Syble Hyatt
Funeral services for Syble E. Hyatt, 91, of Wharton, were held Saturday at Wharton Funeral Home. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Hyatt died Dec. 5, 2001, after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Bedias to Robert Lee and Emma L. Stephenson Sadler.
She was a 63-year resident of Wharton and member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hyatt married Richard L. “Dick” Hyatt on May 8, 1938, in Bedias and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1984. She and her husband owned Hyatt’s Food Craft until selling it in 1966 and Hyatt’s Coin Operated Laundry until her retirement in 1972.
Survivors include sisters, Mattye Carroll of Wharton and Pearl Thompson of Bedias. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Pallbearers were Don Carroll, John Miska, Larry Sitka, Franklin Sommer, Eugene Ott and Tommy Rieger.
Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Carroll, Verlie Sherrill, A.J. Stolle, Paul Hardy, Lloyd Rust, Boots Hill, Jimmy Smith, Darell Stewart, Jeffrey Blair and Gaylon Segrest.
If desiring, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 507 N. Fulton, Wharton, Texas 77488.

Eugene King
Funeral services for Eugene King, 90, of El Campo, are pending at Matthews Funeral Home.
Mr. King died Dec. 11, 2001.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home.
Albena Lesak
Funeral services for Albena Lesak, 86, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Lesak died Dec. 10, 2001, in Wharton.
Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Frank Norton
Memorial services for Frank E. Norton Jr., 88, of Houston, were held Tuesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Grant officiating.
Mr. Norton died Dec. 9, 2001, in Houston after an extended illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Goldthwaite to Frank E. and Susie Lulu Schooler Norton Sr.
He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and continued his education by receiving a bachelor of science degree from the University of Texas and master of science degree from the University of Chicago. Mr. Norton was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the 12th Air Force. He was employed as a vice-principal for Rosemont Junior High School and Diamond Senior High School, both in Fort Worth, from the early 1950s until the mid 1960s. Mr. Norton was preceded in death by his first wife, Flora Dolton Norton, on Aug. 12, 1959. He married Mary Stewart Carrell Fisher on Sept. 7, 1962, in Fort Worth and she preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 2001. Mr. Norton moved to Wharton in 1966 and worked for Wharton County Junior College as its director of financial aid until his retirement in 1976. He also worked as a self-employed counselor. Mr. Norton was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Houston and former member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He was a former member of the Fort Worth Optimist Club, Wharton Rotary Club and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Texas. Mr. Norton also served as a board member of the Texas Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Mike Johnson of Houston; step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Janice Fisher of Dallas and Richard C. and Lisa Fisher of Sante Fe, N.M.; five step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Shep Poland, Jeffery Blair, Dr. H.M. Northington, Ronnie Boedeker, Robert Sherrod, Charles Norton, Dr. C.E. Woodson and William A. Cline.
If desiring, memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219; or a charity of personal choice.

Werner Wendt
Funeral services for Werner Wendt, 80, of El Campo and formerly of Wharton, are pending at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mr. Wendt died Dec. 10, 2001, in El Campo.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Mario Moreno
Funeral services for Mario G. Moreno Jr., of Wharton, were held Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. A rosary was recited Sunday at Hernandez Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Mario was born June 16, 1982, in Temple and passed away Feb. 13, 2002, in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Thomas Leon Perez, and great-grandmother, Elvira Silas.
Survivors include: mother, Rosemary Perez of Wharton; father, Mario G. Moreno Sr. of Wharton; grandparents, Brigido Moreno Sr., Dolores Moreno and Tiadora Salinas; brothers, Rickey A. Montez, Michael Moreno, Marco Perez, Rico Valentino Perez Bernal and Mario Matthew Moreno; sisters, Lora Moreno, Kelly Nicole Moreno and Selinas Nicole Moreno; and numerous cousins.

Luisa Rios
Funeral services for Luisa Rios, 77, of Glen Flora, were held Monday at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. Burial followed in Crescent Cemetery. Rosary services were held Sunday at the funeral home.
Ms. Rios died Feb. 15, 2002, in Wharton. She was born June 21, 1924, in Gonzales to the late Salome and Alberta Morin Rios.
She is survived by her sister Epifania Flores of Glen Flora. Ms. Rios was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Trinidad Rios and Manuela Flores.

Albina Svec
Funeral services for Albina Svec, 87, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery in East Bernard.

Christopher Williams
Funeral services for Christopher Eugene “Spook” Williams, 28, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. L.C. Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Gooden-Hatton Funeral Home. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Williams died Feb. 17, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born April 5, 1973, in Wharton to Alfred Duncan and Barbara Williams.
Survivors include grandparents, L.C. Allen and Fannie Mae Williams; mother, Barbara Hearne, father, Alfred Duncan, both of Wharton; son, Ambra D. Williams, and daughter, Crishea Williams, both of Wharton; brothers, Dewayne Williams, Ronnie Hearne and Robbie Lee Duncan, all of Wharton; sisters, Adrienne Hearne of Houston and Alfreda Duncan of Wharton.

