Alma Irene Swafford

Ponder – Alma Irene Moncrief Swafford, 85, of Ponder died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at the Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 21, 1916, in Drop, to Andrew Luther and Viva Leora Burch Moncrief. On July 15, 1933, she married Hugh Denton Swafford in Justin. Mr. Swafford died on May 3, 1978.

Mrs. Swafford attended Ponder High School and the College of Industrial Arts, now known as Texas Woman’s University. She was a cashier for Piggly Wiggly in Denton, a Democratic election judge, and an adult Sunday school teacher and substitute piano player at the Ponder United Methodist Church. She was also a Methodist Youth Fellowship sponsor and served on various church boards.

Mrs. Swafford was a member of the Ponder United Methodist Church.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Ponder Methodist Church. Chester Cullum and Dr. Tom Brooks will officiate. Burial will be at the Eakins Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Hugh Tidwell, Larry Dan Tidwell, Kelly Wayne Swafford, Lee Wayne Swafford, Robert Glen Swafford and Robert Denton Polley.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Ponder Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Eakins Cemetery Association.

Survivors include two sons, Don Swafford of Ponder and Wayne Burch Swafford of Caddo Mills; four daughters, Daisy Jo Ella Haley of Corbin, Euelyn Rochelle Peters of Grapevine, Carolyn Ann Harrison of Ponder, and Peggy Sue Polley of Krum; one sister, Emma Mae Moncrief of Ponder; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson.

Jack Jackson

Gainesville – Jack Jackson, 90, of Gainesville died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Gainesville Convalescent Center.

He was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Belton, to W.T. "Dub" and Ema Jackson. On July 21, 1960, he married Willie Mae Clark in Ardmore, Okla.

Mr. Jackson raised quarter horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and worked with youth in the 4-H Club.

No services are planned at this time. Huff-Slay Funeral Home of Pilot Point is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of Gainesville; one stepdaughter, Shirley Clark Skaggs of Lake Kiowa; and three grandchildren.

Kindall Silvola

Paradise – Kindall Marie Silvola, 3, of Paradise, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in Decatur.

She was born Jan. 8, 1998, in Kansas City, Mo.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home in Decatur. Marcus Brecheen will officiate.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 12, for visitation.

Survivors include her mother, Lori Scott of Paradise; her father, Thomas Charles Silvola Jr. of Nevada, Mo.; three sisters, Rachill Linn Silvola of Paradise, and Lauren Ashlynn and Brooke Nicole Silvola of Nevada, Mo.; and her grandparents, Diane Scott and Vernon Bray, both of Liberal, Mo., and Walter and Joy Scott of Appleton City, Mo.

Donald G. Carney

Donald Glenn Carney, 75, of Denton, Texas, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center, after fighting a courageous battle with liver and colon cancer. He was born June 30, 1926, in McPher-son, Kan., to John and Lois Carney.

Don served in the U.S. Navy and was Boatman’s Mate on the U.S.S. Jerauld APA-174.

Don was a hospital administrator with Amer-ican Medical International and ran several hospitals. He ran Deaconess Hospital and Doctors Hospital, both in Oklahoma City, Okla., T.B. Sanitarium in Clinton, Okla., and Hope, Ark., and was a physicians recruiter in Denton, Texas.

Don moved to Denton, Texas, and married Mar-garet Hammock in 1990. They own and operate D.C. Carney Vending Services in Denton, Texas.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 12, for visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include one stepson, David Hammock and wife Amy of Dallas, Texas; one stepdaughter, Sharon Shepherd of Plano, Texas; one grandson, Ryan Shepherd of Plano; two sons, Rendy Carney of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tony Carney of Guthire, Okla.; three daughters, Dena Sue Jenson of Weatherford, Okla., Jan Thompson of Bethany, Okla., and Angie Carney of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Dale Carney of Beech Bluff, Tenn., and Larry Carney of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Kathleen McDonald of Fargo, N.D.; and six grandchildren.

Don was a wonderful father, stepfather, husband and a kind gentle person, and he will be missed by all of his friends and loved ones.

Dorothy Evelyn Fulp

Dorothy Evelyn Fulp, 79, of Denton died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born March 13, 1922, in Gainesville, Fla., to Charles and Iva Walters. On Aug. 5, 1940, she married Aubrey Willis Fulp in Gainesville, Fla.

