HEARNE — Services for Vernon Vester Moten, 72, of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at New Elam Baptist Church in Hearne. The Rev. O.W. Mack will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Moten died Wednesday at his home in Hearne.

He was born in Robertson County. Mr. Moten was a deacon at the New Elam Baptist Church and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a lifetime resident of Hearne and retired from Alcoa.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Moten of Hearne; six daughters, Imogene McGrew, Laura McGrew, Demetria McGrew and Jo Ann Miles, all of Hearne, Tammy Watkins of Temple and Yolanda Foster of Austin; two brothers, Lorenzo Moten of Hearne and James Auther Moten of Calvert; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ada B. and Cleo Thomas of Dallas, Anna and Thomas Sherman of Fort Worth, Dorothy Jurode, Daisy and Otis Hennigan of Hearne, Dorothy Moten of Houston; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Will and Doris Bullock of Hearne and Allen and Alice Bullock of Killeen, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Alma and James Seymore and Dorothy Moten of Tyler; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Marie Yakesch
July 2, 1911 — Jan. 17, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Marie Yakesch, 89, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the Lilac Cemetery near Davilla, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Yakesch died Wednesday in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

She was born in Milam County. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Yakesch.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Barbara Yakesch of Temple and Lee and Linda Yakesch of Rockdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Tom Fisher of Rockdale; a sister, Annie Lee Kolby of Houston; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Marie Bernadette Schoppe
Feb. 17, 1924 — Jan. 17, 2001

CAMERON — Services for Marie Bernadette Schoppe, 76, of Cameron are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron. The Rev. Tom Hanus will officiate.

Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery in the Frenstat Community of Burleson County. The Rev. Dimitrij Colankin will officiate.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Schoppe died Wednesday in a Temple hospital.

She was born in Frenstat. She graduated from Caldwell High School. She was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and a lifelong member of KJZT.

Survivors include her husband, Alphonse Schoppe Sr. of Cameron; five sons, Jerome Schoppe and Al Schoppe, both of Temple, Michael Schoppe and Robert Schoppe, both of Cameron, and George Schoppe of Gatesville; two daughters, Katherine Schoppe and Bernadette Jochec, both of Cameron; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Terry Eugene Henry
Sept. 27, 1962 — Jan. 14, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Terry Eugene Henry, 38, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Porter Chapel A.M.E. Church in Dobbin. The Rev. Michael Hail will officiate.

Burial will be in Stonehamville Cemetery in Stoneham, Texas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Navasota.

A wake service will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Henry died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Houston.

Survivors include a daughter, Terica Henry of Stoneham; five brothers, Bennie Henry and Solomon Henry, both of Houston; Thomas Henry of Stoneham, Tyree Henry Jr. of Houston and Willie Henry of Stoneham; four sisters, Hubert Marie Hamilton of Houston, Simonetta Brown of Killeen, Texas, Belvia Love of Houston and Donna Wilburn of Houston; his mother, Lannie Henry of Stoneham and his grandmother, Huberta Henry of Stoneham.

Wilson Steptoe
Jan. 3, 1952 — Jan. 4, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Wilson Steptoe, 49, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Missionary Camp Baptist Church in Navasota. The Rev. James Mable will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Navasota.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Steptoe died at his home.

He was born in Grimes County. He was a supervisor at a steel plant.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae King Steptoe of Navasota; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Richardson of Navasota; three brothers, James Earl, Mace and Alvin Charles, of Navasota; four sisters, Willie Ruth, Mary Ellen, Marie and Cathy, all of Navasota; his mother, Thelma Steptoe of Navasota; and three grandchildren.

Dimple Bell Martin
July 30, 1922 — Jan. 18, 2001

Services for Dimple Bell Martin, 78, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Steep Hollow Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Brickford of Wall of River of Life Church in Victoria, Texas, and the Rev. Dale Suel of Steep Hollow Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Martin died Thursday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Burleson County. She spent most of her life in Brazos County until moving to San Marcos in 1952.

She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. After retirement, she moved back to Bryan in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Truman Martin.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Fred and Joyce Martin of Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Marshall Hooker and Laura and Gary Reeves, all of Victoria; a sister, Ruby Cannon of Caldwell; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Steep Hollow Baptist Church or River of Life Church, 103 S. Glass, Victoria, Texas 77901.

Era Lee Hall Brown
Aug. 10, 1911 — Jan. 17, 2001

GAUSE — Graveside services for Era Lee Hall Brown, 89, of Gause are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Tabor Cemetery in Madisonville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Brown died Wednesday at her home in Gause.

