CANTON, Texas — Graveside services for Billie Oliver Patterson, 81, of Canton are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth.

Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home Inc. in Canton.

Mr. Patterson died Friday in Kaufman, Texas.

He was born in Bryan and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Virginia Patterson.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Terry Patterson Towns of Canton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth Ann Van Zandt of Pleasanton, Calif., Virginia Mae and David Kent Foster and Gladys Elizabeth Patterson, all of Austin; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Geane Junior Norris
Oct. 12, 1923 — Jan. 22, 2001

NORMANGEE — Services for Geane Junior Norris, 77, of Normangee are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee. The Rev. Sam Manning of First United Pentecostal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Madison County.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Norris died Monday at his home in Normangee.

He was born in the Plainview community of Madison County. He was a mechanic and owned his own business.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Catherine Norris of Normangee; three sons and daughters-in-law, Derell and Diane Norris of Normangee, Jeral and Becky Norris of Dayton, Texas, Gene Robert and Barbara Norris of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Amanda Douga of Alvarado, Texas, Patricia and Bob Miller of Madisonville; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Nathaniel ‘Hawk’ Williams
May 25, 1907 — Jan. 20, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Deacon Nathaniel “Hawk” Williams, 93, of Navasota are set for noon Thursday at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota. Pastor William Gantt will officiate.

Burial will be in the Berryman Cemetery in Anderson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Navasota. A wake will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Truevine Baptist Church.

Mr. Williams died Saturday in Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born in Grimes County. He was a farmer. Mr. Williams was a member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota. He was the chairman of deacons, superintendent of Sunday school, chairman of Grimes County Progressive Association, Civic and Neighborhood Activities, and the Masonic Lodge of the William Starr Lodge #402.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta E. Loud Williams.

Survivors include his six sons and four daughters-in-law, Hubert Daniel and Ruth Williams and Sammie and Mealie Williams, all of Navasota, Robert Williams, Leon and Mary Williams, Nathaniel Williams Jr. and Rachael Williams, and John Wesley, all of Houston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosa Mae and John Patterson of Austin, and Bennie Boyden of Prairie View, Texas; a brother, Julian Dean of Fort Worth; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Juanita Bennett of Fort Worth, Betty and Alfred Nelms of Virginia, and Gloria Carter of Culver City, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Robert Oscar McCarty Jr.
Oct. 20, 1924 — Jan. 22, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Robert Oscar McCarty Jr., 76, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Sister Geraldine Paluszak will officiate. Burial will be in Houston.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. McCarty died Monday in Bellville, Texas.

He was born in Houston. He received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University, class of 1945. He retired as a civil engineer with Exxon. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and was a member of the 69th Infantry Division 273rd Company D. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, New Orleans A&M Club, Exxon Annuitants Club in New Orleans and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Harahan, La.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Wright McCarty of Brenham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dodd and Pam McCarty of Daphne, Ala., and Russell and Kathy McCarty of Loveland, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lura and Frank Dioguardi of Covington, La., and Michelle and James Jacobs of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and five grandchildren.

Ann Marie Rose
May 17, 1918 — Jan. 21, 2001

PHOENIX — A memorial visitation for Ann Marie Rose, 82, of Phoenix is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hansen Mortuary in Phoenix. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St. in Phoenix. A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th St. in Phoenix.

Mrs. Rose died Sunday in Phoenix.

She was born in Norwich, Conn. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sodality at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clayton Rose of Phoenix; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter and Kandy Rose of Bozeman, Mont., and Steven Rose of Phoenix; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chuck Broeder of Wilcox, Ariz.; two sisters, Catherine McCarron of Lombard, Ill., and Mary Candelet of Lynn, Mass.; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 420 W. Watkins, Phoenix, Ariz., 85003.

Ruth Marguerite Cabeen
April 10, 1910 — Jan. 23, 2001

HUNTSVILLE — Graveside services for Ruth Marguerite Cabeen, 90, of Huntsville, formerly of Bedias, are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. The Rev. Roy Botard of Huntsville will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias.

Mrs. Cabeen died Tuesday.

She was born in Harris County, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bedias.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Albert Dale Pierce
April 10, 1921 — Jan. 22, 2001

JACINTO CITY, Texas — Services for Albert Dale Pierce, 79, of Jacinto City are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Houston. Mr. Jim Mullican will officiate. Burial will be in the House Cemetery near Edge.

Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Houston.

Mr. Pierce died Monday.

He was born in Buffalo, Okla. Mr. Pierce was a retired Houston police officer. He was a a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated North-Shore Pest Control in Jacinto City for 43 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Channelview and former member of Church of Christ of Jacinto City.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Pierce of Jacinto City; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim Pierce, Eddie and Rebecca Pierce, Mike and Connie Pierce, all of Houston; one sister, Opal Wills of Oklahoma; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ann Marie Rose
May 17, 1918 — Jan. 21, 2001

PHOENIX — A memorial visitation for Ann Marie Rose, 82, of Phoenix was held Wednesday at Hansen Mortuary in Phoenix. A rosary was recited at the funeral home. A Mass will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th St. in Phoenix.

