Clyde Holliman

June 21, 1906 — March 4, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Clyde Holliman, 94, of Rockdale are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Roy Bruton will officiate. Burial will be in the Keen Cemetery near Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Holliman died Sunday in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.

He was born in Milam County and was retired from ALCOA in Rockdale. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Rockdale and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Holliman of Rockdale; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathie Holliman of Austin; a daughter, Lee Ida Hairston of Rockdale; three sisters, Ruth Robison and Ruby Ellis, both of Rockdale, and Etta Fails of San Antonio; and a grandson.

Carl A. Newman
Dec. 15, 1921 — March 4, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Carl A. Newman, 79, of Milano are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Revs. Randy Beeler of the Milano Methodist Church, Joe Weldon Bailey and Jim Boswell will officiate. Burial will be in the Milano Cemetery.

Mr. Newman died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Milano and lived in San Antonio for 40 years before moving back to Milano in 1983. He retired in 1974 as an aircraft test and repair depot supervisor at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio. He also worked for B&B Minnow Farms in Milano. He was a member of the Milano United Methodist Church, the Milano Lions Club and was a charter member of the Milano Water District. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a son, Neal M. Newman.

Survivors include his wife, Martha H. Newman of Milano; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory A. and Lynne Newman of McDade, Texas, and Mark E. and Carol Newman of Milano; three sisters, Elosie Finley of Cameron, Mildred Martin of Garrison, Texas, and Evelyn Watson of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Purviance Quattlebaum
June 25, 1906 — March 4, 2001

NACOGDOCHES — Services for Elizabeth Purviance Quattlebaum, 94, of Nacogdoches are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cason Monk - Metcalf Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches.

The Revs. R. Winston Goens Jr. of the First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches and E.B. Beasley Jr. of the League City United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mrs. Quattlebaum died Sunday at her home.

She was born in Charlotte, N.C., and lived in Nacogdoches for 10 years. She formerly lived in Houston and was a homemaker. She was owner and operator of the School Transit Company in Houston for 25 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches. She was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Quattlebaum Jr.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Emily Benham-Holden and husband Herb and Eleanor Cox, all of Nacogdoches; a son and daughter-in-law, James Robert III and Pat Quattlebaum of Sugarland; a sister, Emily May Ogden of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Ricky Eugene Trapp Jr.
Nov. 7, 1978 — March 3, 2001

HOUSTON — Services for Ricky Eugene Trapp Jr., 22, of Houston are set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer in Houston.

Burial will be in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Trapp died Saturday.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Jo Anne and Bob Finke; his father, Rick Trapp Sr.; a brother, Billy “BT” Trapp; Godparents, Kenny and Susie Warr; and his grandparents, Bill and Martha Trapp and Lula and Jake Warr Jr.

Ruth 'Kiki' Burtis Watkins
July 26, 1921 — March 5, 2001

SMITHVILLE, Texas — Graveside service for Ruth “Kiki” Burtis Watkins, 79, of Smithville, and formerly of Bryan, are set for 3 p.m. Thursday at the Madisonville City Cemetery. The Rev. Phil Woods and Dr. Ernest Phifer will officiate.

Local arrangements are under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Watkins died Monday in Austin.

She was born in Madisonville. She worked many years as an administrative secretary at M.D. Anderson Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Kittie Watkins and Stuart and Katy Watkins, all of Smithville; four grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Opal Ellis Brown
Dec. 1, 1908 — March 6, 2001

CENTERVILLE — Services for Opal Ellis Brown, 92, of Centerville are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Mr. Harold Stephens will officiate. Burial will be in the North Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mrs. Brown died Tuesday in Killeen.

She was born in Wood County, Texas. She moved to Leon County at a young age and lived there all her life. She was a member of the Ash Church of Christ in Austonio, Texas, and was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Compton Ellis, and a daughter, Ruth Ellis Moore.

