WOODLANDS — Services for Millie V. Smith, 92, of The Woodlands, and formerly of Stoneham, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham. The Rev. Edward C. Kucera Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Smith died Monday in The Woodlands.

She was born in Bluffsprings, Texas. She was a welder for Hughes Tool Co. She was a member of the Alter Society, Stoneham Community Center and served as an election judge. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith, and a daughter, LaNell Hancock.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Linda Curington of The Woodlands; a son-in-law, John H. Hancock of Columbus; a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Valera Miles of Houston; two sisters, Mae Davidson of Conroe and Sue Curry of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Charles Enoch Renner Jr.
May 9, 1933 — March 20, 2001

RIVERSIDE, Texas — Graveside service for Charles Enoch Renner Jr., 67, of Riverside are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ben Arnold Cemetery near Cameron. Ed Evans and Walter Hicks III will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Renner died Tuesday in a Conroe Hospital.

He was born in Cherry Valley, Ark. He graduated from Cherry Valley High School and the University of Arkansas. He was a project representative for KSA Engineers for 41 years. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Renner of Riverside; a stepson, William James King of Alvarado, Texas; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Renee Schisser of Riverside; his brothers, Leon Renner of Dennison and Roger Renner of Sherman, Texas; his sister, Margaret Pennington of Sherman, and six step-grandchildren.

Ronald Patrick Williams
Oct. 25, 1959 — March 18, 2001

LOCKHART — Services for Ronald Patrick Williams, 41, of Lockhart, and formerly of Leavenworth, Kan. are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fall Creek Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. Chaplain Jack Divine will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mr. Williams died Sunday in Lockhart.

He was born in Leavenworth, Kan. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include his son, Douglas Williams of Sharon, Wis.; his daughter, Darci Williams of Sharon, Wis.; his father, Rex Williams of Leavenworth, Kan.; his mother, Patricia Williams of Leavenworth, Kan.; his sisters, Joni Cline and Lisa Knox, both of Leavenworth, Kan., and Laura Henrick of Lockhart.

Margaret Martha Piwonka
Nov. 20, 1922 — March 20, 2001

Services for Margaret Martha Piwonka, 78, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. The Rev. John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Piwonka died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Burleson County. She was a registered nurse and worked for the Brazos County Health Department until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Texas Nurses Association, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary No. 159, and a member of the St. Joseph Alter Guild and the K.J.Z.T. Mrs. Piwonka was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Piwonka of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Yvonne Piwonka of San Angelo; a daughter, Katy Kowalski of San Antonio; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Church Building Fund.

Alvarene Milligan Baccus Wight
Feb. 25, 1922 — March 20, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Alvarene Milligan Baccus Wight, 79, of Somerville are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville. The Rev. Mark Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Wight died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Groveton, Texas. She graduated from Trinity High School and from Sam Houston State University. She was a teacher at the Somerville Independent School District from 1942-1984. She served as secretary for the Somerville ISD trustees. Mrs. Wight was an active member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Burleson County Teachers Association, Somerville Parent-Teacher Association and the Somerville Historical Society. She also was a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Billie M. Wight of Somerville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Camilia Godfrey of Snook and Donna and Rick Hill of College Station; a sister, Oralene Baker of Snook; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Somerville, Somerville ISD or the Somerville Historical Society.

Mary Garcia

April 17, 1947 — March 21, 2001

Services for Mary Garcia, 53, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Templo Sulamita in Bryan. The Rev. Edward Hernandez will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Templo Sulamita. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Garcia died Wednesday at her home in Bryan.

She was born in Snook. She was a window glazer for Reliant Building Products (formerly Alenco). She was a member of the Templo Sulamita.

Survivors include her husband, Joe M. Garcia of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, John “J.J.” and Christy Garcia of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Antonio Mireles of Bryan; 11 sisters and 10 brothers-in-law, Rosa and Rodney Munoz of Dallas, Cruz and Marcello Hernandez of Bryan, Stella and Jose Rodriguez of Bryan, Isabel Contreras and Jose Alfarro of Navasota, Terri and Enrique Ybarra of Bryan, Carmen Sifuentez of Bryan, Lupe and Jim Mader of Bryan, Suzie and Dan Perry of Benchley, Josie and Peter Schredler of Houston, Janie and Ernest Morales of Nacogdoches, Mary Helen and Tony Savala of Bryan; and four grandchildren.

