Royce Milton Deaver
Aug. 25, 1919 – March 17, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Royce Milton Deaver, 80, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Darrien Donaldson of Fellowship Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Deaver died Friday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

He was born near Tolar, Texas, and worked as an agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad for more than 39 years.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Marcille Oden Deaver of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Royce D. and Ernestine Deaver of Houston; a daughter, Kaye Warner of Brenham; a brother, Charles Deaver of Huntsville; three sisters, Laura Mae Peters of Belton, Doris Havens of Belton and Shirley Rogers of Colgate, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children at 2222 Wellborn St., Dallas, Texas, 75219.

Virginia L. Dansby
July 27, 1916 — March 18, 2000

Services for Virginia L. Dansby, 83, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Bryan.
The Rev. Bob Richers of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral

Home in Bryan and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Dansby died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Blanket, Texas, and had lived in Bryan since the 1940s. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Gold Medallion Club at St. Joseph Regional Health Center, where she also volunteered. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bryan, where she was a member of the Neighborly Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Durant M. Dansby Sr.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe H. and Susan Dansby of Katy, Texas, and Durant M. Dansby Jr. of Bryan; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Georgia Dangerfield
June 9, 1944 — March 16, 2000

GLADEWATER, Texas — Services for Georgia Dangerfield, 55, of Caldwell are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Caldwell.

Burial will be in Roland Cemetery in Caldwell.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dearion &

Davis Funeral Parlor in Gladewater and from 3 to 7 p.m.

Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Dangerfield died Thursday in a Dallas hospital.
She was born in Caldwell and formerly lived in Arthur City, Texas, and Gladewater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Robert Dangerfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Johnson of Gladewater and Remonda Dangerfield of Dallas; four brothers, Clifford Pollard, Irvin Pollard, Henry Pollard and Melvin Pollard; a great-aunt; and an uncle.

Hattie E. Knesek
June 3, 1915 — March 17, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Hattie E. Knesek, 84, of Caldwell are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Pam Rose-Beeler will officiate. Burial will be in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Knesek died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Burleson County and was formerly employed by Eibans Department Store in Galveston, Texas. She was a member of Cooks Point United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Marilyn Vavra of Caldwell; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mary ‘Maxine’ Kovacevich
Dec. 5, 1929 — March 18, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Services for Mary “Maxine” Kovacevich, 70, of Marquez, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

The Revs. Donald Pruitt and Donald Head will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery in the Flo Community of northeast Leon County.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kovacevich died Saturday at her home.

She was born in Flo, Texas, and had moved back to Leon County in 1970. She formerly lived in Galveston, Texas, and was retired from Bankers Savings and Loan in Galveston. She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Centerville.

Survivors include her husband, Nick Kovacevich of Marquez; a son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Debbie Kovacevich of Flynn, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Chyrel and James Stafford of Marquez; a sister, Loretta Sutterland of Sacramento, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Charles Rudolph Maly
Nov. 14, 1902 — Feb. 26, 2000

MODESTO, Calif. — Graveside services for Charles Rudolph Maly, 97, of Modesto were held March 1 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson, Calif.

Arrangements were under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto.

Mr. Maly died Feb. 26 in Evergreen Convalescent Hospital.
He was born in Caldwell and had lived in Modesto for 61 years. He formerly lived in the Smetana community for many years. He was a plumber for 61 years with Peterson Plumbing and was a member of Laborers Union Local 1130.

Survivors include a son, Charles Maly of Modesto; a brother, John Maly of Bryan; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 4933, Modesto, Calif. 95352.

Harriet M. Meyer
died March 17, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Harriet M. Meyer of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

The Rev. Virgil Pecht will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at New Dublin Live Oak Cemetery in New Dublin, Texas.

Mrs. Meyer died Friday in Trinity Care Center in Brenham.
She was born in Monaville, Texas, and owned and operated Meyer’s Store for a number of years. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Gay Hill.She was also a member of ELCA and Eastern Star, where she was a past Worthy Matron.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Carolyn Humphries of Winnsboro, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Maurice Nance of Houston and Mary Jane and John Harper of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Kenneth Klehm of Monaville; and a sister, Jimmie Weiman of Brenham; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church in Gay Hill.

