Scott Ready

Lewisville – Scott Ready, 97, of Lewisville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1903, to Younger Scott Ready Sr. and Rosa Lee Holcomb Ready. On Feb. 16, 1941, he married Thelma Cole in Dallas

Mr. Ready worked as a druggist’s assistant for Chambers and Orr Drug Store and also Moore Drug Store. He was a 50-year member of the Lewisville Masonic Lodge #201 A.F&A.M.

He was a lifetime member and former board member of the First United Methodist Church of Lewisville.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at First United Methodist Church of Lewisville. The Rev. John Mollet will officiate. Interment will follow in Old Hall Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Monday, Oct. 22, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.

Memorials may be made to the Old Hall Cemetery Association, 119 E. Main Street, Lewisville, Texas 75057.

Survivors include his wife of Lewisville; one daughter, B.J. Ladd of Carrollton; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Donald L. Robinson

Pilot Point – Donald Lee Robinson, 62, of Pilot Point, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born March 15, 1939, in Beckville, to Don Bee and Ethel Fay Sons Robinson. On Oct. 4, 1976, he married Wanda Smith Patterson in Gainesville.

Mr. Robinson was a self-employed truck driver.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton.

The Rev. John Holland will officiate. Burial will be in Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Collin County.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 .m. tonight, Monday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Robinson of Argyle and Frankie Robinson of Pilot Point; two stepsons, Jackie and Olive Patterson, both of Pilot Point; three daughters, Kim Stewart of McKinney, Gayla Robinson of Krum and Tammy Hackler of Denton; three stepdaughters, Kathy Pearson of Denton, Nancy Garrison of The Colony and Mary Hardaway of Lewisville; one sister, Darlene Krone of Denton; one brother, John Robinson of Crossroads; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Lanette Newland

Lewisville – Lanette Newland, age 53, of Lewisville, went to be with the Lord after a strong and courageous seven-month battle, on Friday, Oct. 19, 2001.

She was born Oct. 10, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Jim and Darlene Angel. She married Billy Jack Newland on May 27, 1967 in Lewisville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lewisville, past president of Denton County Aggie Moms and a past officer of the Federation of Aggie Moms. Lanette worked for Joe Irick State Farm Insurance for five years. Lanette was a loving and nurturing wife and mother.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at First Baptist Church in Lewisville. Dr. Stephen G. Hatfield and the Rev. Truett King will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lewisville First Baptist Church Children's Ministry or to the Camp Copass Children's Ministry in Denton.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Jack Newland of Lewisville; her daughter, Dr. Sherrie Newland-Kjar and her husband Chris of Austin; her son, Everette Newland and his wife Jenny of Sanger; her mother, Darlene Angel of Denton; her twin sister Lanita Angel-Morris of Denton; and one grandson, Dillon Christopher Kjar. She was preceded in death by her father, Brother Jim Angel, on Aug. 4, 1985.

Mary Martinez

Mary Martinez, 65, of Denton died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001.

She was born July 11, 1936, in New Boston to Leroy Sanders and Callie Graves.

Mrs. Martinez was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, New Boston.

A service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 26, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Denton. The Rev. Greg Forte will officiate. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery, New Boston.

The family will be at People’s Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband, Juan Martinez of Denton; one son, Marcus Jackson of Denton; four daughters, Ellen Sanders, Ruthie Jackson, Jannett Flowers, and Sherry Walker, all of Denton; her brother, Joe Louis Sanders of Grenada, Miss.; three sisters, Emma Sanders of Denton, Dorothy Owens of McKinney, and Betty Bernard of Grenada, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ro Barber

Lewisville – Roverne "Ro" Nichols Barber, 46, of Lewisville died Friday, Oct.19, 2001, at Medical Center of Lewisville.

She was born Dec. 14, 1954, in Wichita Falls to Ralph Laverne and Rosannah Woody Nichols. On Feb. 14, 1974, she married Robert J. Barber in Wichita Falls.

