Thomas Edward ‘Ed’ Whiteley
Jan. 2, 1930 — Oct. 8, 2000

Services for Thomas Edward “Ed” Whiteley, 70, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

The Rev. Tim Owens of the First Baptist Church will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Whiteley died Sunday in Bryan.

He was born in Voca, Texas, and had lived in Bryan for two years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. He was a teacher, coach and school superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Barsch Whiteley of Bryan; a son, Kenneth Wade Whiteley of San Antonio; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Bernie Bernard of College Station; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bryan Building Fund.

Bobby Jean Hamner
Oct. 25, 1927 — Oct. 9, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Bobby Jean Hamner, 72, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The Rev. Wesley Wellborn will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hamner died Monday in Round Rock Hospital.

She was born in Brownwood, Texas. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She had been employed at Humble Oil Corp. and owned the Campground RV Center in Waller, Texas.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nicolle Hamner of Cedar Park, Texas; a sister, Maxie White of Pittsburgh, N.C.; a half- brother, Dewayne Naron of Houston; a half-sister, Sandy Houston of Little Rock, Ark.; and a granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 2224 Walsh Tarlton Lane, Suite 200, Austin, TX 78746.

Staretha A. Larke
Sept. 8, 1923 — Oct. 7, 2000

JACKSON, S.C. — Services for Staretha A. Larke, 77, of Jackson, S.C., are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Lambuth Chapel in Augusta, Ga. The Rev. Dr. Alvin Larke Jr. and Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Irvin, Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Kathwood community, Jackson, S.C.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin Larke Sr. of Jackson; three daughters, Shirley L. Johnson of Jackson, Emma L. Morris of North Augusta, S.C., and Dr. Teresa L. Pope of Aiken, S.C.; five sons, the Rev. Dr. Alvin Larke Jr. of College Station, Dr. Charles G. Larke of Augusta, Ga., Johnnie Larke of Haphzibah, Ga., George H. Larke, of Wagener, S.C., and Warren Larke of Jackson; two sisters, Florence A. Maris of Augusta, Ga., Janet A. Cofer of North Augusta, Ga.; three brothers, Warren Aaron Sr. of Jackson and James Aaron and Franklin Aaron, both of Augusta; 22 grandchildren;, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Martin L. ‘Jim’ Riley, Sr.
Dec. 7, 1913 — Oct. 8, 2000

Services for Martin L. “Jim” Riley, Sr., 86, of Reliance are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reliance Baptist Church in Reliance. The Rev. Ray Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow at Reliance Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites under the auspices of Cedar Creek Masonic Lodge, #300 A.F. & A.M.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Riley died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Bryan and had been a dairy farmer prior to his retirement. He was a member of Reliance Bpatist Church and Cedar Creek Masonic Lodge, #300 A.F. & A.M., receiving his 50 year pin.

Survivors include his wife, Maurice Dell Riley of Reliance; a son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Judy Riley Jr. of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Jane and Clyde Sides of Bryan; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elo Otto Rummel
Feb. 15, 1921 — Oct. 10, 2000

ROUND TOP, Texas — Services for Elo Otto Rummel, 79, of Round Top are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, Texas. The Rev. Don Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Nassau Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
Mr. Rummel died Tuesday in Houston.

He was born in the Nassau community in Fayette County. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby and International Brotherhood of Painters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Rummel.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kirby and Vannette Rummel of Spring; a daughter, Marilyn Clepper of Houston; and two grandchildren.

L.B. Martin
Sept. 9, 1932 — Oct. 9, 2000

Services for L.B. Martin, 68, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. The Rev. Bob Richers of First United Methodist Church of Bryan will officiate. Entombment will be at Restever Memorial Park. Masonic graveside service will be given by Walter Carl Jones.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin died Monday at Seton Medical Center in Austin.

He had been a circulation manager with The Bryan-College Station Eagle in the 1950s. He was a 45-year master Mason, a master of Brazos Union Lodge #129 A.F. & A.M. in Bryan, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Arabia Temple Shrine in Houston, the Brazos Valley Shrine and Brazos Valley Scottish Rite. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Martin of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” and Donna Martin and Ronald Dean “Ron” and Robin Martin, both of Bryan; a brother-in-law and his wife, Roy G. and Patricia Vick of Colleyville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Drake of Temple and Mildred and J.B. Lyon of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and American Cancer Society.

