Ernest A. 'Chili' Pursley

April 11, 1914 — May 13, 2001

HEARNE — Graveside services for Ernest A. “Chili” Pursley, 87, of Hearne are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne.

The Rev. George “Butch” Smith of Living Hope Baptist Church in College Station will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Pursley died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Pine Valley, Texas, and was a longtime resident of Hearne. He was retired and was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Hearne.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Pursley of Hearne; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven Pursley of College Station, Stanley and Patricia Pursley of Aurora, Colo., and Dan Pursley of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jim Miller of Richman; a brother, Floyd Pursley of Magnolia; two sisters, Dorothy Allison of Baytown and Cheslee Hurt of Bryan; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Jeanette Raisor

Sept. 2, 1912 — May 8, 2001

HINTON, W. Va. — Services for Helen Jeanette Raisor, 88, of Hinton are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. The Rev. Brian Fisher of Grace Bible Church will officiate. Entombment will be at Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Mrs. Raisor died Tuesday at Summers County ARH Hospital in West Virginia.

She was born in Stoops Ferry, Pa., and lived in Hilldale since 1965. She was active in the Eastern Star, where she served as the head grand matron. She was Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, McAlpin Mack Raisor.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harry and JoAnn Raisor of College Station; a sister, Harriett Hill of Chiefland, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Josephine Campise Patranella

Feb. 10, 1911 — May 14, 2001

BEAUMONT — Services for Josephine Campise Patranella, 90, of Beaumont are set 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Patranella died Monday at Clairemont Nursing Home in Beaumont.

She was born in Bryan and was a homemaker and member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul P. Patranella.

Survivors include a brother, Murray Campise of Beaumont; and two sisters, Mary Sparks of Orange, Texas, and Lena Kattawar of Beaumont.

Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony Building Fund.

Lucia ‘Lucille’ Schultz

May 28, 1913 — May 14, 2001

Services for Lucia “Lucille” Schultz, 87, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schultz died Monday at her home.

She was born in Kaufman, Texas, and lived in College Station since 1934. She was a registered histologist at Texas A&M University. She was the past president of the St. Clair’s Altar Society and member of the Age Managers.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Schultz of College Station; a brother, August Beran of Mesquite; and a sister, Majka Clark of Canon City, Colo.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School Fund.

Eugene Leslie Miller

April 23, 1919 — May 14, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Eugene Leslie Miller, 82, of Brenham are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brenham Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Brad Munroe will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Rest Cemetery near Brenham.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Miller died Monday in Brenham.

He was born in Tulsa, Okla. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Oklahoma State University. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was a lieutenant colonel.

He was chairman of the board of Cooper Industries in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. He served as president of the Diesel Engine Manufacturers Association and president and chairman of the Compressed Air and Gas Institute. He was involved with many community organizations.

Mr. Miller was the 14th person to be inducted into the Oklahoma State University Engineering Hall of Fame in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Cooley Miller of Brenham; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew S. and Dodie Miller of Brenham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and William Powell of Gainesville, Texas, and Melissa and Carl Rush of Houston; a brother, William E. Miller of Tulsa; a sister, Pauline Nations of Claremore, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brenham Presbyterian Church, 900 S. Jackson St. or the charity of one’s choice.

Kaicci Shimaani Wyatt

Jan. 18, 1984 — May 12, 2001

Services for Kaicci Shimaani Wyatt, 17, of Bryan are set for 9 a.m. Thursday at G.W. Tabernacle in Bryan. The Rev. Fred G. Ford of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Kaicci died Saturday in Bryan.

She was born in Bryan and was a junior at Bryan High School. She was a member of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Brazos Valley, a mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of Bryan, and a guard on the varsity basketball team. She was a member of the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Carl Levernice Wyatt of Arlington and Christopher Scott Wyatt of Bryan; five sisters, Kimberley Wyatt, Taylor Reese, Stephani Reese, Brittany Reese and BreAlan Reese, all of Bryan; her parents, Beverly and Allan Reese and Robert Wyatt Jr., all of Bryan; her grandparents, Odessa Thurman, Mary Jackson, and Robert Wyatt Sr., all of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to the Kaicci Wyatt Memorial Scholarship Fund at First American Bank.

