HEARNE — Services for Marcha Lee Dirickson, 59, of Hearne are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne. Brian Johnson of Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Hearne will officiate. Burial will be at La Vista Memorial Park, National City, Calif. The burial time and date is pending with the Howard Heath Mortuary in National City, Calif.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Dirickson died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Seattle, Wash., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Dirickson of Hearne; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Ludtke of Bryan, Paula and Bobby Deboard of Corpus Christi, Patricia and Clay Catalena of Bryan; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Diane Holomon of Hearne; three sisters, Marlene Holomon of North Ridge, Calif., Marilyn Delgado of Alpine, Calif., Sharon Holomon of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Preston Davis Burke
March 6, 1919 - Nov. 2, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Preston Davis Burke, 81, of Madisonville are set for 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville. The Houston Police Department chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in Farris Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Mr. Burke died Thursday in Temple.

He was born in Madisonville. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW Post #8233. He worked many years as a policeman. He retired from the Houston Police Deprtment, Hunters Creek Village Police Department and worked seven years in Madisonville as police chief.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Burke of Madisonville, a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Charles Sandlin of New Caney; a sister, Robbie Boden of Colorado; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Joyce Burke of Arizona, Gordon (Dick) and Shirley Burke of Arizona; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

John A. Cochran Jr.
Oct. 29, 1937 - Nov. 2, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for the Rev. John A. Cochran Jr., 63, of Madisonville are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. The Revs. Bill Thompson and Mark Gray will officiate. Burial will be in the North Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Cochran died Thursday. He was born in Vicksburg, Miss. He graduated from the University of Alabama. He was a businessman most of his life.

He became a full-time pastor in 1994 at the Leona Baptist Church. He later became a volunteer missionary.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Cochran of Madisonville, three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael T. Cochran of Huntsville, John A. Cochran III of Austin, Thomas Van and Tina Marie Cochran of The Woodlands; a brother, Thomas Victor Cochran of Leavenworth, Kan.; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leona Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 220, Leona, Texas 75850.

Willie Albert Bienski
April 6, 1922 — Nov. 4, 2000

Services for Willie Albert Bienski, 78, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bienski died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Bryan and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a retired butcher and worked at various area grocery stores including Weingarten’s, Piggly Wiggly and Kroger. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dean Bienski.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby A. and Mona Bienski of Fort Worth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Bobby C. Mansel of Bryan and Carol and Bobby Towns of Saudi Arabia; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Dottie Bienski of Pattison, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ted Bukowski of Houston; five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Josie Bienski, Sophie Bienski, Frank and Frances Vavra and Floyd Barnes, all of Bryan, Juanita Tedrowe of Minnesota, Mae and Brownell York of Fort Worth and Richard Blanton of Whitney, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John E. Cole
May 23, 1944 — Nov. 5, 2000

Private family services for John E. Cole, 56, of Bedias will be at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Cole died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Corpus Christi and had lived in Bedias since 1959. He was a maintenance worker for the Texas A&M University Physical Plant in the Electrical Utilities Division.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Rae Cole of Bedias; a son and daughter-in-law, Grant A. and Marla Cole of Clute, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tescille Cole of Humble, Texas, and Linda Joy and Chuck Rosier of Franklin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and JoAnne Cole of Singleton, Texas, and Larry and Lynn Cole of Bryan; his parents, Bobbie I. and Eda M. Cole of Bedias; three grandchildren; a nephew; five nieces; and numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York City, N.Y., 10038-4810.

Rosita Garcia
Feb. 11, 1959 — Nov. 5, 2000

Services for Rosita Garcia, 41, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Ms. Garcia died Sunday in the Physicians Centre.

She was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a manager for Zip-In Food Stores before her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, Willie L. Green Jr. of Bryan; a daughter, Lisa Pineda of Bryan; her parents, Regino and Elida Garcia of Bryan; a grandmother, Epifania Miranda of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Irene Garcia of San Antonio and Andy and Cindy Garcia of Bryan; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Irene Chavez, Diana Ramon and Patsy and Richard Zamora, all of Bryan; numerous nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew.

Orval Darwin McCrary
Oct. 1, 1933 — Nov. 4, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Orval Darwin McCrary, 67, of Calvert are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin United Methodist Church in Franklin.

