John U. Parker
May 14, 1910 — June 23, 2000

SARASOTA, Fla. — Private memorial services for John U. Parker, 90, of Venice, Fla., will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of At Peace Cremation Services, Inc. in Sarasota.
Mr. Parker died Friday.

He was born in Whitewright, Texas, and had lived in Venice since 1993. He formerly lived in Hot Springs, Ark. He was retired as chief of safety for the Exxon Corp. He graduated from Texas A&M University and served as a colonel in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Venice/Nokomis United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sally L. Parker of Venice; two step-daughters, Leslie Cook of Petaluma, Calif., and Laurie Dill of San Francisco, Calif.; a step-son, Stewart McBride of New York; two nephews; and a niece.

Memorials may be made to the Texas A&M Foundation, 505 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840.

David Bruce Wagner
Sept. 16, 1952 — June 25, 2000

Services for David Bruce Wagner, 47, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in College Station.

The Rev. Michael Hafer of Holy Cross Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.
Mr. Wagner died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Houston and had lived in College Station since 1990. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University and the University of Texas Law School. He was a member of the State Bar and the Texas A&M Former Student Association.

He was an attorney from 1977 to 1993, and served as the city attorney in Borger, Texas, and Stinnett, Texas. He served as an associate judge of the College Station Municipal Court and as municipal judge for the city of Bryan. He also served as the Democratic County Chairman of Hutchison County. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he was an elder and served in many offices.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Wagner of College Station; a son, Joshua Wagner of College Station; a daughter, Jennifer Wagner of College Station; his mother, Lawanda Wagner of Houston; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Mark Wagner and Steve and Lesia Wagner, all of Houston; grandmother, Mildred Beals of Borger, Texas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfonso and Hanna Holguin of San Antonio; four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, Mark and Rebecca Holguin of Temple, Texas, Theresa and Will Fisher and Stephen and Lisa Holguin, all of San Antonio, Carol Holguin of San Diego, Calif., and Paul and Tricia Holguin of Houston; and numerous other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.

Ervin Townsell
Jan. 21, 1912 — June 26, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Services for Ervin Townsell, 88, of Crockett, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Two-Mile United Methodist Church in Leona, Texas.

The Rev. S.L. Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Two-Mile Paradise Cemetery.

Mr. Townsell died Monday at Crockett Care Center.

He was born in Centerville. He attended Samuel Houston High School in Huntsville, Texas, and was a member of Two-Mile United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by one wife, Pearl Adkisson Townsell.

Survivors include his wife, Ever Lean Townsell of Madisonville; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhodena Pearl and Christopher Alan Brooks of Madisonville; one brother-in-law, Jim Fortson of Centerville; one grandchild; one nephew; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Levita Boles Renfrow
May 25, 1936 — June 26, 2000

MADISONVILLE — A memorial service for Levita Boles Renfrow, 64, of Madisonville is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

The Rev. Jeff Witcher will officiate.

Mrs. Renfrow died Monday at Madison St. Joseph Health Center in Madisonville.

She was born in Fort Bragg, N.C., and lived in Madisonville for 16 years. She was a retired oil company worker. She owned Levita’s Gift Shop in Deer Park, Texas, and Heart to Heart Florist in Madisonville. She sponsored a little league softball team and the Madisonville Future Farmers of America program. She taught adult education classes at Madisonville High School and worked for the Madison County Fair Association.

She was preceded in death by one husband, I.C. Burrow.

Survivors include her ex-huxband, Dub Renfrow of Madisonville; one sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Dan Weaver of Houston; one nephew; and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to BVRC Stroke Group Victims Aid at 1318 Memorial Dr., Bryan, Texas 77802.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home.

Bobbie Jean Schumanski
Jan. 16, 1974 — June 26, 2000

JEWETT — Graveside services for Bobbie Jean Schumanski, 26, of Jewett are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Concord Cemetery in Leon County.

The Rev. Ray Payne of Ephesus Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ricks Funeral Home in Jewett.

Ms. Schumanski died Monday.

