A wake service will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church before the service.

Mary Cecelia (Long) Ballard

Mrs. Ballard died this morning at MYA Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements for Mary Elom, 86, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Elom died Wednesday night at Herman Memorial S.E. in Friendswood.

Mary Cecilia (Long) Ballard

Services for Mary Cecilia (Long) Ballard, 85, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Palestine Middle Cemetery with Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Ballard died Thursday morning at MYA Health Care Center in Palestine, and went home to rest in Jesus loving arms. She was born Aug. 24, 1918 in Palestine to Julian Elbert and Lelia (Wray) Long. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1936 and later attended Nixon Business College. She worked for 33 years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Palestine in the freight claims department, until her retirement in August 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palestine from 1930 to 1980.

Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Ballard; mother, Lelia Jency Long; father, Julian Long; sister, Margaret Geneva Long; two brothers, Pascal E. Long and Charles E. Long; granddaughter, Deirdre Adele Ashley, daughter of Vernon and Benjy Ashley.

She is survived by her son, Vernon E. Ashley and wife Benjy of Clear Lake City,  Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Barbara and Bill McKinney of Elkhart.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Reynolds Elom

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Mary Elom, passed away April 7, 2004. Born in Danville, Ill., and a lifelong resident of Oakwood, she was a loving Christian and precious encourager who was tenaciously devoted to her family. She passed away of heart disease complications in Friendswood. She was 86 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis Rudloph Elom; her daughter, Patricia McCurdy; and her grandson, Richard McCurdy. She is survived by three sons, Mike McConathy Sr., Robert Elom and Daniel Elom; two daughters, Mary Beale and Lynda Stanforth; two sisters, Jennie Hutchins and Gladys Stark; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandbaby, nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Several of her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers, with one honorary who is serving our country in Iraq. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bailey & Foster Chapel in Palestine, with Dr. Barry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jeff Holt

Services for Jeff Holt, 52, of Grapeland will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Parker Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Dobbins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mr. Holt died Wednesday at East  Texas Medical Center in Crockett.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jerry "Red" Eldridge

Services for Jerry "Red" Eldridge, 57, of Oakwood will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Buffalo Funeral Home.

Mr. Eldridge died Thursday at his residence.

Gary Wayne Jones

Services for Gary Wayne Jones, 59, of Porter will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Marquez Cemetery with Anne Dennix officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Mr.  Jones died Sunday in Montgomery County.

X.A. Alford

Services for X.A. Alford, 83, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Fairfield at 303 S. Mount St. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Oakwood under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home of Teague.

Mr. Alford died Wednesday night at East  Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.

Patsy Peterson Bruin

Mrs. Bruin died Wednesday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Don Bishop

Services for Don Bishop, 72, of Brushy Creek, will be held 10 a.m. Monday in Bailey & Foster Chapel with Rev. Larry Krohn officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Mr. Bishop died Saturday in Tyler.

He was born Oct. 2, 1931 in Palestine to Jack Bishop and Erma Lou Elliott Bishop.

Mr. Bishop was a member of the Brushy Creek United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a rancher.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife of 50 years, Earlene Rogers Bishop of Brushy Creek; son, Jackie Earl Bishop of Brushy Creek; sister, Joan Bishop of Houston; two grandchildren, Daniel Bishop and Kevin Bishop, both of Brushy Creek; and a great grandchild, Lexi Bishop.

Pallbearers will be James Raiborn, Frank Vasquez, Hassell Lambright, Larry Selman, Larry Weber and L.B. Cheshier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Outlaw, Brent Perry, Billy Joe Edwards and J.R. Harris.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials may be made to the Hospice of East  Texas, 4101 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701.

Inez Farris Kelly

Inez Farris Kelly, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004. She was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Tennessee Colony to James Hanks Farris and Vera Mae Tucker.

She was raised in Palestine; graduated from high school and began attending school at Houston Business College in 1937. She worked at the Burnett School for Wayward girls in Houston from 1938 until 1942. She worked at the Sterling Packing and Gasket Company in Houston until 1944.

