Charlie Brown
June 9, 1935 — April 17, 2000

Services for Charlie Brown, 64, of Hearne are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Emmanuel Baptist Church.

The Rev. C.M. Roach will officiate. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery in Dermott, Ark. An additional service will also be held Sunday in Dermott.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to the time of services Thursday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Brown died Monday in M.D. Anderson Hospital.

He was born in Dermott, Ark., was retired from Aluminum Corp., was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of St. Emmanuel Baptist Church where he was an usher.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Osborne Brown of Hearne; two daughters, Jane Brown of Oklahoma City, and Charlestine Jefferson of Detroit; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Allen and Josephine Brown and Isaiah and Joyce Brown, all of California, James Brown of Little Rock, Ark., Jewel and Fae Brown of South Windsor, Conn., and Theodore and Joann Brown and John Wesley and Almira Brown, all of Dermott, Ark.; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jeanette and L.C. Robinson of Dermott, Doris and Brig Brannon and Laura Powell, all of Grandview, Mo; eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society.

Carey Chester Easterling
July 6, 1918 — April 17, 2000

BRENHAM —Services for Carey Chester Easterling, 81, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Steve Ponder will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Easterling died Monday in Brenham Rest Home.

He was born in Personville, Texas, served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion #48 and VFW 7104, and he was employed at Brentex Mills for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice H. Easterling.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Delois Easterling of Rosenberg, Texas, Charles and Loraine Easterling of Hillsboro, Texas, and Ray and Beverly Easterling of Richmond, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and James Thim of Katy, Carolyn and Bill Ethridge of Brenham and Verna and Tommy Kaliszewski of Brenham; two sisters, Anne Eslinger of Houston and Agrippa Thomas of Mexia, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Olivia Scheu, Henry and Secilia Hendrickson and Leroy Hendrickson; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Brenham.

Melvin Williams Walton Jr.
Oct. 17, 1969 — April 16, 2000

Services for Melvin Williams Walton Jr., 30, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. C. W. Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary.

Mr. Walton died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Brazos County and was an auto body worker.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Bowles Walton of Bryan; three sons, Christopher Melvin Walton and Nelson Jamar Walton, both of Bryan, and Bryson Dreshawn Walton of Dallas; a stepson, William Earl Johnson of Bryan;a stepdaughter, Juanita Williams of Bryan; two-brothers, John David Williams and Ronald Keith Williams, both of Bryan; a stepbrother, Melvin Walton of Bryan; two sisters, Subrena Walton and Roshanda Walton, both of Bryan; his parents, Melvin and Ester Walton of Bryan; and a grandchild.

Van William Wehmeyer
April 24, 1923 — April 17, 2000

MADISONVILLE —Services for Van William Wehmeyer, 76, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the North Madison Church of Christ.

Bro. Lanier Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Madisonville City Cemetery.

J.M. Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wehymer died Monday at the Madison St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born in Anderson and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Adams Wehmeyer; two sons, Gus A. Wehmeyer and Donnie Gannaway, both of Madisonville; a daughter, Paula Staley of Madisonville; two brothers, A.P. Wehmeyer of College Station and Fred Wehmeyer of Austin; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Thomas Lamar Tate Sr.
Aug. 24, 1923 — April 18, 2000

Graveside services for Thomas Lamar Tate Sr., 76, are set for 10 a.m. Friday at National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mr. Tate died Tuesday at Veteran’s Hospital in Temple, Texas.

He was born in Wetumpka, Ala., and moved to Bryan at age 12. He attended Bryan schools before entering the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded during his service in France.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bryan. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as a Scoutmaster.
Survivors include five sons and three daughters-in-law, John David and Rhonda Tate of Conroe, Michael and Holly Tate of San Antonio, Paul and Priscilla Tate of Duncanville, Texas, Thomas Lamar Tate Jr. of Bryan and Jeffrey Tate of Bryan; two daughters, Linda Tate Trimble of Austin and Beverly Tate Clark of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Frank Antone Fridel
March 29, 1920 — April 19, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Frank Antone Fridel, 80, of Five Points Community near Hearne, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Hearne.

The Rev. Dana Altimore will officiate. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Mr. Fridel died Wednesday in Bryan.

