Sept. 24, 1913 — Feb. 11, 2001

Services for Marvin Horn, 87, of Garland, Texas, are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Revs. Steve Holcombe and Rusty Goodwin of Northview Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Horn died Sunday in Lakepoint Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas.

He was born in Hill County, Texas, and was a former resident of Bryan. He was a retired track supervisor for Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a Mason and was a former deacon and member of Northview Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sedelia Bradley Horn.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Ray and Mary Horn of Wellborn and Billy Don and Judy Horn of Garland; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Sam Ferguson of Dallas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Dorothy Horn of Temple, Marian and Ann Horn of Tyler, and Clyde and Vera Horn of Carrollton, Texas; two sisters, Hazel Bunch of Waco and Beatrice Scarborough of Silsbee, Texas; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Johnny Bruce Little
Nov. 11, 1952 — Feb. 11, 2001

JEWETT — Services for Johnny Bruce Little, 48, of Jewett are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ricks Funeral Home Chapel in Jewett.

The Rev. John Warren of the Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery in Concord.

Mr. Little died Sunday.

He was born in Houston and lived in Jewett for two years. He was a former resident of Austin and was a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Little of Austin; two sons, Kyle Little and John Allen Little, both of Austin; a sister, Lana Boyd of Jewett; a nephew; four aunts and two uncles; and numerous cousins.

Ruth M. Simmons
Jan. 4, 1908 — Feb. 12, 2001

Graveside services for Ruth M. Simmons, 93, of North Zulch are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan City Cemetery.

The Rev. John Free of the First Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Simmons died Monday at her home.

She was a longtime resident of Bryan and lived in North Zulch for a year. She was a private duty nurse before her retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

Survivors include a sister, Emma D. Davenport of North Zulch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas Lee 'Tom' Van Oort
July 25, 1959 — Feb. 8, 2001

BUFFALO — Memorial services for Thomas Lee “Tom” Van Oort, 41, of Buffalo are set for a later date in Le Mars, Iowa.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo.

Mr. Van Oort died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Hutchinson, Kan., and lived in Buffalo since 1992. He was a Presbyterian and worked as an auto mechanic at B&B Automotive in Buffalo for seven years.

Survivors include his parents, Bernie and Kay Van Oort of Le Mars; a son, Joseph Van Oort of Sheldon, Iowa; a stepson, Andy Appeldorn of Grandview, Mo.; a daughter, Michelle Van Oort of Meriden, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Van Oort of Colome, S.D.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Larry Morrison of Buffalo and Lori and Steve Dolph of Le Mars; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Harold A. McClosky
July 16, 1920 — Feb. 11, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Harold A. McClosky, 80, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Navasota.

The Revs. Paul G. Felix, Edward C. Kucera Jr., Adam McClosky and Norbert J. Maduzia Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery in Plantersville.

Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the church.

A parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.

Mr. McClosky died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Anderson and lived in Navasota for 10 years. He formerly lived in Plantersville and Houston. He was a retired machinist and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Navasota. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Kroll McClosky of Navasota; a son and daughter-in-law, Marion T. “Buddy” and Karen McClosky of Beaumont; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Frances and Mack McKnight of Bayou Vista, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Davis “Bud” and Verna McClosky of Highland, Texas; three sisters, Martha Kolojaco of Bay City, Texas, Clara Buckner of Humble, Texas, and Ellie Belnoski of New Waverly, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley — Brenham, 705 S. Austin, Brenham, Texas 77833.

Edwin W. Kramer Sr.
Feb. 19, 1921 — Feb. 11, 2001

Services for Edwin W. Kramer Sr., 79, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville, Texas.