William D. Lewis
Feb. 4, 1934 — March 18, 2001

Services for William D. Lewis, 67, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at West Union Baptist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Anthony Lang of West Union Baptist Church and the Rev. Charles Jefferson of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Lewis died Sunday in Temple.

He was born in Burleson County. He retired from the city of Bryan. He was one of the organizers of West Union Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a special friend, Grace Eddington of Bryan; a brother, Houston Branch of Denver; and a sister, Catherine Branch Benford of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to the West Union Baptist Church.

Joseph Solomon
Sept. 25, 1930 — March 17, 2001

Services for Joseph Solomon, 70, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. The Rev. U.L. Green of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Wheelock Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and a wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Solomon died Saturday in Dallas.

He was born in Brazos County and was a retired laborer. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a special friend, Fannie Jones of Marlin; a son, Morris E. Solomon of Houston; four daughters, Thelma Betties and Faith Nowlin, both of Bryan, Betty Nutall of Albuquerque, N.M., and Linda Heggins of Houston; four brothers, Theodore Solomon Jr., Charles E. Solomon, David H. Solomon and Carl Solomon, all of Los Angeles; three sisters, Valarie Caldwell of Bryan and Rachael Tramble and Carol Solomon, both of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Joe Alvis Sweat
March 19, 1928 — March 21, 2001

NACOGDOCHES — Services for Joe Alvis Sweat, 73, of Nacogdoches are set for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. The Rev. David Campbell, the Rev. Dan Thompson and Dr. Allen Reed will officiate. Entombment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Laird-McGill Funeral Home in Nacogdoches.

Mr. Sweat died Wednesday in a Nacogdoches hospital.

He was born in Wellington, Texas. He had retired in January after 45 years with the Texas Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Thompson Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. He had served as president of the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club and past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis Division 14 from 1998 to 1999. Mr. Sweat was a member of the Milam No. 2 Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He served on the original Expo Center Board, the Little League Baseball Board, school board and numerous other civic and community boards. He served in the U.S. Navy and was in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Sweat of Nacogdoches; two sons, Jim Sweat of College Station and Don Sweat of Houston; a daughter, Sherrie Waller of Kenner, La.; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mission Assist Team, P.O. Box 632494, Nacogdoches, Texas 75963.

Keith Jerone Stubblefield Sr.

Feb. 7, 1964 — March 18, 2001

Services for Keith Jerone Stubblefield Sr., 37, of Harris County, formerly of Bryan, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Christian Outreach Center.

The Rev. Winfred D. Garrett Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Outreach Center.

Mr. Stubblefield died Sunday in Spring Branch Hospital.

He was born in Houston. Mr. Stubblefield was the manager of Captain D’s and was a member of Zion Christian Outreach Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Dianne Stubblefield of Houston; three sons, Keith Jerone Stubblefield Jr., Kendall Wayne Stubblefield and Kendrick Ray Stubblefield, all of Houston; a daughter, Korietta Leshay Stubblefield of Houston; three brothers, Reggie Stubblefield, Carl Stubblefield and Steve Stubblefield, all of Houston; and three sisters, Evangeline Holmes, Renae Laws and Shaundra Combie, all of Houston.

Marie Simpson

Sept. 24, 1933 — March 21, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Marie Simpson, 67, of Madisonville are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Madisonville Funeral Home. The Rev. James Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the West End Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Simpson died Wednesday at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Madisonville.

She was born in Normangee and lived most of her life in Madisonville, where she worked as a nurse’s aide at the nursing home. Mrs. Simpson was a member of the Johnson Memorial Holiness Church.

Survivors include six sons and four daughters-in-law, Mack Porter, Jessie Simpson and Darrell and Donna Simpson, all of Madisonville, Jimmy and Lorraine Simpson of Lubbock, Oran and Carolyn Simpson of Huntsville and Johnny and Kathy Simpson of Crockett; three daughters and a son-in-law, Georgia Whale, Betty and Richard Simpson and Mary Simpson, all of Madisonville; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Vivian Templeton Lewis

Aug. 23, 1917 — March 21, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Vivian Templeton Lewis, 83, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville. The Rev. Mark Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday with the family present from 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. Sunday until service time.

Mrs. Lewis died Wednesday at Trinity Care Center in Brenham.

She was born in Somerville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Woodmen of the World and an active member of the Somerville Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.B. Lewis.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Forrest “Buddy” and Julia Lewis of Wharton, Texas; a sister, Marguerite Lewis of Somerville; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
