Nov. 26, 1921 — May 17, 2001

HEARNE — Services for Matthew Boyle, 79, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

The Rev. Nicolas Dyke of St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Hearne will officiate. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Boyle died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Hearne 53 years. He was retired as maintenance foreman for GATX in Hearne. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 361 in Hearne. He was also a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ina Faye Hinton Boyle of Hearne; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dixie Boyle of Austin; a sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Andy O’Brien of Levittown, N.Y.; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a niece.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Phillips Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 952, Hearne, Texas 77859.

Kathleen Weaver Campbell
Aug. 27, 1903 — May 18, 2001

NAVASOTA — Graveside services for Kathleen Weaver Campbell, 97, of Stephenville are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Courtney Cemetery in Courtney.
Binford Weaver will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mrs. Weaver died Friday in the Stephenville Nursing Home.

She was born in the Lynn Grove community and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. She was a retired teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John R. Campbell.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charleen and Jack Murray of Dublin, Texas; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Aylene Campbell of Bastrop and Gladys Weaver of Houston.

Memorials may be made to Hope House, P.O. Box 457, Liberty Hill, Texas 78642.

John Cecil ‘J.C.’ Easley
May 12, 2001 — May 17, 2001

WALLER — Graveside services for John Cecil “J.C.” Easley, infant, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Waller Catholic Cemetery.

The Rev. Richard Wilson will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Canon Funeral Home in Waller.
John died Thursday.

Survivors include his parents, John Wayne Jr. and Kimberly Michelle Parker Easley; grandparents, Michael and Thais Parker and John Wayne Sr. and Mary Easley; great-grandparents Mary Parker and Rosa Lee Parker, and numerous aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in J.C.’s name to a charity of choice.

Cindy Kay Weise Ebersol
March 31, 1957 — May 18, 2001

ROCKDALE — Services for Cindy Kay Weise Ebersol, 44, of the Sharp community near Rockdale are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale.

The Rev. James Mann of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Ebersol died Friday at her home.

She was born in Taylor and lived in the Sharp community 15 years. She was a former resident of Austin and was the community supervisor officer with the Milam County Department of Community Supervision for 13 years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. She was a graduate of Thorndale High School and Texas A&M University.

Survivors include her husband, Barry A. Ebersol of Sharp; her mother, Laverne Weise of Thorndale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vickie and Robert Vitek of Hutto and Wendy and Mark Sims of Parker, Colo.; three nephews and a niece.

Floyd Earl Hahn
Jan. 5, 1942 — May 18, 2001

BRENHAM — Services for Floyd Earl Hahn, 59, of Brenham are set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.

The Rev. Lawrence Bade will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Mr. Hahn died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was employed by Seeker Distributing, which later became Wright Distributing, for 35 years until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hinze Hahn; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Henry Schmidt of Houston; his mother-in-law, Almeida Hinze of Brenham; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Ruth Schulte and May Dell and Harold Kuhlmann, all of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorials may be made to the TV Ministry of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.

Knox Kelley
July 21, 1917 — May 17, 2001

Services for Knox Kelley, 83, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at G.W. Tabernacle in Bryan.

The Rev. U.L. Green of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mr. Kelley died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He was retired from the Large Animal Clinic at Texas A&M University. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Kelley of Bryan; six sons, Mack Kelley of Houston, Knox Kelley Jr., Robert Kelley, Dervin Crawford, Gregory Kelley and Derrick Gordon, all of Bryan; seven daughters, Alice Hicks of Muskogee, Okla., Ester Harris, Carolyn Green, Sharon Densey and Johnnie Oliver, all of Bryan, Cynthia Kelley of College Station and Leshate Green of Midland; a sister, Sylvia Williams of Houston; 41 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Morna Beth Crowley Vassar
May 18, 1935 — May 18, 2001

JEWETT — Graveside services for Morna Beth Crowley Vassar, 66, of Jewett are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Little Flock Cemetery in Jewett.

The Rev. George Ibarra of Living Word World Church in Groesbeck will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ricks Funeral Home in Jewett.

Mrs. Vassar died Friday at her home.

