Virginia Mae Phillips
March 19, 1924 — Nov. 27, 2000

Mrs. Virginia Mae Phillips, 76, of Bryan died Monday at her home.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

She was born in Kansas City, Mo., and had lived in Bryan for 30 years. She was retired as a sales clerk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Phil” Phillips.

Survivors include a son, Glen James Nentwig of Bryan; a daughter, Sherrie Lyn Dasch of Bryan; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

David J. Beettner Sr.
Aug. 7, 1955 — Nov. 25, 2000

LA GRANGE, Texas — Graveside services for David J. Beettner Sr., 45, of La Grange were held Monday at Waldeck Cemetery near La Grange.

The Rev. Walter Williams officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange.

Mr. Beettner died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Brenham and had lived in the Nechnitz area of La Grange for 11 years. He served seven years in the National Guard and was a retired cook in the restaurant business. He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Beettner of Nechnitz; a daughter and son-in-law, Christina Lynn and James Rust of Brenham; a son, David Joe Beettner Jr. of Burton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Sandra Beettner of Brenham, Karlie and Phyllis Beettner of Texarkana, Texas, and Jerry Beettner of Houston; two sisters, Georgia Degelia of Austin and Nettilu Kmiec of Brenham; and a granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Jewel Blackmon
Feb. 12, 1905 — Nov. 23, 2000

ROCKDALE — Memorial services for Jewel Blackmon, 94, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Palestine, Texas.

The Revs. David Luckert and Edwin Willis will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Blackmon died Thursday at her son’s home in Rockdale.

She was born in Cove, Ark., and had lived in Rockdale for over 14 years. She was a former resident of Palestine, Dallas, San Antonio and Canton, Texas. She served as a secretary for the city of San Antonio for 21 years and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Levi Blackmon.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Donald and Ruby Box of Rockdale; a sister, Louise Owens Willis of Palestine; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, Ill. 60611-1676.

Ernest Eugene Cherry
May 22, 1926 — Nov. 26, 2000

BRENHAM — Services for the Rev. Ernest Eugene Cherry, 74, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Brenham.

The Revs. Rob Chandler and Gary Jeter will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

The Rev. Cherry died Sunday in College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Newton, Mo., and attended Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church and formerly served as minister of the First Christian Church in Brenham.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Lily Ann “Dee Dee” Cook Cherry and Evelyn Gaskamp Cherry; and a son, Kevin Cherry.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Daniel Cherry of Dallas, Jon and Becky Cherry of Brenham and David Cherry of Demort, Ind.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Mario Sandoval of Fort Worth.

Joshua Benjamin Christian
Jan. 10, 1976 — Nov. 25, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Joshua Benjamin Christian, 24, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Rick Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Chriesman Cemetery.

Mr. Christian died Saturday in Burleson St. Joseph Health Center in Caldwell.

He was born in Stroudsburg, Pa., and was an automobile mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Christian of Caldwell; his parents, Judy White of Caldwell and George Christian of Cresco, Pa.; a son, Joshua Christian Jr. of Caldwell; a daughter, Chelsea Christian of Caldwell; a brother, Michael Christian of Cresco; a sister, Alyssa White of Caldwell; his grandparents, Carroll and Mary Oliver of Temple and John and Gladys Christian of Cresco.

R.C. Phillips
Nov. 27, 1915 — Nov. 24, 2000

Graveside services for R.C. Phillips, 84, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at College Station Cemetery.

The Rev. Bruce Wood of Aldersgate United Methodist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mr. Phillips died Friday in Bryton Inn in Bryan.

He was born in Smith County, Miss., and had lived in College Station since 1995. He lived most of his life in Jackson, Miss., where he worked for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church in Jackson and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mellie Love Dukes Phillips.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Timithy Dukes and Pamela Bodet Phillips of College Station; a sister, Marie Phillips Pullen of Polkville, Miss.; three granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Antonia Pineda
May 10, 1908 — Nov. 26, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Antonia Pineda, 92, of Caldwell are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell.

The Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Pineda died Sunday at her son’s home in Caldwell.

She was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Circle.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Severa Pineda of Caldwell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maria Spears of Bryan and Alvina and Robert Montelongo of Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Delores E. Wilhelm
Dec. 12, 1927 — Nov. 27, 2000

SOMERVILLE — Services for Delores E. Wilhelm, 73, of Somerville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

The Revs. Mark Pederson and Phyllis Riney will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wilhelm died Monday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Houston. She worked as a secretary in the Houston Port Authority for 13 years and Halliburton in Caldwell for eight years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Somerville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred G. Wilhelm.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Richard Buck of Somerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lois Wilhelm of Somerville; a brother, John Alvin Wright of Houston; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Somerville.

William Joseph Wymola
Oct. 18, 1923 — Nov. 26, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for William Joseph Wymola, 77, of Franklin are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Henry Prairie Baptist Church near Franklin.

Jimmy Sanders of Gause will officiate. Burial will be in the Henry Prairie Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Wymola died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Wheelock and lived most of his life in Robertson County. He was retired from G.A.T.X. in Hearne after 19 years as a steel worker. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW and the Supreme Lodge of Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST). He was also a member of Henry Prairie Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Wymola of Franklin; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Susan Wymola of Franklin and William J. Jr. and Debbie Wymola of Wheelock; a sister-in-law, Levell Morrow of Franklin; six grandchildren; a cousin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glen Russell Rogers
Aug. 20, 1914 — Nov. 25, 2000

Services for Glen Russell Rogers, 86, of Bryan are set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Levan Hubbard of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rogers died Saturday in Bryton Inn in Bryan.

He was born in Terrell, Texas, and had lived in Bryan for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was also a member of the Cavitt Street Church of Christ and the Steve Cooke Scottish Rite Temple. He was a retired seed producer and worked in real estate after his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Mary Rogers of Bryan; a daughter, Marilyn Rogers of Bryan; and a sister, Eloise Zuspan of Eastland, Texas.

Frank R. Burdick Sr.
May 8, 1932 — Nov. 25, 2000

SOMERVILLE — Graveside services for Frank R. Burdick Sr., 68, of Snook are set for 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
Mr. Burdick died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was the manager of a security company and was a retired farmer and rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Burdick of Houston; two sons, Paul F. Burdick of Houston and Frank R. Burdick Jr. of Sugar Land, Texas; a brother, Herbert Burdick of Akron, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
