Floyd E. Noles

Pilot Point – Floyd E. Noles, Jr., 51, of Pilot Point died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

He was born July 13, 1950, in Dallas, to Floyd, Sr. and Ova (Few) Noles.

Mr. Noles was a retired carpenter.

The service will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 20, at the chapel of Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home in Denton. The Rev. Tony Lillard will officiate.

Survivors include his mother, Ova Noles of Pilot Point; one son, Danny Hessel of Aubrey; one sister, Linda Juarez of Denton; and two grandchildren.

Harley L. Sanderson

Krum – Harley L. "Sandy" Sanderson, 76, of Krum died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in Drop, to Harley O. and Jimmie (Graham) Sanderson. In 1950, he married Mary Snellgrove in Sanger. She died in 1963. In 1964, he married Helen Kittley in Denton.

Mr. Sanderson was a self-employed realtor for 30 years.

He was a member of Krum Church of Christ.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Krum Church of Christ. Don Killough and Chester Cullum will officiate. Interment will follow at Justin Cemetery.

The family will be at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Krum Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Sanderson of Krum; three daughters, Debbie Jernigan of Krum, Ruth Hussein of Plano, and Nan Payne of Fayetteville, AR; one son, Buzz Sanderson of Krum; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Lee Bean.

William Earl Wright

Ponder – William Earl Wright, 94, of Ponder died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at his residence.

He was born June 10, 1907, in Berry, Ala., to Robert and Dona Wright. In 1939, he married Annie Ruth Yarbrough in Denton County. She preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1990.

Mr. Wright was a retired mechanic and farmer.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle.

Pallbearers will be Robert Wright, Jason Wright, Jeremy Wright, Will Wright, Brian Wright and Eric Bartel.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, for visitation.

Survivors include three sons, Davis Wright, Wayne Wright and Marvin Wright, all of Ponder; four sisters, Dorothy Whitley and Lucille Plunkett, both of Amarillo, Geraldine Wiggins of Lubbock and Vera Williams of Springfield, Mo.; four brothers, Edgar Wright and Andrew "Butch" Wright, both of Childress, Aubert Wright of Colorado Springs and Bob Wright of Austin; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Joan Coffey

Joan Bauer Coffey, 71, of Denton died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Denton.

She was born July 31, 1930, in Indiana.

Mrs. Coffey received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio.

She was a solid citizen and an experienced civic and community leader who maintained a high profile in the community. She was a liaison and spokesperson for a variety of organizations with a sincere dedication to the positive growth and balanced development of Denton. She served 15 years on the governing board of Denton Regional Medical Center, playing a key role in effecting positive change and in bringing congruity between the medical community and local citizenry. She participated in establishing the first Women’s Pavilion at the hospital and in the planning, purchasing and relocation of the entire facility.

Mrs. Coffey was a charter member of several organizations, helping initiate and expand the art and social facets of the community. She was an elementary school teacher for eight years and an instructor of Christian doctrine classes for eight years.

Additional community involvements include; charter member of Ann’s Haven Hospice; charter member and past president of Denton Benefit League; charter member and past board member of The Arts Guild; member and twice president of the Ariel Club of Denton; charter member of the Denton Festival Foundation; member and past board member of The Greater Denton Arts Council; member of the Federated Women’s Club; past board member of the First National Bank of Sanger; and a former member of the Bankers’ Wives Club.

She was also a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and St. Helena’s Circle of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker. She had a strong commitment to family values, was the wife of a respected businessman and mother of four sons and one daughter.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Mark Catholic Church. The Rev. Eugene Sweeney will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Coker Funeral Home in Sanger is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Denton Benefit League, P.O. Box 725, Denton, Texas 76202.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse A. Coffey Sr. of Denton; her son, Dr. Jesse Allen Coffey Jr. and daughter-in-law, Dr. Amy Coffey of Argyle; her son, David Coffey and daughter-in-law, Debra Coffey of Plano; her son, Stephen M. Coffey and daughter-in-law, Jannine Coffey of Corinth; her daughter, Carolyn Ryan and son-in-law, Michael Ryan of Hinsdale, Ill.; her son, John B. Coffey and daughter-in-law, Donna Coffey of Hinsdale, Ill.; her brother William J. Bauer and sister-in-law, Joan Bauer of Houston; and 13 grandchildren.

Lawrence Hesteande

Slidell – Lawrence Thomas Hesteande, 69, of Slidell died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at his residence.

He was born June 4, 1932, to John Mack Jones and Ethel Iona Durham Hesteande. On Aug. 11, 1973, he married Barbara Anderson in Denton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 1998.

Mr. Hesteande was retired from Tetra Pac of Denton where he was a machinist.

He was a member of the Slidell Baptist Church.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the Slidell Baptist Church. The Rev. David Bradshaw and the Rev. Eric Spano will officiate. Burial will be at the Slidell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jay Guthrie, Dan Hachtel, Calvin Blackburn, Bruce Hesteande, Abe Boyd, Jr. and Timmy Baker.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors today, Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. for visitation.

Survivors include six daughters, Amy Ree Adams and Jill Ann Richards of Slidell, Cathy Lynn Sides of Chico, Ruth Elice Swanson of Whitesboro, and Penny Jo Shurbet and Brenda Faye Shurbet of Bowie; two sons, John Douglas Hesteande of Slidell and Russell Dean Hesteande of Lake Worth; two sisters, Viola Loyd Blackburn and Ruby Jewel Baker of Denton; one brother, Edward Ray Hesteande of Jacksboro; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Iona Boyd and Opal Bell Hesteande.

