Charley C. Palazzo Jr.

Nov. 19, 1903 — March 14, 2001

Services for Charley C. Palazzo Jr., 97, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Kurt Landreth will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Palazzo died Wednesday in St. Joseph Skilled Unit.

He was born in Bryan and lived in Bryan since 1975. He was the owner and operator of the Palazzo Grocery in Houston and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Palazzo.

Survivors include a son, Vincent J. Palazzo Sr. of Bryan; five sisters, Nita Patranella, Betty Duchmasclo and Camila Ramirez, all of Bryan, Mary Boultinghouse of Missouri City, Texas, and Janie Ponzico Parr of Houston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Beauregard A. Wendt
Jan. 5, 1911 — March 12, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Beauregard A. Wendt, 90, of Houston are set for 11:30 a.m. Friday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

The Rev. Brad Munroe will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Mr. Wendt died Monday.

He was born in Brenham and attended Blinn College, where he played football. He was a member of the Sigma-Nu fraternity, the Sigma Iota Epsilon honorary management fraternity and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

He retired after more than 35 years with Reed Roller Bit Co. and then retired from Zapata Offshore Drilling Co. He was past president of the Houston Chapter of National Oil Equipment Manufacturers and Delegates Society and was a member of the Pioneer Oil Producers Society.

He served in Iwo Jima and Okinawa with the U.S. Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander. He was a member and past deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston. He was previous membership chairman of the Moms and Dads Association of Texas Tech University and was awarded the Big Daddy Award as a result of increased membership. He was also a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Republic of Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Snyder Wendt; a son and daughter-in-law, Beau A. Jr. and Daleta Sue Wendt; five grandchildren; and a nephew.

John Wesley Wesby
Oct. 29, 1941 — March 10, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for John Wesley Wesby, 59, of Fort Worth are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Navasota.

The Rev. Ira Charles Gamble of the Curry Chapel Baptist Church in Brookshire will officiate. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery in Millican.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wesby died Saturday in Hermann Hospital in Houston.

He was born in Navasota and was a welder for a steel plant. He was a member of the Bible Way Church of Holiness.

Survivors include a sister, Ada Taylor of Houston.

Ricky Ledger
Dec. 9, 1953 — March 14, 2001

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Ricky Ledger, 47, of Okmulgee, Okla., are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Leonard Driskell of the Murray Street Church of Christ will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Ledger died Wednesday in St. Frances Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

He was born in Temple and lived in Okmulgee for four years. He was a butcher for a retail grocery. He was raised in Groves, Texas, but lived most of his adult life in Oklahoma.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Ledger of Groves; a son, Jeffrey Ledger of Okmulgee; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina and Joe Lietka and Angie Pollard, all of Okmulgee; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Larry Judice of Bridge City, Texas, Freddie and J.W. Robinson and Robin and Charles Cropper, all of Groves; and two grandchildren.

Mable Peavy Williams
Feb. 22, 1934 — March 9, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Mable Peavy Williams, 67, of Montgomery are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Holland Baptist Church in Navasota.

Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Williams died Friday in Tomball Regional Hospital.

She was born in Grimes County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Grey Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Darcine Peavy and Jessie and Carolyn Peavy, all of Navasota, and Willie Peavy of Waco; seven sisters and four brothers-in-law, Evelyn Gaines of Navasota, Elsie and Will West of Houston, Johnnie and Willie Mayes and Stella and A.C. Manning, all of Montgomery, Josie Cross of Austin, Elnora Gorney of Youngstown, Ohio, and Georgia and Ike Easley of Elgin.

Jennie Rodgers
Nov. 28, 1913 — March 11, 2001

Services for Jennie Rodgers, 87, of San Antonio and formerly of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mrs. Rodgers died Sunday in San Antonio.

She was born in the Steel Store community of Brazos County and lived in Brazos and Burleson counties for 70 years. She was a retired grocery owner and operator. She and her husband owned and operated the Riverside Grocery in the Steel Store community for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julious Rodgers.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Hank Fraser of San Antonio; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Louis and Ruth Morello and Matt Morello, all of Bryan; two sisters, Lucille Listi of Houston and Laura Nelson of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Yolanda Morello of Bryan; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Rosa Lee Nichols
June 28, 1923 — March 15, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Rosa Lee Nichols, 77, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church in Burleson County.

The Rev. Steve Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Macedonia-Hix Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Nichols died Thursday in St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.

She was born in Burleson County and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Wesley Nichols, and a daughter, Linda Sue Nichols.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnnie and Patsy Nichols of Elkhart, Texas, and Larry and Dana Nichols of Port Lavaca; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Harry Ray of College Station and Shirley and the Rev. Darrel Seale of Manila, Philippines; two brothers, Ernest Loehr of Denver and Walter Loehr of Freeport; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Anne LaFollette
April 14, 1923 — March 16, 2001

Services for Anne LaFollette, 77, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Angels in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ms. LaFollette died Friday in College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Pricedale, Pa., and lived in College Station for a year. She previously lived in Colorado and Houston. She was retired as vice president and sales manager of John Daughtery Realty in Houston.

She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Edward LaFollette.

Survivors include a son, Sherman Robert LaFollette of College Station; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward George and Irene Nakles of Connellsville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lester D. Jackson
Sept. 15, 1928 — March 17, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Lester D. Jackson, 72, of Cameron are set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Tim Cheatham of Battetown Baptist Church in Cameron will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Jackson died Saturday in Kings Daughters Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Milam County and lived in Cameron for 13 years. He was raised and lived most of his life in Rockdale. He was supervisor for Kerr-Bann in Taylor for 20 years. He spent the last 20 years with the King of Swing Band. He attended the Marlow Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Rockdale VFW Post No. 6525.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Jackson of Cameron; a daughter, Debbie Melton of Cameron; a sister, Evonell McMillian of Houston; and a grandson.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Iraida ‘YaYa’ Linares
May 16, 1918 — March 17, 2001

Graveside services for Iraida “YaYa” Linares, 82, of Bryan will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mrs. Linares died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Pinar del Rioa, Cuba, and was a retired seamstress for Nita’s Square Dance Co. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raul Linares.

Survivors include two sisters, Nieves Fleitas of Bryan and Minerva Estrada of Florida; a niece; two nephews; two great-nephews; a great-great-niece; and a great-great-nephew.

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Johnnie Lee Carter Schroeder
Feb. 18, 1918 — March 17, 2001

BEDIAS — Services for Johnnie Lee Carter Schroeder, 83, of Bedias are set for 2:30 p.m. Monday at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

The Revs. Lon McVeigh and Don Wardlow will officiate. Burial will be in Joyze Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schroeder died Saturday at her home.

She was born in New Waverly, Texas, and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Attmer Schroeder.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and C.C. Springfield of Bedias; a son, Jim Schroeder of Crosby; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