Mrs. Rose died Sunday in Phoenix.

She was born in Norwich, Conn. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sodality at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Clayton Rose of Phoenix; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter and Kandy Rose of Bozeman, Mont., and Steven Rose of Phoenix; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chuck Broeder of Wilcox, Ariz.; two sisters, Catherine McCarron of Lombard, Ill., and Mary Candelet of Lynn, Mass.; and six grandchildren.

Claude Ray Bailey
June 9, 1928 — Jan. 23, 2001

DAVILLA — Services for Claude Ray Bailey, 72, of Davilla are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. The Rev. Bob Champion Jr. of Davilla Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery in Livingston.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bailey died Tuesday in the V.A. Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Saratoga, Texas. He graduated from Livingston High School and Kilgore Junior College and attended Baylor University in Waco. He graduated from South Texas School of Law in Houston.

Mr. Bailey served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and was a member of Rockdale V.F.W. Post No. 6525. He practiced law in Houston, San Antonio and served as district attorney for Polk County in Livingston. After retirement he was a pipeline inspector.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Candy Bailey and Marty Rhine of San Antonio; his brother and sister-in-law, Weldon E. and Arnell Bailey of Buckholts; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Bailey Colley and her husband, Burnham B. Jones of Canyon Lake; and one grandson.

Brent Eric Caywood
June 3, 1950 — Jan. 22, 2001

MINERVA — Services for Brent Eric Caywood, 50, of Minerva are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. The Rev. Don Laird of First Assembly of God in Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Minerva Cemetery.

Mr. Caywood died Monday in St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center in Bryan.He was born in Cameron. He was a crane operator in the carbon plant for Alcoa in Rockdale for 32 years. Mr. Caywood was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Caldwell. He was a graduate of Rockdale High School in 1968. He served in the Army National Guard as a paratrooper.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Caywood of Minerva; two stepsons, James Gomez of Minerva and Alfonso Gomez of El Paso; two stepdaughters, Maria Gomez and Rosanna Oliver, both of Dripping Spring, Texass; his parents, Hubert and Wanda Caywood of Minerva; a brother, Ronnie Caywood of Rockdale; two sisters, Lisa Montague of Ward, Ark., Becky Mueller of Rockdale; and two grandchildren.

Ivy Mae Benton
July 29, 1917 — Jan. 22, 2001

SHEPHERD, Texas — Services for Ivy Mae Benton, 87, of Shepherd are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. The Rev. Lloyd Jones of the New Life Baptist Church of Madisonville will officiate. Burial will be in the Ward Cemetery in Leon County.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Mrs. Benton died Monday in a Houston hospital.

She was born in the Middleton community in Leon County. She was raised in the Middleton community and completed high school in Normangee. She lived in Austin most of her life and worked as a dorm supervisor at the University of Texas. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Shepherd.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Eara Benton of Shepherd, Eugene Benton of Madisonville, Elex C. and Elizabeth Langford and Billy and Iris Langford, all of Washington, D.C., nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one-great-great-grandchild.

Robert Lee Tilmon
Feb. 17, 1932 — Jan. 21, 2001

TUNIS — Services for Robert Lee Tilmon, 68, of Tunis are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Old Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Tunis. The Rev. Anthony Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Tilmon died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Burleson County. He retired from Texas A&M University and was a deacon at Old Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Tilmon of Tunis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacklyn Freeman of College Station and Princess and Richard Hewitt of Houston; one brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Faye Tilmon of Houston; three sisters, Eula Crouse and Annie Mae Melvin both of Richmond, Calif., and Willie Lou Byrd of Hollis, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 205 E. 29th St., Bryan, Texas 77803.

John B. Ward
June 20, 1929 — Jan. 24, 2001

SNOOK — Services for John B. Ward, 71, of Snook are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville. The Rev. Henry Stovall will officiate. Burial will be in the Snook Cemetery, including military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4458 of Caldwell.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ward died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Crane, Texas. He joined the Navy in 1948 and served in the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Waxwing and U.S.S. Difta. He was awarded the Purple Heart before his discharge in 1952.

Survivors include his wife, Penny Ward of Snook; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jay Tankersley of Marble Falls, Texas, and Delura and August Sommers of Wallis, Texas; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Marguerite Ward of East Bernard, Kenny and Dinah Ward of Wallis, Rudy and Bonnie Hibbeler of Jewett and Robbin and Roberta Ward of Snook; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Arabia Temple Shrine Hospital Benefit.

Mattie Mae Hewitt
Oct. 3, 1923 — Jan. 19, 2001

TUNIS — Services for Mattie Mae Hewitt, 77, of Tunis are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Old Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Tunis. The Rev. Anthony Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Hewitt died Friday at Bryton Inn in Bryan.

She was born in Bastrop County. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Hewitt of Tunis.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence Richard Hewitt of Houston; three brothers, L.H. Benford of Houston, Ernest C. Benford of Seattle, Wash., and Franklin Lister of College Station; two sisters, Myrtle Goffney and Bernice Griggs, both of Houston; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