The Rev. James L. Green of Sneed Memorial United Methodist Church in Calvert will officiate. A military burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery near Franklin.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. McCrary died Saturday in Bryan.

He had lived in Calvert since 1988 and was a former resident of Tennessee Colony, Texas. He was a retired master sergeant in the Army and was a member of the VFW Post No. 9873 and the Patrick Lodge No. 359 in Franklin. He was a member of Sneed Memorial United Methodist Church in Calvert.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bonner McCrary of Calvert; three daughters, Joni Ann Morgan of Bremond, Margaret Pearl McCrary and Bettie Jean McCrary, both of Franklin; two sons, Steven L. McCrary and Darwin Andrew McCrary, both of Austin; a stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Randa Stephens of Franklin; his mother, Pearl McCrary of Neosho, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Ann Williams of Neosho; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nellie Muriel Mallett
Dec. 22, 1922 — Nov. 5, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Nellie Muriel Mallett, 77, of Iola are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Enon Baptist Church in Iola.

The Rev. George Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Cross Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Mallett died Sunday in Bryan.

She was born in Cross, Texas, and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She was a postmaster and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and was an officer for the Cross Cemetery Association for many years. She was also a member of the Crafter Guild.

Survivors include her husband, George Mallett; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Mallett and Danny and Paula Mallett; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cross Cemetery Association or Enon Baptist Church.

Maggie Lee Tennell
May 17, 1933 — Nov. 3, 2000

Services for Maggie Lee Tennell, 67, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. A. David Ellison of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Tennell died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Kurten and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a homemaker and was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Tennell of Dallas and Ollie Tennell of Bryan; two daughters, Shirley Tennell and Loretta Hawkins, both of Bryan; seven brothers, Otis Kearney, O.D. Kearney, and Anderson Tennell, all of Dallas, Albert Tennell Jr. and S.T. Tennell, both of Bryan, J.C. Tennell of Lancaster, Texas, and A.C. Tennell of Grand Prairie, Texas; a sister, Lorine Johnson of Dallas; an aunt; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Viola V. Nix
Nov. 12, 1908 — Nov. 2, 2000

Services for Viola V. Nix, 91, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Christian Church in Lyons.

The Revs. V. Charles Jackson of New Fellowship Christian Church and Clint Graves of the Clay Street Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in County Line Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Nix died Thursday in Burleson St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Somerville. She was a retired homemaker and was a member of St. James Christian Church.

Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, L.C. and Gloria Nix and Albert and Effie Nix, all of Houston, Walter E. Nix Sr. and John Ira and Lois Nix, all of Somerville; two daughters, Ollie Bledsoe of Wichita, Kan., and Mary A. Nix of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, James Allen and Elsie Washington of Somerville; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Claborne Khrone of Somerville; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann Simpson
Sept. 27, 1924 — Nov. 5, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Mary Ann Simpson, 76, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Floyd Hoke will officiate. Burial will be in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Simpson died Sunday at Sherwood Health Care in Bryan.

She was born in Caldwell and was a homemaker and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.H. “Buster” Simpson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Pearletta Price of Singleton, Texas, and Johnny L. Sr. and Jeanie Price of Caldwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Weichart Conrad and Kenneth Conrad of Snook; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joe Bird and Nathan and Flo Bird, all of Caldwell, Harold and Raye Bird of Greenville, Texas, and Sam Bird of Brenham; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Judy and Jim Leach of Pearsall, Texas, Georgie and E.Y. Steakley and Dorothy and Bill Jeffries, all of Conroe, Texas, Connie and Gale Galloway of Austin and Gene Bird of Caldwell; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Julian Dan Kwasnica
June 8, 1928 — Nov. 5, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Julian Dan Kwasnica, 72, of Hearne are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne.

The Rev. John Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kwasnica died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Bremond and lived in Hearne for 43 years. He was retired after several years as owner and operator of Julian’s Grocery and Market in Hearne. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Kwasnica.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kathy Kwasnica of Bryan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Steve Daniels, Joan and Charles Wilson and Jackie and Garry Merryman, all of Hearne; a sister, Nancy Vacante of Bryan; and two grandchildren.