Rosa Lee Upchurch
April 11, 1914 — Oct. 10, 2000

Services for Rosa Lee Upchurch, 86, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. The Rev. Bennie Mosley will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Upchurch died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Brazos County and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include a special friend, Leola Allen of Bryan.

Glenn Hendricks
March 20, 1931 — Oct. 9, 2000

WHITESBORO, Texas — Services for Glenn Hendricks, 69, of Whitesboro are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Huff Funeral Chapel in Whitesboro. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro.

Mr. Hendricks died Monday at his home.

He was born in Sadler, Texas. He was a retired public school administrator for the Bryan Independent School District. He was an Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Faye Petty Hendricks.

Survivors include one son, Grady Hendricks of College Station; three daughters, Cynthia Walters of Whitesboro, Terri Felix and Glenda Langefels, both of Cincinnati; one sister, Ann Catherine Curington of Fort Worth and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Linda Darlene ‘Mom’ Kyllonen
June 7, 1952 — Oct. 11, 2000

CALDWELL — Graveside services for Linda Darlene “Mom” Kyllonen, 48, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Masonic Cemetery in Caldwell. The Rev. John Alaniz of Harbor’s Cove Fellowship Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Miss Kyllonen died Wednesday in Caldwell.

She was born in Detroit. She was a nurse.

Survivors include her fiance, Charles Dubcak of Caldwell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Brandy Anderson, and Mike and Rainbow Anderson, all of Caldwell; a stepson and wife, Michael and Sherry Dubcak of Caldwell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sabrina and Chris Morris, Laurie Martin and Big Tinka, all of Caldwell; a stepdaughter and husband, Michelle and Jimmy Dowling of Lafayette, La.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Melinda Anderson of Somerville, George and Peggy Anderson of Detroit; a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Jack Harris of Detroit and 11 grandchildren.

L. L. Karli
Feb. 23, 1917 — Oct. 11, 2000

Services for L.L. Karli, 83, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Bryan. Burial will be in Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Karli died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Valley Springs, S.D. He retired after 38 years with International Harvester in sales. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Karli of Bryan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin Karli of Conroe, Texas, Kirke and Donna Karli of Bryan; two daughters, Karen and Kathi Karli, both of Bryan; a brother, Vernon Karli of Bella Vista, Ark., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army and Twin City Mission.

Collins Humphrey
May 25, 1925 — Oct. 10, 2000

Services for Collins Humphrey, 75, of College Station are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. The Rev. Bennie Mosley will officiate. Burial will be in Dime Box Cemetery in Dime Box, Texas.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Humphrey died Tuesday at his home in College Station.

Survivors include his wife, Arie Lee Franklin of College Station, and numerous other relatives.

Jonnie Cernuch
Feb. 6, 1920 — Oct. 10, 2000

MARQUEZ — A memorial service for Jonnie Cernuch, 80, of Marquez is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Vanetia Baptist Church in Marquez.

The Rev. Darren Boyd will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mrs. Cernuch died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Houston. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxilliary Post No. 1907. She had been a member of Reid Memorial Methodist Church in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Cernuch.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charlie Jr. and Shirley Cernuch of Gause, Texas, Leonard and Rita Cernuch of Cypress, Texas, and John Cernuch of Marquez; one daughter, Charlotte Miears of Livingston, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Jewell Hayes of Tomball, Texas; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lucian Erle Slagle
Oct. 3, 1915 — Oct. 11, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Lucian Erle Slagle, 85, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Franklin.

The Rev. James Sterling will officiate. Burial will be at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Slagle died at his home in Hearne Wednesday.

He was born in Ennis, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Duerer Slagle, and his daughter, Jean Ellen Vorhoff.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Miller Slagle of Hearne; his son and daughter-in-law, Lucian Erle Jr. and Sandy Slagle of Redmond, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Ann and John Catledge of New Orleans and Kathy and Tom Caffery of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Sarah Slagle of Hearne; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of Christ in Franklin, Hospice Brazos Valley or the American Cancer Society.
