Betty Trapp

Betty Trapp, 55, of Denton died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 28, 1946, in Emory. On May 6, 1970, she married Corbit Trapp in Irving.

Mrs. Trapp worked at the Denton State School.

She was a member of Lighthouse Pentacostal Church in Lewisville.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Lewisville. The Reverends W.F. Starnes and Roy Coble will officiate. Interment will follow in Old Hall Cemetery.

The family will be at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, Cora Williams of Houston; three daughters, Jena Elbert of Fort Worth, Barbara Coble of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and Resha Trapp of Denton; one brother, Douglas Williams of Lewisville; and four grandchildren.

Fay Worrall

Fay Estella Avera Worrall, 71, of Denton died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine.

She was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Col. Wray Bertarnd Avera and Julia Garland Jeffcoat Avera. On April 15, 1949, she married Alexander Hunter Worrall Jr. at Fort William McKinley, Manila, Phillipines. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1996.

Mrs. Worrall was employed by Voertman's and worked in the textbook department before her retirement.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the St. David's Episcopal Church. Father Roy Baines will officiate. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the St. David's Memorial Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Allelia Alice Worrall Scott of Bedford; one son, Roy Cameron Worrall of Luling, La.; one sister, Alice Hudson of Denton; and six grandchildren. One son, Alexander Hunter Worrall III and one sister, Garland Jones, preceded her in death.

Mary Benskin

Mary Moss Benskin, 67, of Denton died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Conroe to Ray and Lorena Eva Kemp Moss. She attended Denton High School and the University of North Texas. In 1955 she married Roy V. Benskin in Denton. He preceded her in death in 1988.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in Roselawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Steve Nilmeier will officiate. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the Downtowner on the square following the graveside service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa Benskin of Seattle, Wash., and Linda Benskin of Minneapolis, Minn.; one son, Steve Benskin of Dallas; two sisters, Lorena Daukas of Newport Beach, Calif., and Pat Vaughan of Garland; and one brother, Ray Moss of Gainesville.

Perlie Langley

Perlie Rue Langley, 93, of Denton died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, at her residence.

She was born May 9, 1908, in Potter, Ark., to Thomas William and Coy E. Lee (Williams) Redding. On Jan. 16, 1925, she married Levi Langley in Mena, Ark. He preceded her in death Aug. 6, 1982.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Fannin Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bonham. Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home of Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include nine children, Inez Nichols, Alvie Langley, Alfred Langley, Vera Mayfield, Syble Clardy, Virginia Jordan, Ruthann Pearce, Kathy Langley and Linda Benton; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruby McCartney-Roberson

Ruby Lee McCartney-Roberson, 78, of Denton died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 12, 1923, in Graham to Ray Lee Elliott and Serena Grimes Elliott. Her husband, H.E. McCartney, preceded her in death in 1993. She married Doyle Roberson on Feb. 15, 1997.

Mrs. McCartney-Roberson attended Young County schools.

She attended the First Baptist Church of Denton and was active in the Earlybirds Sunday School Class and the Levelland Rebekka's Lodge.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the Oakgrove Cemetery in Graham. The Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 9, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle Roberson of Denton; one daughter, Debra Kay Crenshaw of Sanger; two grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and two great-grandchildren. One sister, Irene Westerman, and two brothers, G.B. Elliott and Elick Wright, preceded her in death.

Dorothy McCrary

Highland Village - Dorothy Chew McCrary, 57, of Highland Village died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Denton.

She was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Boyle, Miss., to Dorothy M. Rogers and Mark Chew Sr. On Nov. 3, 1984, she married Rufus McCrary Jr. in Lewisville.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Denton. The Rev. M.R. Chew Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at Peoples Funeral Home in Denton from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband of Highland Village; her mother of Lewisville; five sons, Vinton D. Cummings of Fort Worth, Vermaine D. Howard of Dallas, Kevin McCrary of Daytona, Fla., Cedric McCrary of Atlanta, Ga., and Marcus McCrary of High Point, N.C.; three daughters, Verna D. Thompson of Lewisville, Valentina D. Crick of Corinth, and Verena D. Garner of Lewisville; five brothers, the Rev. Mark R. Chew Jr. of Denton, Bill H. Chew of Elizabeth, N.J., Artis W. Chew of Little Rock, Ark., Fredrick M. Chew Sr. of Mesquite, and Merlin D. Chew of Los Angeles, Calif.; five sisters, Mary A. Chew and Shirley M. Chew, both of Grand Prairie, Jacqueline K. Whitlock of Olive Branch, Miss., Jasimine Williams of Longview, and Barbara K. Redmon of Lewisville; 30 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

David Morris

Pilot Point - David Wayne Morris, 43, of Pilot Point died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the CareAge Place Nursing Home in Pilot Point.