Mrs. Barber spent 18 years in Girl Scouting as a leader and field director and she worked for Quilt Country in Lewisville.

A service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Flower Mound. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 3530 Forest Lane, Ste. 105, Dallas, TX 75234.

Survivors include her husband of Lewisville; two daughters, Melissa Eperjesi of Lewisville and Shannon Ford of Corinth; her father of Wichita Falls; her brother, Ralph W. Nichols of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Ada Mae Davis

Celina – Ada Mae Davis, 75, of Celina died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Medical City in Dallas.

She was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Pilot Point to Lucille Jackson and Edgar Bruce.

She was a member of St. Phillip Baptist Church in Celina.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Philip Baptist Church in Celina. The Rev. Isiah Moore Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Old Celina Cemetery.

The family will be at Peoples Funeral Home in Denton from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, for visitation.

Survivors include one son, David Earl Richardson of Celina; three daughters, Ada Fay Williams, Linda Ruth Petty and Annetta Thompson, all of Celina; two brothers, Cornelius Bruce of Celina and Fate Gene Bruce of McKinney; one sister, Olivia Bell of Anaheim, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Harold Idecker

Lewisville – Harold A. Idecker, 92, of Lewisville died Oct. 19, 2001, at a Grand Prairie Nursing Home.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1909, in St. Louis, Mo to Edward and Olinda Wissman Idecker.

Mr. Idecker retired from the Afton School District in 1977, after 23 years of service. He moved to Lewisville in 1989 where he became very active in community service. He was a member and volunteer of The Lamb of God Lutheran Church, Flower Mound.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at The Lamb of God Lutheran Church. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will follow the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to The Lamb of God Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Idecker of Lewisville.

Roy Ingram Jr.

Argyle – Roy E. Ingram Jr., 56, of Argyle died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at his residence. DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Bud Sanders

Alvord – Robert Ernest "Bud" Sanders Jr., 85, of Alvord died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Decatur.

He was born Dec. 10, 1915, in Round Rock. On Sept.11, 1937, he married Brownie May Pridgen in Brownsville.

Mr. Sanders was a welding contractor.

He was a member of the Alvord Church of Christ.

A service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Alvord Church of Christ. Ed Cate will officiate. Burial will be in the Alvord Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Edwin, Roger Dale, John Paul and Joseph Ray Kuykendall, Richard Dean Bailey, and James Robert Gomme.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Coker Funeral Home, Decatur.

Survivors include his wife of Alvord; his son, Robert Sanders of Alvord; two daughters, Dorothy Kuykendall of Alvord, and Laura Lou Bailey of Gun Barrel City; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Wynonah Welty

North Richland Hills – Wynonah Marie Welty, 66, of Denton died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Alvord.

Mrs. Welty was employed as a property manager.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Irwindell United Methodist Church, Dallas.

Survivors include her daughter, Easter Welty of North Richland Hills; two brothers, Bill Sorrels of Alvord, and Harlan Capps of Campeche, Mexico; and two sisters, Helen Bulhan of and Laverne Burks of Garland.

Lucy Woodard

Ponder – Lucy Brooke Woodard, 19 days old, of Ponder died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 at the Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 1, 2001 in Denton to Destry and Sarah (Firebaugh) Woodard.

A graveside service will be at 12 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Patrick Cemetery in Royalton, Ky. Eddie Dennison will officiate.

Survivors include her parents of Ponder; and her grandparents, Sharon and David Firebaugh of Krum, and Jim and Donna Woodard of Royalton, Ky.

Leroy Metzler

Lindsey – The Mass of Christian Burial for Leroy W. Metzler, 78, of Lindsey, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Sebastian Beshoner, O.S.B., pastor of St. Peter’s officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home.

Our beloved and respected father gained his eternal reward on Oct. 22, 2001, at his home in Lindsay, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

A rosary will be held at 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay.