Robert McSpadden

Robert H. "Bob" McSpadden, 89, of Denton died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Denton Good Samaritan Village.

He was born Oct. 7, 1911, in Denton, to Corry B. and Barbara Ewan McSpadden. He was a lifetime resident of Denton and graduated from Denton High School. On Dec. 31, 1940, he married Mary Patterson in Marietta, Okla.

In 1940, Mr. McSpadden began a career in retailing with the J.C. Penney Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1973. Then he worked in the funeral business and was associated with Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home until his retirement in 1992.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in the Sumrall Center of the Denton Bible Church. The Rev. Tom Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Greiner, Dana Pope, Jack Manes, Dan Heffley, Pat Colmenares and Don Colmenares.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Denton Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; and three sisters, Gladys McNeill and Ann Key, both of Denton, and Jerry Young of Nacogdoches.

Raymond Schneider

Raymond William Schneider, 78, of Denton died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Chicago to Stephen and Elsie (Borg) Schneider. He attended public schools and Northwestern University and Law School. On Feb. 15, 1944, he married Lois L. Nelson in Cook County, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Nov. 18, 1942, until Nov. 5, 1945.

Mr. Schneider was a retired attorney. He was a member of the Hi Noon Lions Club.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Bassett will officiate. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation after the service.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club Children’s Camp at Kerrville.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; one son, Raymond Scott Schneider of Oak Point; one sister, Doris Maier of Chargrin Falls, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Dorothy Scott, 86, of Denton died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

Aubrey – Stephen R. Ludlum, 78, of Aubrey, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at his residence.

Alice M. Reed

Nocona – Alice Marie Reed, 63, of Nocona died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Nocona General Hospital.

She was born June 6, 1938, in Grandfield, Okla., to Clarence and Zula (Duke) Calhoun. On June 6, 1956, she married Glen Elmo "Buddy" Reed. Mr. Reed died March 8, 2000.

Mrs. Reed retired after working 23 years in the kitchen of Nocona General Hospital.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Assembly of God Church in Nocona. Chuck Schobert, Clifford Allred and Edwin Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Montague Cemetery.

Scott Morris Funeral Home of Nocona is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Tim Reed, Brice Gibbs, Richard Beverage, Daron White, Kevin Ratliff and Brandon Ratliff.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna White of Gainesville, Sandy Trice of Denton, Patricia LaPointe of Muenster and Linda Lambert of Marietta, Okla.; one son, Michael Reed of Nocona; two sisters, Mildred Fritz of LaGrange and Kathy Davis of Frederick, Okla.; three brothers, Oscar Calhoun of Hollister, Okla., and Alfred and Donald Calhoun, both of Chattanooga, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Billie M. Hindman

Billie McReynolds Pierce Hindman of Denton died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at the Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village.

She was born in Denton and received her education from the Denton public schools, Texas Woman’s University and the University of North Texas. She married John N. Pierce in 1931. He died in 1957. To this union was born one daughter, Pat Pierce Raney.

Billie was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, where she served as church secretary from 1950 to 1966. In July of 1966 she married Lloyd S. Hindman. Mrs. Hindman was appointed as a missionary of the United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., in 1966. She and her husband served as missionaries to Bangkok, Thailand, from 1966 to 1969. Dr. Hindman preceded her in death in 1998.

Survivors include daughter Pat Raney of Denton; stepdaughter Carolyn Brown and her husband Tom of Bedford, Texas, Betsy Foster and her husband Rob of Forest Grove, Ore., Amy Hindman of LaConner, Wash.; stepsons, Steve Hindman of Corinth, Texas, Paul Hindman of Boulder, Colo.; daughter-in-law Jannette Hindman of Denton; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma Ready of Lewisville, Texas, and Leah Folker of Leesburg, Fla. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and James McReynolds.

Family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church parlor. The memorial service will follow in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m. The Rev. Steve Plunkett, the Rev. Clent Loveall and the Rev. James Spivey will be officiating the service.

Memorials may be made in Billie Hindman’s memory to the Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village, 3901 Montecito, Denton, Texas, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Children’s Choir, or Vista Care Family Hospice, 625 Dallas Drive, Suite 250, Denton, Texas.

The family of Billie Hindman would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of the Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village for the efficient and tender dedicated care they gave Billie. In addition, the Vista Care Family Hospice was invaluable in the final days with medical and spiritual support for Billie and her daughter Pat. To honor the memory of Billie, follow the example of these dedicated caregivers by reaching out with love to someone every day.

‘Bob’ Shadden

James Robert "Bob" Shadden, 85, of Denton, formerly of Houston, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 20, 1901, in Chattanooga, Tenn., to Walter and Ora (Calfee) Shadden. On Sept. 6, 1936, he married Neva June Roberts in Bernalillo, N.M.

Mr. Shadden retired after 34 years as chief flight specialist for the Federal Aviation Agency. He was a Scottish Rite Mason in Houston.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denton.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in Cole Chapel of the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Mueller and the Rev. Bill Crouch will officiate. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; three daughters, Helen Ruth Carson of Pearland, Alice Louise Hobbs of Portland, and Lera June Borden of Denton; two sons, James Arthur Shadden of Houston and William Walter Shadden of Murnetta, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
