Thelma Moseley Barber
Aug. 16, 1904 — Nov. 23, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Thelma Moseley Barber, 96, of Taylor, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barber died Thursday in the Taylor Care Center in Taylor.

She was raised in the Pleasant Hill community in Milam County and had lived in Taylor for 35 years. She was a resident of Houston for 40 years and was a clerk for Southwestern Bell for 44 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Taylor and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Taylor Chapter No. 578.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Barber.

Survivors include numerous cousins.

Leslie ‘Les’ Garner
Jan. 17, 1931 — Nov. 22, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Leslie “Les” Garner, 69, of Magnolia, Texas, are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Garner died Wednesday in Tomball Regional Hospital in Tomball, Texas.

He was born in Elk City, Okla., and was a retired meat cutter for Safeway.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Garner of Magnolia; two sons, Randy Garner of Magnolia and Michael Garner of Tomball; two brothers, Jerald Garner and L.V. Garner, both of Elk City; two sisters, Joan Moore of Horatio, Ark., and Freda Joyce of Florida; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Oldriska Rose Matejka
Sept. 2, 1909 — Nov. 23, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Oldriska Rose Matejka, 91, of Snook are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in the Snook Cemetery.

Mrs. Matejka died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Burleson County and was a retired meat processor for Slovacek Sausage Company. She was a member of Snook Brethren Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Matejka.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Myrtle and Emil Marek and Riskie and Calvin Reigel, all of Snook; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lawrence Dale Roddey Jr.
Oct. 27, 1943 — Nov. 22, 2000

NORMANGEE — Services for Lawrence Dale Roddey Jr., 57, of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Harmony Baptist Church in Normangee.

David Pate of Louisiana will officiate. Burial will be in Wealthy Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mr. Roddey died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Freeport, Texas, and had lived in Normangee for 25 years. He received an associate degree from Stephen F. Austin University and was a rancher and businessman. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Roddey of Normangee; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky and Pennie Roddey and Brock Roddey, all of Normangee; a brother, Edward Roddey of Linden, Tenn.; his mother, Marie Roddey of Lake Jackson, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Myrna Alicia Morales-Calvo
May 7, 1966 — Nov. 24, 2000

Services for Myrna Alicia Morales-Calvo, 34, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Agustin Gutierrez of Primera Iglesia Bautista Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday in the College Station Conference Center.

Mrs. Morales-Calvo died Friday in Houston.

She was born in Rodriquez Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and had lived in Bryan for 26 years. She was a receptionist at First American Bank and was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Church.

Survivors include her husband, Agustin Morales of Bryan; two sons, Agustin Marcos Morales and Sebastian Morales, both of Bryan; a daughter, Paula Morales of Bryan; her parents, Marcos and Consuelo Calvo of Bryan; four brothers, Jose Marcos Calvo, Benito Calvo and Gregorio Calvo, all of Bryan, and Sebastian Calvo of Los Angeles; two sisters, Irma Valdez-Calvo and Consuelo Garza-Calvo, both of Bryan; and numerous other relatives.

Gloria Hoyt
May 25, 1934 — Nov. 24, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Services for Gloria Hoyt, 66, of the Centerview Community in Leon County are set for 2 p.m. Monday at New Salem Baptist Church in Centerview.

The Rev. Billy Gunnels of New Salem Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mrs. Hoyt died Friday in East Texas Medical Center in Crockett, Texas.

She was born in Lampasas County and was a long distance telephone operator in Fort Worth and in Centerville as a young adult. She also worked at Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Centerville for a time. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, A.C. Hoyt of Centerview; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Cathy Hoyt of Centerview; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ricky Felts of Coldspring, Texas; two brothers, Bobby Summerville of Denton, Texas, and Schelly Summerville of Joshua, Texas; three sisters, Jean Crawford of Palestine, Texas, Jo Ann Davidson of Lampasas, Texas, and Nickie Wilkinson of Denton; and two grandchildren.

Annie Demny
April 11, 1907 — Nov. 24, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Annie Demny, 93, of Montgomery, Texas, are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville.

The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Mrs. Demny died Friday in Memorial-Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas.

She was born in Grimes County and was a retired seamstress. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Demny.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Ubonoski of Plantersville, Texas; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Laura Estelle Weaver Jackson
Jan. 15, 1923 — Nov. 25, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Laura Estelle Weaver Jackson, 77, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

The Rev. Cecelia Smith of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jackson died Saturday at her home.

She was born in Grimes County and had lived in Navasota for five years. She was a longtime resident of Brenham and was retired from Blinn College.

She was a member of the Sons of Hermann and was an Episcopalian.

Survivors include numerous cousins and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

Wilbert Schwartz
Sept. 7, 1928 — Nov. 25, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Wilbert Schwartz, 72, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill, Texas.

The Rev. Sue Beall will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Schwartz died Saturday in Brenham.

He was born in the William Penn community of Washington County and was a retired carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Mae Schaefer Schwartz of Caldwell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and John Hoffman of Caldwell and Patti and Roy Horton of Brenham; a sister, Marie Sommerfield of Brenham; and ten grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

Lavertta A. Honaker
Nov. 14, 1928 — Nov. 23, 2000

Services for Lavertta A. Honaker, 72, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. M. Eugene Vickery will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Honaker died Thursday in Sherwood Nursing Home.

She was born in Artesia, N.M., and had lived in Bryan since 1995. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and James Lord of Stoneham and Elaine and Frank DeLeon of Navasota; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Stella Mae Schroeder
Oct. 19, 1917 — Nov. 26, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for Stella Mae Schroeder, 83, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Revs. J. Elliott Pancoast and Lawrence Badee will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Schroeder died Sunday in a Brenham nursing home.

She was born in Navasota and attended Navasota schools and graduated from Brenham High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin “Beanie” Schroeder.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Alvin Neal and Judy Schroeder of Katy, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Jo and Jack Fickessen of Austin; a sister, Lillian Buck of Carmichael, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Schroeder of Brenham and Helen Schroeder of Houston; and five grandchildren.
