LYONS — Services for James Franklin, 88, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Church of Christ in Lyons, Texas.

Bro. Mack Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery in Lyons.

Visitation will be at Jones-Washington Funeral Home in Bryan from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Mr. Franklin died Sunday in Brenham.

He was born in Lyons. He was a retired barber and a member of Zion Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Nathalene Franklin of Somerville; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Wesley and Ruby Franklin of Somerville and Floyd and Pearl Franklin of Humble; one daughter, Jolean Hughes of Hartford, Conn.; three brothers, John W. Franklin of Temple, Texas, Joe Franklin Jr. of Somerville and Peter Roosevelt Franklin of Somerville; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Zion Church of Christ.

Frank P. Abate
Oct. 20, 1936 — May 6, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Frank P. Abate, 63, of Hearne are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne.

The Rev. John Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne from noon to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Abate died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

He was born in Robertson County. He attended Hearne High School, where he played football, basketball, track and tennis. He attended Durham Business College, and he was an insurance agent for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Lion’s Club in Hearne, the Salvation Army, Hearne City Council, Hearne Chamber of Commerce, the Hearne Heritage League and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Abate of Hearne; one son, Frank P. Abate Jr. of Hearne; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kimberly Abate and Bruce Oppermann of Lexington, Texas, Lynette Abate of Hearne and Gina Abate of Hearne; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Joe McNair of Bryan and Mary Jo and Tom Phillips of Austin; and one grandson.

Lucy Mary (Sadler) Stone
Aug. 7, 1900 — May 9, 2000

BEDIAS — Services for Lucy Mary (Sadler) Stone, 99, of of Bedias, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Bedias Baptist Church in Bedias.

Bro. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wedesnday at J.M Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Stone died Tuesday in Austin.

She was born in Bedias and was a member of Bedias Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Millard Stone.

Survivors include three sisters, Sybil Hyatt of Wharton, Texas, Mattye Carroll of Wharton and Pearl Thompson of Bedias; one daughter-in-law, Anita Yates of Pasadena, Texas; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Charlie Ann Weakley
Nov. 27, 1928 — May 8, 2000

Servies for Charlie Ann Weakley, 71, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Bruce Woods of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Richmond, Texas.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday.

Mrs. Weakley died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Hamlin, Texas, and lived in Bryan for nine years. She was a nurses aide at Crestview Retirement Home in Bryan for eight years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Weakley.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathie Weakley of Bryan and Linda and Billy Neeley of Wellington, Texas; one sister, Lucy Merle Speer of Victoria, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Emma Edwards Koerber
Dec. 28, 1937 — May 8, 2000

Services for Emma Edwards Koerber, 62, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Bill Magee of Northview Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in East Sandy Cemetery in New Waverly, Texas.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.

Mrs. Koerber died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Montgomery County, Texas, and was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of Northview Baptist Church in Bryan.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Victoria L. Henderson of Bryan and Debra and Bobby Luckie of Bryan; one brother, Jimmie Cooper of Houston; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lloyd V. Halbrooks
June 22, 1910 — May 10, 2000

ARLINGTON — Services for Lloyd V. Halbrooks, 89, of Arlington are set for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington.

Burial and graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in DeLeon Cemetery in DeLeon, Texas.

Mr. Halbrooks died Wednesday at Heartland Health Care Center in Bedford, Texas.

He was born in Beattie, Texas. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and taught at Central Church of Christ in Bryan. He taught at Bryan High School and Texas A&M University, and he owned a chicken hatchery for 25 years. He was a Realtor in Arlington.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Huddleston Halbrooks; one daughter and one son-in-law, Pat Halbrooks Scott and John Scott; one son-in-law, Wayne Miller; four sisters and two sons-in-law, Opal Ross, Bessie and J.T. Pugh, Jo and Bill Stroud and Lavoyce Elrod; four grandchildren and three grandchildren-in-law; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marsha Jennings Ellis Ullrich
May 20, 1948 — May 10, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Marsha Jennings Ellis Ullrich, 51, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Steve Ginn will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

Mrs. Ullrich died Wednesday.

She was born in Houston. She attended the Police Academy in San Antonio and worked for the Brenham Police Department as a corporal and a member of the Honor Guard. She married her husband, Jacob Ullrich, in 1997. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, hunting, fishing, crafts and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob Ullrich of Brenham; three daughters and one son-in-law, Rebecca Ellis of Austin, Jennifer Ellis of Austin and Nikki and Tom Wacker of Houston; her father, Howard L. Jennings of Somerville; one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah Jennings Farris and Patrick Farris of Houston; three grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.

Memorials may be made to Brenham Police Department Explorers Post 161.

Earnest Branch
Aug. 15, 1917 — May 7, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Earnest Branch, 82, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Salem House of Blessing in Navasota.

The Rev. Charles Thompkins of the Salem House of Blessing will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Branch died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Grimes County and was a member of the Salem House of Blessing, where he was chairman of the deacon board, superintendent of Sunday School and was a member of the senior choir.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis Branch of Navasota; a son, Jessie E. Charles; seven daughters and four sons-in-law, Earnest Jean and Leonard, Georgia Pearl and Thomas, Cathy and David, Edith and Michael, Jeraldine, Marilyn and Ethel; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Olga Lawrence
Aug. 15, 1911 — May 11, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Olga Lawrence, 88, of Snook are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Snook Brethren Church in Snook.

The Revs. Joseph Polasek and Henry Beseda of Snook Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will be in Snook Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Lawrence died Thursday in Bryan.

She was a lifetime resident of Snook and was a member of Snook Brethren Church. She operated the Lawrence Grocery Store in Snook from 1948 to 1995.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lawrence.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, LaNelle and Joe Junek of Tunis and Alice Faye Stein of Bryan; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Clem and Mary Lednicky of Lyons, Fred and Rita Lednicky of Temple, Texas, Adolph Lednicky of Porter, Texas, Alois and Effie Lednicky and Lee and Betty Lednicky, all of Houston; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lednicky of Snook; and a grandson.

Mary Humphrey Reddie
Dec. 26, 1944 — May 10, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Mary Humphrey Reddie, 55, of Calvert are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Independence Baptist Church in Calvert.

Burial will be in the Beauty Rest Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Chapel in Hearne.

Mrs. Reddie died Wednesday.

Stelma Lorena Black
Nov. 19, 1907 — May 13, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Stelma Lorena Black, 92, of the Willow Creek Community of Robertson County are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Bald Prairie Church of Christ in Bald Prairie, Texas.

Burial will be in the Bald Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.
Mrs. Black died Saturday in Falls County, Texas.

She was a lifelong resident of the Willow Creek Community and was a member of the Bald Prairie Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Elma Black.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Zelda and Billy Turner of Bald Prairie and Eva Mae Toomer of Willow Creek; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
