Oct. 18, 1914 — Sept. 28, 2000

Memorial services for Sally Kelly Curry, 85, of Bryan are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Bob Richers of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan will officiate. Inurnment will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the Blue Ridge Baptist Cemetery in Falls County, Texas.

Mrs. Curry died Thursday in College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Falls County and had lived in Bryan for 20 years. She was a homemaker and was a Methodist. She was a member of the Neighborly Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Curry.

Survivors include two sons, Hal Curry of Reagan, Texas, and Charles Curry of Richmond, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Carl Bussell of Bryan; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Curry of Richmond, Va.; a foster sister, Erna Leutwyler of Austin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Fred C. Ferrara
Jan. 26, 1920 — Sept. 28, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Fred C. Ferrara, 80, of Hearne are set for 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne.

The Rev. Scott Mikkelson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Ferrara died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Hearne and was a life member of the Robertson County Fair Association and the Hearne Heritage League. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and earned his 50-year pin in both the Knights of Columbus and Lions Club International.
He was a member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and was a retired member of the Hearne VFD. He served as a Hearne school board member, a Hearne city
councilman and was president of Little League for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Ferrara of Hearne; three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Bill Harroff of Garland, Texas, Bernedette and Gary Williams of Sylva, N.C., and Madeline and James Zeig of Hearne; a sister, Rosa Lee Roffino of Houston; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Frances Freeland
Jan. 12, 1908 — Sept. 28, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Frances Freeland, 92, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

Jim Pye, grandson-in-law, will officiate. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Freeland died Thursday in Houston.

She was born in Maysfield and had lived in Houston for six years. She was a former resident of Fairfield and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances B. Hofford of Houston; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Corine Goosby
April 10, 1910 — Sept. 27, 2000

Services for Corine Goosby, 90, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday in Ruby’s Chapel of Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

The Rev. Raymond Perry of New Testament Outreach will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A wake service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goosby died Wednesday in College Station Medical Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was a member of Mt. Enterprise Primitive Baptist Church. She was retired.

Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Willie B. Collins of Oklahoma City, Curtis Goosby and Claven Goosby, both of Bryan; two daughters, Lenora Eason of Houston and Lorene Jones of Bryan; a brother, L.C. Hill of Garland, Texas; a sister, Alberta Stouton of Bryan; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Sherman Ray Green
Sept. 8, 1925 — Sept. 28, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Sherman Ray Green, 75, of Glen Rose are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gay Hill.

The Rev. Virgil Pecht will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Green died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Celeste, Texas, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and was a food broker.

Survivors include his wife, Callie Bowers Green of Glen Rose; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Cheryl Green of Dothansen, Ala.; three daughters, Sharon Kay Baker of Round Top, Cindy Lawson of College Station and Lindy Honerkamp of Austin; a step-son, Billy Don Craig of Iowa Park; a half-sister and brother-in-law, Marie and T.J. Lindsay of Greenville, Texas; eight grandchildren; three aunts; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill.

Buck Porter
March 28, 1925 — Sept. 29, 2000

Services for Buck Porter, 75, of Calvert are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Jeff Riley of the First Baptist Church of Calvert will officiate. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Porter died Friday at his home.

He was born in Minter, Texas, and had lived in Calvert for many years. He was retired as a sales associate for Bossier Chrysler — Dodge. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Calvert and served as a private in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy H. Porter of Calvert; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Lynda Henson of Atlanta, Charlotte and Jerry Davis of Denton, Texas, Dianne and Gary Porter Welch of Bryan, Kay and Jim Gwaltney of Waco, Stacey and Morey Price of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and Tina and Johnny Schultea of Spring, Texas; four stepdaughters and three sons-in-law, Deborah and Bill Stanford of The Woodlands, Texas, Donna and Jack Young and Susan Binford, all of Bryan, and Janice and John Ed Marsh of Sweeny, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Hilda Porter of El Paso; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Linnie Ray of Kerrville, Texas, Lelia Pratt of Bryan, Helen Jones of Midland, Irene Keener of Fort Worth and Virginia and A.D. McAllister of Fayetteville, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.

Mabrey Guthrie Barmore
June 29, 1916 — Sept. 29, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Mabrey Guthrie Barmore, 84, of Rockdale are set for 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Morris Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barmore died Friday in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in Smithville, Texas, and had lived in Rockdale for 46 years. She was a former resident of Taylor, Austin, San Antonio and Victoria, Texas. She was a legal secretary for Charles Kirbo in Austin and was a longtime partner with her first husband in the Guthrie Electric Service in Rockdale. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockdale and was a longtime member and former worthy matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carlton Cook “Cookie” Guthrie and Charlie B. Barmore.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Nancy Guthrie of Rockdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jim Poland of Edgewater, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale.

Harold Grupa
July 31, 1919 — Sept. 29, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Harold Grupa, 81, of Anderson are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson.

The Rev. Louis Sikorski of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Grupa died Friday in Anderson.

He was born in Anderson and was a rancher. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Grupa.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Grupa of Anderson; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Patrick Grupa of Seattle, Thomas and Donna Grupa of Houston and David Grupa of Anderson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne and Walter Pavlock of Houston, Bernadine and Clifford Wishkoski of Magnolia, Texas, and Frances and Wayne Fuller of The Woodlands, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Martha Grupa of Bryant, Ark.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Zora Grupa and Ben and Annie Grupa, all of Houston, and Floyd and Mary Grupa of Shiro, Texas; a brother-in-law, Charles Chrastecky of New Caney, Texas; two sisters, Annie Hyman of Piette Park, La., and Josie Rubach of Houston; a sister-in-law, Alice Grupa of Anderson; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lois Kraft Donaho Johnson
Oct. 1, 1914 — Sept. 27, 2000

KERRVILLE, Texas — Services for Lois Kraft Donaho Johnson, 85, of Kerrville were held Friday in the Chapel of Overby Funeral Home in Kerrville.

The Revs. Tom Currie and Vicki Yates officiated. Burial was Saturday in the Rest Ever Memorial Cemetery in Bryan.

Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday in Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

She was born in Alton, Ill., and had lived in Kerrville for 13 years. She formerly lived in Bryan for 65 years, where she served in numerous civic organizations. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, past member of the Aggie Moms’ Club and the Newcomers’ Club. She served as a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan for many years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ottis Bryan Donaho.

Survivors include her husband, William Samuel Johnson of Kerrville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Bryan and Kay Donaho of Columbia, S.C., and John Calvin and Jill Donaho of Missouri City, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorita Donaho and William Patrick Tipton of Houston, Margaret Donaho and Ricky Yellott of Channelview, Texas, and Susan Donaho Baker of Alexandria, Va.; two stepdaughters, Charlene Johnson Hengen of Tucson, Ariz., and Sandra Johnson Adams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Maxine Kraft of Bryan; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville or to the Hill Country Crisis Council of Kerrville.

Bobbie Sloan
Oct. 5, 1925 — Sept. 29, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Bobbie Sloan, 74, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

The Revs. Paul Kethley, Lee Lamb and Matthew Thomas of St. John’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Sloan died Friday in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in Coushatta, La., and had lived in Rockdale since 1964. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Sloan.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Donna Sloan of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Barkley Lagrone of Rockdale; a half-brother, Alfred Clayton Jones Jr. of San Antonio; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Richards Memorial Hospital, Vista Care or Scott & White Hospital.
