Lewis Brown

Funeral services for Lewis Brown, 93, of Boone’s Bend and Houston, are pending under the direction of Johnson & Johnson Funeral Home in Houston. Burial will be in Kendleton.
Mr. Brown died Jan. 9, 2000, at his Houston residence.

He was the oldest deacon at Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Boone’s Bend and worked in the church until he was no longer able to drive from Houston. Mr. Brown and his wife helped many families and individuals in the Boone’s Bend area.

Joseph Freymuth

Memorial services for Joseph Freymuth, 71, of El Campo and formerly of Boling, were held Friday at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo.
Mr. Freymuth died Jan. 11, 2000. He was born April 2, 1928, in Tulsa, Okla., to the late Joseph John and Gretal Beyl Freymuth.

He was a retired electronic engineer from Lorac Service Corportion.
Survivors include brothers, Bill Freymuth of Tulsa, Okla., and Ed Freymuth of Sand Springs, Okla.

George Stewart

Memorial services for George Edward Stewart of Glen Flora were held Thursday at St. Paul American Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Kersten officiating.
Mr. Stewart died Feb. 22, 2000, at Gulf Coast Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was a longtime resident of Houston before moving to Glen Flora. Mr. Stewart worked for Hairitage Salon in Houston for 14 years and formerly worked at Neiman Marcus and had his own private salon in Houston and Glen Flora. He was a member of St. Paul American Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, council member and was secretary from 1996 until this past January. Mr. Stewart was on the board of directors for the Wharton County Historical Museum and helped put together the furnishings for the Dan Rather House. He also served on the board of directors for SHARE and was a council member of the Cecil Pickett Foundation. Mr. Stewart was an organ donor and an artist and sculptor.

Survivors include parents, Milton J. and Lillian Stewart of Ocala, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Ron Hauptfleisch of Rochester, N.Y., and Judy and Steve Grantham of Vidalia, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Joanne Stewart of Columbia, S.C.; two nieces and one nephew.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to St. Paul American Lutheran Church, 325 N. East Avenue, Wharton, Texas 77488.

Charles Ewing
Following cremation, memorial services for Charles Boyd Ewing, 59, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. L.P. “Hoss” Gwin officiating.
Mr. Ewing died Aug. 19, 2002, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 23, 1942, in Houston, the son of the late Oswald Boyd Ewing and Nelda Nannie Griffith Ewing. Mr. Ewing was a former resident of Houston before moving to Wharton in 1977. He was the founder and owner of Charles Ewing Electric for the past 25 years. Mr. Ewing was a member of the Coastal Conservation Association and was very active in their Take A Child Fishing Campaign. He was also a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Deana Fortine of Houston; son, Charles Christopher Ewing of Spring; sister, Linda Ewing of Portland, Ma., and three grandchiidren.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials may be made to the Charles Ewing Grandchildren’s Education Fund, c/o Coastal Banc, 323 East Boling Road, Wharton, Texas 77488.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Jaclyn Garza
A St. Francisville, La., cowgirl with roots in Wharton died from head injuries sustained during a rodeo accident in Brookhaven, Miss., Saturday night, Aug. 17, 2002.
Jaclyn L. Garza, 20, daughter of Luciano Jack and Brenda Joy Garza, of St. Francisville, La., was finishing a perfect pole event run when the curb chain broke and the gate keeper failed to close the arena gate. The gate in the outside area was also open and the horse was heading for the highway. Unable to stop the horse, Jaclyn dove off the horse and sustained fatal head injuries. She was taken by AirMed to University Hospital Trama Unit, Jackson, Miss., where she was on life support until pronounced dead at 9 a.m. Sunday morning.
Jaclyn graduated from West Feliciana Parish High School, attended Southwest Mississippi College and was now a second year student at Baton Rouge Community College. She was studying to be a veterinarian and was a technician at Audubon Animal Hospital in St. Francisville.
Jaclyn was an experienced horse rider, having rodeoed all her life, belonging to many local clubs in Louisiana and Mississippi and competed in Louisiana High School Rodeo for three years.
Survived by parents, Luciano Jack Garza and Brenda Joy H. Garza of St. Francisville, La.; sisters, Edyce Julienne “GiGi” Garza of St. Francisville, and Kesa G. Harold of Gonzales, La.; a brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Deena P. Garza of Rosenberg; aunts and uncles in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas, including Janie G. and Daniel Gonzales, David Garza Jr., Leo Garza, Lupe Quintanilla, all of Wharton, and Eluterio “Pop” Garza of Hungerford. She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, David Sr. and Marie V. Garza, formerly of Hungerford, maternal grandparents, Thomas L. and Edyce Hutson, formerly of Mississippi; brothers, Jack David Garza and Oscar D. Garza, both formerly of Louisiana.

