Services for Ysidro Garcia Sr., 84, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Victor Robles of St. Teresa Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Garcia died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Aguacalientes, Mexico, and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He was retired from Callaway Lumber Company and was a member of the Lulac Club and St. Teresa Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria C. Garcia.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ysidro Jr. and Elia Garcia and Roy Sr. and Susie Garcia, all of Bryan, and Richard Garcia of Houston; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Rosie Ortiz, Yolanda and John Rosser, Mary Helen and J.J. Ramirez, Melva and Rod Mireles, Annie and Julian Ramirez Jr. and Linda Garcia, all of Bryan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Sr. and Josephine Garcia of Bryan, Albert “Beto” and Alberta Garcia and Emilio and Dora Alvarado, all of Hearne; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pabla and Jesse Martinez of Bryan and Jessie and Manuel Villalpando of Hearne; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Teresa Catholic Church Building Fund, 1212 Lucky Street, Bryan, Texas 77803.

Mary Henslee Beckler

Dec. 14, 1918 — April 30, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Mary Henslee Beckler, 82, of Huntsville are set for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.

Bro. Don Grigsby will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home and again after the service Wednesday.

Mrs. Beckler died Monday in Huntsville Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Mount Vernon and was a homemaker and a butcher.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, J.W. and Ann Turner, Joseph Turner and Ronnie Rahm, all of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lois and Joseph Caine of Bedias, Ann Edwards of Mississippi, Virginia and Dewey Birchfield of Memphis and Sue and Don Williams of South Carolina; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carroll Bell

Jan. 2, 1929 — April 30, 2001

Services for Carroll Bell, 72, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

The Rev. Msgr. John Malinowski will officiate. Burial will be in Naugatuck, Conn.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bell died Monday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Mount Pleasant and lived in College Station for 54 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a colonel and was owner and operator of Clocks & Collectibles in College Station. He was past president of the Capitol Area Guild of Texas Watchmakers and Clockmaker Association. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bryan and received his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. He taught at Stephen F. Austin and Bryan High Schools and Texas A&M University.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Bell of College Station.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or the Brazos Valley Animal Shelter.

Julie Covey

Oct. 22, 1920 — April 30, 2001

NAVASOTA — Graveside services for Julie Covey, 80, of Navasota are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Devine.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Covey died Monday in Canterbury Villa of Navasota.

She was born in Cameron and lived in Navasota for five years. She formerly resided in Devine and Hondo. She was a retired dietitian for Medina Memorial Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Covey.

Survivors include five daughters, Alice Saathoff of Grand Prairie, Barbara Neuman Coats, Shirley Covey Lopez, Rita Bohack and Sally Linder, all of Navasota; two brothers, Joe Simecek and Alfred Simecek, both of Temple; a sister, Martha Allen of Montana; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Zelma Driver Ferguson

Sept. 28, 1910 — April 30, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Zelma Driver Ferguson, 90, of LaPorte are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.

The Rev. Larry Pinckard will officiate. Burial will be in Allphin Cemetery near the Ellwood community.

Mrs. Ferguson died Monday at the Happy Harbor Nursing Home.

She was born in the Ellwood community and was a former member of the Assembly of God Church in Midway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ferguson; and two sons, Robert Ferguson Jr. and Billy Jean Ferguson.

Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Marie and Don Crow of Port Isabell, Wilma and Herbert Hees of Friendswood, Mary and Marerice Taylor of Baytown, Nell and Dexter Davis of Clear Lake and Diane and Robert Harris of Dayton; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Joe and Linda Ferguson of Shephard; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Roger John Hinze

March 24, 1924 — April 29, 2001

BURTON — Services for Roger John Hinze, 77, of the La Bahia community are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine.

The Rev. Paul Bohot will officiate. Burial will be in the Carmine Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hinze died Sunday in Bryan.

He was born in the La Bahia community was retired after 28 years with Maddox Furniture in Brenham. He was also a cotton farmer and rancher. He was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, was president of Men in Mission and was on the Christian Education and Stewardship committees for many years.

He was also a member and director of the La Bahia Turn Verein and the La Bahia Cemetery Association, the Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, the Carmine Chamber of Commerce and the Burton Chamber of Commerce. He was director of the Washington County Farm Bureau at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Le Verne; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joyce Hinze of Giddings; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wade Eilers of Carmine; a brother and sister-in-law, Elfon and L. Dee Hinze; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Bernice and J.R. Loewe and Berdie Siegmund; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine.

Mozell Leasure

June 26, 1917 — April 29, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Mozell Leasure, 83, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

The Rev. Roy Norsworthy will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leasure died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Chaffee, Mo., and lived in Somerville since 1975. She was a former resident of Houston and Missouri. She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Izear Leasure; and a son, Ronald Leasure.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Kim Leasure and David and Monica Leasure, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Stella Mills and Onita Schearf, both of Chaffee; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearl Weir McCrary

Jan. 22, 1915 — April 30, 2001

FRANKLIN — Services for Pearl Weir McCrary of Neosho, Mo., and formerly of Franklin are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Franklin Church of Christ.

Ray Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Bald Prairie Cemetery in Robertson County.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mrs. McCrary died Monday.

