Elsie Louise Rodenbeck Poelmann
Nov. 19, 1906 — Feb. 3, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Elsie Louise Rodenbeck Poelmann, 94, of the Salem community are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem Lutheran Church of Salem.

The Revs. Bill Derrick and Charles Treptow will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Poelmann died Saturday in a Brenham hospital.

She was born in the Pleasant Hill community of Washington County and was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.F. Poelmann.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Del Schulz of the Wesley community and Joyce and Henry Zientek of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Jeanette Poelmann of Brenham; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie and Edwin Korth and Norma Winkelmann, all of Brenham; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mrs. W.C. Poelmann and Melvin Poelmann; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Cross Wise Lutheran Ministry at Lutherhill, LaGrange.

Louise Maass
Aug. 22, 1917 — Feb. 4, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Gertrude Louise Maass, 83, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Blair Lundberg will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Maass died Sunday in the Bluebonnet Hill Nursing Home.

She was born in Prairie Hill, Texas, and was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was retired from Bren-Tex Mills in Brenham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Maass.

Survivors include numerous cousins.

John Henry Rice
Oct. 30, 1926 — Feb. 3, 2001

Private family services for John Henry Rice, 74, of Hilltop Lakes were held Sunday.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Tyler.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Rice died Saturday in Sherwood Health Care.

He was born in Pittsburg, Kan., and lived in Hilltop Lakes for more than seven years. He formerly lived in Jewett. He graduated in 1951 from the University of Houston and retired in 1988 as a petroleum engineer for Howe-Baker Engineers in Tyler. He served as a seaman 1st class on the SS Lowrey in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Craig Rice.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis J. Rice of Hilltop Lakes; a son, John Steven Rice of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle Rice and David Middleton of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Mildred Hawks and Alma Jeanne Mauk, both of Houston; and four grandchildren.

Erma Murphy Walker
Aug. 12, 1911 — Feb. 3, 2001

Graveside services for Erma Murphy Walker, 89, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the College Station Cemetery.

The Rev. Dwight Edwards of Grace Bible Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mrs. Walker died Saturday at her home.

She was born in Hearne and lived in Bryan since 1949. She was retired as a secretary from Texas A&M University and was a member of Grace Bible Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen E. Walker.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sara Ann Walker of Bryan and Kathy and Ronnie Braslau of Montgomery, Texas; a sister, Kathleen Zinn of Bryan; a nephew; and two great-nephews.

Cecil Wayne Cloud
Aug. 27, 1929 — Feb. 1, 2001

Services for Cecil Wayne Cloud, 71, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. David Green of Alexander Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Mr. Cloud died Thursday in Methodist Hospital in Houston.

He was born in Kurten and lived in Bryan most of his life. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Solid Waste Division for the cities of Bryan and College Station. He was a member of Alexander Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Ann Cloud of Bryan; a son, Gilbert Cloud of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Billy Hancock of Bryan; a brother, Joe Robert Cloud of Bryan; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Clara Roberts and Mary Winters, both of San Antonio, and Wanda and Johnny Winters of Whitney, Texas; a sister-in-law, Binnie Cloud of Bryan, and three grandchildren.

Reden ‘Red’ Alford
April 16, 1926 — Feb. 3, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Reden “Red” Alford, 74, of San Antonio are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

The Masonic Lodge will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Alford died Saturday in the Metropolitan Hospital in San Antonio.

He was born in Cameron and lived in San Antonio for 65 years. He was a repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 39 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Antonio. He was also a member of Bluebonnet Lodge No. 1912 A.F. & A.M. in San Antonio.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Alford of San Antonio; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dr. Richard Gonzales of Sylmar, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clara Calhoun
April 4, 1919 — Jan. 30, 2001

Services for Clara Calhoun, 81, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Craig Anderson of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Calhoun died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Mumford and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a domestic and a homemaker. She was a member and usher at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rastine Calhoun, and a daughter, Ruth Barber.

Survivors include three sons, Rastine Calhoun Jr. of San Antonio, Sanford Calhoun of Carson, Calif., and Timmy Calhoun of Bryan; four brothers, Sanford Johnson of Benchley and Eric Johnson, Steman Johnson and George Johnson, all of Bryan; four sisters, Rachael Wright, Annie Nutall, Lula Lucky and Mary Wortham, all of Bryan; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Cecil Wayne Cloud
Aug. 27, 1929 — Feb. 1, 2001

Services for Cecil Wayne Cloud, 71, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Rosie Lee Garner Davis
Aug. 14, 1909 — Feb. 1, 2001

Services for Rosie Lee Garner Davis, 91, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Lonnie D. Garrett of Bible Way Community Family Worship Center will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

A wake service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Davis died Thursday in Marlin, Texas.

She was born in Brazos County and lived in Bryan for most of her life. She was a retired cook and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star “4 Letter” and the Bible Way Community Family Worship Center.

Survivors include five sons, Roosevelt Williams Sr. and Alfred Alexander Jr., both of Detroit, Robert Williams of Los Angeles, Fred Alexander of Bryan and James Ray Alexander of Inglewood, Calif.; two daughters, Estelle Robertson of Florence, S.C., and Fannie Williams Jones of Marlin; a brother, Robert Garner of Bryan; a sister, Nancy Woods of Houston; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Jack Elliott
Feb. 22, 1951 — Feb. 3, 2001

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Memorial services for Jack Elliott, 49, of Stephenville are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville.

Mr. Elliott died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Bowie, Texas, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He returned to Stephenville after living several years in College Station and Odessa. He was an equipment operator and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietname War.

Survivors include his mother, Tena Elliott of Stephenville; two sons, Shane Elliott of Odessa and Chris Bailey of Carrollton, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Alvarado of Odessa; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Loyd Helms of Stephenville; a brother and sister-in-law, Jess and Jean Elliott of Stephenville; special friend, Connie Elliott of Odessa, and a grandson.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Texas, 3002 E. Hwy. 377, Granbury, Texas 76049.

Millie L. Goodwin
Dec. 14, 1896 — Feb. 2, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Minnie L. Goodwin, 104, of Madisonville are set for 1 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville.

The Revs. S.L. Morris and Lloyd Jones Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Goodwin died Friday.

She was born in Leon County and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Gertie Ruth Dickey and Mable Franklin; a son, William “Sonny” Goodwin; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
