Nov. 2, 1950 — April 25, 2000

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Linda Biehle, 49, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Thorndale City
Cemetery in Thorndale.

The Rev. Ray Reed will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Ms. Biehle died Tuesday in Houston.

She was born in Cameron and lived in the Rockdale area for most of her life. She was a cashier at Wal-Mart in Rockdale and had worked as a nurse’s aide in numerous nursing homes and home health.

Survivors include her mother, Evelyn Pauline Biehle of Thorndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Mitch Stear of Rockdale; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas Edward and Barbara Biehle and Barry Wayne and Debra Biehle, all of Thorndale, and Larry Gene Biehle of Austin; and a sister, Wendy Gay Biehle of Arlington, Texas.

Fannie Mae Martin
Dec. 28, 1913 — April 27, 2000

CAMERON — Services for Fannie Mae Martin, 86, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Sunday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Rev. James E. Lafferty will officiate. Burial will be in the Milano Cemetery in Milano.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin died Thursday in the Cameron hospital.

She was born in Cooper, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erskine Martin.
Survivors include six sons, Doyle Martin, Billy Martin and Wallace Martin, all of Cameron, Bobby Martin of Rockdale, Johnny Martin of Pearland, Texas, and Thomas Martin of Houston; a daughter, Elizabeth BumGardner of Cameron; a brother, Benny Steele of Nebraska; two sisters, Jo Ann Millien and Olera Klatt, both of Cameron; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Vincent Allen Peck
April 11, 1912 — April 28, 2000

Services for Vincent Allen Peck, 88, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas.

Burial will be in Laurel Land Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grand Court in Bryan.

Mr. Peck died Friday.

He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., and had lived in Bryan since 1996. He was a past Regent of Seaside Council and a Connecticut Deputy Grand Regent and was retired after 38 years with the LTV Corporation. After retirement, he was a home builder in the Dallas area. He was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Cliff Temple Baptist Church and was a member of the First Baptist Church in College Station. He was a member of the Ukes of Walden Band.

Survivors include his wife, Marcie Lee Peck of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Peck and James M. Griffin of College Station; a brother, Robert H. Peck of Winter Haven, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Cliff Temple Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3770, Dallas, Texas 75208.

Cecil Anne Slafka
June 29, 1917 — April 26, 2000

BREMOND — Services for Cecil Anne Slafka, 82, of Bremond are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond.

The Rev. Jozef Musiol will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Arrangements are under the direction of Peiskee Funeral Home in Bremond.

Mrs. Slafka died Wednesday in the Bremond Nursing Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Bremond and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Rosary Society and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Slafka of Bremond; two sons, David Slafka of Hearne and Raymond Slafka of Bremond; a daughter and son-in-law, Bena and Jimmy Samford of Bremond; two brothers, Ike Lott Jr. of Bremond and Kie Lott of Houston; five sisters, her twin Louise Muzyka, Verna Wilganowski and Helen Wierzbicki, all of Bremond, Christine Bench of Houston and Gertrude Kuciemba of Conroe, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lucille Anna Sykes
March 21, 1899 — April 27, 2000

Graveside services for Lucille Anna Sykes, 101, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the College Station City Cemetery.

The Rev. Nicolas R.D. Dyke of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bryan will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sykes died Thursday in Sherwood Health Care, Inc.
She was born in New Orleans, La., and had lived in Bryan since 1942. She was a charter member of the Brazos Senior Citizens Association, Years for Profit Senior Center and the Retired Senior Volunteers Program of Brazos Valley. She attended St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril M. “Bill” Sykes.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sykes of Cottingham, England; Joyce Richardson and Shirley O’Dwyer, both of New Orleans.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

James Walton Walker
May 24, 1932 — April 27, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for James Walton Walker, 67, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

The Rev. Jeff Witcher will officiate. Burial will be in the Madisonville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Walker died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

He was born in Huntsville, Texas, and lived most of his life in Madisonville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and worked as a teacher and coach for the Madisonville School District and at one time owned and operated the Mobil Consignee in Madisonville and worked with the Alaskan Pipeline project. He was city secretary and city councilman for 10 years for the City of Madisonville and worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the records office of the Byrd Unit and was a rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Pyle Walker of Madisonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Pebbie Walker and Victor Rodgers of Loudan, Tenn.; a step-son, John Housman of Marietta, Ga.; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Kristye and Jeffrey Hinds of Charleston, S.C., and Diana and Richard Schultz of Temple, Texas; a sister, Peggy Drobinsky of Stillwater, Minn.; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Alice I. Fleming
Nov. 18, 1912 — April 29, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Alice I. Fleming, 87, of Austin are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Fleming died Saturday in Austin.

She was born in the Knobbs Community and was a former resident of Rockdale and McDade, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fleming.
Survivors include five nieces and a nephew.

Grace Frances Copeland Lyons Key
May 6, 1914 — April 30, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Grace Frances Copeland Lyons Key, 85, of Bedias are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedias Baptist Church in Bedias.

The Rev. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Key died Sunday at her home.

She was born in Lufkin, Texas, and was formerly of Houston.

She was a member of the Bedias Baptist Church and a former member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband,
Edward Seth Key Sr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard “Dick” and Barbara Lyons of Houston and Edward S. Jr. and Gaylynn Key of Willis, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Jeanine and Bill Jones of Somerville; a brother, Rev. Clyde N. Copeland of Bedias; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen L. Key
Dec. 1, 1908 — April 30, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Helen L. Key, 91, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Lawrence Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Black Jack Cemetery.

Mrs. Key died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Miles, Texas, and was retired from the Caldwell school district, where she taught in elementary and middle schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Caldwell Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Key.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Bruce and Emmcq Key of Devine, Texas, and Kenneth and Linda Key of Caldwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce M. and Bernice Jennings of Sheridan, Wyo.; a sister, Ruth Allday of Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Vallie Peschel
March 31, 1915 — April 29, 2000

ROSEBUD, Texas — Services for Vallie Peschel, 85, of Rosebud are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Rosebud.

The Rev. Alberic Lipinski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Burlington, Texas.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
Mrs. Peschel died Saturday in Crowley, Texas.

She was born in Bell County and lived most of her life in the Burlington and Rosebud area. She worked as a seamstress and cook, and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Peschel.
Survivors include two daughters, Jewel Dean Johnston of Crowley, Texas, and Cynthia Wiese of Bryan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Boyd Stephens
March 23, 1916 — April 30, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Boyd Stephens, 84, of the Gay Hill community are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home Chapel in Rockdale.

The Rev. Doug Springer of the Rockdale Full Gospel Church will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stephens died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Salty, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of the Salty and Gay Hill communities. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter and had worked for Coffield

Construction. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale and was on the board of directors for the Bartlett Electric Coop for 27 years. He was a supporter of the Milam County 4-H.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hirt Stephens.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Becky Stephens of Rockdale; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Pearl Seals of Mystic, Iowa, Peggy and Doug Ray of Ennis, Texas, and Deborah and Jimmie Mathews of Eddy, Texas; a sister, Daisy Tucker of Thorndale, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