Luke Peter Scamardo
July 31, 1896 — March 16, 2000

Services for Luke Peter Scamardo, 103, of Mumford are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.
The Rev. Steve Kana of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Scamardo died Thursday.

He was born in Poggiorelae, Sicily, and had lived in Robertson County since 1934. He formerly lived in the Steele Store community of Brazos County. He farmed cotton, corn, alfalfa and milo and was a founder the Farmers Brazos Gin Co., Mumford Alfalfa Milling Co. and the Hearne Cotton Compress, where he served as president for 41 years. He served as a Justice of the Peace and as a trustee of the local school board and operated L.P. Scamardo & Sons Farm & Ranch with his sons and later, his grandsons. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne, where he served on the building committee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Varisco Scamardo; and a daughter, Betty Marie Beard.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Luke and Camella Scamardo of Bryan and Anthony Luke and Mary Joyce Scamardo of Mumford; two sisters, Antoinette Bacile and Anne Court, both of Houston; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard Lee Vassar
Oct. 1, 1937 — March 17, 2000

JEWETT — Graveside services for Howard Lee Vassar, 62, of are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Little Flock Cemetery in Jewett.
The Rev. Walter Pickens of Little Flock Church will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ricks Funeral Home in Jewett.

Mr. Vassar died Friday in Providence Hospital in Waco.
He was born in Houston and was a drywall installer/carpenter. He was a Baptist and was a member of the Sons of Hermann in Houston.

Survivors include a son, Monty Vassar of Jewett; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Mike Barkovski of Mexia, Texas; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Bubba and Debbie Tumlinson of Jewett; two brothers, J.D. Vassar of Jewett and James

Vassar of Henderson; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Inez Smith Bain
July 28, 1913 — March 19, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Inez Smith Bain, 86, of Marquez are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Marquez Baptist Church.

The Rev. Billy Bob Evans of Marquez will officiate. Burial will be in the Marquez Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Blair-Stubbs-McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mrs. Bain died Sunday at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Marquez and was a homemaker. She was a member of Marquez Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernice Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Bain of Marquez; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Jane Smith and John and Kim Smith, all of Marquez; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Erwin Reagan of Marquez; two sisters, Clara Carlisle of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Mabel Welch of Marquez; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Floyd W. Eiland
April 8, 1928 — March 19, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Floyd W. Eiland, 71, of Austin are set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Revs. Emerald Wray and Charles Hyde of the Assembly of God will officiate. Burial will be in the Salty Cemetery near Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Eiland died Sunday in the Seaton Medical Center in Austin.

He was born near Tanglewood, Texas and had lived in Austin most of his adult life. He formerly lived in the Rockdale area and in Lexington. He was a professional land surveyor for nearly 40 years and was a member of Christian Center Assembly of God in Austin. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Florine Eiland of Austin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephen and Rebecca Eiland and Gregory Eiland, all of Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Mark Ballard and Stephanie and Peter Markham, all of Austin; two brothers, Nolan Eiland of Houston and Curtis Eiland of Belton, Texas; three sisters, Avis Rae Yoakum and Laura Hill, both of Temple, and Edna Mae DuBois of Milano; and eight grandchildren.

Antonio Luna
Sept. 9, 1962 — March 19, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Antonio Luna, 37, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale.

The Rev. Robert Herald of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Luna died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Mexico and had lived in Rockdale for 25 years. He was a general laborer for various cotton gins in the central Texas area.

Survivors include his parents, Maria Carmona of Rockdale and Pedro Luna of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandfather, Apolinar Carmona of Mexico; a brother, Manuel Luna of Rockdale; a half-brother, Antonio Luna of Phoenix; five sisters, Soledad Cervantes, Raquel Cervantes and Christine Luna, all of Rockdale, Guadalupe Carmona of Dallas and Flora Luna of Mexico.

Mary Helen Medina
June 10, 1923 — March 19, 2000

Graveside services for Mary Helen Medina, 76, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bryan City Cemetery.

The Rev. Charles Mason will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Medina died Sunday in East Houston Regional Medical Center in Houston.

She was born in Marlin, Texas, and was a retired sales clerk for K. Wollens in Bryan. She was Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Seberino Medina.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Earl Harlan of Marlin and Charles Ross Harlan of Houston; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