Edward Cook
Edward Glenn “E.G.” Cook, age 72, of The Woodlands and a former resident of Katy and Newgulf, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in The Woodlands following an extended illness. He was born in Lane City on Sept. 7, 1929, the son of the late Herman Edward and Katie Goss Cook.
Mr. Cook had been a resident of The Woodlands for one and one half years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Missouri as a gunner’s mate. Mr. Cook worked as a time keeper with Texasgulf Sulphur in Newgulf for 35 years until his retirement in I988. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Houston and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He married Patsy Boykin on Nov. 19, 1977, in Old Ocean. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Carole Cook and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, in the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Mrs. Patricia Pendergraft officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include wife, Patsy Cook of The Woodlands; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Dale Chumchal of Wharton, Lisa Cook of Austin and Laura and Tim Mrazek of Conroe; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne Cook of Wharton, Joe and Martha Capps of Fredericksburg, Va., and Allen Capps and fiancée Melissa Cottle of Houston; sisters, Edris Toney of Wharton and Nola Stone of Victoria; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were David Stunz, Lyle Burns, Dale Chumchal, Tim Mrazek, Steven Britton and Greg Chumchal.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Raymond Cook
Graveside services for Raymond C. Cook were conducted at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Neb., on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. with Dr. Gary Winget officiating, with military honors. Mr. Cook, 84 years of age of Holdrege, Neb., passed away on Monday, June 3, 2002 at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, Neb. He was born on Dec. 6, 1917, in Porter Springs the third of six children born to Geary and Nena Webb Cook.
He grew up in Porter Springs and attended school through the 10th grade. Following his education he worked on road construction. Mr. Cook served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On Feb. 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Alma June Lee in Rockwall and to this union one son was born, Phillip. In July of 1951, Mr. Cook started working for the Texas Gulf Sulfur Company, where he worked for about 31 years. Upon his retirement in July of 1980, he and his wife enjoyed camping. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Cook leaves to mourn his passing his wife, June Cook, of Holdrege, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Debra Cook of Holdrege, Neb.; two grandchildren, Stacie Hinz and her husband, Kent, of Kearney, Neb., and Nathan Cook of Holdrege, Neb.; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Pat Cook of Grapevine; mother-in-law, Mary Alma Lee of Henderson; two brothers-in-law Charles Lee of Bedford and Wayne Lee and his wife, Patsy, of Henderson; and one sister-in-law, Polly Gatlin of Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Inez Sledge and Beatrice Bland; and two brothers, Gary “Buster” Cook and Don Ray Cook.
The family has chosen no visitation. A memorial has been established in his memory.
The Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege, Neb., was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Ondrias
Paul E. Ondrias, of Austin, a native of Brooksville Community, passed away June 6, 2002, at the age of 90. Mr. Ondrias was horn in Wharton County on Feb. 10, 1912 to George P. and Veronica Krenek Ondrias.
He attended Brooksville Community School in Wharton and St. Mary’s University in La Porte. His career spanned more than 31 years, 27 of which were managing the Duke & Ayers Variety Store(s) in Victoria, Wharton, Brenham, Ennis and Taylor. He was a veteran of the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II, having proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. His wife of 44 years, Esther White Ondrias, his parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Paul and Jerry Ondrias of Austin; and his brother, James “Jimmie” Ondrias of Wharton.
A funeral mass will he held at 1:30 p.m. today, Saturday, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Austin. Interment will follow at 6 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria.

Thelma Reeves
Thelma Rogers Reeves, age 92, of Wharton, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Gulf Coast Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born May 16, 1910, in Wharton, the daughter of the late Everett Rogers and Cora Kriegel Rogers.
Mrs. Reeves had bean a resident of Wharton since 1964 and was a former resident of Ganado and Pasadena. She was a homemaker and an artist. Mrs. Reeves was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Wharton. She was also a member of the Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary at Gulf Coast Medical Center, and the Bridge Club. She married Howard Moon Reeves on Sept. 1, 1929, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bettye Coralyn Wallace and two brothers, Bob Rogers and Leland Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Billye and William Barker of Wharton; grandchildren, Timmy Lee Barker, Teena Sue Caldwell, Kelly Rene Eddy and Russ Scott Wallace; seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers are Russ Scott Wallace, Harold Eddy, Jason Barker, Dr. Larry Caldwell, Dr. Dwight King and Mike Morgan.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorials to the Dobson Youth Endowment Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1717 Pioneer, Wharton, Texas 77488.
Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Roscoe Bratcher
Funeral services for Roscoe Bratcher of East Bernard will be held at noon Friday at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton with Rev. Richard Booker officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Point Cemetery. Memorial services will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Little Zion Baptist Church.
Mr. Bratcher died May 31, 2002, in Wharton.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include wife, Lillie Bratcher; daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn Joyce and Conrith Davis and Royce Marie and Duwaine Robinson; and five grandchildren.

Natalie Cox
Natalie Nichole Cox, age 16, of Boling died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. She was born on July 5, 1985, in Victoria, the daughter of David Furman Cox II and Alicia Gayle Roden Cox.
Natalie was a former resident of Victoria and Bay City before moving to Boling in 1988. She attended Newgulf Elementary and Iago Junior High and was a current honor student at Boling High School, having just completed her sophomore year. Natalie was recognized for perfect attendance for the school year 2001-2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Boling. Natalie was twice a heart transplant recipient. She was a junior counselor at Camp Pump It Up and she attended Camp YOLO, camps for children with cardiac problems. She lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the opening of the Gulf Coast Medical Center Heart Clinic.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. today, Saturday, June 1, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Wharton with Rev. Skip Holman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her parents, David and Alicia Cox of Boling; sister, Madeline Cox of Boling; maternal grandparents, W.R. and Dorothy Roden of Victoria; paternal grandparents, David and Ann Cox of Bay City; aunts and uncles, Cheryl Roden, Alan Roden, Lisa and Bobby Garrett and great-aunt and great-uncle, Margie and Welter Krieg; cousins, Jennifer and Leslie Sparkman.
Pallbearers are Rick Nance, Mike Bernhardt, Bobby Garrett, Alan Roden, Jim Mullino and Charles Atwell.
Honorary pallbearers are The Cardiac Team Doctors, Nurses, and Volunteers of Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, Loma Linda University Medical Center and the Driscoll Children’s Hospital of Corpus Christi; members of First Baptist Church of Boling and the Community of Boling.