Leroy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He was born the second child of Francis and Phillip Metzler Jr. on Sept. 24, 1923, in Cooke County. He attended school in Lindsey. He was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He started a career in the restaurant business that would span over fifty years after coming back from the war; the majority of these years he was one of three owners of Metzler Bros. Drive Inn. It was at his first restaurant that he would meet his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Burns. They were married on May 26, 1953, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. Their wonderful and loving marriage would end on Nov. 18, 1982, when Peggy lost her 19-year battle with poor health. The marriage produced six children and nine grandchildren.

Leroy enjoyed helping others, farming, supporting mission work and the education of Catholic priests in South America, hunting and fishing. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Peter’s Men’s Society, and the National Republican Committee. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cooke County Youth Fair in the 1960s. He was a church warden for St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was responsible for organizing the first homecoming picnic. He served his church as an usher for the past 30 years and was presently serving on the St. Peter’s Cemetery Committee.

A loving, caring, forgiving father and grandfather, he is survived by his children, Tommy Metzler and wife Toni of Denton, Terri Metzler of Denton, Kathy Metzler and husband Charles Tubbs of Austin, Diane Burt of Lindsay, Steve Metzler of Gainesville, and Donald L. Metzler and wife Teresa of Lindsay. Grandchildren include Clint Metzler of San Marcos, Paul and Megan Metzler of Lindsay, Emilee, Hannah, and Sera Burt of Lindsay, Tyler Metzler of Denton, and Joshua and Erin Metzler of Denton.

A dependable and helpful brother, Lee is survived by his sisters, Virginia "Sweetie" Noggler of Lindsay, Anna Bell Dieter and her husband Rudy of Lindsay; and brothers, Clarence "Dutch" Metzler and wife Vera of Lindsay, Gerald Metzler and wife Verena of Lindsay, Bill Metzler and wife Ethel of Lindsay, Julius Metzler and wife Marcella of Lindsay, and Raymond "Bud" Metzler and wife Helen of Lindsay. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and Godson, Derek Sicking.

Leroy is also survived by his loving, faithful friend and companion of the past 18 years, Dorothy A. Mitchell of Gainesville. The family would like to thank her for her labor of love the past ten months taking care of Lee.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the caring staff of Home Hospice of Cooke County as well as caregivers Lori Goodpastor and Pat Rickert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister-in-law Lois Metzler, and brother-in-law Ted Noggler.

Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery will be under the direction of Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Donald, Steve, Tommy, Clint, and Paul Metzler, and Charles Tubbs. Honorary pallbearers are his brothers and Weldon Bezner, Freddie Schmitz, Dr. C.F. Lusk, Frances Wiese, and Rudy Dieter.

Our father would prefer that contributions be made to either St. Peter’s Religious Education, Providence Hall, P.O. Box 148, Lindsay, Texas 76250, or Home Hospice of Cooke County, P.O. Box 936, Gainesville, Texas 76241, in lieu of sending flowers.

Russell Lee

Colorado Springs, Colo. – Russell W. Lee, 53, a resident of Denton State School, passed away while on a trip to see the mountains of Colorado.

A brief ceremony will be held at the Denton State School Chapel at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25. Deacon Popo Gonzales will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

Russell was born Nov. 17, 1947, in Austin. He had been a resident of Denton State School since 1964. He enjoyed listening to "oldies" on KLUV, collecting pictures of his friends on campus, and talking about his favorite songs. He is preceded in death by his father, James F. Lee, M.D.; and his mother, Maurine B. Lee of Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Volunteer Services at Denton State School, P.O. Box 368 Denton, Texas 76202.

A special debt of gratitude is extended to Dr. Michael Ainsfield and the staff at Colorado Springs Memorial Hospital for their unyielding dedication, support and professionalism.

Survivors include his brother, James F. Lee and wife Jane of Arlington; sister, Gina Cook and husband, Tim of McKinney; niece, Stacey Davis and husband Lance of the Colony; and nephew, Ryan Lee of Dallas.

Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
