James Strickland

James V. Strickland, 75, of Denton died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born June 26, 1926 in Aubrey to Jack and Bessie Strickland. In Dec. 1943, he married Mary Seal in Aubrey.

Mr. Strickland served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an assembly worker for General Motors in Arlington before his retirement.

He attended Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

A service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. The Rev. John Lindsay will officiate. Burial will be in Belew Cemetery, Aubrey.

Survivors include his wife of Denton, and his sister, Jerry Petit of Whitewright.

Lena Wilkinson

Lena Mae Wilkinson, 91, of Denton died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Denton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 30, 1920 in Millford to Charlie and Iva Elizabeth (Driskill) Brown. On Sept. 23, 1929, she married Lowell Lynn Wilkinson in Marietta, Okla. He died May, 1985. She attended public schools.

Mrs. Wilkinson was a member of the Church of Christ.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home. Terry Collins will officiate. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery, Corinth.

The family will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service for visitation.

Survivors include her sister, Sherry Elizabeth Whitehead of Bridgeport; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth Geiwitz

Ruth Frances Geiwitz, 91, of Denton, formerly of Bedford, died Thursday morning, Nov. 8, 2001, at the Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 4, 1910, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Charles Hayden Hellums and Nettie Bertha (Collins) Hellums.

She was a member of the St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Hurst. Ruth retired from Holiday Inns of America as an Executive Housekeeper Trainer but continued to work until the age of 80 training franchise hotels in the same capacity.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Ruth Geiwitz be made to the Employee Benevolence Committee, Denton Regional Medical Center, Attn. Janice Dobbs, 3535 South I-35, Denton, TX 76210.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Hurst. Interment will be at the Memorial Park in St. Joseph, Mo.

Her son Charles Geiwitz preceded her in death in 1998. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sue Reed and husband Butch of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren, including Tyler Stewart and wife LeAnn, Courtney Nelson and husband Dean, Kevin Reed, Robyn Reed, and Jenny Downs and husband Randall; 16 great-grandchildren, including Trey, Tanner, Tavin, Dylan, Matthew and Richard.

DeBerry Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.

Larry Oldaker

Shady Shores – Larry Douglas Oldaker, age 47, of Shady Shores passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at the Medical Cities Hospital in Dallas. He was led by angels to be with his Lord.

He was born in Deming, N.M., on Feb. 20, 1954, to Charles Jefferson and Alice Louise (Polley) Oldaker. On May 11, 1979, he married Donna Kathryn Rife in Austin, Texas.

As a heart transplant recipient of 13 years, Larry led a full, active life and worked as a licensed plumber until a recent illness. Larry valued his gift of life and would encourage others to be organ and tissue donors.

He is survived by his wife Donna Kathryn Oldaker; daughter, Rachel Anne Oldaker; sons, Charlie Summers Oldaker, and Patrick Alan Oldaker, all of Shady Shores, and Jason Ward Oldaker of San Angelo, Texas; two grandsons, Camren Ward and Jorden Douglas Oldaker, both of San Angelo, Texas; stepmother; three brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steve Davis will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Cross Roads.

Pallbearers will be Jai Burunaphan, Matt Augustine, Ron Bell, Chuck Patterson, Bruce Oldaker and Jeff Oldaker.

Mulkey-Mason Jack Schmitz & Son is in charge of arrangements.

James DuBose

James Edward DuBose, 85, of Denton died, Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1916, in Newton County to John Edward and Fleta Belle (Snyder) DuBose. In 1940, he married Bonnie Louise Bickley in Beaumont. She died Dec. 25, 1995.

Mr. DuBose was retired from the Mobil Oil Co. and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Beaumont.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Denton.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 12, at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. A memorial will follow at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Denton Good Samaritan Village, Denton. The Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Dallas to the building fund or the music ministry, 1707 San Jacinto, Dallas, Texas 75201, or to Denton Good Samaritan Village, 2500 Hinkle Drive, Denton, Texas 76201.

Survivors include one daughter, Ellen L. Mathis of Dallas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz & Son is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Tank

Irene Teresa Tank, 69, of Denton died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at her residence. Mulkey-Mason Jack Schmitz & Son Funeral Home.

Sally Anderson

Coppell – Sally Anderson of Coppell, Texas, born July 24, 1953, in Milwaukee, Wis., died Nov. 8, 2001, in Lewisville, Texas.

Sally graduated from Centerville High School in Dayton, Ohio, class of 1971. She attended Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis. Sally completed both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in 1984 from North Texas State University and earned her CPA shortly thereafter. She was Controller at North American Railnet.

She is survived by her husband Les; daughters, Alice and Rachel; parents, Mary and William Tripp; sisters, Susan Archer, Betsy Elgin, and Martha Tripp; and brother Ted Tripp.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Covenant Church, 2644 E. Trinity Mills Road, Carrollton, Texas 75006.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 8900 John W. Carpenter Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247.