He was born in Rye Community and was a postmaster in Hearne and Bryan. He attended Bryan High School and Texas A&M University. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a Baptist minister for 48 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Fridel of Hearne; one son, Derace Fridel of Tomball, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laurence and Suzan Langston of Allen, Texas, Lori Fridel of Fort Worth and Tim and Jenna Fridel Hairston of Hearne; one sister, Frances Webb of Bryan; and three grandchildren.

N.L. Tim McLeod
Aug. 28 1919 — April 18, 2000

AUSTIN — Services for N.L. Tim McLeod, 80, of Austin are set for 2 p.m. Friday at University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin.

The Rev. Dean Smith and the Rev. Lee McLeod will officiate. Burial will be in Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Cemetery.

Mr. McLeod was born in Trent, Texas, and had 10 older siblings. He attended Abilene Christian University and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, from which he was honorably discharged. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in veterinary medicine and practiced in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Burnya Mae “Bim” McLeod; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Timothy Lee and Judy McLeod of Salida, Colo., Don R. and Cathy McLeod of Austin, Kevin C. McLeod of Arkadelphia, Ark., Kelly T. and Trish McLeod of Austin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jake and Connie MacLeod of Frederick, Md., and Kim McLeod of Austin; and 18 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bread for a Hungry World c/o Richland Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth, Parker Henderson missionary c/o Lamesa Church of Christ in Lamesa, Texas, Foster Homes for Children in Stephenville, Texas, and Medina Children’s Home in Medina, Texas.

Heather Dawn Munsel
Aug. 10, 1974 — April 19, 2000

AUSTIN — Services for Heather Dawn Munsel, 25, of Austin are set for 3 p.m. Friday at Parmer Lane Baptist Church in Austin.

The Rev. Rick Spencer and the Rev. Greg Hill will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Ind.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Parmer Lane Baptist Church in Austin.

Ms. Munsel was born in Franklin, Ind., and was a secretary.

Survivors include her father and step-mother, Paul and Karen Munsel of Hearne; mother and step-father, Ed and Dora Hudgins of Austin; two brothers, Walter Munsel of Killeen, Texas, and Wil Munsel of Austin; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Bobbie Munsel of Hearne, Texas, Crystle Gilbert of Hearne and James and Sandy Hudgins Hughes of Austin.; and grandparents Cyril and Maerose Headlee of Shelbyville, Ind.

Memorials may be made to Lone Star Hospice in Austin and the youth group of Parmer Lane Baptist Church in Austin.

Walter Schroeder
July 5, 1927 — April 19, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Walter Schroeder, 72, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Donald Kasper of Trinity Lutheran Church of Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery in Anderson, Texas.

Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Schroeder died Wednesday morning in Navasota. He was born in Anderson and was a retired Texas Highway Department official.

Survivors include three brothers and one sister-in-law, Henry Schroeder of Port Arthur, Texas, Albin Schroeder of Nederland, Texas, and Oscar and Jenivee Schroeder of Beaumont, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Edwin Thane of Navasota; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Janice Berry Scott
Aug. 21, 1912 — April 19, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Janice Berry Scott, 87, of Huntsville are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Madisonville City Cemetery.

The Rev. Dick White will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Scott was born in Madisonville and lived much of her life in Houston. She graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown and the University of Texas. She taught in Angleton, Texas, where she retired.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Scott.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Jackie Tarter of Panama City, Panama; one granddaughter, Laura Lundley Tarter; and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl McKiver Creeks
Sept. 16, 1907 — April 18, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Pearl McKiver Creeks, 92, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem House of Blessing in Navasota.

The Rev. Charles Thompkins will officiate. Burial will be in Berryman Cemetery in Anderson, Texas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Creeks died Tuesday morning at Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born in Anderson and was a member of Christian Home Workers and Court of Calanthe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffery Creeks Sr.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Willie and Evelyn Jackson; two step-sons and one daughter-in-law, James Sr. and Betty Creeks of Houston, and Jeffery Creeks Jr. of Navasota; one daughter and son-in-law, Earnest and Mavis Branch of Navasota; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Jesse Hazel Crutchfield
Nov. 9, 1917 — April 20, 2000

Services for Jesse Hazel Crutchfield, 82, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. David Green of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park in Bryan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Crutchfield died Thursday morning at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Franklin, Texas, and was the former administrator of LaSalle Home for the Retired in downtown Bryan. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Bryan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ervin Crutchfield.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald “Jerry” Wayne and Gladys Crutchfield, William “Bill” Earl and Molly Crutchfield and James “Jimmy” Robert and Drucilla Crutchfield; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
