Gerald “Lee” Carlisle
March 22, 1937 — January 18, 2001

Gerald Lee Carlisle, 63, passed away January 19, 2001 in Bryan, Texas. He was born March 22, 1937 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Oscar and Irma (Roberts) Carlisle.

Lee graduated from Central High in Jackson, Miss. He attended the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia, where he was awarded the College Level GED diploma. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of First Baptist Church and Sunday School in Bryan. Lee retired with over 23 years of service with Greyhound Bus Lines Inc. He was very active in the Amalgamated Transit Union, and ran for President of his Local in New Orleans. Lee worked for Pride Pipeline for 5 years. He was a bus driver for B.I.S.D. for 5 years, and an active booster club member for the Bryan High School Gymnastics Team. Lee was also involved with Miracle Farm for Boys.

Lee is preceded in death by his son, Gerald Lee Carlisle Jr.; granddaughter, Melissa Kelly; his parents, Oscar and Irma (Roberts) Carlisle; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Lynn Carlisle of Bryan, Texas; daughters, Laura Lynn Dobbins of Iowa Park, Texas, and Deborah Anne Derleth of Lake Jackson, Texas; brother, Dr. O.B. Carlisle of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Mrs. Verne Powell of Collierville, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Joe Dunlap of Orlando, Fla., Harold Dunlap of Tampa, Fla., Ted Dunlap of Humble, Texas and Stan Dunlap of Mobile, Ala.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rodgers of Greenville, Miss.; uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Douglas Carlisle of Columbia, S.C.; cousins, Diane Lindsey of Columbia, S.C., Douglas Carlisle Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and Carol Ann Bell of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Timothy Derleth, Christopher Dobbins, Amanda Dobbins, Jeremy Derleth, Michelle Derleth and Derick Clark; his dogs, Peanut and Barney.

Lee was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Carlisle. His grandfather was his mentor and teacher.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with Dr. Tim Owens and Dr. Larry G. Roe officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

The Carlisle family would like to thank Brazos Valley Hospice, tta special thanks to Linda, Betty, Doris, Sid Neff, Ronnie O’Neal, First Baptist Church in Bryan, Dr. Avi Markowitz and the staff at St. Joseph’s Cancer Center.

Harriet Brashear
July 20, 1931 — Jan. 17, 2001

CAMERON — Graveside services for Harriet Brashear, 69, of Round Rock and formerly of Cameron are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron.

The Rev. Don Legg will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Brashear died Wednesday at her home.

She was born in Cameron and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Brashear.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas E. Bradshear of Denver, Colo., and Joel D. Brashear of Round Rock; a daughter, Linda Mason of Bryan; a brother, Clyde Dodson of Alexandria, La.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Wilma Couch
July 16, 1907 — Jan. 18, 2001

Services for Wilma Couch, 93, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Jim Adams of Parkway Baptist Church in College Station will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Couch died Thursday in Sherwood Health Care Inc.

She was born in Holland, Texas, and lived in Bryan since 1978. She was a homemaker. She formerly lived in Baytown and worked as a secretary for the San Jacinto Baptist Association in Baytown. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Everett Raymond Couch.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Lois Couch of San Marcos; a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Bardin Nelson of Bryan; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, 1501 Southwest Pkwy., College Station, Texas 77840.

Ruby Curry Kirkpatrick
July 11, 1901 — Jan. 19, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Ruby Curry Kirkpatrick, 99, of Desoto, Texas, are set for noon Monday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

The Rev. Lon McVeigh will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick died Friday at her home.

She was born in Coldspring, Texas, and formerly lived in Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifton Kirkpatrick.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Neal and Dorothy Kirkpatrick of LaPorte, Texas; a daughter, Annie Lucinda Creighton of DeSoto; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Sybil Myrl Shields Neeley
May 4, 1919 — Jan. 20, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Sybil Myrl Shields Neeley, 81, of Madisonville are set for noon Tuesday at the Willowhole Chapel in North Zulch.

