Edna Virginia ‘Sissy’ Moore
Nov. 14, 1911 — Feb. 1, 2001

Services for Edna Virginia “Sissy” Moore, 89, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Tim Skaggs of Central Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Robertson County.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Ms. Moore died Thursday in St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Robertson County and lived in Bryan for most of her life. She was co-owner of Edna Moore and Alva Griffin Beauty Salon in Franklin from 1935 to 1945. She then was a bookkeeper for Lawrence Wholesale Grocery in downtown Bryan and later for the Rural Electric Association for the City of Bryan until she retired in 1968. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include two nephews, three nieces and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to Robertson County Shiloh Cemetery Association, 500 E. 31st Apt. 202, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Marshall H. Harris
Feb. 25, 1905 — Feb. 1, 2001

Services for Marshall H. Harris, 95, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the G.W. Williams Tabernacle in Bryan.

The Revs. Norris Harris and Anthony Lang of New Zion Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Harris died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Caldwell and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He was a retired minister who served Solomon Temple Baptist Church for 17 years, College Hill Baptist Church for 37 years and West Union Baptist Church for 25 years. He was a moderator for the Lovely District Association and was on the Home Mission Board of National Baptist Convention of America. He was a member of West Union Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reddy D. Harris.

Survivors include five sons, Edward Lee Harris of Lawton, Okla., Norris Harris of Lubbock, Bobby Harris of Odessa, Clois Harris and C.L. Harris, both of Bryan; four daughters, Betty Joe Patterson of Odessa, Herline Jones of Bryan, Lorine Thompson of Dallas and Florence Hines of Fort Worth; 49 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Margaret Elizabeth DeYoung
March 19, 1918 — Feb. 2, 2001

Memorial services for Margaret Elizabeth DeYoung, 82, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Church of the Nazarene in Bryan.

The Rev. Lonnie Green of the Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Hamlin Reformed Cemetery in Castlewood, S.D.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. DeYoung died Friday in Bryton Inn Health Center.

She was born in Detroit and was a retired secretary. She was involved in the Mission Field in Brewton, Ala., and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Winnie Weyhe.

Survivors include her husband, J. Wilbur DeYoung of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Cora and Marvin Ihnen of Bryan; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6161 Savoy Drive, Suite 240, Houston, Texas 77036.

Nancy Elizabeth Hartman
Dec. 18, 1934 — Feb. 4, 2001

A private inurement will be held for Nancy Elizabeth Hartman, 66, of Bryan. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hillier Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hartman died Sunday at College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Aruba, West Indies. She was a retired school teacher. She taught in Kansas and Beeville, Texas. Mrs. Hartman also taught adult education for Texas A&M University and the Bryan and College Station school districts.

Survivors include her husband, Ned Hartman of Bryan; her son, Andrew C. Hartman of Bryan; two brothers, Richard Thorp of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Thomas Thorp of Maynard, Mass.

Ora Lee Kelm
April 3, 1925 — Feb. 5, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Ora Lee Kelm, 75, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. The Rev. Arnon L. Lundborg will officiate. Burial will be in Richter Cemetery, near Round Top.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mrs. Kelm died Monday at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Carmine, Texas. She attended Hills School. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 338 of Round Top and the Round Top-Warrenton Fire Department Auxiliary. Mrs. Kelm was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Ezra Kelm of Brenham, a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Johnnie Jankowiak of Brenham; a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Ileen Kiel of Round Top; two grandchildren;

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top or to your favorite charity.

Wanda Berniece Hoover Smith
Jan. 5, 1918 — Feb. 4, 2001

Services for Wanda Berniece Hoover Smith, 83, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Clements-Wilcox Chapel in Marble Falls, Texas.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday in College Station.She was born in Ottowa County, Okla. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lovington, N.M., a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekahs, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Pythian Sisters, the VFW Auxiliary and DAV Auxiliary. She worked many years with the Rainbow Girls, DeMolay, and Theta Rho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Smith.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tom Pennell of Bryan; and two grandchildren.

K.D. Grabener
Oct. 9, 1913 — Feb. 6, 2001

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Services for K.D. Grabener, 87, of Missouri City are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Dr. Chester Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Milano Cemetery.

Mr. Grabener died Tuesday at the Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital in Houston.

He was born in Sandy Creek community. He was a salesman for American Beauty Macaroni Company. He graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron. Mr. Grabener was a member of the Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year pin in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Grabener.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Perry of Missouri City; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Joe W. Penicka
Feb. 9, 1936 — Feb. 5, 2001

A Mass for Joe W. Penicka, 64, of Bryan is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home. The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Smetana Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Penicka died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Brazos County. He was a retired truck driver for the city of Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Penicka of Bryan; two sons, Joe Penicka of Bryan, and Robert Penicka and Robin of Bryan.

Bessie R. Clark
Aug. 25, 1923 — Feb. 6, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Bessie R. Clark, 77, of Navasota, are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota. The Rev. James Stevens of First Baptist Church of Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Clark died Tuesday at Grimes-St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Trinity, Texas. She was a retired cafeteria employee with the Clear Creek school district in League City, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Fred M. Clark of Navasota; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Ann Clark of Navasota; a daughter, Dianne Sparks of Navasota; two brothers, Coot Rogers of Trinity and Gene Rogers of Trout Creek, Utah; a sister, Mary Frakes of LaPorte, Texas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Barbara Jean Terrell
Oct. 17, 1944 — Jan. 30, 2001

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Services for Barbara Jean Terrell, 56, of Kansas City, are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln Center in College Station. The Rev. A.C. Clark of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Wellborn.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Ms. Terrell died Jan. 30 in Kansas City, Mo.

She was born in Kansas City. She was a retired cook. Ms. Terrell graduated from Lincoln High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.A. Terrell Sr.

Survivors include a son, R.A. Terrell Jr. of College Station; four daughters, Treva Preston, Terri McMurry, Tracie Terrell, La Tonya Banks, all of College Station; one brother, Burnice Perryman of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Lillie Bell Turner and Gwendolyn Brown, both of Kansas City; her father, Willie Clark Sr. of Kansas City, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

Gaston Stuart Dyess
June 24, 1914 — Feb. 6, 2001

TYLER — Services for Gaston Stuart Dyess, 86, of Tyler are set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler. The Rev. Michael Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Bright Light Cemetery in College Station.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Burks-Walter-Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler.

Mr. Dyess died Tuesday at The Clairmont in Tyler.

He was born in Bryan. He was a retired rose grower and restaurateur. Mr. Dyess was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Dyess.

Survivors include a son, Ennis Keith Dyess of Tyler; a daughter, Judy Annette Dyess of Houston; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Katheryne ‘Kathie’ Liles
March 6, 1925 — Feb. 6, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside service for Katheryne “Kathie” Liles, 75, of Rockdale is set for 2 p.m. Friday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. The Rev. Paul Kethley of St. John’s United Methodist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Liles died Tuesday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

She was born in Dublin, Texas. Mrs. Liles was an office supervisor for Camp-Prinz Insurance Agency in Rockdale. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Liles.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael R. and Linda Liles of Rockdale; her daughter and son-in-law, Mallissia Liles Jackson and Ronnie Jackson of Bastrop; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