She was born in the Bald Prairie community of Burleson County and lived most of her life in Robertson County. She was retired as a nurse after 21 years at Hearne Hospital and was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard William McCrary; and a son, Orval Darwin McCrary.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Ann McCrary and Robert Williams of Neosho; a daughter-in-law, Betty McCrary of Calvert; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Thomas Parry

July 30, 1926 — April 30, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for James Thomas Parry, 74, of Leona are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Evans Chapel Cemetery in Leona.

The Rev. Barron Harris will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Parry died Monday at his home.

He was born in Gary, Ind., and lived in Leon County for six years. He formerly was a resident of San Clemente, Calif. He was owner and president of Parry Associates, a marketing research firm for products. He was a graduate of Indiana University and received his master’s degree from Northwestern University.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Parry of Leona; three daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Jean and Jeff Webb of Las Vegas, Karen Parry of Big Bear, Calif., and Rochelle Joy of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Donald Parry of Florida; and a sister-in-law, Joan Parry of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Mack Emmitt Pierce

March 14, 1937 — April 29, 2001

CORSICANA — Services for Mack Emmitt Pierce, 63, of Corsicana and formerly of Hearne are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Elam Missionary Baptist Church in Hearne.

The Rev. O.W. Mack will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the M.R. Smith Parlor for Funerals in Corsicana.

Mr. Pierce died Sunday in Corsicana.

He was born in Hearne and served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Roxie Pierce of Corsicana; a son, Vincient Pierce of College Station; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Clara McNeil and Samuel T. and Emma J. Pierce, all of Hearne; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Chanie Pierce of Hearne, Jewel Pierce and Harold Flenoy of Bryan and Beaulah Pierce and Clifton Smith of Suisun, Calif.; and numerous other relatives.

Plummer ‘Pete’ Swearingen

Oct. 2, 1929 — April 30, 2001

NORMANGEE — Services for Plummer “Pete” Swearingen, 71, of Hilltop Lakes are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hilltop Lakes Chapel.

Bros. Bob Kristensen and Chuck Isibell of Hilltop Lakes Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Gardens in Houston.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.

Mr. Swearingen died Monday in St. Joseph Regional health Center.

He was born in Houston and lived in Hilltop Lakes for eight and a half years. He was retired after 15 years in Record Management for Houston Lighting and Power. He was a member of Hilltop Lakes Chapel and the Lions Club. He was past director of E.M.S. at Hilltop Lakes and was deacon at First Baptist Church in Channelview.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Swearingen of Hilltop Lakes; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Chocs Lambgrede, Cheryl and Clyde Russell and Deanna and Donny Mayo, all of Houston; a sister, Berta Lee Gracey of Hilltop Lakes; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

B.D. Tarpley

Oct. 27, 1928 — April 30, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for B.D. Tarpley, 72, of the Elwood community are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elwood Baptist Church.

The Rev. Bob Hendricks will officiate. Burial will be in the Allphin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mr. Tarpley died Monday in Bryan.

He was born and raised in the Elwood community of Madison County and returned there in 1980 after 30 years in Houston. He retired from the Yellow Freight Transit where he worked as a truck driver. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Madisonville Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Charleton Tarpley of the Elwood community; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Don and Carolyn Tarpley of the Elwood community; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherry Faye and Larry Gene Leverett of Houston, Jeraldine and James Hardy Peyton of Leona and Joyce Ann Carroll of Bryan; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clara Welch

AUSTIN — Services for Clara Welch, 78, of Austin are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Austin.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Welch died Saturday.

Tiffany Amber Wilson

Sept. 25, 1985 — April 29, 2001

JEWETT — Services for Tiffany Amber Wilson, 15, of Concord are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ricks Funeral Home in Jewett.

The Rev. Ray Payne of Ephesus Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Tiffany died Sunday as the result of a traffic accident.

She was born in Baytown and was a student at Leon High School. She formerly lived in Highlands and Jewett and was a member of the Leon H.S. band. She was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Danny R. Sr. and Holly Wilson of Concord; two brothers, Danny R. Wilson Jr. and Clint T. Wilson, both of Concord; grandparents, Floyd and Fay Squire and Shirley T. Wilson Eakes, all of Highlands; three uncles; three aunts; and numerous other relatives.

Ruth M. White

Feb. 14, 1924 — April 30, 2001

BRENHAM — Ruth M. White, 77, of Brenham died Monday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Miss White was born in Omaha, Neb. She received an RN degree from Methodist Hospital in Houston, an AA degree from the University of Houston, a B.S in educational psychology from North Texas State Teacher College in Denton, and an M.S. degree from the University of Texas in Austin.

She worked at the University of Colorado School of Nursing from 1969-70 an d 1973-74. She was retired from West Nebraska General Hospital. Miss White was an accomplished lecturer and administrator and served on the clinical faculty at the University of Nebraska. She also served on the California State Board of Nursing Examiners and Nebraska State Board of Nursing Examiners.

Wilma Lucille Richardson

Feb. 21, 1930 — April 30, 2001

LEXINGTON, Texas — Services for Wilma Lucille Richardson, 71, of Lexington are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. The Rev. Joel Stevenson of Tangelwood Baptist Church will officiate.

Mrs. Richardson died Monday at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Lexington. She was a houseparent at the Giddings State Home and School for 15 years. She was a member and the treasurer of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, I.J. “Gee” Richardson.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Cyndie Richardson, Phillip and Gloria Richardson, Alan and Cheryl Richardson, all of Lexington; a sister, Irene Rhodes of San Angelo; and 10 grandchildren.