Natasha Noel Gafford

June 21, 1987 — May 13, 2001

Services for Natasha Noel Gafford, 13, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Lee Chapel United Methodist Church in Bryan. The Rev. Floyd J. Polk Sr. of Lee Chapel United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Natasha died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Bryan and attended Jane Long Middle School. She was a member of the NYSP of Texas A&M University, and the Boys and Girls Club. She was a member of the Lee Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Jesse Gafford, Travis Burns, Bobby Thomas and Charles Hawkins Jr., all of Bryan; seven sisters, Carisma Gafford, Mekia Gafford, Rhonda Thomas, Erica Hardy, Taushaina Hawkins, Ayesha Hardy and Tiffany Johnson, all of Bryan; her parents, Francine Gafford and Charles Gafford, both of Bryan; and her grandmother, Mildred Gibbs of Bryan.

Samuel ‘Sam’ Lee Laymon

Aug. 26, 1954 — May 12, 2001

Services for Samuel “Sam” Lee Laymon, 46, of Bryan, and formerly of Centerville, are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Greater Mt. Calm Pine Top Baptist Church, south of Centerville. The Rev. Elmer Phillips of Ebenezer Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ward Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with a wake from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mr. Laymon died Saturday in Bryan.

He was born in Corsicana. He graduated from Centerville High School and worked as an assembler for a trailer manufacturing company. He lived in Bryan the past four years.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Willie L. Rhinehart of Centerville; a son, Samora Laymon of Centerville; four daughters, Latanya Laymon Williams and Kiceshi Laymon, both of Ft. Worth, and Simia Laymon and Alshundria Laymon, both of Centerville; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Beria Johnson, and Fred and Mary Johnson, all of Ft. Worth, Willie James and Loicy Johnson of Houston and Sylvester Laymon of Centerville; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Russell Anderson of Houston; six grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Clay Burnett Ritchie
April 29, 1954 — May 14, 2001

A Graveside service for Clay Burnett Ritchie, 47, of College Station is set for 4 p.m. Thursday at Suggs Cemetery near Hearne. The Rev. Henry Stovall of Trinity Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mr. Ritchie died Monday at the University of Texas Health Medical Center in Tyler.

He was born in Dumas, Texas. He was a truck driver. He had been a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Bryan. Mr. Ritchie served in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ritchie of Buchanan Dam; a son, David Jones of Bryan; a sister-in-law, Philene Ritchie of Bryan; and one grandchild.

Louise Otillie Howe Hupe
April 6, 1904 — May 15, 2001

INDUSTRY, Texas — Services for Louise Otillie Howe Hupe, 97, of Industry are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Industry United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Harrell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Visitation also will be at Industry United Methodist Church from 7 a.m. to service time at the church.

Mrs. Hupe died Tuesday in Colonial Belle Nursing Home in Bellville. She was born in New Ulm, Texas. She graduated from New Ulm High School and received her teacher’s certificate in San Marcos. She was a member of Industry United Methodist Church and previously was a member of New Ulm Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Bertha Circle and taught Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred O. Hupe.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wilfred and Dorothy Hupe of Brenham, Ralph Hupe of Texas City; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Donald Morris of Pearland; two sisters, Elinor Franke of Industry, Carla Smith of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Industry United Methodist Church.

Maria Rodriguez DeJesus
Oct. 7, 1926 — May 15, 2001

Services for Maria Rodriguez DeJesus, 74, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan. The Rev. Victor Robles will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. DeJesus died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Clave Llinas, Zaca Teras, Mexico. She lived in Bryan for 34 years. She was homemaker and a member of the St. Teresa Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Z. DeJesus.

Survivors include seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Oscar DeJesus, Raul Sergio and Martha DeJesus, Servando and Marianna DeJesus, Salvador and Gloria DeJesus, Jr., Jose Manuel and Francis DeJesus, Javier Francisco and Dora DeJesus, all of Bryan; Ruben and Teresa DeJesus of Edinburg, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maria Teresa and Ralph Gaitan and Siomara DeJesus, all of Bryan; her brother and sister-in-law, Candido and Ermina Rodriguez of Mexico; two sisters, Alexandria Castillo, Beatrice Bustos, both of Bryan; and 28 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Teresa Catholic Church.

Charlie Ralph Bruton
July 29, 1921 — May 15, 2001

A memorial service for Charlie Ralph Bruton, 79, of Bryan is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rock Prairie Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Sloan will officiate.
Mr. Bruton died Tuesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Young County. He retired from Sears as the catalog store owner. Mr. Bruton served in the United States Army-Air Force. He was a corporal. He was a member of the Rock Prairie Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Jenny” Bruton of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan Dale and Karen Bruton of Bryan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Bertie Bruton of Olney, Texas, Garnell and Wanda Bruton of Granbury; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Jean and Bill Buchalla of Brenham, Margie Higgins of Post; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Rock Prairie Baptist Church, 2405 Rock Prairie Rd., C.S., 77845.
