson Sr.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Sanger.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Galilee Baptist Church. The Rev. Reginald Logan will officiate. Burial will be in Sanger Cemetery.

The family will be at Peoples Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 10, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Johnson of Sanger; two sons, Dennis C. and David Johnson, both of Sanger; six brothers, Curtis Johnson of Houston, F.L. and Greg Johnson of California, Jerry Johnson of Gainesville, Steve Johnson of Colorado, and John C. Johnson of Mesquite; one sister, Betty Coleman of Casper, Wyo.; and three grandchildren.

Earl Spencer

Decatur - Earl C. "Rusty" Spencer, 80, of Decatur died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Decatur Convalescent Center.

He was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Decatur.

Mr. Spencer was a veteran and had worked as a lineman for Wise Electric Coop.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Oaklawn Cemetery. Jake Gatewood will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Florene Spencer; three daughters, Adenia Spencer of Desoto, and Rebecca Black and Judy Sampler, both of Decatur; one sister, Lilly Faye Mock of Ordway, Colo.; one brother, Bobby Sam Spencer of Azle; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
