Theresa Foyt
Theresa Marie Brosman Foyt, age 88, of Wharton passed away May 27, 2002 in Wharton. She was born Oct. 16, 1913, in Nada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie Kubecka Brosman.
She married William Arnold Foyt Sr. in Rosenberg in 1942. She was a lifelong resident of Wharton, member of Holy Family Catholic Church and lifetime member of KJZT since 1942. Mrs. Foyt was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
A rosary was recited Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m. at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Joe Vrana officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, William Arnold Foyt, Sr. of Wharton; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jane and Herschel Ustynik of Rosenberg and Shirley Ann and Joe Kopecky of Buchanan Dam; son and daughter-in-law, William Arnold and Debra Foyt Jr. of Cedar Lane; and six grandchildren, Dwain Ustynik, Shalyn Ustynik, Cayse Shirley and husband Robert, Travis Foyt, Warren Kopecky and Bryan Kopecky. She was preceded in death by sisters, Millie Fiala, Sister Frances Brosman, Julie Labay and Agnes Marek and by brothers, Frankie, Joseph, Adolph, Johnny and Richard Brosman.
Pallbearers were Dwain Ustynik, Robert Shirley, Travis Foyt, Warren Kopecky, Bryan Kopecky and Ross Rosenbaum.
Honorary pallbearers were all her many friends and neighbors.
If desiring, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Theresa Foyt
Funeral services for Theresa Marie Brosman Foyt, 88, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Foyt died May 27, 2002, in Wharton.

Janie Horelica
Janie Fojtik Horelica, age 88, of Lane City, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in a Wharton nursing home. She was born Oct. 23, 1913, the daughter of the late John and Julie Fojtik.
Mrs. Horelica married Joseph Horelica on Nov. 11, 1935, in Wharton. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1949. She worked as a nurses aide at Caney Valley Memorial Hospital prior to retiring in 1978. Mrs. Horelica was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters and KJZT. She was a longtime resident of Wharton County and loved to sew and crochet.
A funeral mass was held Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Joe Vrana officiating. A Catholic Daughters rosary was recited prior to the funeral mass. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Frank Koenig of El Campo, Angie and Frank Jalufka of El Campo, Janice Burditt of Wharton and Josephine Horelica of Warren; sister, Eleanora Hill of Prairie Hill; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.

Irene Heintschel
Funeral services for Irene Laverne Heintschel were held May 11, at Knesek Chapel in Fayetteville.
Ms. Heintschel was born Jan. 29, 1945, in Edna, Jackson County, to Clarence Heintschel and Earline Dippel Heintschel.
At age three, her family moved to Wharton, where she lived until the age of 23. She graduated from Wharton High School in 1963 and attended Wharton County Junior College and also community colleges in the Dallas area. In 1968, Ms. Heintschel moved to Dallas and she has lived in the Dallas and Irving area since then. She enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, maintaining her home and she dearly loved all her pets. Throughout the years she had worked in accounting and her last and best employment was with Chaucer Management Services.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law; Clarice and Dr. Charles of Argyle; brothers and sister-in-law, Gordon and Clara Legler Heintschel of Wharton, Wayne Heintschel of Huntsville, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arlen.

William Johnson
Funeral services for Rev. William Johnson, 97, of Texas City, will be held at noon, today, Saturday, at Camp Zion-Rising Star United Baptist Church in Spanish Camp. Rev. Obie Rhodes and Rev. Ruiel Taylor III, will officiate. Burial will follow at New Prosperity Cemtery.
Rev. Johnson died July 27, 2002. He was born April 13, 1905, in Wharton County to Elijah and Eliza Johnson.
He was one of 12 children born to this union. Rev. Johnson was educated in Wharton County, where he completed his formal academic pursuit at grade five. He pastored St. Luke Baptist Church of Bonus, where he holds the title of “Pastor with the Longest Tenure,” 54 years. He also served as pastor of New Prosperity Baptist Church. During his pastoral career, Rev. Johnson pastored seven churches. While serving as pastor of two churches, Pastor Johnson served simultaneously as moderator of the 20th Century District Association for 26 years. He was also affiliated with the Wharton County Ministerial Alliance. He was the longest serving moderator of the 20th Century District Association.
He was preceded in death by relatives Elijah, Eliza, Thelma, Velma, Deborah, his 10 siblings and a host of other love ones.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dolores King and Robert Penrice of Dickinson; son and daughter-in-law, William D. and Erma Johnson of Texas City; sister, Lee Ester Johnson Burton of Texas City; two grand-daughters, three grandsons, 12 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, two godchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lee Langston
Funeral services for Lee Langston, 91, of Glen Flora, will be held at 11 p.m. today, Saturday, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. C.E. McWashington officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Langston died July 30, 2002, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born Jan. 11, 1911, in Ocilla, Ga., to Johnnie and Georgia Coleman Langston.
Survivors include wife, Cora Lee Bradshaw Langston of Glen Flora; daughters, Delores Aubrey of Houston, Velma Burrell of El Campo, Dorothy Brightman, Lee Ann Gullory and Veda Chambers all of Glen Flora; 2l grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren.

