Feb. 13, 1921 — Sept. 17, 2000

Services for Concetta Santana, 79, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan. The Rev. Steve Kana will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Santana died Sunday at her home. She was an owner and operator of a grocery store. She had been a member of St. Anthony Altar Society and St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Santana of Spring, Texas, Sam and Nancy Santana of El Paso; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosie and Paul Ponzio of Bryan, Lucille and Gene Beger of Houston; and six grandchildren.

Angie Weido
March 4, 1936 — Sept. 18, 2000

Services for Angie Weido, 64, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Steve Kana and Deacon Bill Scarmardo will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

A rosary will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the the funeral home.

Mrs. Weido died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Highbank, Texas. She worked for Bailey Oxygen Tool Company. She had been a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jody and Kelly Weido of Bryan; a daughter, Jacque Weido of Bryan; a sister and brother-in-law, Providence and Tony Lombardo of Marlin, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Laurence Howard Earhart
Sept. 14, 1935 — Sept. 18, 2000

Services for Laurence Howard Earhart, 65, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Covenant Family Church in College Station. The Rev. Danny Green will officiate. Burial will be in College Station City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Mr. Earhart died Monday at his home.

He was born in Stuttgart, Ark. He was a truck driver for Alenco and Reliant from 1971 to his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Men’s Club at Covenant Family Church. He served as an usher and was also a member of the Covenant Family Church. He was in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Earhart of College Station; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Patricia and Mike Tippitt of Bryan, Karren and Jerry Landers of College Station, Tammy White of Spring, Texas, Kym and James Williams of Timpson, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, John David and Peggy Earhart of Denton, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Bill Foster of Pine Bluff, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and close family.

Emma Isbell Boles
Sept. 20, 1914 - Sept. 19, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Emma Isbell Boles, 85, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nobles Funeral Chapel. Dr. J.W.L. Adams (retired) of Bryan and Rev. Jim Stevens (interim pastor) for First Baptist Church in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Family will be present Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Boles died Tuesday at Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Iola. She retired from the former Navasota First National Bank. She had been the past president of VFW #4006 Women’s Auxiliary and worked as a volunteer for many years with the American Cancer Society.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Navasota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Boles.

Survivors include three brothers and sisters-in-law, Truman and Frances Isbell of Madisonville, George and Margaret Isbell of Ennis, Buck and Virginia Isbell of Washington; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita Tomlin of San Antonio, Doris and Coree Wren of Washington, Marilyn and Don Jay of Austin; 16 nieces, and nephews and numerous other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Mary Hill Davis State Missions Offering at First Baptist Church in Navasota, 301 Church Street.

Billy Burke Fleshman
May 7, 1935 - Sept. 20, 2000

CAMERON — A memorial service for Billy Burke Fleshman, 65, of Cameron is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron. The Rev. James E. Lafferty will officiate.

Mr. Fleshman died Wednesday at a Cameron hospital.

He was born in Glen Daniel, W. Va., and he was a retired steelworker at Alcoa.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Fleshman of Cameron; three sons, Geno Fleshman, Sr. of El Paso, Edward Fleshman of Cameron, Buck Fleshman of Rogers; and six grandchildren.

John C. Houston, III
June 15, 1955 - Sept. 18, 2000

HOUSTON — Services for John C. Houston, III, 45, of Houston are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Fred G. Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jones-Washington Mortuary.

Mr. Houston died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

He was employed by the City of Bryan. He was a 1974 graduate of Bryan High School. He had been a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dian Houston of Houston, a son, John C. Houston IV of Houston; two brothers, Reggie Houston of Austin, Steven Houston of Bryan; two sisters, Michelle Houston Caldwell and Patsy R. Houston Daniels, both of Bryan; his mother, Patsy Houston of Bryan, a mother-in-law, Ethel Caldwell of Bryan; five nieces and two nephews.

