Bryant V. ‘Duck’ Hodge
Oct. 19, 1913 — Sept. 23, 2000

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Bryant V. “Duck” Hodge, 86, of Thorndale are set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.

The Rev. Larry Griffith of the First Baptist Church of Thorndale will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Hodge died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Lott, Texas, and had lived in Thorndale for 47 years. He worked for Alcoa in Rockdale for 20 years, and was a farmer.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thorndale and the Thorndale VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hodge of Thorndale; a son, Leslie Joe Hodge of Thorndale; a daughter, Alma Gean Baccus of Del Valle; a sister, Gertrude Barham of Mississippi; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Betty Jeanne Alfonte Franze
April 26, 1922 — Sept. 22, 2000

Services for Betty Jeanne Alfonte Franze, 78, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Nicolas R.D. Dyke will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Franze died Friday in Bryan.

She was born in Columbus, Ga., and was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. She was a field agent for U.S. Army Intelligence during World War II. She was a musician and composer and was a church organist. She helped organize the first band booster club at Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan.

She was a charter member and past president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the William Scott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary to Post 159, member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4692 and a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Survivors include her husband, R.F. “Sonny” Franze; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Debbie Franze of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ron Winn of Bryan; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Selma Schoeneman
Aug. 25, 1917 — Sept. 23, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Selma Schoeneman, 83, of Snook are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Lyons United Church of Christ in Lyons.

The Rev. Darrin Holub will officiate. Burial will be in Giesenschlag Cemetery in Snook.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schoeneman died Saturday in Somerville.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lyons. She worked with the Snook School cafeteria and also with the Snook Bakery.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Marie Schoeneman of Snook; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Clara Ruth Martin of Huntsville, Texas, Georgia and Richard Kovar and Evelyn and Jerry Vavra, all of Snook, Barbara and Lawrence Charanza of Bryan and Janet and James Spears of Somerville; two brothers, Otto Dworsky of Livingston, Texas, and Albert Dworsky of Navasota; a sister, Olga Butcher of Livingston; 12 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Lyons United Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice Brazos Valley.

James Lee Foreman
Nov. 28, 1956 — Sept. 23, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for James Lee Foreman, 43, of Lexington, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Faith Temple Church in Lexington.

The Rev. Gary Nance will officiate. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Foreman died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Giddings, Texas, and had lived in Lexington for 34 years. He was a 1977 graduate of Lexington High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation. He served 23 years in the Army and Army Reserves and retired as a staff sergeant in May of this year. While in the Army, he served at various bases in the United States and overseas and received numerous medals and ribbons. He was also a surveyor’s helper.

Survivors include two sons, James Lee Foreman of Lexington and Giller Foreman of the Philippines; two daughters, Roslynn Bates and Dynel Foreman, both of Lexington; his parents, Dorothy E. Rutland of Lexington and Waymon W. and Elda Clare of Caldwell; grandparents, Opal Clare of Lexington and Mary and Bob Payne of Rockdale; a brother and sister-in-law, Darrell Clare and Shanna Chesson of Lexington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbie and Charles Bank of Lexington and Sharon and Bob Cornelius of Rockdale; and a grandchild.

John Phillip Hansen
July 6, 1950 — Sept. 22, 2000

Memorial services for John Phillip Hansen, 50, of Bryan are set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tampico Restaurant in Bryan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Hansen died Friday at his home.

He was born in San Benito, Texas, and had lived in Bryan since 1978. He was a truck driver for T.D. Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Deere Hansen of Bryan; a son, Phillip Hansen of Austin; four brothers, Doug Hansen of San Benito, Dan Hansen of College Station, Paul Hansen of Seattle and Mark Hansen of Athens, Texas; a sister, Nita Brumbaugh of Levittsburg, Ohio; his mother, Doris Hansen of San Benito; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Christian School, 1815 North 7th Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550.

Robert S. Knight
July 26, 1924 — Sept. 22, 2000

FORT WORTH — Services for Dr. Robert S. Knight, 76, of Fort Worth are set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Worth.

Burial will be in Greenwood Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dr. Knight died Friday at his ranch in Bosque County.

He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1946. He co-owned Southside Veterinary Clinic from 1949 until he retired in 1983. After his retirement, he ranched in Bosque County. He was a member of the Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Association. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Knight of Fort Worth; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim and Cindy Knight of Saginaw, Mich., Steve and Kaleen Knight of Whitefish, Mont., Bill Knight of Bryan and Richard Knight of Fort Worth; and five grandchildren.

Agustin Montoya Ruiz
April 9, 1948 — Sept. 23, 2000

Services for Agustin Montoya Ruiz, 52, of Bryan will be held in Pedregoso, Zacatecas, Mexico, at a later date.

Burial will be in Cementerio Delacruz.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ruiz died Saturday in College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Loreto, Mexico, and had lived in Bryan for 25 years. He was employed as a grounds maintenance worker for the College Station Independent School District. He was a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Juana Ruiz of Bryan; three sons, Carlos Valentine Ruiz, Agustin Ruiz Jr. and Santiago Ruiz, all of Bryan; two daughters, Emilia Dolores Ruiz and Maria Victoria Ruiz, both of Bryan; two brothers, Jesus Ruiz and Florencio Ruiz, both of Mexico; and two sisters, Genoveva Alvarado and Cruz Silva, both of Mexico.

Travis J. Parker
Nov. 23, 1913 — Sept. 25, 2000

Services for Travis J. Parker, 86, of Bryan are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Nicolas R.D. Dyke of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will officiate. A private family burial service will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Parker died Monday at his home.

He was born in Oklahoma City, served in the U.S. Navy and lived in Bryan for 65 years. He was retired as a professor emeritus with the geology department at Texas A&M University. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and was a fellow of the Geological Society of America. He was Episcopalian.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Reistle Holliday Parker of Bryan; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Hal M. and Toni Holliday of Oklahoma City and Carl H. and Courtney Holliday of Dallas; and five stepgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or the Texas A&M University geology department.

William Adams
Aug. 12, 1916 — Sept. 20, 2000

CAMERON — Services for William Adams, 84, of San Bernardino, Calif., are set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of the Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Rev. Robert Glenn will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Adams died Wednesday in a San Bernardino hospital.

He was born in Cameron and lived in California for 30 years. He lived most of his life in Cameron and was a retired farm laborer.

Survivors include a son; and a sister, Alice Moody of Channing, Texas.

Anna K. Berger
Sept. 14, 1904 — Sept. 24, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Anna K. Berger, 96, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Louis S. Sikorski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Berger died Sunday in Canterbury Villa of Navasota.

She was a lifelong resident of Anderson and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Berger.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Louis Martinets of Lancaster, Texas; a sister, Agnes Hensler of Carthedge, Ind.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ruth Orrilla Culwell
Sept. 24, 1912 — Sept. 25, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Services for Ruth O. Culwell, 88, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville.

The Revs. Wayne McNeill of Redland Baptist Church in Centerville and Donnie Foster of Faith Baptist Church in Madisonville will officiate. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Culwell died Monday.

She was born in Denver and lived in Madisonville the last several years. She was a former resident of Centerville, where along with her husband, she operated the Town Cafe and later the Centerville Washateria, and took care of the Centerville Cemetery. She worked as a technician in the electronics industry in California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Culwell.

Survivors include a daughter, Doreen Douglas of Glendora, Calif.; a son, Donald O. Pettit of California; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a niece.