Arturo Rodriguez
Arturo Rodriguez II, age 20, of Boling, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2002, in an automobile accident. He was born on Sept. 12, 1981, in Wharton, the son of Arturo and Rose Mary Ramirez Rodriguez.
Mr. Rodriguez graduated from Boling High School in 2000 and was currently attending Wharton County Junior College. He worked as a mechanic for Quality Repair & Service in Wharton. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and a funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Tony Boateng-Mensah officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother; Rose Mary Rodriguez; step-father, Rey Acosta; brother, Mark Anthony Rodriguez; sisters, Veronica Marie Rodriguez and Amanda Raye Acosta; grandparents, Jesse and Senaida Ramirez; and great-grandmother, Amelia Rodriguez, all of Boling; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Pallbearers were Mark Anthony Rodriguez, Marshall Hill, Raymond Rueda, Richard Lara, Gaby Arraguz Jr., Joseph Gonzalez and James Steen.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Renee Rose
Memorial services for Ethel Renee Rose, 18, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church.

Julia Schaer
Julia Grace Schaer, age 96, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, in Wharton. She was born on Feb. 16, 1906, in East Bernard, the daughter of the late Joseph Holchak and Frances Baros Holchak.
Mrs. Schaer was a lifelong resident of Wharton County having lived in East Bernard and Hungerford. She married Louie Herman Schaer on Nov. 9, 1925, in East Bernard. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1980. Mrs. Schaer was a homemaker, a member of the KJZT and a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Funeral mass services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with co-celebrants Monsignor Robert Barzyk, Father Don Ruppert and Father Dan Warden. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Wharton Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughters, Julia Krenek of Egypt and Frances Chilek of Rosenberg; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Holchak and Theophil Holchak, and by a sister, Mollie Greenway.
Pallbearers are Michael James Krenek, Dennis Marion Krenek, Douglas George Krenek, Phillip Louis Krenek, Francis Stephen Krenek and Daniel Robert Chilek Jr.
If desiring, memorials may be made to a charity of personal choice.

Gayle Webb Altwein

Funeral services for Mrs. Gayle Henri Webb Altwein, 83, of Hungerford, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stewart Grant officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in El Campo.
Mrs. Altwein died Monday, June 12, 2000 in a Houston Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1916 in El Campo, the daughter of Henry and Edna Cleckler Seydler.
Mrs. Altwein had been a resident of Pasadena from 1939 until moving to Hungerford in 1980. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wharton.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Lee Webb in October 1985. She married Raymond Altwein on Sept. 10, 1993 in Wharton.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Altwein of Hungerford; son and daughter-in-law, David and Vivian Webb of Conroe; sisters, Lillian Williamson and Mary Ann Daniel both of Hungerford and Dorothy Viktorin of Wharton; brother, Richard Seydler of East Bernard; grandchildren, Max Webb, Mark Webb and Shannon Webb York and husband B.J. York; and step-daughter, Diane Altwein of Seattle, Wash.
Pallbearers were Max Webb, Mark Webb, B.J. York, Bobby Vicktorin, Jimmy Daniel Sr. and Jimmy Daniel, Jr.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 1717 Pioneer, Wharton, Texas 77488.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Chaney Bankston

Funeral services for Mrs. Chaney Bankston, 88, of Eagle Lake will be held today, Saturday, at 2 p.m. in Gooden-Hatton Funeral Chapel with Rev. N. Lemon officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery at Elm Grove. Visitation was held Friday evening.

Mrs. Bankston died at Rice Medical Center on June 12, 2000. She was born October 2, 1911 in Wharton to Bud and Josephine Kyles Kuykendall.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Bankston of Eagle Lake; sister, Priscilla Kuykendall of Wharton and other relatives.

Lizzie Belle Ham

Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Belle Ham, 85, of West Columbia will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Wharton City Cemetery.
She was formerly from Boling and La Grange.

Aaron Robinson Sr.

Funeral services for Aaron Robinson Sr., 78 of El Campo will be held at noon Monday, June 19 at Progressive Baptist Church in El Campo with Rev. E.L. Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Robinson died on June 14, 2000 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born in Berclair on June 13, 1922 to Sirlester and Bessie Youngblood Robinson.

Survivors include wife, Ruby Hopes Robinson of El Campo; son, Aaron Robinson Jr. of Wharton; daughters, Anna Mitchell, Jeanette Johnson and Shirley Edwards all of Houston, Ruby Williams, Nadine Steele, Gale Robinson and Terry Robinson all of El Campo; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