Ida Rudell Struck Braun
April 2, 1918 - Sept. 20, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Ida Rudell Struck Braun, 82, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton. The Rev. Brian Bauer of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Braun died Wednesday in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in the Rehburg area near Burton. She was a homemaker, babysitter, and housekeeper. Mrs. Braun was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale since 1954.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Louis Braun of Rockdale, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Braun of Scottsville, Ky.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lois and Wilbert Noak of Round Top and Elaine Mayo of Waco; one brother, Marvin Struck of Burton; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Richard Paul Harris
May 22, 1935 - Sept. 20, 2000

Richard Paul Harris, 65, of Bryan died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Harris was born in Franklin. He was an environmental consultant. He was a member of the American Legion, Earl Graham Post #159, and an avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited. He graduated with a master’s degree in range science from Texas A&M University. He was a private in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Katherine Harris of Bryan; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Teri Harris of Corpus Christi, Steven Harris of Dallas, Matthew Harris of Irving, Scott and Jessica Harris of Farmersville; three daughters, Sheri Risher of Irving, Melinda Stone of Mission, Susan Harris of Irving; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Margie Harris of Austin; David and Joyce Harris of Humble; 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited in care of 816 Vine St., Bryan, 77802.

Lena Mae Farris
May 10, 1916 - Sept. 18, 2000

Washington — Services for Lena Mae Farris, 84, of Washington are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Washington. The Rev. Robert Marshall of St. Matthews Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.
Mrs. Farris died Monday at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Washington County and was a business owner. She was on the Usher Board at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, also a member of Heriones of Jericho Rising Star #167.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Murphy.

Survivors include a sister, Frankie K. Neal of Austin; one granddaughter and several grandsons.

Ernest Paul Hotard
July 25, 1941 - Aug. 24, 2000

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Ernest Paul Hotard, 59, of Peachtree City, Ga. (formerly of Bryan) died Aug. 24 in Bosnia.

Mr. Hotard was born in Bryan and attended Stephen F. Austin High School. He was a 1965 graduate of Texas A&M University. He served two years in Vietnam as a Green Beret. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He served two tours in South Korea as well as other duty posts. He retired as a colonel in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda, of Peachtree, Ga.; a daughter, Paula Hotard of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a step-daughter, Jennifer Phillips of Portland, Ore.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert. J. and Mona Hotard of College Station; Commander [ret.] and Mrs. William. C. Hotard of Whidby Island, Wash.; and John and Susan Hotard of Fort Worth.

Memorials may be made to American Veterans National Services Foundation, 4687 Forbes, Lanham, Md. 20706-9961.

Stella Gray
Nov. 24, 1897 - Sept. 19, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Stella Gray, 102, of Franklin are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at South New Hope Baptist Church in Franklin. Burial will be in North-South Cemetery in Franklin.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Robertson Funeral Chapel in Hearne, 901 W. Brown St.

Mrs. Gray died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Franklin. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a grandchild in Fort Worth.

William T. ‘Billy’ Nowak
March 2, 1959 - Sept. 21, 2000

COOK’S POINT — Services for William T. “Billy” Nowak, 41, of Cook’s Point are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell. The Rev. Lawrence Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Cook’s Point Cemetery.Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Nowak died Thursday in Caldwell.

He was an accountant and had retired from Texas A&M University. He was a member of the Brethren Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elise Nowak of Caldwell.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of donor’s choice.

Louis C. Fridel
Nov. 15, 1929 — Sept. 21, 2000

Services for Louis C. Fridel, 70, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Fridel died Thursday in St. Joseph Skilled Nursing Center.

He was born in the Smetana community and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 159. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the Age Managers. He was retired after 23 years in the food service department at Texas A&M University. He played in a band, “The Silver Jackets,” in the 1940s along with his father, brother and uncle and also wrote music.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Fridel of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark and Roxanne Fridel of Houston and Mike Fridel of Bryan; a daughter, Lynette Fridel of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sherry Fridel of Millican and William and Louann Fridel of Houston; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Ted and Mildred Meiller of Bryan, Charles and Eve Meiller of Greenvalley, Ariz., and Edward Meiller of Elmhurst, Ill.; an uncle and aunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund, the St. Joseph Catholic Church Stained Glass Window Fund or to a charity of choice.