She was born in Madison County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Brown Sr.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis Warren (L.W.) and Carol “Susie” Brown of Gause, Johnnie Houston (J.H.) and Barbara Brown of Branchville, Texas, Troys Denver (T.D.) Brown of Comfort, Texas, Marvin Junior (M.J.) and Marsha Brown of Valley Junction community, Texas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Robbie Nell Brown of Nokesville, Va., Billie Jack (Jackie) Ferguson of Brenham, Lucy Frances Peek of Comfort and Patsy Ann and Bill Mund of Comfort; one daughter-in-law, Lucille (Tootsie) Brown of Gause; one brother, Larry “Junior” Hall of Normangee; one sister, Jessie Dee “Sis” Furgeson of Magnolia, Texas; and numerous other relatives.

Olin Clark Modesette
July 29, 1913 — Jan. 17, 2001

CAMERON — Graveside services for Olin Clark Modesette, 87, of Austin, formerly of the Salem community near Cameron, are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Community Cemetery near Milano. Dr. Frank Newton will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Modesette died Wednesday in a Austin hospital.

He was born in the Salem community near Cameron. He retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety as senior highway patrol inspector in Austin after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Texas Public Employees Association and Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association and the Bellaire Methodist Church in Bellaire, Texas.

Survivors include two sons, John C. Modesette of Cypress, Texas, and Richard R. Modesette of Lewisville, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Pat Vinton
July 28, 1935 — Jan. 18, 2001

HEARNE — Services for Pat Vinton, 65, of Hearne are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Hearne. Burial will be in Milano Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Vinton died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Cameron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Vinton, and her father, M.H. Berry Westbrook.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Westbrook of Hearne; her son, Perry Vinton of Los Angeles; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam and Lee Hill of Camden, Ark., Patti Vinton of Hearne; two brothers, Larry Westbrook of Lockhart, Rick Westbrook of College Station; a sister, Loretta Moore of Hearne; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gerald ‘Lee’ Carlisle
March 22, 1937 — Jan. 18, 2001

Services for Gerald “Lee” Carlisle, 63, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

The Revs. Tim Owens and Larry G. Rowe of the First Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Carlisle died Thursday in Shady Oaks Assisted Living Center.

He was born in Jackson, Miss., and lived in Bryan for 10 years. He attended the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia and served in the U.S. Air Force. He attended First Baptist Church in Bryan. He was retired after 20 years of service with Greyhound Bus Lines Inc. He also worked for Pride Pipeline for five years and was a bus driver for Bryan ISD for five years.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Lee Carlisle Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lynn Carlisle of Bryan; two daughters, Laura Lynn Dobbins of Iowa Park, Texas, and Deborah Anne Derleth of Lake Jackson, Texas; a brother, Dr. O.B. Carlisle of Atlanta,; a sister, Verna Powell of Collierville, Tenn.; four brothers-in-law, Joe Dunlap of Orlando, Fla., Harold Dunlap of Tampa, Fla., Ted Dunlap of Humble, Texas, and Stan Dunlap of Mobile, Ala.; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rodgers of Greenville, Miss.; six grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

David Harold ‘Cheesy’ Smith
March 25, 1935 — Jan. 19, 2001

Graveside services for David Harold “Cheesy” Smith, 65, of North Zulch are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wellborn Cemetery in Wellborn.

Visitation will from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mr. Smith died Friday in Madison St. Joseph Health Center in Madisonville.

He was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of the Brazos Valley. He was retired from the Brazos County Road and Bridge Department.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Wade of North Zulch; four stepsons and two daughters-in-law, Edward Wade of North Zulch, Randy and Robin Wade and Steven Wade, all of Bryan, and Keith and Monica Wade of Iola; a stepdaughter, Tonya Wade of North Zulch; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Marvin H. and Johnnie Smith of Tabor and Jerry L. Smith of Wellborn; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise Wade and Annie Belle and Eugene Wade, all of Wellborn; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Strawn ‘MeMe’ Bradford
Aug. 8, 1936 — Jan. 17, 2001

WALLER, Texas — Services for Mary Strawn “MeMe” Bradford, 64, formerly of Navasota are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Canon Funeral Home Chapel in Waller.

Bro. Bill Montgomery will officiate. Burial will be in Courtney Cemetery in Navasota.

Mrs. Bradford died Wednesday.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas, and was a member of Christ Community Baptist Church of Prairie View.

She was preceded in death by a son, William Keith Bradford.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Bradford of Waller; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tammy Bradford of Hempstead; a daughter, Cheryl Bradford of Tomball, Texas; adopted daughter, Kelli Schlosser; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Art Rosenfelder of Hempstead; an adopted sister, Willie Mae Calfee; two grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