He was born Feb. 13, 1958, to David and Margaret (Whipple) Morris in Panama City, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Morris was a longhaul truck driver.

He was Methodist.

No services are planned at this time. Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home of Denton is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Joe McLung of Eustace; three brothers, Terry Morris of Flint, Mich., Micheal Morris of Eustace, and Robert Morris of Flint, Mich.; and one sister, Roberta Kopko of Chapel Hill, Tenn.

Billy Armstrong

Billy Evelyn Armstrong died as she did most things, gently, on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 at home surrounded by her family. Billy (named after a favorite nephew) was born to Charles Yancy Smith and Audrey Betha Everett on Aug. 12, 1921 in Sinton. She grew up among the cotton fields of Texas where her father was a cotton grader. She attended North Texas State College and her parents operated Smith Drug Store on the square. She met and married Kenneth Bishop Rutledge, who was killed in action while piloting his B-17 Bomber over Germany. While teaching English at Grapevine High School, she married Andrew Jackson Armstrong and restarted a love affair that began when he used to do her math homework in the tenth grade. Their adventure together spanned fifty years, most states and many countries where Colonel Armstrong was a regular Army officer. They retired at last to Lewisville where Colonel Armstrong taught mathmatics at Lewisville High School.

Billy is survived by her sons, Kenneth Evans Rutledge and Marc Andrew Armstrong; three grandchildren, Kenneth Andrew Rutledge, Jane Lynette Rutledge Zilles and Charles Yancy Rutledge; three great-grandchildren, Evan Ramon Castillo Rutledge, Kyle Zilles and Kelly Zilles. She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter, Cora Jo Rutledge.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville. Interment will be at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Mary Dye

Mary Dye, 74, died Aug. 5, 2001. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sara Jones. She was born May 3, 1927, in England. She leaves behind three daughters, Caroline Holcomb and her husband Greg of Ponder, Deborah Carter of Lake Dallas and Sheila Robertson and her husband Elvis of Lake Dallas; four grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Carrie Royal, Christopher Robertson, John Carter and Joshua Holcomb; one great-grandchild, Jacob Royal; her sister, Margaret Dixon and husband Dick of Lancaster, England; and many cousins and loving friends in England.

Mrs. Dye was active in the Lake Cities Library as well as being on the board of Friends of the Library. She was also a volunteer at Aletha's Country Store in the Denton Senior Center. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

A memorial service will be held at the Lake Cities Community Center at 302 South Shady Shores Road in Lake Dallas on Sunday, Aug. 12, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. The family wishes that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lake Cities Library or any asthma research organization.

Billy Birk

Flower Mound - Billy Joe Birk, 61, of Flower Mound died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at his residence.

He was born May 19, 1940, in Huntingburg, Ind., to Bertie William and Ruby May Smith Birk. On March 10, 1964, he married Anita Carol Kost in Jasper, Ind.

Mr. Birk was the body shop custodian for James Wood Auto Park Inc.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton. The Rev. John Stout will officiate.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, Aug. 10, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife of Flower Mound; three sons, James A. Birk of Haslet, Michael R. Birk of Denton and Raymond L. Birk of Ponder; one brother, Larry Birk of Hurst; and two grandchildren.

Russell Bland

Justin - Russell Bland of Aubrey died today, Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at his home.

Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey.

Mildred McMurtry

Justin - Mildred McMurtry,81, of Justin died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Goen-Hudgens Funeral Chapel in Justin.

Bertha Perkins

Decatur - Bertha Delight Perkins, 102, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Decatur.

She was born Dec. 11, 1898, in Cottonwood Community, Wise County.

Ms. Perkins was a caregiver.

The graveside service was held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Aug. 10, in Cottonwood Cemetery. George Wilmont officiated. Coker Funeral Home in Decatur was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Albert Small

Decatur - Albert Henry Small, 85, of Decatur died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Grand Prairie. On June 22, 1940, he married Dorotha McKeever in Irving.

Mr. Small was a retired machinist with Menasco Aerosystems Division and served as a merchant marine in WWII.

He was a member of the Decatur Church of Christ.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at the Decatur Church of Christ. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Irving. Robert Isham and John Scott will officiate.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife of Decatur; two sons, George Small of Marietta, Ga., and Curtis Small of Decatur; three daughters, Audrey Dyer of Decatur, Alma Jean Fenton of Murchison, and Cindy Boyd of Arlington; two brothers, Vernon Small of Canton and James Small of Irving; one sister, Mary Jo Whatley of Wichita Falls; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