Lena Wilkinson

Lena Mae Wilkinson, 91, of Denton, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Denton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 30, 1910, in Millford, Texas to Charlie and Iva Elizabeth (Driskill) Brown. She attended Public Schools. She was married to Lowell Lynn Wilkinson, Sept. 23, 1929, in Marietta, Okla. He died in May 1985.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, with Terry Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Corinth, Texas.

The family will be at the funeral home for visitation from 1 p.m. until service time, Sunday.

Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by three grandchildren, Micki Rushing of Lake Dallas, Steve Sparks of Lewisville, and Becky Beck of Krum; one sister, Sherry Elizabeth Whitehead of Bridgeport, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Peggy Sparks.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bill Jones

Bill G. Jones, 74, husband, father, and Paw Paw, passed away Monday, November 5, 2001 at his home.

He was born September 23, 1927 in Krum to A. W. and Eunice (McFall) Jones.He married Maybeth Wood on April 3, 1954 in Mesquite. He attended Krum schools and North Texas State University.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Claudia Jones; three brothers, Snooks Jones, Travis Jones, A. W. (Junior) Jones; and three grandchildren, Marla Dawn, Kelly, and Susan Jones.

Bill was a member and lay-witness mission leader at Krum United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge #418. He was head of the Quality Department at LTV until he retired in 1984. He later worked at Northrop-Grumman until 1993.

He is survived by his wife of Krum; five sons and their wives, Tim and Vicki Jones of Krum, Larry and Donna Jones of Ponder, Terry and Staci Jones of Krum, Watt and Sheree Jones of Krum, and Rick and Sara Jones of Sanger; sister-in-law, Lois Jones of Denton; and fifteen grandchildren who knew him as Paw Paw; Kameron and Tyler Jones, Riann and Krista Jones, Jina, J. D., and Jennifer Jones, Aaron and Mikenzi Bower, Zachary, Elijah, and Alyssa Jones, and Emily, Preston, and Taylor Jones.

His passions in life were calligraphy, airplanes, fly fishing in Colorado, gardening, riding his 1947 Ford tractor and bragging about each of his five sons playing in State tournament basketball games. His greatest love of all was his family and he will be deeply missed.

Bedford – Frances R. McKenna of Bedford died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, in Bedford.

Pilot Point – Lloyd Eugene Reed, 75, of Pilot Point died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Kern Manor.

Martha Ann Greer

Decatur – Martha Ann Greer, 58, of Decatur died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her residence.

She was born April 28, 1943, in Savannah, Ga. In 1972 she married Wesley Randolph Greer in Decatur. She was a homemaker.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Bible Way Church in Alvord. Mike Maxon will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Decatur.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, Nov. 12, for visitation.

Survivors include her husband of Decatur; six sons, Johnny R. Pippin, Tim Pippin and Jeremy Fabela, all of Decatur, Robby Anderson of Alvord, Wesley Greer Jr. of Mesquite, and Tim Greer of Decatur; two daughters, Pamela Darlene Fabela and Edwina Lou Hargrave, both of Decatur; five brothers, Jimmy Turner of Decatur, Raymond Turner and Richard Turner, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jerold Turner of Augusta, Ga., and Jerry Turner of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Fran Flowers of Jessup, Ga.; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Tracy Turner.

Lorraine A. Steele

Keller – Lorraine Abbey Steele, 83, of Keller died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills.

She was born April 5, 1918, in Denton to Roy and Lilly Abbey, and she graduated from North Texas State University in 1958. On May 19, 1936, she married William Steel in Phoenix, Ariz. He is deceased.

Mrs. Steele retired from teaching for the Denton County Co-Op Special Education.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Denton.

The family has requested that memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Powers of Keller; one son, Bobby Steele of Granbury; three sisters, Dorothy White of Scottsdale, Ariz., Peggy Browne of Florida, and Betty Abbey of Keller; three brothers, Joe Abbey of Denton, Sam Abbey of Pilot Point, and Pete Abbey of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Helen Taylor

Austin – Helen Taylor, 64, of Stephenville died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Austin.

She was born Sept. 29, 1937. On Dec. 26, 1959, she married George "Bud" Taylor in Justin. He died Nov. 28, 1999.

Mrs. Taylor lived in Stephenville several years before moving to Austin in 1999. She and her husband owned and operated Ridge T. Manufacturing in Stephenville.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the chapel of Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville. Ralph Starling will officiate. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight, Monday, Nov. 12, for visitation.

Survivors include one daughter, Dana Purswell of Austin; one son, Ridge Taylor of Stephenville; one brother, Ray Henderson of Justin; three sisters, Myrtle Gwin, Lois Butler and Billye Hollingsworth, all of Sanger; and four grandchildren.