Manuel Martinez
Funeral services for Manuel Martinez Jr., 54, of Wharton, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Burial will follow in San Francisco Cemetery. A rosary was recited Tuesday at Hernandez Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
Mr. Martinez died May 24, 2002, in Wharton. He was born May 25, 1947, in Hallsville to the late Manuel and Anastasia Hernandez Martinez Sr.
Survivors include sons, Manuel George Martinez and Roger Martinez; daughters, Sandra Martinez and Michelle Martinez; brothers, Alejandro Martinez, Timoteo Martinez and Roberto Martinez; sisters, Sulema Carmona, Aurrora Garza, Felipa Vasquez, Agustina Garza, Dolores Martinez, Juanita Martinez, Gloria Martinez and Yolanda Robles; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie Martinez; and brothers, Johnny Martinez and Adolfo Martinez.

Mary Petitt
Funeral services for Mary Alice Petitt, 93, of Wharton, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Wright officiating. Burial will follow in New Mount Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-9 p.m. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Petitt died at her residence May 23, 2002. She was born March 7, 1909, in Wharton to Will and Elizabeth Pink Johnson.
Survivors are sons, Ellis Petitt of Dallas, Adolph Petitt of Philadelphia, Pa., Eddie Petitt of Connecticut and Elijah Petitt of Houston; daughter, Verma Rainer of Wharton; brothers, Johnny Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Jewel Johnson and Thomas Johnson, all of Houston; sisters, Ruth Johnson, Mary Harris and Patricia Green, all of Houston, Mildred Harrod of Philadelphia, Pa., and Etta Clay of Wharton; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

Gloria Smith
Funeral services for Gloria Jean Smith, 61, of Wharton, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, at New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Mackay with Rev. Eric Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in New Mount Olive Cemetery in Mackay.
Mrs. Smith died May 23, 2002, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Wharton to Harris and Ceola Cray Williams Jr.
She was a cook by profession and a member of the Church of God In Christ.
Survivors include father, Harris Williams of Houston; mother, Ceola Williams of Wharton; brothers, Eldean Williams and Edward Williams, both of Houston, and Charles Williams of Wharton; sister, Dorothy Lamkin of Kingsville.

Thomas White
Funeral services for Thomas William “Bill” White, of Lafayette, La., were held Monday in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, La. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery. A Wake service was held Sunday night.
Mr. White died May 24, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Bay City to the late Clinton P. White and the former Vivian McClaugherty.
He was reared and attended school in Newgulf. Mr. White was an athlete at Boling High School. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. White retired in 2001 as a drilling superintendent for Philliber Directional Drilling Company.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Gail White of Drexel, N.C., and Susan and Jonny Davis of Carencro, La.; son, Thomas M. White of Spring; brother, Clinton White of Wharton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Provost White.