The Rev. Russell Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Willowhole Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Neeley died Saturday at Riverwood Nursing Center in Madisonville.

She was born in Madison County and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Zulch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. “Slick” Neeley.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ella Neeley of Huntsville and Norman and Juana Neeley of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Vera Hazel Parker
March 2, 1923 — Jan. 19, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Vera Hazel Parker, 77, of Madisonville are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Greer Cemetery in rural north Madison County.

The Rev. Charles Heath of the Chapel of the Hills Assembly of God Church in Centerville will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Miss Parker died Friday in a Madisonville hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and attended the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, M.J. Parker of Leona and Pete and Phyllis Parker of Madisonville; a sister, Marie Ferguson of Leona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chester L. Sparks
Sept. 5, 1933 — Jan. 18, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Chester L. Sparks, 67, of Navasota are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

The Rev. James Stevens of the First Baptist Church of Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sparks died Thursday in Grimes-St. Joseph Health Center.

He was born in San Angelo and lived in Navasota for 13 years. He was a retired Frac operator with Halliburton.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Clark Sparks of Navasota; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brent Allan Sparks of Navasota and Russell Scott and Karen Sparks of Anderson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Ann Clark of Navasota; his in-laws, Fred and Bessie Clark of Navasota; and three grandchildren.

Louise E. Vestuto
May 10, 1943 — Jan. 19, 2001

Graveside services for Louise E. Vestuto, 57, of College Station are set for 3 p.m. Monday at the College Station Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mrs. Vestuto died Friday at her home.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., and lived in College Station since 1995. She was a staff assistant in the Architecture Building at Texas A&M University.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Vestuto Jr. of College Station; a daughter, Faith Benedetti of Vasselboro, Maine; and her mother, Dorothy Landry of Berlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 East 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77803-6906.

Ruby M. Wallin
Jan. 24, 1906 — Jan. 21, 2001

Ruby M. Wallin, age 94, of Bryan passed away Sunday morning in Sherwood Health Care Center. Miss Wallin was born in Cooks Point to Jack and Ella Wallin and grew up in the Steel Store community. She graduated from Southwest State University in San Marcos and taught school in many rural areas in the Brazos Valley before moving to Angleton, Texas, and retiring from the Angleton Independent School District. Following her retirement, she moved back to Bryan. Miss Wallin was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Wilburn Wallin; and three sisters, Ethel Peyton, Ollie Smith and Clara Bowman.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dan J. and Pauline Wallin of Terrell, Texas; a sister, Mattie E. Wallin of Bryan; and a special nephew, John W. and Dorothy Bowman of Bryan; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Hillier Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Restever Memorial Park, Bryan, Texas.

Robert E. Cashiola
June 19, 1973 — Jan. 19, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Robert E. Cashiola, 27, of Plantersville are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville.

The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Tuesday at the church.

A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Cashiola died Friday at his home.

He was born in Houston and lived in Plantersville for 21 years. He was a 1991 graduate of Navasota High School and worked in commercial construction. He served in the U.S. Army during the Gulf War and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Dianna Cashiola of Plantersville; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Jr. and Sethanna Cashiola of California, Thomas Cashiola and Jonathan Cashiola, both of Plantersville; six sisters and a brother-in-law, Kelley and Greg Mock of Navasota, Katheryn Cashiola, Marianne Cashiola, Dianna Rose Cashiola, Stephanie Cashiola and Peggy Jo Cashiola, all of Plantersville; and his grandmother, Rose Mary Cashiola of Houston.

Vashti Smith ‘Miss Vashti’ Green
Aug. 29, 1905 — Jan. 19, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Vashti Smith “Miss Vashti” Green, 95, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Rockdale.

The Rev. Charles Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mrs. Green died Friday in Boerne, Texas.

She was born in Milam County and was a lifelong resident of Rockdale. She taught school for 45 years, beginning in Nile, Texas, then Gay Hill and lastly at Rockdale ISD until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Rockdale and Gideons International.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Green.
Survivors include four nephews; five nieces; eight great-nephews; and 10 great-nieces.