She was born in New Mexico and lived in Jewett 25 years. She was a Baptist. She was an assistant therapist at the Mexia State School and also worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator and as a home health care nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Vassar.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mace Macy of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond “Rusty” and Tonya Vassar of Jewett; her parents, Pete Bernard Crowley of LaGrange and Johnnie Faye Crowley of Teague; a brother, James Crowley of Houston; two brothers-in-law, James Vassar of Henderson and J.D. Vassar of Jewett; four grandchildren, a great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Walter
April 23, 1934 — May 16, 2001

NAVASOTA — Services for Robert Walter, 67, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Holland Baptist Church in Navasota.

The Rev. Bennie Steptoe of St. Holland Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Island Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota.

Mr. Walter died Wednesday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Courtney and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Holland Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gracie Walter of Navasota; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John Walter of Newport News, Va., Roger and Patrice Walter of Navasota and Calvin Walter of Beaumont; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Laurence Rodgers and Lillian and James Shepard, all of Navasota, and Shelia and Isaac Brown of Washington; and 15 grandchildren.

Stephanie Virginia Schultz May
March 13, 1970 — May 19, 2001

Services for Stephanie Virginia Schultz May, 31, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Revs. Tim Skaggs and Chris Osborne of Central Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Ms. May died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and graduated from Bryan High School in 1988. She was employed by We Love ’em too Daycare and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Colby May of Bryan; a daughter, Brittany Schultz of Bryan; her parents, Rudy and Linda Schultz of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Trey and Shelly Schultz of Bryan; and grandmother, Geneva Lane of Bryan.

Irene Stanley Cumings
Jan. 6, 1914 — May 20, 2001

SOMERVILLE — Services for Irene Stanley Cumings, 87, of Somerville are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

Cecil H. Lang will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cumings died Sunday in Beechnut Manor Nursing Home in Houston.

She was born in Somerville and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Somerville. She was retired from the Brenham State School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Cumings.

Survivors include two nieces; three great-nephews; and three great-nieces.

Opal Grisham Heuitt
April 20, 1927 — May 19, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Opal Grisham Heuitt, 74, of Houston are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Allphin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Heuitt died Saturday in Houston.

She was born in Madisonville and lived in Houston for 46 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Heuitt.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Heuitt and James and Linda Heuitt, all of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve McCuen of Houston; a sister, Linda Huebner of Houston; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

George Dewey Hughes
July 7, 1927 — May 20, 2001

FRANKLIN — Services for George Dewey Hughes, 73, of Easterly, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Baden First Baptist Church in New Baden.
The Rev. Dwain Steinkuehler of Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Easterly Cemetery in Easterly.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Hughes died Sunday in Franklin.

He was born in Leon County and was a member of the New Baden First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Franklin VFW Post No. 9873. He worked for GATX in Hearne for 27 years and worked for the Franklin Schools for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Hughes; and a son, George David Hughes.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Glen and Peggy Hughes of College Station; a daughter-in-law, Jan Hughes of Easterly; two brothers-in-law, James K. Calhoun of Franklin and Calvin Varner of San Marcos; two sisters-in-law, Rose Varner of San Marcos and Winnie Hughes of Pasadena; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Baden First Baptist Church.

Jennie V. Novosad
Oct. 28, 1941 — May 20, 2001

CALDWELL — Graveside services for Jennie V. Novosad, 59, of Sugarland are set for 11:30 a.m. at Providence Cemetery in Caldwell.

Glenn Little will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Novosad died Sunday in Houston.

She was born in Houston and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Billy J. Novosad of Sugarland; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky Novosad and Randy and Michelle Novosad, all of Sugarland; and two grandchildren.

Merle Almay Covill

March 10, 1912 — May 20, 2001

Services for Merle Almay Covill, 89, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Union Church in Grandfalls, Texas.

Burial will be in Tamarisk Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mrs. Covill died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Thurber, Texas, and lived in Bryan three years. She owned and operated the Red Bluff Lumber companies and was a member of Union Church in Grandfalls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Covill.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Robert Street of Bryan and Shirley and H.L. Jordan of Eagle Lake, Texas; a stepson, Charles Covill of Austin; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Trant Dodson

Feb. 24, 1922 — May 20, 2001

SHREVEPORT, La. — Services for Dorothy Trant Dodson, 79, are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel in Shreveport.

The Rev. William Crosby of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield, La., will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dodson died Sunday in Shreveport.

She was born in San Angelo and worked at the Shreveport Journal and later at Facts Worth Knowing.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Dodson Ingersoll; a son and daughter-in-law, Orland O. III and Joyce Wiggins Dodson; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Emmett Trant Jr. and Richard Nall and Heidi Trant; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
