Robert O. Beckham
The Colony – Robert O. Beckham, 79, of The Colony, retired captain, U.S. Army, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2001. He was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Crystal City, Mo.
As a young man he worked on the railroad until World War II, when he enlisted and was sent to Europe to fight. He received a battlefield commission and distinguished himself with several medals and two Purple Hearts during his 30-year enlistment.
He retired to the Dallas area and worked as an engineer for the City of Dallas. He was an avid outdoorsman, artist and computer genius.
His beloved wife, Mary, departing in 1999, will now be rejoined. He is survived by four children, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Minnie J. Crabtree
Justin – Minnie Jane Crabtree, 87, a housewife, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in Decatur.
A service will be at 2 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 29, at Fairview Baptist Church in Fairview. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Minnie was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Louisiana. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Pennington, and husband, Butch, of Roanoke; her son, Harold Crabtree of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Charles, Sandy and Chris Pennington of Justin, Mike and Paul Crabtree of Haltom City, Sherry Syrus of Haltom City, and Clayton Hubbard and Sara Enocks of Alvord; and great-grandchildren, Ross and Hailey Pennington, Ricky Syrus and Rhonda Crabtree.

Billy W. Partin
Billy Wayne Partin, 73, of Denton died Sunday, Oct. 28, at his residence.
Mr. Partin was born April 3, 1928 in Ralls, to William and Lou Ella Partin. He attended Ralls public schools. On Sept. 11, 1976, he married Glenna Faye Moore. He was active in the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Forest Service in Arizona.
A memorial service will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the family home on Jim Christal Road in Denton. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the VISTA Care hospice.
Survivors include his wife of Denton; one daughter, Sue McMillen of Crowley; one son, Spencer Gillespie of Denton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

James K. Stouffer, 94, of Denton died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, in Denton.

S.B. Lakey
Lewisville – S.B. Lakey, 76, of Lewisville died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center in Justin.
He was born April 20, 1925, in Batesville, Miss. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 31, 1946, he married Erma C. Davis in Mississippi. She died March 17, 1996.
Mr. Lakey worked as a carpenter.
A service will be at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. The Rev. Randy Templin will officiate. Interment will follow in Chinn Chapel Cemetery in Copper Canyon.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ann Lipstraw of Longview and Sandra Pruitt of Lewisville; three sons, Robert L. Lakey and James H. Lakey, both of Lewisville, and Barry G. Lakey of Lake Dallas; one brother, Carl Lakey; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Lakey, four sisters, and two brothers.
Dwayne Parton
Bartonville – Carroll Dwayne Parton, 62, of Bartonville died Oct. 26, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1939. Norma and Charles Parton Sr. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.
He had been an industrial arts instructor for El Centro and Mountain View Colleges in Dallas, and at the time of his death he was employed by Peterbilt Motors in Denton.
He was a former member of Drasco Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children, Kellie Rene Skellen of Dallas, Jeffrey Todd Parton of Denton, and Teri Lynn Boutin of Tupelo, Miss.; his mother, Norma Parton of Waco; one sister, Charla Rudd of Cranfills Gap; one brother, Charles W. Parton Jr. of Yakima, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
A service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Open visitation will begin at 12 noon today, Tuesday, Oct. 30, and continue through noon Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
Grace Sons
Justin – Grace May Sons, 78, of Justin died Monday, Oct. 29, at Denton Community Hospital.
She was born May 16, 1923, in McKinney, to Charlie and Mary R. (Brown) Sipes. In September of 1938 she married Willie Sons in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Sons was a retired house parent for Denton State School and a homemaker.
She was Baptist.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Martin Cemetery in Tatum. The Rev. Donald Rivers will officiate.
The family will be at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home in Denton from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 30, for visitation.
Survivors include her husband of Justin; three daughters, Nelva Scott of Denton, Helen Teague of Fort Worth, and Glenda Harris of Denton; two sons, Melvin Sons of Henderson and Wendle Sons of Justin; one sister, Minnie Bell Weaver of Beckville; one brother, Marion Sipes of Tatum; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Sally Bowman
Sarah "Sally" Merten Bowman, 65, of Denton died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the Denton Nursing Center.
She was born April 1, 1936, in Great Bend, Kan. to Lloyd and Margaret (Dklyn) Merten. On Jan. 25, 1958, she married Larry Bowman in Great Bend, Kan. She received a degree in education from Fort Hayes Kansas State University in 1958.
Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker.
A service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home in Denton. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband of Denton; one son, Curtis Alan Bowman of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Mary Anne Mull of Great Bend, Kan., Rachel Miller of Eufaula, Okla., Martha Merten of Charlotte, N.C., and Rebecca Midica of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one brother, Robert Merten of Lake Wood, Colo.
Jeff H. McMahan
Jeff Hall McMahan, 89, of Denton died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Good Samaritan Village.
He was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Commanche, Okla., to Jefferson McKinley and Ethel Louise Hall McMahan. He attended Austin College in Sherman. In 1934 he married Mary Elizabeth Blincoe in Clarksville. She died Feb. 15, 1981. He was a board member of the Denton Country Club.
Mr. McMahan was the director of training and education for the Civil Defense, now the Federal Emergency Management Agency, for Region 5. In his career he was the personnel director of the Joellette Arsenal in Joellette, Ill.
He attended St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Steve Plunkett will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann McMahan Ireland; one son, Jerry N. McMahan of Wylie; and three grandchildren.

