Howard Herman King
May 24, 1913 — Feb. 19, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside service for Howard Herman King, 87, of Rockdale are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. The Rev. Calvin Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. King died Monday in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

He was born in Gause, Texas. He was a potman for Alcoa in Rockdale for 23 years. Mr. King was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6525.

Survivors include his wife, Daily M. King of Rockdale; a son, James H. King of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Buddy Warren of Caldwell; a brother, Clyde King of Houston; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Idell Vernon
March 21, 1921 — Feb. 20, 2001

Services for Idell Vernon, 79, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan. The Rev. Rick Dowling of Candlestick Baptist Church in Spring, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Vernon died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Seale.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dezell Dowdy and Ollie Vernon.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Ann Cunningham of San Antonio; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jerry Krueger of Caldwell, Lovelle and George Russell of Franklin, Mary Ann Gebauer of Edna, Texas, and Ruby and Doyle Smith of Houston.

Lauris Serur Campbell
Feb. 21, 1908 — Feb. 20, 2001

Services for Lauris Serur Campbell, 92, of College Station are set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Monsignor John Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Campbell died Tuesday at her home in College Station.

She was born in San Marcos. She was the owner and operator of The Collegiate Shoppe in Bryan for many years. She was a member of the Women’s Club and was on a championship debate club in high school. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, where she was on the state debate team with Lyndon B. Johnson. She also attended the University of Texas.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burke Campbell Sr.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Burke Campbell Jr. of Toronto, Canada, and David and Barbara Campbell of Mumford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Ellis Abraham of College Station and Josette and Kaleel Zoghby of Mobile, Ala.; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Kate Serur of Austin; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to both St. Anthony and St. Joseph Building Fund or to the charity of choice.

Dorothy Rooke Goodman
Nov. 25, 1907 — Feb. 20, 2001

Services for Dorothy Rooke Goodman, 93, of Bryan are set for 3 p.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home. Dr. Tim Owens of First Baptist Church of Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Goodman died Tuesday at College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Beaumont. She was a retired school teacher from the Bryan Independent School District. Mrs. Goodman was a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Goodman.

Survivors include her brother, David Rooke of Kerrville.

Memorials may be made to the Bryan Public Library or the charity of your choice.

Amy Doris Neal
July 20, 1910 — Feb. 20, 2001

LANGLEY, Texas — Services for Amy Doris Neal, 90, of Fairfield are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Wayne Middleton will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield.

Mrs. Neal died Tuesday.

She was born in Rosman, N.C. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude E. Neal.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Robert Ingram of Flower Mound; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Mary Helen Neal of Fairfield; Juan and Gloria Neal of Normangee; a sister and brother-in-law, Dovie and Gil Coan of Brevard, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl S. and Martha White of Madisonville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

A memorial service for Esperanza “Hope” Garza, 70, of Bryan is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 6988 Raymond Stotzer Parkway (Hwy 60) in College Station. Mr. Lee Harwell will officiate.

Mrs. Garza died Tuesday at College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Cotulla, Texas. Mrs. Garza retired from Texas A&M University after 17 years of service. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include her husband, Hector Garza, Jr. of Bryan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carlos and Arlene Garza of Lancaster, Pa., Hector and Pamela Garza III of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Diamond and Delmar Arellano of Bryan; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvador and Bertha Ramirez Jr., and Arthur and Sulema Ramirez, all of San Antonio, Valentine and Susan Ramirez of Schertz, Texas, and Santos and Lilly Ramirez of Dilly, Texas; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther and Alfred Cortez of Schertz, Eunice and Marcelino Ochoa of Las Vegas, Ernestina and Ruben Pena of Kerrville, Texas, and Rafaela and Carlos Gonzalez of Cotulla, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

Carl W. Gray
Nov. 5, 1918 — Feb. 20, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Carl W. Gray, 82, of Somerville and formerly of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Cemetery Chapel in Caldwell. The Rev. Ed Walker of Lone Oak Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home In Somerville.

Mr. Gray died Tuesday at his home in Somerville.

He was born in Marion, Ill. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gray was a truck driver for many years. He was a member of Fellowship Lodge No. 89 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Marion for 48 years.

