Texas A&M Professor Jim ‘Hank’ Mills
November 4, 1921 — March 8, 2001

Services for Jim Frank “Hank” Mills, 79, of College Station, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Monday at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, Texas.

The Reverend Bob Waters and Jerry Neff of A&M United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in College Station City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mr. Mills died Thursday in College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Winnsboro, Texas, and lived in College Station, Texas, for more than 50 years. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as associate professor emeritus after 42 years at Texas A&M University with the Soil and Crop Science Department. He taught and advised over 5,000 students at Texas A&M University. He was a member of A&M United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Henry Jean Mills; and a son, Jim Frank Mills Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Mills of College Station, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Suzy Mills of College Station, Texas, and Jere and Nancy Mills of Mesquite, Texas; a stepson, Dr. W. Michael Childress of Fort Collins, Colorado; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve Sainton of Grand Prairie, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Jenifer, Donavan, Brooke and Austin of College Station, Texas, Steven, Gregory, Laura and Natalie of Mesquite, Texas, Sara of San Diego, California, Todd and his wife Duska Mills of San Antonio, Texas, Adrienne and Marie Sainton of Grand Prairie, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Britni, Blake and Erika Mills of San Antonio, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the Jim Frank Mills Endowment Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77840-2811.

Grandson Dear Hill Sr.
Feb. 1, 1938 — March 10, 2001

Services for Grandson Dear Hill Sr., 63, of Snook are set for 1 p.m. Monday at the Dabney Hill Baptist Church in Snook.

The Rev. Tyree Workman of the Dabney Hill Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Carven Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Hill died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Jackson, Miss., and was a butcher. He was a member of Dabney Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Bell Hill.

Survivors include a son, Grandson Hill Jr. of Whittier, Calif.; four daughters, Rosemary Hill of Pomona, Calif., Patricia Ann Hill of Glendora, Calif., Mauna Loa Hill of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Reginia Monique Hill of Ontario, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.

Dorothy W. Magna
June 19, 1925 — March 9, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Dorothy W. Magna, 75, of Plantersville are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham.

The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota and from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

A family rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A parish rosary and vigil service will be t 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Mrs. Magna died Friday at her home.

She was born in Plantersville and lived in Plantersville for 17 years. She was a secretary for the Southern Pacific Railroad. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was president of the Altar Society from 1985 to 1991.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph P. Magna of Plantersville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John David and Joyce Wetuski of Crosby and Tom and Kaky Wetuski of Plantersville; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Margaret Wetuski and Evelyn and Bob Hardey, all of Houston, and Mary and Hank Mazur of Pearland; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Janie and Johnny Baranowski of Richards, Louise Gibowski of Humble, Anna Mae Shibest of Houston, Theresa and Tom Stepanski of Tomball and Helen and Mackey Caves of Deer Park.

James Arther Page
Oct. 21, 1939 — March 9, 2001

FRANKLIN — Graveside services for James Arther Page, 61, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Henry Prairie Cemetery near Franklin.

Ray Commander of Franklin will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Page died Friday in Bryan.

He was born in New Baden and lived most of his life in Hearne. He was retired as a pipefitter maintenance engineer and from Southwest Baking Co. He was a deacon at the Christian Faith Center in Hearne.

Survivors include his wife, Cora Sue Page of Hearne; a daughter, Dawn Page of Houston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jack and Linda Page and Chris Page, all of Palestine; his parents, John and Norene Keith of Houston; a sister, Donna Cochran of Houston; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Ritchie
Oct. 16, 1913 — March 9, 2001

BREMOND — Services for Jimmie Ritchie, 87, of Pasadena are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Bremond Funeral Home.

The Rev. Stan Ortner of First Baptist Church in Bremond will officiate. Burial will be in Nesbitt Cemetery near Bremond.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ritchie died Friday in Vista Continuing Care Nursing Home in Pasadena.

He was born in Clawson and was retired as a maintenance man for Houston I.S.D.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Ritchie.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Margaret Ritchie of Milano; two daughters and sons-in-law, Estelle and Johnny Carnes of Pasadena and Betty and Paul Savage of Trinity; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mary Wadley
Sept. 4, 1912 — March 8, 2001

BREMOND — Graveside services for Mary Wadley, 88, of Bremond are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bremond.

The Rev. Celso Yu of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bremond will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bremond Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wadley died Thursday in Providence Health Center in Waco.

She was born in Bremond.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Wadley.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline Buchanan of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vickie Lynn Stolz
Sept. 10, 1952 — March 10, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Vickie Lynn Stolz, 48, of Bedias are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mustang Cemetery in Grimes County.

Lanier Stevens will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stolz died Saturday in Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Conroe and lived in Bedias since 1998. She formerly lived in Houston and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Burbank Church of Christ in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lynn Stolz.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Margie and Ernest Hadaway of Houston; her grandmother, Margaretta Young of Houston; a sister, Judy Wilkins of Houston; special friend, Tommy Kimich of Bedias; a nephew; and numerous cousins.

Maxine Montalbano
May 14, 1911 — March 10, 2001

Services for Maxine Montalbano, 89, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Montalbano died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Rosebud, Texas, and lived in Bryan since 1954. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Montalbano of Bryan; a brother, Steve Hollon of Sweetwater, Texas; and a sister, Velma Gilder of Coleman, Texas.

Thurston Wilson
June 11, 1922 — March 11, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Thurston Wilson, 78, of Midway are set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Ralph Carter of the Midway Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilson died Sunday in Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

He was born in Madison County and was a lifelong resident of Midway. He was a member of the Elwood Methodist Church. He was a 35-year employee of UNOCAL, where he was a foreman. He was a disabled veteran, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Lucian Islands during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Wilson of Midway; a son, Phillip Risinger of Washington, D.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and George Streit of Electra, Texas, and Penny and Rodney Barker of Alexandria, Va.; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Elgin Louis Tubb
April 27, 1927 — March 10, 2001

CENTERVILLE — Services for Elgin Louis Tubb, 73, of Centerville are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

The Revs. Melvin Lowe of the Church of God in Buffalo and James Harrison will officiate. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery in the Centerview community in east Leon County.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Tubb died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Leon County and lived in Leon County since 1963. He formerly resided in Ennis, Texas, and Arkansas. He worked as a roughneck in the oil industry and was a rancher.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Pierce.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Tubb of Centerville; two sons, Elgan Ray Tubb and Joe Don Tubb, both of Centerville; a daughter, Cynthia Rose Miller of Wortham, Texas; two brothers, Bennie Lee Tubb and Albert C. Tubb, both of Centerville; a sister, Alpha Dell O’Bannon of Centerville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ada Taylor
July 15, 1937 — March 12, 2001

Services for Ada Taylor, 63, of College Station are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Rest Ever Memorial Park.

Ms. Taylor died Monday in College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Elizabeth, La., and was retired as a property supervisor for Windhill/ Sunset Apartments for 20 years. She was a member of the Bryan Citizen Police Academy Alumni, VFW Post 4692 Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 159 Auxiliary and the Bryan/College Station Apartment Association, where she was past president and received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Freddy Cherry and David Taylor.

Survivors include John Seddon of College Station; five sons, Fred A. Cherry of Forestville, Calif., Lee Cherry of College Station, Loren Gall of San Antonio, James Gall of Bryan and Jerry Taylor of Hutchinson, Kan.; three daughters, Julie Ann Good of Newport, Ken., Jodi Lynn Taylor of Bryan and Joni Nisbeth of Hutchinson; a sister, Claire Thiel; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