She was born in Houston. She was a homemaker and graduated from Leon High School in 1992.

Survivors include one son, Clayton Ray Gorman of Freestone, Texas; two daughters, Raygan DeLana Gorman of Freestone and Stormy Rayanna Gorman of Freestone; her mother, Linda Schumanski Skinner of Freestone; one sister, Robbie Schumanski of Freestone; her grandmother, Pauly Cannon of Porter, Texas; two nieces; and two nephews.

George Bodde
Dec. 11, 1921 — June 26, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Services for George Bodde, 78, of Buffalo are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.

The Rev. Larry Ashley of First Baptist Church in Centerville will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Leon County.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bodde died Monday in a Madisonville hospital.

He was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a diesel truck mechanic in Houston and a member of Teamsters Local 988.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Margarette Bodde of Buffalo; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Huey Hayes of Houston; one step-daughter, Arleene Hough of Beaumont; four sisters, Katie Kor of Marshall, Minn., Ann Kitchen of Souix Falls, S.D., Minnie Grebin of Souix Falls and Gertie Lupkes of Rock Rapids; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edie Orene Stinecipher Douthitt
Jan. 26, 1908 — June 26, 2000

BEDIAS — Services for Edie Orene Stinecipher Douthitt, 92, of Smith County, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Iola Missionary Baptist Church in Iola, Texas.

The Rev. Kenneth Klimple of Northshore Baptist Church in Lyons will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Grimes County.

Visitation will be at Southern Heritage Funeral Home from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.

Mrs. Douthitt died Monday.

She was born in Smith County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Goble Douthitt Sr.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bill Jr. and Evelyn Goble Douthitt of Pasadena, Texas; one daughter, Syble Hauptmann of Iola; one sister, Mary Kirkpatrick of Orange, Texas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elna Lange Morgan-Murphy
Oct. 30, 1907 — June 26, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Elna Lange Morgan-Murphy, 92, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

The Rev. Earl McIntyre and the Rev. Lawrence Bade will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Mrs. Murphy died Monday at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Gay Hill Community in Washington County. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clifton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Newton Morgan and Barney M. Murphy.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billie and Brenda Morgan of Brenham and Wilmer and Becky Morgan of Bullard, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Josephine Frisch Conoley
Dec. 8, 1913 — June 26, 2000

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Josephine Frisch Conoley, 86, of Thorndale, Texas, are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Conoley Cemetery.

The Rev. Robert Sauer of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thrall, Texas, will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held during visitation time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Conoley died Monday in Corpus Christi.

She was born in Taylor, Texas, and was a housewife. She attended Thrall High School and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thrall, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander H. Conoley.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sharon Conoley of Roseberg, Ore.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Renatta Townsend of Corpus Christi, Polly and Lester Ross of Houston and Hildegarde Ehlert of Brenham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jo Barrett Griffin
Aug. 11, 1926 — June 27, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Jo Barrett Griffin, 73, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Madisonville City Cemetery.

The Rev. Dean Ferguson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Griffin died Tuesday in College Station.

She was born in Limestone County, Texas. She was an administrator at Sam Houston State University.

Survivors include her husband, Harold D. Griffin of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Louise Griffin of Bryan and David and Becky Griffin of Baytown, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Nita and Bill Wakefield of Madisonville; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Nellie Mae Horn Jefferson
Sept. 26, 1949 — June 22, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Nellie Mae Horn Jefferson, 50, of Houston are set for noon Thursday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas.

Burial will be in Lily Island Cemetery in Corrigan.

Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Jefferson died Thursday at East Houston Columbia Hospital.

She was born in Camden, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie Jefferson of Houston; two sons, Andre Jefferson of Houston and Eric Jefferson of Houston; one daughter, La Tosha Jefferson of Houston; four brothers, Marlvin Horn of Houston, Howard Horn of Houston, Ben Horn Jr. of Chester, Texas, and Robert Horn of Navasota; three sisters, Beatrica Kindel of Houston, Alice Gillis of Apple Spring, Texas, and Bobbie Jean Creeks of Navasota; and four grandchildren.
