James F. Cooper Jr.
Feb. 12, 1963 — Jan. 16, 2001

A private memorial service is scheduled for James F. Cooper Jr., 37, of College Station.
Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Cooper died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.He was a lifetime resident of Bryan.

Survivors include his daughter, Haeli Cooper of College Station; his parents, Dr. J.F. and Connie Cooper of Bryan, and Betty Cooper of College Station; three brothers, Mike Cooper of Austin, Brown Cooper of Forth Worth, Jeff Cooper of Bryan; two sisters, Kathie Allyn of College Station and Abbie Cooper of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to BVCASA, 1713 Broadmoor, Bryan, Texas, 77802.

Victor B. Drozd Sr.
Feb. 26, 1930 — January 16, 2001

Funeral services for Victor B. Drozd Sr., 70, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bryan.

Mr. Drozd died Tuesday at his College Station home.

The Rev. John McCaffrey and Msgr. John Malinowksi will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park in Bryan. Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home of Bryan.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s. Viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Callaway-Jones.

Mr. Drozd was born in El Campo and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1951 with a bachelor of science degree. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982, after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member of KJZT.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Drozd; two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Rosemary Drozd and Mark and Amy Drozd, both of Bryan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Larry Zweifel of Bryan and Brenda and Joe Dean Smith of College Station; two brothers, John F. Drozd of El Campo, Texas, and Robert J. Drozd of Brazoria, Texas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Roy Lynn Clift
May 12, 1928 — Jan. 16, 2001

CENTERVILLE — Services for Roy Lynn Clift, 72, of Centerville are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. The Rev. Jack Smith of Calvary Christian Center in Oakwood will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Clift died Tuesday at his home in Centerville.

He was born in Winters, Texas, and later moved to Corpus Christi. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired as a shift superintendent after 37 years of employment with Diamond Shamrock.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Clift of Centerville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Montgomery Lynn Clift of College Station, Roy Greer Milner III of Houston and Thomas Bruce and Rhonda Lynette Clift of Kingwood; a daughter and a son-in-law, Christine Milner Campbell and Thomas Edwin of League City; a brother, William Edward Clift of Abilene; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary B. Nettles
Sept. 16, 1921 — Jan. 16, 2001

FORT WORTH — Services for Mary B. Nettles, 79, of Fort Worth and formerly of Centerville, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Mr. Elton Haley will officiate. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery in Midway.

Vistation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nettles died Tuesday in a Fort Worth hospital.

She was born in Atlanta and was retired as a sales clerk from Montgomery Wards. Mrs. Nettles was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Centerville, A.A.R.P. and of the Centerville Chapter #1002 Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Nettles.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lucille Hawkins of Forth Worth; a son, Roy Staten Hawkins of Houston; her sister, Ann Floyd Burkett of Centerville; 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Ola Mae Henson
Aug. 29, 1913 — Jan. 16, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Ola Mae Henson, 87, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. The Rev. Vaughn Tatum will officiate. Burial will be in the Madisonville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Mrs. Henson died Tuesday in Bryan.

She was born in Madison County. She was a bookkeeper for Automatic Gas Co. for 46 years.

Survivors include two half-sisters, Ruby Henson Haggard and Sue Henson Standefer, both of Stanton, Texas.

Annie Bell ‘Peggy’ McGee
Aug. 4, 1910 — Jan. 16, 2001

CALDWELL — Graveside services for Annie Bell “Peggy” McGee, 90, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Oakland Cemetery in Navasota. The Rev. Linda Thetford of Brownwood, Texas, will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. McGee died Tuesday in Caldwell. She was born in DeQuincy, La. She was retired and was a homemaker and member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew M. McGee.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Harold Thetford of Caldwell; a half-brother, Bobby Elender and his wife, Cookie, of Laredo; one grandson and numerous other relatives and friends.

Atha Lee Morgan
Sept. 2, 1922 — Jan. 16, 2001

Services for Atha Lee Morgan, 78, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan. Mr. Eugene Dewveall of Hempstead Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Wheat Cemetery in Millican.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Morgan died Tuesday at College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Laurel, Miss. She attended Jones City Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. She was a member of Cavitt Street Church of Christ in Bryan.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, K.C. Morgan of College Station; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Morgan of Navasota and Bob and Celeste Morgan of College Station; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jim Byrd of Newport News, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Rae and Lee Mauldin of Collins, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586.

Mary Hadden Dutton
May 30, 1902 — Jan. 17, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Mary Hadden Dutton, 98, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville. The Revs. Dick White and Jeff Gantz will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenbriar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dutton died Wednesday in Madisonville.