She and Milan Claxton Kelly married on July 2, 1944. They opened the Kelly Hardware store on Almeda Road in 1951, where she worked for 25 years before retiring.

She was an active member of Almeda United Methodist Church in 1951, where she sang in the choir and served in numerous capacities.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers and three sisters, as well as her beloved husband.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by two sisters, Maurine and Clara; her daughter, Kay, her grandson, Tyler and his wife Lisa; great-grandson, Cary and a host of family and friends. She was a loving woman who was tireless in helping those she loved and she is deeply loved by so many. We miss you Nanna.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the main chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Madrile Renzy Wilson

Madrile Renzy Wilson was born Dec. 26, 1912 to Charley Hooper and Lillian Idella Wilson in Denson Springs, Anderson County. He passed away Saturday in Austin.

Madrile is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josefina; sister, Lillian Mathison; four children, Mickey Masarik, Madrile R. Wilson Jr., Idella D. Wilson and Charley Wilson; four grandchildren, Rodney Engelholm, Elizabeth Rodarte, Paul Engelholm and Jason Masarik; and five great-grandchildren.

Madrile received a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College and a Master's degree in Education from New York University.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving for 21 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He then worked as a teacher and administrator for 16 years in the Antilles Consolidated School System in Puerto Rico.

Madrile was a longtime member of the Austin Chapter of the Men's Garden Club of America, winning numerous awards for his plants and flowers. He was an avid bowler, domino, bridge and canasta player and had a keen interest in history, particularly the writings of Winston Churchill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Long officiating.

Jessie Lee Bolton

Jessie Lee Bolton, 74, passed away Saturday.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery in Jacksonville.

She was born on May 15, 1929 in St. Louis, Mo. to L.W. Ferguson and Lucy Cable Ferguson.

She grew up in Peach Orchard, Ark. and moved to  Texas in 1946 where she met and married Jack Bolton. She was a hairdresser for many years; she also worked with her husband in his business and later worked at Nichols-Kusan in Jacksonville.

She was a member of Crockett Road Church of Christ.

She lived in Sarah Center at Cartmell Home for the past year. Her family is grateful for the loving care she received from the staff there. Special thanks to Celicia Cook, Jana Plumber, Fostine Dorsey, Frances Burns, Sandra Gruetzner, Keya Hill, Sandy Lindsey, Mandy Scott and Steve Trevino.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Raben and Debbie Bolton, Terry and Jessie Thorn, Tricia and Moody Glass, Danita and Jerry Bell; eight grandsons, Brandon Jayroe, Adam Bolton, Matt Glass, Chance Nichols, David Bell, Ted Nichols, Brian Thorn and Jonathan Thorn who will serve as pallbearers; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Glass and Betsy Bolton who will serve as honorary pallbearers; one great-grandson, Dylan Jack Glass; mother-in-law, Dessie Bolton of Jacksonville; and sister, Hattie Coffell of Peach Orchard, Ark.

Condolence calls will be received from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sarah Center, Cartmell Home for Aged, 2212 West Reagan St., Palestine,  Texas 75801.

Patsy D. Bruin

Services for Patsy D. Bruin, 66, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bruin died Wednesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Palestine.

Mrs. Bruin attended Lincoln and A.M. Story schools. She met and married Nelson Bruin of Freeport where she lived 35 years. Together they raised her brother, Nelson Peterson from six months old.

She is preceded in death by her husband; mother, Martha  White Peterson; father, Joe F. Donnell Sr.; grandmother, Josephine  White; stepsister, Elvira Peterson Parks.

Mrs. Bruin is survived by son, Nelson Peterson; sister, Ola (Alvin) Hall; brothers, J.C. (Sharon) Peterson, Larry (Elaine) Peterson, Gregory (Alma) Peterson; also, Shirley, Mary, Jackie, Joyce, Joe F. Jr., Charles, Joe Boy, Clarence, James and Andrew Donnell; special nephew, Norman Bruin of Key West, Fla.; special sister-in-law, Ocetha Peterson of Lawton, Okla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends of Freeport.