The Rev. George Kuebler of Immanuel United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Needville Public Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garmany & Garden Funeral Directors Inc. in Needville.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mr. Kramer died Sunday in College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Fairchild, Texas, and lived in College Station for two years. He formerly lived in Needville and was a farm laborer.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Kramer of College Station; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Ricky Cupp of College Station and Ruth and John Hardy of Hearne; a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Jr. and Natalie Kramer of Spring, Texas; a twin brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Florence Kramer of Needville; three sisters, Nelrose Zwahr of Needville, Adella Jalowy of Conroe and Willie Mae Skotnik of Rosenberg, Texas; a sister-in-law, Leola Kramer of Richmond, Texas; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwendolyn Hudson Hodge
May 3, 1934 — Feb. 12, 2001

Services for Gwendolyn Hudson Hodge, 66, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Revs. Bob Richers of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan and Jeff Snodgrass of Hosanna Christian Fellowship in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hodge died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Minden, La., and lived in Bryan for 26 years. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1957. She retired in 1987 after 22 years in education. She taught English and journalism at Corrigan-Camden High School, Huntsville High School and Bryan High School and retired as public information director for the Bryan Independent School District. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended Hosanna Christian Fellowship. She was a volunteer at Crestview Retirement Community.

She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Reily.

Survivors include her husband, William E. “Bill” Hodge of Bryan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Terrie Reily, Billy and Betty Ruth Hodge and Travis and Amelia Hodge, all of Bryan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Joe McKnight of The Woodlands, and Betty and Robert Lopez of Rangely, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Reily of Onalaska, Texas; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Helen Hodge, Charles and Faye Hodge and Fred and Esther Hodge, all of Clifton, Texas; an aunt; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3833 S. Texas Ave., Bryan, Texas 77802.

Jeffery Scott Wessinger
June 2, 1967 — Feb. 9, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Jeffery Scott Wessinger, 33, of Chappell Hill are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.

The Rev. David Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Wessinger died Friday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

He was born in Brenham and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was employed as a maintenance technician at Brentex Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Wessinger of Chappell Hill; a son, Tyler Allen Wessinger of Chappell Hill; his father, Johnnie Wessinger Jr. of Brenham; his mother and stepfather, Lennie and Rich Gano of Huntsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rusty and Karen Wessinger of Baytown, Texas, and John and Paula Wessinger of Brenham; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beth Novak and Jamie and Victor Kuykendoll, all of Brenham; grandparents, Moe and Norma Hanks of Burton and Johnnie Sr. and Stella Wessinger of Brenham; his mother-in-law, JoAnn Morgan of Chappell Hill; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clyde and Tess Morgan of Chappell Hill; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Sidney H. Barker
Sept. 5, 1910 — Feb. 11, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Sidney H. Barker, 90, of Millican are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Gary Samford of Millican Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wheat Cemetery in Millican.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Barker died Sunday in College Station.

He was born in Millican and was an inspector for the Texas Animal Health Commission. He was a member of the Millican Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Barker of Millican; a daughter, Dorothy Poe of Lake Whitney, Texas; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Jennie Guillory of Ville Platte, La., J.R. “Slim” and Ather Guillory of Pasadena, Texas, and Eddie and Kitty Guillory of Metairie, La.; a sister, Lois Smith of Millican; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, June and J.L. Fontenot of Mamou, La., and Virginia Smith of Everett, Wash.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives..

Rev. D.D. Simpson
March 3, 1918 — Feb. 12, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for the Rev. D.D. Simpson, 82, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Rockdale. The Revs. C.W. Parker and Preston Fischer will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Simpson died Monday at his home in Rockdale.

He was born in Poolville, Texas, in Parker County. He was a Baptist pastor for 60 years and the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rockdale from 1966 to 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Addie Faye Simpson of Rockdale; a son, Nathan Glenn Simpson of Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters, Elaine Simpson of Temple, Lynette Fischer of Bryan, and Lois Parker of Marlin; a brother, Berlin B. Simpson of Tulsa, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Moria Dale 'Slats' Taylor
Oct. 12, 1930 — Feb. 12, 2001

BREMOND — Graveside services for Moria Dale “Slats” Taylor, 70, of Bremond are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Herds Prairie Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Bates will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Bremond Funeral Home.

Mr. Taylor died Monday at Bremond Nursing Center.

He was born in Victoria. He was a sheet metal worker. Mr. Taylor was a member of Herds Prairie Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Taylor of Bremond; three sons and daughters-in-law, Emit Wayne and Kathy Taylor of Reno, Nev., John Adam and Glenda Taylor of Lindburg, Kan., and Mark and Elisa Barabe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and David Phillips of Bremond; one brother, Lavoye “Buster” Taylor of Channelview, one brothers and sister-in-law, Arlis and Mary Taylor of Corpus Christi, Texas ; one sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Edwin Jones of Baytown; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