Survivors include her husband, Buddy Brown of Centerville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Garvin and Mildred Ellis of Centerville, Don C. and Bobbie Ellis of Killeen, Joe Mitchell Ellis of Centerville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cecil Ellis of Las Vegas, Jean Brown Smith and her husband, Danny of Centerville; three brothers, Junelle Newsom of Centerville, Howard Newsom of Houston, and Mac Newsom of Houston; three sisters, Algernon Bassham of Ft. Worth, Ira Dell Bell of the Flo community in Leon County, and Jackie Franks of Centerville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Carrie Kennard
June 19, 1926 — March 3, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Carrie Kennard, 74, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater First Baptist Church in Anderson. The Rev. E.P. Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Berryman Cemetery in Anderson.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Kennard died Saturday at Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.

She was born in Grimes County. She was a member of Greater First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, George Allen and James Edward Calhoun, both of Navasota; and three grandchildren.

Katherine Fisher
Dec. 13, 1911 — March 6, 2001

Graveside services for Katherine Fisher, 89, of Bryan and formerly of Cameron, are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Liberty Community Cemetery near Cameron.

The Rev. Ben Aurand will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Fisher died Tuesday in a Bryan nursing facility.

She was born in Houston and was a retired secretary at Dresser Industries. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in College Station. She was formerly a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Hospice of Brazos Valley.

Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Debbs Fisher, a daughter, Mary Katherine East, and a grandson, Kevin Noland.

Survivors include four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Josie Maglitto
March 10, 1903 — March 6, 2001

HOUSTON — A Mass for Josie Maglitto, 97, of Houston and formerly of Bryan, is set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Joe Frazier of St. Francis Catholic Church of Franklin will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bryan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday by Deacon Lee Cochran at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maglitto died Tuesday in Houston.

She was born in Charenton, La. She was a homemaker. She lived in the Brazos Valley for 15 years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Maglitto.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Angelo and Theresa Maglitto of Houston; a daughter, Frances Ruffino of Houston; two stepdaughters, Laura Collotto and Vancie Accruso, both of Houston; a brother, Tony Urso of Bryan; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Vincente S. Figueroa
Oct. 22, 1920 — March 7, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Vincente S. Figueroa, 80, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. The Rev. Jerry Sutton of Templo Baptista De Manuel will officiate.

Burial will be in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of VFW Post No. 4458.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Figueroa died Wednesday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Refugio, Texas. He was a retired truck foreman for Young Brothers Construction Co. in Bryan.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of VFW Post No. 4458 in Caldwell. He was a member of Templo Baptista De Manuel, where he served as a deacon and treasurer.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Figueroa of Caldwell; four sons, Robert Figueroa of Taft, John Silguero of Richardson, Ruben Silguero of Kenosha, Wisc., and Rene Pena of Houston; four daughters, Gloria Swank of Canyon Lake, Lupe Barrera of Pharr, Jesusa Martinez of Caldwell and Mary Ellen Gonzales of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Nora Cantu of Houston and Oralia Figueroa of Refugio; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Lee Pittman
Oct. 25, 1934 — March 6, 2001

Services for Dorothy Lee Pittman, 66, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Gary Bagley will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Pittman died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Cameron. She lived in Bryan most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Butch Lovell of Bryan and Ronnie and Susan Lovell of Iola; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sissie Berry of Bryan and Louann and Tim Willtrout of Killeen; a brother and sister-in-law, Woody and Dowell Laywell of Houston; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Billie and Jim Green of Houston and Frances Slatton of Albuquerque, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and four great-granchildren.

Charles Johnson
Sept. 9, 1919 - March 6, 2001

MIDWAY — Services for Charles Johnson, 81, of Midway are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Connor Community Church in Connor. The Rev. Samuel Dominque will officiate. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery in Midway.

Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Johnson died Tuesday.

He was born in Midway.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie Johnson of Midway; his daughter, Linda J. Sandles of Midway; his sisters, Bernice Sharp of Houston, Louise Vanzandt of Dallas and Earna Cavaway of Houston; two grandchildren, one great-grandson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
