Willie Joseph Urbanovsky
May 29, 1909 — Oct. 22, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Willie Joseph Urbanovsky, 91, of Dime Box are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dime Box Brethren Church.

The Revs. Del Miller and Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in the Hranice Cemetery near Dime Box.

A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Urbanovsky died Sunday in Country Care Plex in Giddings, Texas.

He was born in Burleson County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Dime Box Brethren Church and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 13.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Urbanovsky.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Weaver of Dime Box; a sister and brother-in-law, Lenora and George Chmelar of Caldwell; and two grandsons.

Roger E. Winslow
Sept. 17, 1920 — Oct. 23, 2000

Services for Roger E. Winslow, 80, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Bob Richers, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan, will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Winslow died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Salem, Ind., and lived in Bryan for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Earl Graham American Legion Post No. 159. He owned a farm machinery dealership before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred F. Winslow of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald K. and Carolyn Winslow of College Station and Steven J. and Katherine Winslow of Lewisville, Texas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Glendola Winslow of Parson, Kan., Max and Imogene Winslow of Salem, Ind., and Burl and Juanita Winslow of Taft, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Avis Brough of Salem; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Bulah Fay Hopkins Whitfield
July 15, 1919 — Oct. 23, 2000

BEDIAS — Services for Bulah Fay Hopkins Whitfield, 81, of Bedias are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Bedias Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Methodist Cemetery in Bedias.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias.

Mrs. Whitfield died Monday.

She was born in Grimes County. She was a member of the Texas and Southwest Cattle Association, the Texas Farm Bureau and the Cattle Raisers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Whitfield.

Survivors include two nephews and their wives, Billy Wayne and Loretta Thomas of Mesquite, Texas, and J.W. and Betty Thomas of Duncanville, Texas; one great-niece, two great-nephews and one great-great nephew.

Wilma Jean Jordan
June 25, 1922 — Oct. 23, 2000

MADISONVILLE — A private memorial service for Wilma Jean Jordan, 78, of Madisonville will be scheduled at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.
Mrs. Jordan died Monday in a nursing home in Madisonville.

She was born in Halford, Calif.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Everett Key of Midway; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Penny Gaines of Midway and Dennis and Estrella Ingram of Lemon Grove, Calif.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Frank Roberts of Poway, Calif., and Phyllis and Tom Christman of Great Falls, Mont.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Bai Chen
Dec. 20, 1966 — Oct. 21, 2000

A memorial service for Bai Chen, 33, of College Station is set for 4 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. Yiwei Jiang will officiate.

Mrs. Chen died Saturday in Bastrop County.

She was born in Shanghai, China, and had lived in College Station for the past 5 1/2 years. She was a database analyst for Dell Computers. She was a medical doctor in China.

Survivors include her husband, Keyong Zou of College Station; a son, Allen Chen Zou of College Station; one brother, Ming Chen of New Jersey, one sister, Qing Chen of Shanghai; and her parents, Xing-Xing Chen and Yun Helian of Shanghai.

Marcella Marek Polansky
Nov. 19, 1912 — Oct. 24, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Marcella Marek Polansky, 87, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell. Monsignor Emilian Foltyn and the Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Frenstat.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Polansky died Tuesday in Bryan.

She was born in Birch in Burleson County. She was a retired business owner. Mrs. Polansky was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Rosary and Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Polansky, and one son, John A. Polansky Jr.

Survivors include her two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Joan Polansky of Houston and Thomas Polansky of Oklahoma City; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Edwin Macha of East Bernard, Texas, Marcella and Gary Franzetti of Caldwell, Margaret Polansky of Caldwell and Bernadetta Polansky of Caldwell; one brother, Edwin Marek of Caldwell; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Polansky of College Station; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Marek and Milady Marek, both of Caldwell.

Ocie Berry
May 1, 1904 — Oct. 24, 2000

Graveside services for Ocie Berry, 96, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Plainview Cemetery in Madison County. Phillip Morrow of Brazos Valley Community Church of College Station will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Berry died Tuesday at Bryton Inn Nursing Home.

She was born in Madison County and was a resident of Bryan since 1946. She and her husband owned and operated a retaurant. In later years she worked with Smith Dairy Queens and Travis School.

Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband, W.K. Berry.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil and Bonnie Berry of Victoria, Texas, Floyd and Betty Berry of Bryan and Ramona Berry of Jacks, Ala.; one daughter, Louise Lee of Sweeny, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 49 great-great-grandchildren.

Grace Bell Caldwell
May 22, 1911 - Oct. 24, 2000

Graveside services for Grace Bell Caldwell, 89, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Restever Memorial Park. The Rev. Don Swindol of Brazos Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Caldwell died Tuesday in Falls Community.

She was born in Cherry Buskio, Ind. She was employed in the laundry business. She was a member of Brazos Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert W. Caldwell.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Eugene W. and Donna Caldwell of Bryan; two grandchildren, Pamela Townsend of Munson, Ind. and Timothy Caldwell of Yorktown, Ind.; five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Bendina Bracewell
Feb. 26, 1919 - Oct. 24, 2000

BEDIAS — Services for Bendina Bracewell, 81, of Bedias are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the Bedias Baptist Church. Brother Gerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Bracewell died Tuesday.

She was born in Bedias and was a member of the Bedias Baptist Church, Faithful Workers’ Sunday School class, Old Bedias Baptist Church Preservation Society, and the Eastern Star Iola Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Malcolm Bracewell, Sr.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Jade Bracewell of Madisonville and Norman Bracewell of Bedias; three grandsons, one sister-in-law, Alma Wooderson of Iola, one aunt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lavigna Ideala Slack Cooper
Jan. 19, 1921 - Oct. 5, 2000

LUFKIN, Texas — Services were held for Lavigna Ideala Slack Cooper, 70, of Lufkin, on Oct. 9 at Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Harold Hancock officiating. Burial followed at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cooper died Oct. 5.

She was born in Wainwright, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Cooper and her husband founded Leslo Sales home supply company. In 1968 they opened a store in Bryan-College Station. She attended church at Timberland Drive Church of Christ in Lufkin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Irving Slack.

Survivors include her husband, George W. Cooper of Lufkin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Slack of Crockett and James and Janie Slack of Lufkin; a stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Lynne Cooper of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Fran Materra of California; one sister, Marwayne Foster Leipzig and husband, Jim, of Seattle, Wash.; her brother and sister-in-law, Warner G. and Edith Foster of Eugene, Ore.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas, the American Cancer Society, 4000 S. Medford Drive, Lufkin; or Angelina Beautiful Clean, 1615 S. Chestnut, Lufkin.

Samuel William Robinson
July 30, 1981 - Oct. 25, 2000

WARRENTON, Texas — Services for Samuel William Robinson, 19, of Warrenton are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville. Monsignor Ben Mazurkiewicz will officiate. Burial will be at Fayetteville Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at Knesek Chapel in Fayetteville. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Knesek Chapel. A parish rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Church.

Mr. Robinson died Wednesday in Brenham.

He was born in Victoria, Texas. He was a full-time student at Blinn College and a cook for Royer’s Cafe in Round Top. He was a member of Hermann Sons, Round Top, and a volunteer for the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his parents, Ken and Becky Robinson of Warrenton; one brother, James Wesley Robinson of Warrenton; grandparents, Fred and Ann Robinson of Gonzales and Mary Okruhlik of Bryan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorials may be sent to Round Top/Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department.

Vera Sue Ellis
Sept. 4, 1932 - Oct. 21, 2000

Services for Vera Sue Ellis, 68, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at United Full Gospel Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Kevin Washington will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary. A wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ellis died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Bryan and graduated from Lincoln High School. She was a teacher and a bus driver for the Bryan Independent School District. She sang in the church choir, was an assistant secretary, announcement clerk, and served on other church activities and social organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Roy Lee Ellis.

Survivors include six sons, Charles Steen, Elbert Steen, David Steen, and Roy Lee Ellis, Jr.; all of Bryan, and Roger and Curtis Ellis, both of Dallas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Reggie Rhodes, Billie Steen, and Sammie and Bill Druery; all of Bryan; one brother, Riley Davis Jr. of Dallas; two godchildren, 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
