Warren E. Robeson
Feb. 7, 1921 — Jan. 6, 2001

CENTERVILLE — Services for Warren E. Robeson, 79, of Centerville are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Dr. Donald Head will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Donald Pruitt and Paul Robeson, grandson of the deceased. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in south Leon County.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Robeson died Saturday at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of the Pleasant Ridge community, south of Centerville in Leon County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation as a highway engineer. He was also a farmer and rancher and was ordained as a deacon at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Centerville since 1962, where he also served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Robeson of the Pleasant Ridge community; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Shirley Robeson of Baytown, Texas, and Dale and Brenda Robeson of Covington, La; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Robeson of Jewett and Dorothy Robeson of Bryan; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Texas Baptist Home for Children in Waxahachie, Texas, the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department or the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Robert William South
Nov. 15, 1912 — Dec. 28, 2000

Washington, N.C. — Services for the Rev. Robert William South, 88, of Washington were Dec. 31 in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

The Rt. Rev. Clifton Daniel III, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, the Revs. Michael C. Nation of Trinity Church in Chocowinity, N.C., and Lee Alison Crawford of St. Mary’s Church in Northfield, Vt., officiated. Burial was in St. Peter’s Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hillside Funeral Service in Washington.

The Rev. South died Dec. 28 at his home.

He was born in San Antonio and earned his associate degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky., and his bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. He was a pharmaceutical salesman for American Cyanamid before taking early retirement to study for the priesthood. He attended Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., and served churches in North Carolina, Georgia and Vermont for more than 30 years.

A private pilot for 50 years, he was involved with the Civil Air Patrol in the 1940s and 1950s. He was a Boy Scout leader and was the author of Bashin’ Bob Clarke and Other Stories of Heartache and Hunger Creek.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Smith South; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penelope and Zoltan J. Kosztolnyik of Bryan and Patricia and Frederick White of Northfield, Vt.; a brother, John Russell South of Rockport, Texas; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to the Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, Va. 22304 or to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Northfield, Vt. 05663.

Earl Glynn Adams
March 27, 1935 — Jan. 7, 2001

Services for Earl Glynn Adams, 65, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Northview Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Rusty Goodwin of Northview Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Adams died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Bedias and was a lifelong resident of the Bryan area. He was retired as a heavy-equipment operator for Texas A&M University and was a former member of the Brazos County REACT.

He was a member of Northview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Adams of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Glynn and Roberta Adams of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wendell Gene and Arlene Adams of Las Vegas and Billy Wayne and Mary Ann Adams of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a stepbrother and sister-in-law, Bobby H. and Bill Mosley of College Station; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Faye Cain and Betty J. and Roy Marion, all of Bryan; and his stepmother, Ethel Mosley Adams of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to the Texas Game and Fish Commission or the Building Fund of Northview Baptist Church.

Rebecca Elizabeth Hall Blanton

WYCKOFF, N.J. — Services for Rebecca Elizabeth Hall Blanton, 99, of Wyckoff are set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff.

A private cremation with burial of the cremains will be Friday at Parkwood Cemetery in Baltimore.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at University Baptist Church in Baltimore.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff.

Mrs. Blanton died Sunday at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff.

She was born in Bryan and lived in Baltimore for 64 years before moving to Wyckoff in 1993. She was a math teacher in Waco and served as a secretary to the superintendent of the Maryland School for the Blind in Baltimore.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the University Baptist Church in Baltimore and Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Benjamin Blanton Sr.; and a son, Harvey Benjamin Blanton Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann B. Fisch of Timonium, Md., and Marian B. Munson of Wyckoff; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Flossie Collard
Sept. 8, 1927 — Jan. 7, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Flossie Collard, 73, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Elton Haley, evangelist with the Highway 90 Church of Christ in Madisonville, will officiate. Burial will be in Joyze Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Collard died Sunday in a Madisonville nursing home.

