Johnnie C. Reed
1915 — 2001

On February 2, 2001, Johnnie Clayton Reed left home again to start another new life. Johnnie was born and raised in Bryan, and it was here that he met and married Lavada Stark, the love of his life.

As a young man, he left Bryan to enter the Army. Thus began his military career that spanned thirty-two years and countless miles. Even though he was a dedicated serviceman, he and Lavada raised three children during those years; and he always viewed his family as first priority. Home was never in the same place for long, but it was always a loving, caring and happy home wherever it might be. Johnnie closed his military career in 1967, but he went back to civil service, first with the IRS and then the U.S. Treasury Department. He retired in 1976 and he and Lavada came full circle when they returned home to Bryan. They rekindled old friendships and family ties and spent much of their time on their favorite pastime, watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Lavada passed away in May of 2000. Johnnie stayed on with his family as long as he could, but his love was gone and he longed to be with her again. They spent sixty-two years together in that first life. It brings all of his children comfort to know that they are now together again, walking hand in hand into that next life.
