John Darrel Hembrough
June 25, 1941 — July 24, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for John Darrel Hembrough, 59, of Minerva, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Revs. Larry Holden, Arther Fray and Randy Newberry will officiate. Burial will be in the Minerva Cemetery in Minerva.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hembrough died Monday in the Christopher House Hospice in Austin.

He was born in Illinois and formerly lived in Austin. He was employed by the city of Austin Electric Utility Department for 31 1/2 years and served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Eudie Hembrough of Minerva; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jeanette Hembrough of Austin and Paula and Tommy Kaderka of Round Rock, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sandy Hembrough of Illinois; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Harold Proffit, Marilyn and Maurice Brubaker and Carmen and Eddy Daniels, all of Illinois; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Billy Jack Kelly
Sept. 10, 1939 — July 25, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Billy Jack Kelly, 60, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville.

Lanier Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Burrows Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Kelly died Tuesday.

He was born in the Jenkins community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Kelly; and a son, Billy Keith Kelly.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Henry Cool of Madisonville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Travis and Frankie Kelly and Mitchell Kelly, all of Madisonville; three sisters, Maggie Ward of Madisonville, Mary Alice Johnson of Bryan and Margie Robinson of Midway, Texas; three brothers, Lloyd Kelly Jr. of Buffalo, Joe Kelly and Franklin “Bo” Kelly, both of Madisonville; and six grandchildren.

Bernard Massie
Sept. 16, 1912 — July 24, 2000

Memorial services for Bernard Massie, 87, of Steep Hollow are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Bob Richers, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Massie died Monday at his home.

He was born in Hamilton County, Texas, and lived in Brazos County since 1943. He was retired after 37 years with Allen Academy and helped open the Bryan branch of Blinn College. He was a dean at Blinn until his second retirement. He served in the Army Red Cross during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Massie of Steep Hollow; a son, David Bernard Massie of Austin; two daughters, Judith Telford of San Marcos, Texas, and Dinah Massie of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Blinn Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3060, Bryan, Texas 77805.

Trey Marcus Richardson
Nov. 4, 1983 — July 24, 2000

NORMANGEE — Services for Trey Marcus Richardson, 16, of Normangee are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Normangee.

The Rev. Sam Manning of the United Pentecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Gum Springs Cemetery in Flynn, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Trey died Monday as the result of an auto accident.

He was born in Freeport, Texas, and lived in Normangee for 10 years. He was a student at Normangee High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Survivors include his mother, Janette Lagravier of Normangee; two brothers, Clint Bell of Normangee and Michael Wayne Richardson of Brazoria, Texas; grandparents, Tom and Barbara Crouch and Jessie Douthitt, all of Flynn, Texas, and John and Ruth Richardson of Brazoria.

Jacquelyn Ann McMurry
Sept. 13, 1961 — July 24, 2000

Services for Jacquelyn Ann McMurry, 38, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Lee Chapel United Methodist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. U.L. Green of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Settlement Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Miss McMurry died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, LaDarreon TaRay McMurry and Damien Shamir McMurry, both of Bryan; a daughter, Marietta Antoinette McMurry of Bryan; five brothers, Douglas L. McMurry Jr., William H. McMurry, Stanley B. McMurry Sr., Sidney E. McMurry and Willie J. McMurry Sr., all of Bryan; five sisters, Gwendolyn J. McMurry, Jerry N. McGee, Beverly J. McMurry, Ruthie M. McMurry and Renetta L. McMurry, all of Bryan; and her father, Douglas L. McMurry Sr. of Bryan.

Rosie Gonzales Turnine
Feb. 4, 1947 — July 24, 2000

Services for Rosie Gonzales Turnine, 53, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Daniel Duron will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to the time of the services Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Turnine died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Brazos County and had lived in Bryan since 1986. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan.

Survivors include four sons, Jessie Abad, Petronello Morino, Toney Gonzales Morino and Moses Morino, all of Bryan; three daughters, Sally Ann Zuniga, Ulliza Rosales and Minnie Castillo, all of Bryan; a brother, Richard Espinoza of Bryan; two sisters, Stella Artega and Irene Sotello, both of Bryan; and her mother, Louisa Espinoza of Bryan.

Elsie Niemeyer Buro
Dec. 1, 1907 — July 27, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Elsie Niemeyer Buro, 92, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church in Berlin, Texas.

The Rev. Roger Semmler will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Buro died Thursday in the Brenham Rest Home.

She was born in Prairie Hill and was a member of Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church. She was retired from Brentex Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Buro.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Wieghat of Brenham; a sister, Lillie Gaskamp; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Alvina Niemeyer, Lenord and Allyne Buro and Alvira Drews; five grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin.

Herman Monroe Cochran
Oct. 1, 1919 — July 25, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Herman Monroe Cochran, 80, of Calvert are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Calvert.

The Revs. Jeff Riley of the First Baptist Church, Bill Thompson, L.H. Manning and Todd Peavy will officiate. Burial will be in the Kaufman City Cemetery in Kaufman, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Cochran died Tuesday in the VA Hospital in Marlin, Texas.

He was born in Milam County and had lived in Calvert for 28 years. He was the owner of Cochran Supermarket and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Calvert. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cochran of Calvert; a son and daughter-in-law, Travis R. and Elizabeth Cochran of Calvert; a daughter, Jan Manning of Calvert; three brothers, Howard Cochran of New Caney, Texas, Wilson Cochran of Kaufman and Dewson Cochran of Rosser, Texas; three sisters, Elizabeth Rogers of Kaufman, Martha Lou Stanfield of Chandler, Texas, and Margie Cagle of Rosser; and five grandchildren.

Paul LeRoy Jasper
March 4, 1918 — July 26, 2000

Memorial services for Paul LeRoy Jasper, 82, of College Station will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Jasper died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Cokeville, Pa., and had lived in College Station for five years. He was retired as a laborer with General Motors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Jasper.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Sharon Jasper of College Station; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Kathleen Trim Smith
Sept. 6, 1953 — July 26, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Kathleen Trim Smith, 46, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the Lynn Grove United Methodist Church in Lynn Grove.

The Rev. Melissa Martin of Lynn Grove United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview - White Hall Cemetery in White Hall.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Smith died Wednesday in Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas, and was a counselor for M.H.M.R. She was a Methodist.

Survivors include her husband, T.W. Smith of Navasota; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Shelly Phillips of Highlands, Texas, and Billy Phillips of Thicket, Texas; two daughters, Michelle McVickers of Houston and Amy Phillips of Navasota; a brother, Harold D. Trim of League City, Texas; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Karen and Mike Ripple, Pamala and Tony Lagan and Barbara Romazewski, all of Pasadena, and Cynithy and Ron Allsbrooks of Coldspring, Texas; her mother, Marjorie Trim of Deer Park, Texas; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bonnie Wait
March 25, 1927 — July 25, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Bonnie Wait, 73, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in White Hall, Texas.

Mrs. Wait died Tuesday in Tomball Regional Hospital.

She was born in Adair, Okla., and had lived in Navasota for a year. She was a retired nurse’s aid.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Bonnie Carter Brown of Oil Town, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Brown and Paul T. Ford of Navasota; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