Survivors include his wife, Louise P. Gray of Somerville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Mingo Bernal of Somerville; two sisters, Ruby Atnip and Pauline Wollard, both of Marion; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Allee Woods
June 28, 1916 — Feb. 20, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside service for Allee Woods, 84, of Rockdale is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pastor David Haines will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Woods died Tuesday at the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale.

She was born in Eastland County and worked on the family farm. She was a graduate of Grandview High School. Mrs. Woods was a member of the Church of the Crossroads in Sharp, Texas. She was a nursing home cook and owned a restaurant in Bartlett. Mrs. Woods ran the Alcoa Lake concession.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Woods.

Survivors include four sons and three? daughters-in-law, Dal Ballew of San Antonio, Allen and Betty Ballew of Sharp, Ferrell and Marylan Woods of Copperas Cove, and Cleveland and Elaine Woods of Dallas; a daughter, Jan Wells of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister and brother-in-law, Zelpha and Roy Bearden of Lamesa; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Carole E. VanLoo
Jan. 20, 1949 — Feb. 21, 2001

PASADENA, Texas — Graveside service for Carole E. VanLoo, 52, of Pasadena is set for 2 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Deanville, Texas. The Rev. Leo Smith will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Ms. VanLoo died Wednesday at her home in Pasadena.

She was born in Grand Rapids, Mich. She was a registered nurse.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolynn Hyde of Pasadena; four sons, Troy E. VanLoo of Brenham, Trever S. VanLoo of Pasadena, Todd M. VanLoo of Pasadena, and Edward J. VanLoo III of Pasadena; a sister, Yvonne Lippe of Dickenson; and two grandchildren.

Joe L. Rogers
May 28, 1902 — Feb. 20, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Joe L. Rogers, 98, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. The Rev. Jo Hudson will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rogers died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care Center in Bryan.

“Mr. Joe,” as he was known, was born in Blum, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a railway postal clerk and was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Somerville, where he served as chairman of the Board of Stewards. He also served as the mayor of Somerville and was on the Somerville school district board of trustees. He was a former member of the Somerville Lake rescue unit.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vertie Rogers.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna and Louis C. Hudson Jr. of Bryan, Patsy and Allen Brantley of Somerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe L. and Janice Lewis Rogers of College Station; five sisters, Julia Hall of Rio Vista, Edith Tutt of Blum, Mae Whitt of Kopperl, Texas, Hazel Whitt of Rio Vista, Texas, and June Caldwell of Orange, Texas; two brothers, J.C. Rogers of Joshua, Texas, and Rhea B. Rogers of Blum; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Dwight Lynn McMillan
Aug. 25, 1949 — Feb. 18, 2001

CONWAY, Ark. — Services for Dwight Lynn McMillan, 51, of Conway are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. The Rev. Randy Lord will officiate.

Mr. McMillan died Sunday in Tampa, Fla.

He was born in McAllen. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John Vianny Catholic Church in Houston. He was a graduate of Brenham High School. Mr. McMillan was a salesman for a chemical company.

Survivors include his wife, Linda McMillan of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwight Courtney and Tamie Catania McMillan of Houston; a daughter, Amy Beth McMillan of Austin; a brother, Terry Lee McMillan of Brenham; a sister, Mary Ann McMillan of Brenham; and mother-in-law, Lois McGlauchlen of Brenham.

Henry Arnold DeLoach
March 11, 1913 — Feb. 21, 2001

BUFFALO — Services for Henry “Arnold” DeLoach, 87, of Buffalo are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto, Ark. Burial will be in Potter Cemetery.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Buffalo Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto, Ark.

Mr. DeLoach died Wednesday in Buffalo.

He was born in Batesville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleda DeLoach.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Columbus Richmond of Marshall, Ark., Jane and William Cooper of Buffalo; his brothers, Norman “Poolie” DeLoach of Hartford, Mich., Thomas Edward “Preacher” DeLoach of Memphis, Tenn.; his sisters, Winnie Price of Hot Springs, Ark., Anna Lee Thompson of Lepanto, Ark., four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