James K. Stouffer
James K. Stouffer, formerly of Birmingham, Ala., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001. He was born Dec. 7, 1906, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of Charles and Emma Keck Stouffer. He lived at Denton Good Samaritan Village for 14 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Denton, having transferred his membership from Fairfield Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, Ala., where he had been a member for 49 years, and also served as a deacon and an elder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Fairfield, Ala., F&AM #749.
He was employed by U.S. Steel in both Monesson, Pa., and Fairfield, Ala., as supervisor in the Quality Control department. He retired after 37 1/2 years of service.
His wife, Verna Kistler Stouffer, preceded him in death and to Heaven on Nov. 12, 2000.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Ellis of Denton; several nieces and nephews in Pa.; and many wonderful friends.
Memorial services will be held in the chapel at Denton Good Samaritan, 2500 Hinkle Drive, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, with Mack Tomlinson, chaplain, officiating. Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
His family requests that memorials be made to Denton Good Samaritan Health Center.
Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala., on the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 12, 2001.
Calvin Goode
Calvin Coolage Goode, 77, of Denton died Wednesday at Cottonwood Manor.
He was born May 17, 1924, in Sulphur, Okla., to John Henry and Nora Helen Nunnley Goode.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 1, at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas. The Rev. Charlie Strong will officiate. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his sister, Gaylene Joy of Pilot Point.
Travis Durrett Sr.
Travis O’Neal Durrett Sr., 85, of Ponder died Wednesday Oct. 31, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Collinsville to Milton and Nora Casteel Durrett. On Oct. 30, 1942, he married Letha Wofford in Fort Worth. She died in 1983.
Mr. Durrett retired as a heavy- equipment operator for Denton County.
He was Baptist.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey. The Rev. Carl Robertson will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Sterling Durrett, Mel Durrett, Michael Durrett, Gary Durrett, Todd Durrett, Clem Deussen and Ty McClary.
The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8:30 today, Thursday, Nov. 1, for visitation.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Deussen and Ginger Deussen, both of Ponder, and Dee McClary of Abilene; five sons, Travis Durrett of Denton, Gerald Durrett of Denton, Everett Durrett of Gordonville, Dick Durrett of Decatur and Jim Durrett of Ponder; two sisters, Ina Chemault of Dallas and Clara Robertson of Arlington; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Chauvin.
Joseph Ryniejski
Joseph Ryniejski joined "a roomful of my friends" on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001. He was 82 years old.
A native of Poland, Joe was born June 16, 1919. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the armies of three countries. Settling in England after the war, Joe then moved to Connecticut in 1952 with his wife, mother-in-law, and three children. Joe retired from Farrel Corporation with 30 years of service. He was an active member of Saint Joseph Church for almost 50 years where he spent 20 years as a reader in the Polish language mass. Joe and Valerie, his wife of 58 years, moved to Denton in August to be close to their family.
He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Angela Dlugensky and Helene Ramey, both of Denton, and son, Edward Ryniejski of West Haven, Conn. Other survivors include grandchildren Donna and Edmund Dlugensky, Seth Ramey, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Denton. Huff-Slay Funeral Home of Pilot Point is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Ann’s Haven Hospice, 216 Mulberry Street, Denton, Texas 76201, who made his passing so much easier.