She was born in Madison County and lived in Madisonville since 1981. She formerly lived in Deer Park, Texas. She was a member of Highway 90 Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, William Ottis Collard of Madisonville; a son, Wayne Collard of Katy, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Reed of Bryan and Cathy and Thomas Goen of College Station; two brothers, William Jessy Montgomery and Andy Montgomery, both of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

David K. Dewar
May 21, 1943 — Jan. 6, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for David K. Dewar, 57, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

The Rev. Irvin Huckaby will officiate. Burial will be in the Snook Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dewar died Saturday in College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Nashville, Ind., and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an operator at Dow Chemical and was a member of the Church on the Mount of Beaver Creek and Jubilee Christian Center. He was a retired member of Local Union No. 564 IUOE of Freeport, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Dewar of Somerville; his mother, Julia Dewar of Albany, Ky.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kurt David and Audra Dewar of Pasadena, Texas, Ricky Lee and Darla Kay Dewar of Sumter, S.C., and Boyd Howsley of Somerville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherryl and Tommy Plagens of Brenham and Jackie Hiett of Somerville; three sisters, Hazel Ellis of Plainfield, Ind., Doris Sampson of Albany, Ky., and Brenda Purvis of Coatsville, Ind.; a brother, Herman Dewaar of Rocksprings, Wyo.; his ex-wife, Joyce Fay Dewar of Clute, Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Eula Pearl Gossett
Nov. 7, 1915 — Jan. 6, 2001

WACO — Services for Eula Pearl Gossett, 84, of Waco are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors Chapel in Waco.

Mr. Lon Jones will officiate. Entombment will be in Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Gossett died Saturday at her home.

She was born in College Station.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Vernie Hicks of Waco; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Alice Gossett of Orange Park, Fla.; eight grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel Crawford Lindsay
Oct. 16, 1914 — Jan. 7, 2001

BURTON — Services for Hazel Crawford Lindsay, 86, of Burton are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Burton.

Danny Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.

Mrs. Lindsay died Sunday.

She was born in Howe, Okla., and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin E. Lindsay.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Bruce Whitaker of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Maggie Lindsay of Burton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Charles C. Smith Jr.
July 2, 1916 — Jan. 8, 2001

CAMERON — Services for Charles C. Smith Jr., 84, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Revs. C.G. Rosaire and James E. Lafferty will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Monday.

He was born in Cameron and practiced law in Milam and Burleson counties for 60 years. He also served as county judge and county attorney in Milam County and city attorney for the city of Cameron during his career. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and passed the bar examination at the age of 24.

Survivors include his wife, Dorcas Batte Smith; two daughters, Sandra Grindle and Dorcas Anne Owens, both of Rockdale; a sister, Virginia Schuhsler of Cameron; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Willie Lorenz
Dec. 21, 1900 — Jan. 7, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Willie Lorenz, 100, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Luther Shelander of Angleton, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lorenz died Sunday in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

He was a lifelong resident of Rockdale and was a farmer. He served as a medic for the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale.

Survivors include three sisters, Clara Hitchcock of Austin, Emma Whiteley of Rockdale and Annie Clinton of Baytown, Texas.

Henry W. Engelbrecht
Dec. 20, 1928 — January 8, 2001

BEAUMONT — Services for Henry W. Engelbrecht, 72, of Beaumont are set for 9 a.m. Thursday at Broussard’s Mortuary Chapel in Beaumont followed by services at 3 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Burial will be in City Cemetery in College Station.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Engelbrecht died Monday at Dubuis Hospital in Beaumont.

He was born in Burton and lived in Beaumont for 46 years. He was the retired director of parks and recreation for the city of Beaumont and was a U.S. Army Korean veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Simek Engelbrecht of Beaumont; a daughter, Paige Engelbrecht Mann of Houston; a son, Darrin Henry Engelbrecht of Nederland, Texas; his mother, Celeste Engelbrecht of Bryan; a brother, Travis L. Engelbrecht of College Station; a sister, Joyce Reynolds of Austin; and three grandchildren.