Mrs. Fulp was a homemaker and worked in the administration department of a hospital in Gainesville, Fla., before her retirement.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Glenn Schliebner will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Aubrey Fulp of Denton; two sons, Keith Fulp of Austin and Bruce Fulp of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Pat Todd of Denton; two brothers, Darwin Walters and Charles "Bev" Walters, both of Florida.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Rosemary P. Wright

Rosemary P. Wright, 70, of Denton died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 25, 1930, in San Benito to Frank and Merle Edith Pierce.

Mrs. Wright was a member of the Girls Soccer Commission, business manager of Liz Gallego of Dance and originated the "Proud Crowd" of Denton High School Band Booster Club.

She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Kent Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Barnett, Melvin Hagen, Thomas Carmichael, Dennis Stephens, Nathan Stanley and Rick Smith.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society.

Survivors include her husband, Don Wright of Denton; two sons, Frank Wright and Steve Wright, both of Denton; one daughter, Susan Kathleen Wright of Denton; and one grandchild.

Lois M. Gober

Lois Marie Gober, 75, of Dallas, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Dallas.

She was born May 8, 1926, to Clifton and Allie Hamilton in Kaufman. She attended Kaufman public schools. On Aug. 21, 1948, she married Willie Ray Gober. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Gober was employed as a cosmetologist at Image Hair Designers until her health failed.

A service will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 13, at Elizabeth Chapel C.M.E. Church in Dallas. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Denton. Paradise Funeral Home of Dallas is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Jean Gober Hopkins; one brother, James W. Hamilton; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Jonnie Marie Couch

Tioga – Jonnie Marie Couch, 91, of Tioga died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Kern Manor Nursing Home in Pilot Point.

She was born July 9, 1910, in Edgewood, to John William and Mary Francis Nichols Couch.

Ms. Couch graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon in 1934. She taught school in Turkey, Texas, before moving to Tioga where she taught for many years.

She attended First Baptist Church in Tioga, and took care of its nursery.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at First Baptist Church in Tioga. Chaplain Winston Robertson will officiate.

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Oakhill Cemetery in Edgewood.

The family will be at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, for visitation.

Joyce Fay Johnson

Alvord – Joyce Fay Johnson, 81, of Alvord died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital.

She was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Bonita. On Sept. 21, 1938, she married James Clinton Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church of Alvord.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Alvord First Baptist Church. Bill Cleveland will officiate.Burial will be at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth.

Pallbearers will be Torrey Parkhurst, Derek Vollintine, Mark Davis, and Josh, Bill and Darrell Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Texas, 2201 S. FM51, Decatur, Texas 76234 or to Alvord First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Johnson of Alvord; one son, Gary Johnson of North Richland Hills; two daughters, Charlotte Parkhurst of Weatherford and Jeanette Vollintine of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Michael Boone

Mena, Ark. – Michael Brian Boone, 32, of Mena, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Mena Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 19, 1969, in Shreveport, La., to Charles Thomas Boone and Anita Love Byrd. On March 29, 1997, he married Laura Domke in LaBell, Fla.

Mr. Boone was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in Operation Desert Storm. He worked as an aircraft mechanic.

He was Baptist.

The service will be at 2 p.m. today,Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Hall Memorial Chapel in Mena, Ark. Brother. Art Darilek will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Boone of Mena; his parents, Charles T. Boone of Argyle and Anita Love Byrd of Keithville, La.; two sons, Mitchell and Billy Boone, both of Mena; three daughters, Kristy and Madison B. Boone, both of Mena, and Brittany M. Boone of Bartlett, Tenn.; one sister, Heather Vandiver of Shreveport, La.; his grandparents, William and Annie Laurie Boone of Houston and Wanda Love of Keithville, La.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Walter Love.

Ruth M. Marlatt

Ruth M. Marlatt died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Ruth was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Buffalo Springs, Texas, to Finis R. and Myrtle (Connelley) Wood. She married Donald M. Marlatt on Feb. 19, 1944, in Henrietta, Texas. She was a secretary for the Air Force ROTC at UNT and also worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. She was a charter member of Ann’s Haven Hospice Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Marlett of Denton, Texas, and granddaughter, Heather Marlett of Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (he died Feb. 21, 1994), her son, Don Marlett, Jr., and her grandson, Mark Marlatt.

The memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Jarrell Sharp in Cole Chapel of the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust St., Denton, Texas 76201; or Ann’s Haven Hospice, 216 W. Mulberry St., Denton, Texas 76201.

Mulkey Mason/Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jonnie Marie Couch