She was born in St. Francisville, La., and had lived in Madisonville since 1952. She taught English and math with the South Crowley School District in Crowley, La. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Bertie Sue Dutton of Madisonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Bill Allen of Marquez; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mary Ruth Lara
June 28, 1952 — Jan. 16, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Mary Ruth Lara, 48, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota. The Rev. Paul G. Felix will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to service time Friday at the church. A parish rosary and vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Ms. Lara died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Grimes County and worked in retail sales.

Survivors include her mother, Ramona Lara of Navasota; a son, Cory Mattison of Navasota; seven brothers, Nicholas A. Lara of Navasota, Phillip Lara of Millican, Santos Lara of Wellborn, Joe Lara of Plantersville, Manuel Lara of Navasota, Tony Lara of Navasota and Louis Lara of Richards, Texas; three sisters, Anita Lara of Navasota, Angie Lara of College Station and Dora Lara of Navasota.

John Herman (J.H.) Carroll
July 18, 1938 — Jan. 14, 2001

A private family service for John Herman (J.H.) Carroll, 62, of Bryan will be scheduled for a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Carroll died Sunday at his home in Bryan.

He was born in Caldwell. He had been a resident of Bryan since 1969. He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Air Borne Division. He was a crew supervisor for Alenco until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Caldwell.

Survivors include his wife, Gwenda Carroll of Bryan; one son, Kenny Carroll of Bryan; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Gwen Meeks and David Yarbrough, all of Oklahoma; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Joe John Fazzino of Bryan; a stepdaughter, Alenda Carroll of College Station; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Richard Hamburg and Nancy and Ronnie NeSmith, all of Bryan; his mother, Cleo Brown of Bryan; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th St., Bryan 77803; or the American Cancer Society, 3207 Briarcrest Drive, Bryan 77802.

Mercedes Ortiz Villalpando
Aug. 22, 1918 — Jan. 16, 2001

CAMERON — Services for Mercedes Ortiz Villalpando, 82, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron. Deacon Juan Garza will officiate. Burial will be in the Hernandez Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Villalpando died Monday in an Austin hospital.

She was born in Cameron. She had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corpus Christi and was a homemaker and a farmer.

Survivors include her two daughters, Maria Delourdes Villalpando of Bryan and San Juanita Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Edgar Noel Smith
May 16, 1897 — Jan. 14, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Edgar Noel Smith, 103, of Caldwell are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Old Bethlehem Church in Tunis. The Rev. Anthony Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bethlehem Cemetery in Tunis.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a wake from 6 to 8 p.m. at Daniel & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Smith died Sunday in Caldwell.

He was a lifetime resident of Caldwell. He was a carpenter.

He was a member of the Old Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was a deacon, treasurer of the church, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, president of Baptist Training Union, a member of the choir and trustee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Corrie Smith.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, James A. and Alice Smith and Edgar N. and Joy Smith, all of Houston, Thomas E. and Ruth Smith of Oakland, Calif., Leslie L. and Ruby Smith of Kendleton, Texas, Jacob A. and Gail Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Helen Green, Lillian and Willis Traylor and Betty Brown, all of Houston, Willie and Vernell Edwards of Dallas, Laura Cotton of Houston, Jessie and Edward Spann of Dallas, and Edna Solari of Houston; 39 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Old Bethlehem Baptist Church, c/o Pastor Anthony Ross.

Franklin Wallace Hoy Jr.
Aug. 1, 1932 — Jan. 17, 2001

FRANKLIN — A memorial service for Franklin Wallace Hoy Jr., 68, of Franklin is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin.

Mr. Hoy died Wednesday in Bryan.

He was born in Lock Haven, Pa. He attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and Penn State in State College, Pa. He was retired from Lockheed-Martin in Denver. He had been a resident of Franklin since 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Hoy of Franklin; five daughters and one son-in-law, Keri L. Hoy of Fort Waynewright, Alaska, Kristi L. Hoy of Daytona Beach, Fla., Jaimie Craig of West Columbia, Texas, Mary Craig Stewart of West Columbia, and Vicki and Don Tepera of Franklin; four sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen P. and Rita Hoy of Warner Robbins, Ga., Timothy A. and Wendy Hoy of Carlisle, Pa., Kirk L. and Beverly Hoy of Maryland, and John and Casey Craig of Hinesville, Ga.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia Hoy Dunklebarger of Bellfonte, Pa., and Dr. Nancy and Dr. Lutwig Sternberger of Luthersville, Md.; and 14 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or United States Naval Academy Alumni Association in Annapolis.