Judge Jackson
Judge C. Jackson Sr., 82, of Kendleton, died April 2, 2002, at his home in Kendleton following a long illness. He was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Kendleton the son of Eugene and Laura Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Powell Point High School. He was a member of a pioneer family of the Kendleton area. His grandfather taught him the value of raising cattle. For 73 years he was a cattleman. On July 2, 1939, Mr. Jackson married Algeretta Doreswell in Wharton. From December 1939 he devoted himself to being a father. He began a second career as a cotton farmer in 1940 and continued until 1964. He worked for Tobin and Rooner plastering contractors in Houston for 22 years, until his retirement. He was a contract mail hauler for the U.S. Postal Service for many years.
Mr. Jackson was a deacon and church treasurer of the Little Zion Missionary Baptist for many years in the Powell Point community of Kendleton. He was a Master Mason in Roosevelt Lodge No. 8 in Kendleton. He worked for numerous charities in his community. Mr. Jackson was a former school trustee for Kendleton Independent School District.
Funeral services were held April 6 at the Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton. Burial was held at Powell Point cemetery in Kendleton.
Survivors include wife, Algeretta Jackson; children Alice Mae Jackson, Juarene Callihan, Judge C. Jackson Jr. and wife Arlene, Al Freda Johnson and husband Roy; daughter-in-law Madlyn Jackson; 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Sadd Pieace Jackson and wife Dorothy; and sister-in-law, Jackie Jackson. He was preceded in death by a son, Milton E. Jackson; father and mother, Eugene and Laura Jackson; sister, Hornorene Harris; and two brothers, Eugene Jackson Jr. and Edward Kysek Jackson.
In lieu of usual remembrances the family request memorials to Little Zion Baptist Church in Kendleton.

Viola Gallagher
Viola Ann Sikora Gallagher, 92, of Wharton and formerly of Galveston and San Marcos, died April 22, 2002, in Texas City. She was born Feb. 27, 1910, in East Bernard to the late Adolph Sikora and Mary Brandl Sikora.

She married Edward J. Gallagher an Oct. 22, 1941, in Galveston and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1959. She and her husband were former owners of Gallaghers Restaurant in Galveston. Mrs. Gallagher was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Rosary services were held Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church and the funeral mass followed with Father Don Ruppert officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include sister, Louise Anderson of Pasadena; three grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Elenora Rice, Mary Wasek, Lydia Polak and Edna Urbanic; and brothers, Edmund Sikora, Adolph Sikora, Frank Sikora, Simon Sikora and Jacob Sikora.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 11251 Northwest Freeway, Suite 300, Houston, Texas 77092; Holy Family Fellowship Committee, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488; or a charity of personal choice.

Annie Slovak

Annie M. Slovak, 88, of Wharton, died April 14, 2002, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born Oct.12, 1913, in Texarkana to the late Joe Adamik and Philomena Kubtza Adamik.
Mrs. Slovak was reared in Hungerford and moved to Wharton in 1946. She married John C. Slovak on June 26, 1934, in Wharton and was preceded in death by him on Jan. 24, 1991. Mrs. Slovak was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a former employee of East Bernard Furniture Company, Texas Instruments, Guffey’s Packing Company, Gene’s Donut Shop and Wharton County Junior College Cafeteria.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Don Ruppert officiating and a Catholic Daughter rosary will precede the mass at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Friends may call at Wharton Funeral Home after noon today.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Gloria Slovak of El Campo, Daniel Lee Slovak of Wharton, Johnny and Anita Slovak of Houston and Bobby Joe and Marcel Slovak of Richmond; sisters, Frances Freed, Bessie Fagan, Cecilia Borowiak, all of Rosenberg, Martha Patak of Waxahachie, Vlasta Raska of Spring; brother, Joe Adamik of El Campo, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Slovak; grandson, Michael D. Slovak; sisters, Agnes Adamik, Mary Kainer, Christine Machacek; brother, Louis Adamik.

Viney Smiley

Funeral services for Viney Smiley, 92, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Pierce Boone Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Smiley died April 14, 2002, at Gulf Coast Medical Center.

Annie Orsak
Annie Cecilia Orsak, age 87, of Wharton died Monday, April 22, 2002, in a Wharton nursing home following an extended illness. She was born on Sept. 2, 1914, in East Bernard the daughter of Martin John and Anna Vasek Orsak.
Miss Orsak had been a lifelong resident of Wharton and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She was a member of the Altar Society and the K.J.Z.T. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Orsak, Elizabeth Wishert and Bessie Pyka and also by four brothers, Jerry Orsak, August Orsak, John Orsak and Martin Orsak.
A rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Holy Family Catholic Church and a funeral mass followed at 10 a.m. with Father Joe Vrana officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include: Lydia Stelzel, Martha Hardy and Helen Roeder, all of Wharton; brother, George Orsak of Wharton; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were Jerry Svetlik, Rick Brown, Dan Tesar, Bobby Wishert, Fred Pyka, and Bill Sulak Jr.
If desiring memorials may be sent to a church or charity of personal choice.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
